I am completely obsessed with bakelite and lucite bangles. I buy all I can afford and sell a lot of them. I don't have any in my personal collection, but I do wear the ones I have until they sell. I got my first piece of cellulose recently, a scotty dog brooch. I love Moon Glow. I have some and have sold some. Your necklaces are gorgeous! I could stare at them all day and never get any work done. if I had them. Finding a lucite bracelet with bugs is on my bucket list, as is an Alexis Bittar bangle, a laminated bangle, a Sobral bangle, and a reverse-carved bangle. I know i can buy all of these on eBay, but I love hunting for them. I can't wait for part 2!
Thanks for the nice note Morpha! I too like to find things in the wild as opposed to buying on eBay. That's the fun of it!!!!! Good luck and happy hunting to you!! xo
I learn so much from you. You are a force to be reckoned with. Your videos are organized and professional. And your personality comes through. Thank you for being you. Look forward to many more of your videos.
I love moonglow lucite, like that lemon yellow brooch and earrings set, and I love cherry red and grass green. Carved cherry red bakelite (catalin?) Is alsoy favorite.
Loved the pink ,white and green necklace, and the blue one with the dainty little white flowers. Thanks so much for sharing. Oh and the Bakelite cherries.
Sandra please tell Mom she’s the rarest diamond who did a great job raising one of the most precious gems on utube thank her for me l learn so much from you hugs and prayers xox
“I want to marry it!” Hahah! And the bracelet too? Woot woot! I just bought a jewelry lot online and some of the bracelets are vintage Napier Fruit lucite moonglow! I’m so excited! I’d love to find Bakelite but I always forget to look for it. Thanks for showing some.
Thank you for sharing your collection and all of your knowledge! ❤ I recently purchased a mystery jewelry lot, initially wanting to source items I could get listed quickly at a low COG but I ended up falling in love with it!! I've always wanted to find bakelite, I didn't realize it came in so many forms! Will certainly be looking closer at things from now on!! Ok ... heading off to watch part two ... after I subscribe of course!! 😊
Oh! What is your feeling about epoxy resin in comparison? The first time I used it (about 20 yrs ago I worked in the film biz) I had to buy it at a special affects warehouse. “Polyester Resin”. It was the most toxic stuff!! Gas mask was mandatory!! Many years later, there is barely a smell at all! Not the 2part or the ultraviolet cured. Yeah, I’m pretty obsessed… making silicon molds n all that! Keep bringing the vids!!
Omg Sandra such a great video I learned so much I have about 500 lbs of custom jewellery all tangled up I went through it really quick a few times found about about 50 grams of gold I have been collecting it for a while but my flea market is opening soon so I’m just gonna sell it in 10lbs bags wish I knew a little bit How to sort it but to me mostly looks like junk I tried to find Bakelite and glass Not much in there hopefully somebody will find a treasure
Hi! I am new to reselling jewelry and have become obsessed! At 23:40 in the video, I noticed a necklace and I have one just like it except colors are yellow, orange and green. Can you suggest a title for me to use and the price to list at? This video is soooo helpful. I learned alot and have subscribed ❤
Thanks for subbing!!! I would suggest $39.99 and make sure you use the word “flowers” in your title. Also “plastic” and put the colors in the title. “Vintage” and “1960s 1970s” too. Just a few suggestions. Good luck and thanks for watching!!!
Beautiful pieces! At 24.39 your plastic flower brooch that says Ges Gesch, I believe it to be made in Germany, Erlo Plastics. I have a plastic picture frame that has the same wording Sandra.
Hi, great video! The big bold brown and cream bangle at 18.15, I have a few of these and I love them too! Do you know what they are made from? I would love to know ☺️
Really enjoyed this video. What a great idea to purchase a small inexpensive piece of Bakelite from ebay to know what it smells like. I've got the Simichrome - just haven't turned up any real Bakelite yet!
You have some really interesting pieces. I am thinking that bakelite only comes in like the 1970s colors, like green, gold, orange, yellow... but I saw your black bingo cards. Do you think it comes in other colors? Live the multi tiered blue beaded necklace and the cherry ones the best! 😁
Hi, thanks for watching. The "70s" colors is a really cool way to think about it... But bakelite most certainly comes in black and other colors too -- like my purple gumdrop bangle I showed for example. Thanks again!!!!
Hi... new subscriber here, I noticed in the beginning of this video when you showed a screenshot of Leo Baekeland and Bakelite, you wrote 1990's. Did you mean 1890's? That would make much more sense as to when Bakelite started to be produced.
So many beautiful pieces. I like the marbled beads a lot and the brooch with celluloid. Wow!! Also the large green diamond design bangle great! Your videos are so welcome very cheery. Btw. Accidentally got the dislike button watching the first time. Nooo waayyy!!
I didnt know bakelite comes in white ?!? someone was selling a bakelite bangle with white in it for cheap and i passed it up thinking it not to be bakelite!
It is almost impossible to find as Bakelite yellows with age…. So it is likely that the white bangle you saw was not Bakelite. But it’s possible if it was stored in the correct way like mine was. Thanks for watching!
Speaking of amber, I'm wondering if I'm looking at the right "fluoresce" effect when using the UV light. Is it supposed to look kind of opaque? Thanks for any help with this. I've seen where some people say you are supposed to see blue or green hues? I'm not sure?
It does actually look sort of opaque! I've done it in some of my videos, but I don't know which ones. The best way to know is to have a piece you know isn't amber, and then put the UV light on each and see if there's a difference. Thanks for watching as always.
@@debrarobertson6900 I have some and thought it looked very similar. Of course holding and inspecting it is a whole other ballgame. You are the Debra Robertson that I know in the Portland, OR area are you?
I used hot tap water and soaked the bakalite bracelet, and it discolored the avocado green to an ugly cream color! Stunk as well. Oops! Won't do that again.

There are PLENTY of REAL gemstones that even a homeless person can afford, depending on the quality of course. There is some Tiger Eye out there that gets very expensive due to it being of very high quality material
your $2600 bracelet is made of Catalin plastic resin - NOT Bakelite - Leo Baekeland had nothing to do with Catalin - Dr Fritz Pollak invented Catalin in 1926 - no such nonsense as expired patents. Catalin had its own patents. if you are an expert - call it by its correct name - Catalin - everything you show [except the lucite/celluloid] are cast resins and are either Catalin or Marblettte or Fiberlon - all originating from Fritz Pollak formulas - NOT Leo.
Yes, all true. Catalin is often referred to as Bakelite in this business and has been for many years. Misnomers run rampant in jewelry and terms are often (for lack of a better term) dumbed down. I see clear plastic being called Lucite when it may or may not be, brooches being called Jelly Bellies, which in fact they are not since they are not made by Trifari, etc. etc. etc. Thank you for watching.

Yes likely many of the Bakelite pieces are technically catalin. Thanks for watching !!!
Those bugs freaked me out! 😆 Thanks for the tutorial.
The Red Cherry necklace and Red cherry brooch is just gorgeous. The yellow buckle is pretty funky too.

Thanks so much for making this! Can I ask where your light box is from? Hard to find good sturdy ones!!
It's a "Travor" that I found on Amazon. Thanks!
I like plastic too❤️
Thanks for watching Molly!
Such beautiful things. You shod take pictures of you wearing them.

I heard you can sell ivory over a certain year. I'll look it up. Great show BTW.

I love love all this. Keep them coming. Can you tell me where to get the cream and the name of it
I get mine on Amazon. It is called Simichrome. Good luck! Thanks for watching !
Sandra every time you show the cherries a little piece of my heart breaks, cause I know you'll never part with it! lol :)
Haha! Thanks for watching Jenn -- I would sell it -- but I'm in LOVE!!!!! xo

That snake head bangle looks like black coral bangle.
I think you’re right about that! Thanks for your input.
I have a bone colored carved rose pin with a c clasp. Definitely vintage. Can’t determine if it is plastic or bone. Any tips?
Hi Jenni, thanks for watching. Bone is cold to the touch and plastic should be room temp. Hope that helps!!!
I had Two Tall Jewelry Boxes Full, when I was in process of moving Helpers stole all, Haven't seen them in years
Oh no. How 😞 terrible!
Entertaining and informative = that voodoo that you do so well❣️ Loved all the moonglow 😍

Hmmmmm I don't think so. I'll double check. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. xo
the HOT WATER SOAK ON BAKELITE TEST IS MUCH EASIER THAN SCRUBBING IT WITH METAL POLISH!
Everyone has their preferred way to do things. Water is not my preferred. You do you!

Maybe -- I'll double check that one!! It's cool, right? Thanks for watching!
