Benjamin Tomera agree. Kevin is one of the best at this. He does his homework and adds a personal touch to his interviews. I would also like to recommend Jeff Goldsmith's podcasts. He is superb when it comes to movie analysis. Listen to his conversation with Tom Ford about Nocturnal Animals. At one point Tom suddenly says "Oh my God....I love you" after Jeff analyzes the opening scene of the movie. That's what film puffs should do. Not only review but analyze for everyday people to get new ideas from movies.
@@Thomohawk21 even if you don’t believe in the religion, he is a historical figure the vast majority of historians agree he was a real person that existed.
notice how this interviewer (@KevinMcCathy) established credibility early and really got these guys lit up and engaged with his preparation and thoughtful questions - and not afraid to get technical - which Gibson loved. great job and SO rare. usually, these interviews are absolute hell for the movie makers.
I love that interviewer Kevin McCarthy knows so much about films but not as an academic/artsy-fartsy way but with so much enthusiasm and comes off as just a real fan of movies and it makes him likable and disarms his guests and gets great stuff from them. Wonderful interview. LL
Let's get it straight here. Mel Gibson made an absolutely amazing movie from an independent brand and with limited budget, and the result was a total blockbuster movie. This is serious shit, I'll be pissed if he doesn't get an oscar
Kevin the interviewer is amazing reporter for fox Washington DC. He seems absolute genuine and sincere received the admiration and respect of the actors. These are the conversations we want to see but sad they are rare.
Hacksaw Ridge is one of the greatest achievements ever put on film...err digital storage. To bad the SJW critics didn't watch it before they reviewed it. It deserves best film, actor, director, sound, and cinematography.
Anything they can imagine to discredit Mel Gibson, just because they hate him. So many public figures enjoy being offended by him and trying to get more followers. Just check Seth Rogan's mindless twitter campaign against him, supported by the wanna-be-liked Sarah Silverman and many other narrow-minded blind morons.
It is so nice to hear him, a director and actor whose work I completely admire, to talk about a blackmagicdesign camera. I always thought if I wanted to make lowbudget movies, i would start with a blackmagicdesign pocket cinema camera, about which he is probably talking. Anyway, It is just surreal to hear him, a huge movie legend talk about actual cinematography gear, which you would rarely hear from most actors.
My wife and I had the honor of meeting Desmond Doss in the early to mid 1980's in CT when he came to testify of his experiences in WWII. It would be an understatement to say he was a humble, modest man. He was the kindest, most honorable man I ever had the privilege to speak with. God was most certainly with him. The book was far better than the movie but the movie, though toned down, was well done. My guess is, Mel Gibson had to dial it back as to seem more believable. Amazing story, amazing man, amazing God who shielded and guided him.
Desmond Doss gained his spiritual, emotional, physical strength from God. That is the only way he could have done what he did. I am humbled by his faith and actions.
Mel Gibson really was struggling a good decade ago given the repercussions of his irrational and racially impulsive imploded dispute that shamelessly went viral. I believe in second chances and I think from the outside looking in; I am thrilled to see Mel back in the spotlight doing what he loves and is so passionate about- making great movies. I hope his tenure as a director continues and I remember as a kid my dad would put on classics by him, Braveheart, Lethal Weapon, etc. He did a phenomenal job and it made me giddy to see him at the Golden Globes. He handles his controversial past with grace and firm integrity.
Luka Vuckovich and he's not pointing fingers either. Seems he was able to reconcile with his children too, considering Milo Gibson helped with the project
God truly works through his people and their talents that He gave them....Mel is truly under the Holy Spirit...if you look closely all his work was Holy Spirit inspired... This movie is one of the best I 've ever watched...it gave chillbumps and touched my soul...I cried like some kitty...had teardrops in my eyes... God bless you Mel! In the name of our King and Saviour Jesus Christ!
Thanks for this interview, my wife and I really enjoyed this movie as well. Truly not a lot like this in the business these days. Also, congrats on getting married!
I love that Mel made a comeback.. and is excited about directing again.. I'd much rather see him behind the camera than in front of it. It's a shame he couldn't do Mad Max Fury Road... I think Fury Road is a fuckin masterpiece.. and I love it the way it is, but having Mel and Miller come together again, that would have been so cool.
Great question that I ask myself all the time. Did God come to me. Or did I go to God. When I was sixteen and my life and family was falling apart. That event happened to me at 16. And carried me up to this day. So I can really relate to what Mel Gibson said. He is a genius and a very caring spiritual being. We are lucky he is among us! Someday I hope to be working with him!
The violent scenes in this movie are really jolting to ones psyche. This is reality and it ain't good folks. I've never watched a movie with such graphic combat scenes. It's really sad that our lives are inundated from time to time with war. Gibson gives a very exacting view of it, whether you agree or not. If you can with stand the graphic battle scenes then you must see this movie! One last thing. This interviewer is excellent, he asks questions about the movie, it's production and how each persons role in its creation is greatly needed. This guy is good, much better than any other interviewer I've ever seen!
have you never heard of someone pulling a piano out of a burning building on super human strength? Desmond with God's help and guidance became that super human focused on leaving no man behind.
DESMOND DOSS CAME TO SPEAK AT A SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH IN PORTLAND, OREGON AROUND 1960. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET HIM AFTER HIS TALK. HE WASN'T VERY BIG, BUT A VERY IMPRESSIVE, BUT VERY MODEST PERSON. I DID NOT HAVE THE IMPRESSSIONS THAT HE IN ANY WAY THOUGHT OF HIMSELF AS A HERO. HE JUST DID DURING THE WAR WHAT HE HAD TO DO AND TRUSTED EVERY MOMENT IN GOD.
I don't know if anybody has said this yet, but the reason why the real Desmond Doss was physically able to save all of those guys was because he had a real God who answered his prayer. It wasn't him and he knew it. It had nothing to do with his wiry strength, but everything to do with the strength of his faith in an omnipotent God. No criticism intended, but it amazes me that they can honor this guy's strong faith but not his all powerful God. Desmond would be disappointed in that.
I feel like they kind of are in a subtle manner. I mean the whole time he's rescuing the wounded he keeps saying help me get one more, so they do in a way acknowledge his strong belief and God's response.
When Mel was talking about Desmond's strength it reminds me of this weight lifting competition I saw. This small man half my size was squatting 1000 pounds. He wasnt thick husky or tall. He was a little runt but holy shit was he strong.
Who wouldn't be. And it seems that he really likes Mel and that that short intro with cinema tickets is not disingenuous. If it's true then we should expect shit in his knickers. The nervous part is just the tip of the iceberg.
Mel is like Hollywood's Santa man hes back he look healthy and Vince looking older man but can see mel thoughs either on steroids or just had a line of coke.
Actually estimates of the people he saved was 130-150 people, he himself was Hubble and said 50 but the army settled on 75, what he pulled off was a real miracle.
Mel is a genius. I mean listen to him... Glad he's back.
havent seen a movie that good in a looooong time

He's also generous, for allowing space for that beaver to live on his face, what a gentleman.
He was never really gone but I know what you mean
The interviewer is awesome. Finally a guy who does his homework, and is passionate about cinema.
I am impressed by the interviewer who asked some impressive questions and showed his love for the art of movie making.

Vince Vaughn was actually good in his role, I was impressed! Best movie of the year, damn, maybe of the decade.
Vitor Souza I was so used to seeing him billed in screwball comedies I was pleasantly surprised he can do dramas too!

VERY PROFESSIONAL INTERVIEW.
Respectful. No usual questions about Mel's past. He talked straight business.
He was great and actors seemed like being interviewed by him.

2 of the best movies I have ever seen Hacksaw ridge and Braveheart they are way up there for sure.
Mel is a treasure. God bless him.
Hacksaw Ridge is undoubtedly one of his best movies.
Say whatever you want about Mel but he's an awesome director and a legendary actor who has had some rough times but is now a better person
what happened wtih him?
MrWalker1000 he had a major emotional breakdown in 2006 and was in rehab for several years
Some figure making this movie was his way of saying, ''Forgive me.''
He always was a good person
Passion..Apocalypto, now this? Mel is KING. And respect him even more for telling the truth about twisted Hollywood. Happy he's back!

Mel is a legend, but I also really like this interviewer. Good job, friend! Passion and great questions!
This guy gets great interviews. He does a great job and you can tell the actors enjoyed it.
Anything Mel touches turned to gold❤️
Great Movie, excellent actors and Mel is clearly one of the best in Film Making! Appreciate how he honors Veterans.
What a great interviewer, love his passion.
One of the best war movies I have seen. The battle scenes are insanely realistic!
I finally saw this movie a couple of months ago and I have literally watched it 30 times. Definitely 1 of my all time favorites
