- This clip aired earlier in the year, I expected Extra TV to publish it themselves but I've searched a few times and not found it, so here it is. Not extensive, but interesting to hear a few of Mel's thoughts on Tom Hardy and Fury Road just the same.

He's a great director. Braveheart is great but Apocalypto is an amazing masterpiece.

I love Mel. He's truly a great guy. Everyone has their demons and sadly, that's all the media focuses on. Forget his philanthropy and genius level directing and acting skills. Just report on his short-comings. We've seen this with just about everyone in Hollywood. I've always enjoyed watching his films and will continue to do so.

Agreed. Mel isn't perfect but he has contributed countless treasures to cinema and the world at large. It's so nasty and stupidly near-sighted to just focus on his drunken stupor from like 15 years ago. People just want to shut him down because in his personal life he's conservative.
It would be cool to see Mel as Max again.

Mel Gibson is one of the most talented people in Hollywood....I hate how things went wrong for him....his opinions should have fucking nothing to do with his film career!!...the man is defiantly one of the top 10 male actors ever for me and he's at his best when he acts and directs.....hell the man was the best part of expendables 3 and he was barely in it.....Mel I really hope you come back to your former fame because your movies are amazing and so are you!
We need one more movie with Mel as an old Mad Max. I mean Tom Hardy can play young Max but we need an Old Max movie.
Gibson still could had did another Max film an for personal reasons didn't , but His respect for Tom Hardy taking over the part and support at the premiere of the film shows some character . Hardy's a great Actor and like to see Mel direct Him in a film .

Oh man, Tom Hardy was good, but Mel still looks great for his age, he would've killed it and therefore made it a 'proper' Mad Max movie. This really disrupted the continuity.

As much as I dug Fury Road, Mel is the real Mad Max for me. Tom Hardy can't do every role justice, despite what Hollywood may think. Although, he is a very good actor in his own right.

Mel turned himself around. I really think that he is a good guy. People want to say he's like some evil person but you need to consider the type of life he has lived. People don't just start out with bad habits and addiction problem. You develop that shit through a lifetime of experiences. Everyone in todays society is so willing to just throw people under the bus and not even try to give people second chances. He's responsible for some of the best movies ever made and has played some of the best characters ever written. Now he's devoting his times to helping others and trying to be a better person. Lets all take a look at him and think about how much WE do.

I've only really seen him in the Mad Max films (and Braveheart) so It's so weird to hear him not speaking in an Australian Accent, cause I know he lived here from an early age for like 20 years, so I've always considered him Australian. Weird.
Yeah I noticed he started using that fake American accent not long after he went over after the Mad Max movies. Pretty fake accent.

The interviewer is of Saved by the Bell fame right, I’m from the UK, so I’m not 100% sure. Hearing him speak 20 odd years later almost immediately sent off the proverbial radio waves just a smidge, then hearing about his newfound fatherhood made me look over at that invisible friend we all have that we gawp at wide-eyed in shock and dismay with our jaws dropping to the undercarriage (thanks Kathy Griffin, as I'm more or less using a bit from one of your Bravo Specials). If anyone knows what I'm insinuating/intimating, think Travolta, Cruise, Seacrest ("ALLEGEDLY"), so please do share, or is it just me.
It seems to me that the big performance in this film is Nicholas Hoult's. I like his buddy's performance too. Have to look him up. Ah. Josh Helman.

I think Mel is a good actor, but probably veers more in the direction of movie star, ever so slightly. He’s definitely an out and out great director.
I still don't understand how he picked up the American accent unless he is just putting it on in which that makes total sense.

Problem with fury road was not enough interaction between the characters as we had in the first three Mad Max films , then of course Mel in the starring role , not that I have anything against Tom Hardy but without the original Mad Max it just didn't have the appeal that the originals had.
As cool as Tom Hardy is, you just can't beat Mel Gibson. That's the epitome of cool.
