Eric, I watched so many wood sign videos on RUclips, but don't know why just got to yours. Subscribed! It is amazing to carve the eagle freehand like what you have done.
Thank you Scott, I really appreciate the sub and the nice compliments. If I can answer any specific questions for you please email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com
I will never view handmade signs the same way again - I’ll be seeing the detail and time it takes to achieve the look. This was amazing - I’m about to purchase my first router, so I’ve been watching your tutorials to prepare myself for the ins and outs of it all. I’m so excited to start practising - perhaps in 10yrs time I’ll be half way to your level !!! Thankyou !!
Wow, Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments. I very much appreciate you watching and the kind words. Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you, I'm happy to help however I can, eric@akeawoodsign.com. Thanks again and have a great weekend.
Great looking sign so far Eric, really like that eagle template, kind of nerve racking watching you on the circle but as usual you carved it like the true professional you are.
Great work, as always, Eric. I'm working on a round wedding plaque, which is pretty similar to your address sign, and needed to see the 90 degree background as a refresher. I've been working other projects for a while and haven't done backgrounds recently. The background of the test piece I did yesterday came out a little sloppy. Great timing to see your background work today. Thanks again.
I Really Enjoy Watching Your Video, And I Thank You For Sharing Your Expertise. Also I'am Very New, To Learning How To Do Wood Carving. Excellent Work And Fine Detail, Thank's Again.
I Forgot To Mention That, I Remember You Said That When You Router Around The Design. Always Start From Counter Clock Wise. Thank You, Just Trying To Learn.
So sorry to hear about your Dad. Prayers to you and your family. Love the videos on this sign. Question, what were the main routers you used on this project. I did see a DW618, but not of the other one. Thanks.
The sign is looking great, I have a question about carving 1/16 deep on the Eagle. I have carved similar Eagle patterns and found out I carved them to shallow, as I sanded the black off I also sanded the detail away. As you have mentioned to us many times, a beginner usually carves to shallow, so I have been trying to avoid doing that.. Maybe share some light on this for me and the rest of the group on your next video, Thanks guys, have a great weekend.....Pete
Either you are carving too shallow, or too heavy handed with the sander. I'll make a video on this soon. Thank you Pete, have a great weekend yourself...
Very nice work. Just a question, could you have used a template bushing and a spiral bit to go around the base you used to draw the circle and get a clean circle in one pass?
Hey Eric, great work as always. I was wondering if you were going clockwise on the circle (that's the way it looked to me). Isn't counterclockwise what everyone says to do?
I just watched the complete two part video for the second time, and I noticed you carved the chamfer clockwise rather than counter clockwise. Any reason?
For this sign, i believe we're using the profile bit, and carving liner. You can find them all on our website. Here's the link www.makeawoodsign.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=4
Yes it is possible. In my opinion you will need a base plate for good control. I use my carving liner for this detail work. Here's a video where I demo it, along with my other bits. ruclips.net/video/pFqeuYfUC1g/видео.html Here's my website where I have all my bits listed www.makeawoodsign.com/shop/ If you have more questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com
This a great learning video for the beginner. Nice carving Eric.
Glad it was helpful David...
You have unbelievable control over that router! When you went over that circle for the third time and kept the line I was amazed! Wow nice job.
Thank you Bob, glad you enjoyed it. I really appreciate the compliments and all the support, Eric
Waw, the detailing of the carving on the eagle is astounding. Looking forward to seeing it painted. Thank you for being an inspiration to us all.
I'll be finishing it up on Monday. Thanks so much for watching and the wonderful comments, I truly do appreciate it, Eric

So sorry to hear about your Dad. Prayers to you and your family. Love the videos on this sign. Question, what were the main routers you used on this project. I did see a DW618, but not of the other one. Thanks.
Thank You Kevin!!! I used a combo of the Dewalt DWP611, the Dewalt DW618 and the Ridgid cordless R86044SB. Hope this helps
Hi Dave, thanks for the tuition I have started making my own signs after tutorial, but not too sure what to charge, mark from uk
Thank you Mark.... If you would like my opinion you can email some pix & I'll give you my thoughts.... eric@makeawoodsign.com

Excellent work 👍
Thank you!!!
Where do you get that clear plastic base with the holders? Or did you make it?
We have them on our website, www.makeawoodsign.com/shop/ If you have any other questions you can email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com
Para que no sangre la madera de pino ,que dar primero barniz o primero pintura mate en expray, gracias
That works really well!👍👍
Do you ever use the Bosch 1617 ? How does/ has the dw1618 held up heard the had variable speed issues .
I've never used the Bosch 1617 but I've heard good things. I love my DW618, never had any issues.
Probably need the largest battery to extend the carving time.
Yes, at least the 4 amp hour battery.
How do you keep the dust away while you use the router to see the lines ???
Most of the time the router itself blows away the sawdust by the router bit.
I just watched the complete two part video for the second time, and I noticed you carved the chamfer clockwise rather than counter clockwise. Any reason?
I usually prefer to climb cut when doing the chamfer, less chance of tear out. I just did a video on that subject that will post here on Friday 6/26.
I had an anxiety attack while you were carving the circle. I find that so hard to do.
LOL, I used to.... Just relax and take your time. Thank You Darrin!!!
Where can we get the template of the main sign?
They should be available on the our website soon, makeawoodsign.com. Thank you, Eric
Hi, so how much did the customer pay for this sign and how many total hours were used making it, from design to finish?
This was $150 and took me approx 2 hours.
What kind of wood are you cutting?
Thank is select pine
@@oldave100 thank you From Jack Smith
beautiful eagle, but it will take me years of experience to cut a nice circle like that free hand.
Thank you, but it's not that hard. Just take your time and cut at a shallow depth to start with, then you can go deeper with subsequent cuts.
where can I find this template?
This is not one of our templates available. It's so fragile that it falls apart. Your best bet it t find it online and use a transfer method.
Do you have a pattern for the Eagle
No not that one.
I got wood chips in my eye watching your video.
Safety first!!! You need a screen protector.
gracias amigo desde le argentina le agradezco sus conocimientos,un abrazo!!
Thank you so much Nestor for watching and the wonderful comments. A big American virtual hug to you.
Doss anyone know what kind of bit he is using?
For this sign, i believe we're using the profile bit, and carving liner. You can find them all on our website. Here's the link www.makeawoodsign.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=4

Tell happy mother day to your wife
I will, Thank you!!!
I'm tossing depth out the window
Good idea...
With the Makita 3709? Is it possible to achieve that kind work? What kind of bit should I use?
Yes it is possible. In my opinion you will need a base plate for good control. I use my carving liner for this detail work.
