    Thank you so much for taking the time to explain things, I love your videos. I have collected buttons for 5+ years but still don’t understand how to tell one from another. I so appreciate you taking the time to explain so I can understand.

To me your a gift, so many questions that I have and as I watch each video I am finally learning what I’ve waited to learn for 5 years. Thank you for giving your time to help those of us who need education on beautiful buttons.

    I am currently browsing my collection for celluloid buttons so that I can store them separately. This video was a great help, although I have fewer problems with the tight top celluloid buttons than with the flat/carved ones, some of which have a pearly shimmer (I can't tell them apart from casein buttons). Also watched your other video about celluloid buttons. Both are just great! 😊

    A bit confused in identifying celluloid buttons☹️. The ones that wrap over metal bases yes easier , the others not sure when sorting my collection.

    • @TheVelvetLoungeLife
      @TheVelvetLoungeLife  14 дней назад +1

      You can test them as noted in the video to be sure. Just looking at them is not a true test unless you see and handle lots of them. Also, not all wrap around buttons are Bakelite some of those can be leather or other plastics.

    Thank you for this informative video about buttons, and then at the last you mentioned guitar picks, knife handles, and cutlery handels they could be Celluloid also. I never thought about buttons being dangerous. I thought they were all made the same way. Thank you again for all your info on these buttons, I have seen a lot of them before, oh and also , I love that you are using a candy tray to put your buttons in.

    I have one button that looks like the thin brown button in the front row second from left and it was sold in a Bakelite lot. How can I differentiate between Celluloid and Bakelite? It tested positive with 409.

    • @TheVelvetLoungeLife
      @TheVelvetLoungeLife  11 месяцев назад +2

      Celluloid is a very specific material and it is thin in comparison to Bakelite which is thick and chunkier. The 409 test is not the tell-all and be all of Bakelite. It's just one of many ways that people try to deduce whether or not they think an item is made of bakelite. All of the buttons in this video are made of celluloid. Due to celluloid and Bakelite being man-made chemical based materials they will test similarly. However, the very best test for Bakelite is to use: www.amazon.com/Simichrome-Polish-390050-Bakelite-Buffer/dp/B07WCCYRMH

    PLEASE TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BAKELITE AND CATLIN -IF YOU KNOW, THANK YOU-I UNDERSTAND BAKELITE IS NOT TRANSLUCENT WHILE CATLIN IS ,MORE INFO IS APRECITED.

    • @TheVelvetLoungeLife
      @TheVelvetLoungeLife  5 месяцев назад +1

      Bakelite is a softer material and accepts color easier. Catalin is harder, accepts color easily too and tends to be translucent. Bakelite is always opaque. You can hear the difference if you tap a bakelite button on a glass, granite, marble table versus a catalin button.
