So basically it's wise for me to avoid anything that could cause stress or an adrenaline rush. I probably could have watched horror movies just fine but I'd much rather be safe than sorry. Thanks for taking interest, I've always found the cardiovascular system pretty interesting so I'm glad someone sees it the same way!

I relate to the fear of jumpscares as well, but weirdly, even if I hear Dad coming down the hall for example, he could still startle me when he walks by the door. It doesn't matter if I know the exact moment when it's going to happen, it can still scare me, regardless of if the thing actually looks scary or if it's something like Dad walking by the door.

I'm so glad you're both okay❤️ I've started listening to Erin is The Funny One while doing work in my research lab and it makes me sad I didn't choose to watch it while it was airing! If it was still going on I'd suggest you quiz her on horror movie plots, like make up some terrible ideas and find some D list horror movies and quiz her which are real. For my fellow scaredy-cats, another way to distract yourself is to try to be the fastest to react when a jumpscare shows up. The competitive suspense of preparing to scream, slap something, etc helps distract, and sometimes even makes me look forward to it!

Genuinely it makes me really happy to see someone with the same problem as me. The only difference is, I LOVE scary things, but I HATE being scared. And the thing scaring me is the jumpscares. The solution is literally perfect, I don't have the words to describe how awesome it is. It's also nice to see you being so open about how scared you are, I felt a strong kinship

Only problem with that is the jumpscares depend on your actions. An animatronic doesn't always jumpscare you if they're at the door if you're able to close it in time.

The thing is about checking the time codes is that some horror movies, especially older ones, have final acts that just aren't that full of jumpscares. Alien, for example, has its last jumpscare 25 minutes before the end of the film and, similarly to alot of horror films of its time, has a final act that's mostly suspense as apose to jumps

the premiere of Mike Flanagan's "Midnight Club" on Netflix currently holds a guinness world record for most jumpscares in a single episode - 21. the app would go crazy lol. love this!
You could add something in the app , that displays a "might be inaccurate" flag on movies where the difference between the last jumpscare and the movie length is lets say >30 minute.
And you could also have something like "Did this app correctly predict all jumpscares?" Question at the end and u could have verified all scares accounted for flags
I do love that it's a solution to jumpscares, but not the psychological horror of it.

You could add on to this idea with trigger warnings where you could select certain triggers that the app will track for you too if there are any in the particular movie at specific time codes too (I wonder if some website keeps track of that like the jump scares?)
