First saw you with Matt at 731 Woodworks. It caused me to order your base and a couple of bits. Now after seeing your #406 & 552 post I’m inspired to get started and seeing about ordering your other bits. One problem: I have to wait until after Christmas because I gave my wife the box with the base and bits when it arrived and told her this was going to be one of my Christmas gifts. She is so mean, now she won’t let me start playing with my new toy until Dec. 25th.
It's funny you have this video today because this afternoon I just got a set of 10 -1/8" spiral upcut bits for my dremel 4000 I am planning on making a 8x11 sign never used this bit but want to try. Thanks for the advise and pros & cons will send you a picture when I am done.
great video Eric! i quite like the smaller spiral bits, I even use the smaller ones down to a 1/16th but with a 1/8th shank. they work great in either a 1/4" or even 1/2" inch router. just need a collet reducer
Got mine Monday. Can’t wait to try it out. Got a special sign coming up that it be perfect for. Thanks Eric for letting us know what to expect with bit. Great video.
Great bit review Eric. I like the ability to offer flat backgrounds as well as textured for my customers. Not sure if you remember the ones I had you get for me from Amana......but they were even smaller cutting diameters thank the 1/8"......and they are AWESOME!!! Amana bits are the best!!
Makes me nervous about the inner parts of the letters carving but just encourages to do more outset rather in inset when using this bit. I ordered two and am looking forward to playing a little with them to get a feel for them. Thank you for all you do.
Great video demo. And good feedback and thoughts on the bit. I didn’t think about the painting and addtional paint needed due tot he sharp angles. My thought, where a spiral bit is not affected would be on a bigger carving.
thank you good video.I find that if you first do an outline abound letters with a carving liner bit it helps with tear out with the spiral bit ,but it is another step, I know you have forgotten more about this craft thaN i know sir
Thanks Eric I love the flat background! I also like the v-groove look on the inset letters and the slight angle the profile bit gives the outset letters. Wondering if you have tried using the spiral up cut bit after making a pass with the profile bit for outset, and then again after one pass with the v-bit on inset letters? (Assuming you have letters big enough to do that for the inset letters) thanks for the videos!
Love your channel thanks for all the help wondering if you have any tips with dust and wood chips having lots of problems with my eyes ! My wrap around safety glasses fog up when wearing a mask. Thanks Eric
The router has a lot more power than the Dremel, so you will be able to carve harder wood deeper and faster using the router and the 1/8” spiral upcut bit.
Could you have gone all the way through with the spiral bit to make the insets and outset letters? For isn't the outset s&p would be separate from each other and you can put them on a whole different platform. As far as the inside you will have a hole showing the s&p
how do you know when your bit needs to be sharpened? i'm just starting out can you tell me the best bits to start with? saw you on 731 woodworks and was interested in sign carving.
Hey James, it takes a little bit to really get the feel for when your bits are dull but the general rule I use is if it feel like you're having to drag your bit through the wood, they're probably dull or they need to be cleaned. Here's the link for all the bits that we use makeawoodsign.com/collections/router-bits If you have any other questions, feel free to hit me up ryan@makeawoodsign.com
I don't know of one that has internal lights but here's a video of what I did ruclips.net/video/w_4jQ5ZUdzg/видео.html Let me know if I can answer any other questions, eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you
Or you can have a machine shop sharpen it, but it's probably cheaper to just buy another one. But, the spiral bits last for a LONG time. We've been using the same one for about 3 years. We don't use it all the time but it cuts just as good today as it did brand new
Eric, to prevent splitting using the spiral upcut, would you recommend the use of packing tape on top of the letters? Thank you! PS - Where can one purchase a "Blue Lives Matter"/ "Thin Blue Line" ring, such as yours? Thank you.
You can definitely use the packing tape, But it will bur up a little bit. I don’t really like carving through tape because it distorts the lines as you’re carving, but a lot of people do. And I think you can get the blue lives matter bracelet on Amazon

Happy to help Gary. Thank you for the business...
I always set the depth of both bits on a scrape piece of wood to the same depth before I carve the piece I’m working on...matches up great
Great idea... Thank you

It does cut VERY good... I think you'll like it...
I like both flat background and your textured background.... just depends on the look desired.
Agreed...

@@oldave100 that would be great!
Do you have a video on how to cut circles with or without a Jig.
Here's a video I did a couple years ago cutting a circle ruclips.net/video/B5wiir83vqM/видео.html
Nice demo EZ E...🤘🤘🤘
Thank you Dano...
I’m not a flat background guy, but that is good to know. Good demo, thanks.
You're welcome Bob...

Greg here's a video I did on a portable dust collection device ruclips.net/video/BXoD7JFtyMw/видео.html hope this helps.
Great info: thank you and God Bless Always,
Thank you Danny...
Great information to know.......thanks!
Happy to help, Thank you Lori...
So, would this be equivalent to a Dremel 561 "multipurpose" bit, only the shank is 1/4" instead of 1/8"? They look the same...
The router has a lot more power than the Dremel, so you will be able to carve harder wood deeper and faster using the router and the 1/8” spiral upcut bit.

Yes but you would need to make it in several passes, at least 3.

Morning Eric great video great info. How are you liking the cordless router?
I love it more and more...

Thank you👍👍
This bit can’t ever get sharpened then what do you do with it , throw it away.
Or you can have a machine shop sharpen it, but it's probably cheaper to just buy another one. But, the spiral bits last for a LONG time. We've been using the same one for about 3 years. We don't use it all the time but it cuts just as good today as it did brand new

Thank you Roger..
Does anyone else feel like Eric is looking at you when he talking about overs ]o
LOL...
It doesn't sound like your a fan mate.
I am a fan but just in certain situations. For most of my stuff I still like a textured look.
