- This is how to activate your ford perimeter plus that is most likely already installed under your steering column. They started installing these by default on newer models but DISABLED IT VIA COMPUTER.
Documentation you will need. www.broncospor...
You will also need forscan software (free 2 month trial) with ODB for your computer to USB www.obdlink.co...
As a Ford Dealership Technician since 1987 and a Ford Senior Master since 1999, I would like to add a couple of things to your excellent video presentation.
1) Yes. I have experienced this numerous times in my career. Ford WILL build certain models with all the same components....ie wiring harnesses, modules etc. They just do not "enable" such features etc.
2) It is highly likely that no one was really "lying" to you, it is just that they had no knowledge of the system or they were conveying what FoMoCo has told them. I doubt any one was attempting to do anything nefarious, they just were "ignorant" or simply did not know.
That stated, EXCELLENT for you in tracking this down and accomplishing the work you did!!! Very well done! 👍🏻😉
Patrick (Ford Dealership Technician)
Thank you for replying and the compliment. It was an EXTREMELY frustrating process to have to go though everything I went though just to find all this information out. My alarm was even disabled! Like, no alarm at all. I am beyond frustrated with the answers I got from ford and other technicians at ford that had no clue. Thank you for giving me a shout out for my hard work.
@@GoingBoundlessanother question. What type of computer do you recommend to run Forscan? Can I use a Mac? I am thinking it has to be operated in a windows PC. Thanks
I have FORSCAN and its build for windows, however check their site to see if there is a Mac version. They are quite clear with that in the site.
So when Ford tells you you don’t have perimeter+ they are in essence telling the truth…it goes by a “different” name and part number. Find out what the module you have is called, (according to the new part #) and then ask Ford again if they have the “new” module…they would be lying if they said you don’t have it. Wouldnt surprise me one bit. When i purchased muy 2016 F150 Sport, the Ford dealership said it doesnt come with remote start feature. If i wanted remote start, they would charge me around $450. Plus i would need to buy 2 new remote key fobs and have them both programmed. An additional $350. WTF???
Come to find out…if i hit my current keyfob “lock button 3 times in about 7 seconds…it starts…remotely…they were going to rip me off…i am NOT happy the Ford dealer tried to rip me off…but i am happy i have remote start…
I just got a 2021 Bronco Base. Need help trying to get the perimeter alarm activated. Do you know how to activate it?
Good ole foreskin. I’ve used it to do a lot of stuff on my 19 Raptor. I’ll have to check this out too.
Dudes clearly a gamer lol. I have the same laptop and the same heart shaped wear on the left side where your palm rest when using WASD 😂
lol
Hey, is your van a push button start? I tried this with my new push button Ford and on the first cycle the engine starts. I've tried on and off 6 times all kinds of ways and not getting into the menu. I confirmed that Perimeter Plus is already enabled in the config. Where did you find the instructions? Maybe there are different ones for push button starts?
I'm really sorry, i did not see this message until now. Mine is not push start. I know this is way way past due at this point. I hope you figured it out. if you did, please reply.
I would love to know the reasoning behind the factory not enabling the factory security system on a >$50K vehicle of any kind. And then they do really stupid things like using RTV sealant instead of an actual gasket on their 6.7 diesel in the name of saving a few extra dollars. Guess i'll buy a Toyota next time
My thoughts exactly. Toyota all the way. I'm going to make a video on my review of the first transit at 34k miles. It's not pretty. 4 bad shocks. Bad rack and pinion, bad brake pedal assembly and a bad rear differential. I have been in an out of the shop for the last month. It's terrible. I have zero confidence in ford.
Just took delivery of my 2023 Transit 350 after a 22 month wait and 2 re-orders.
The alarm and a few other options got missed by my dealer on the 23 re-order last August and they claimed that their system wouldn't allow them to make any modifications to the order. They also don't have any solutions or suggestions as to how an alarm can be installed after the fact.
I checked under the dash and unfortunately I don't have the module nor can I see any obvious wiring harness or connectors in the area.😢
Blows my mind that a factory alarm wouldn't be standard on a vehicle with a MSRP of $79K Canadian! 🤯
Check behind the cup holder by the passenger door next to the glove box. I have a 23 and found the module there
My base 2020 250 transit doesn’t have the module and no remote start. It came with the 4” screen and no sync either. Just added the 8” screen and Sync 3.4 APIM. Now i can actually see the back up camera image without reading glasses. Hate my life.
Does this still work? I just recently got a mustang eco boost
Thanks GB, after getting the connector and downloading FORScan, sure enough. I was able to enable Perimeter Plus after my dealer told me I would have needed to purchase that option when I ordered my Transit back in late 2021. All this time I was carrying some really expensive tools while building my Campervan and I thought I was somewhat protected. Unbelievable!
Great to hear! I love being able to help people from my own horrible experience.
I was JUST about to add this feature to my custom built Explorer ST, but if this is already onboard the system then I am glad I can save Abit and just activate this system on my own.
Did it work?
@@8.24. yes
@@sriavula it's definitely in there
intersting ill have to look some time on my mustang@@justadood3679
Won't having this enable cause a problem if you live in your van? Since you'll be walking around and shaking the van. I assume if the shock system was working, you'll set off the alarm, upsetting everyone around you.
No, if you're in it, you lock it but don't arm the alarm.
Thanks Going Boundless for this information. I have a 2022 Transit 250 on order and waiting for it to arrive. I'm hoping your information works on my 2022
🤞
Hey GB. Is it possible to share the install instructions with me via email?
I'm sorry but I can't. Mine came with it but was disabled. Open under the steering wheel and see if you have it or wires dangling on the right.
A demonstration of the alarm in the future ?
Yet another reason to purchase Forscan. Thanks for doing all the legwork for us! Much appreciated.
I have a 2017 Raptor. Does it have the perimeter?
I haven’t encountered any reasons yet to get it, one of the reasons are there?
I have the factory alarm and fob remote starter. Would i have the shock sensor also? I can't find the box??? 2016 ford edge
Thank You for your hard work.
Yes it will be interesting to see if I have it on my 2024 transit. The Perimeter alarm was no longer an option when I ordered my vehicle. I was thinking that it would most likely come wired for it. To remove the wiring from the harness when you have thousands of harnesses, why bother to have a different harness for different options, that makes no sense.
Great video. Thanks for your thoroughness. One question, can you add a perimeter plus if the vehicle I have does not have one? I have a 2022 Ford Transit. Many people said that it is not possible.
I believe you can if I'm not mistaken. Open the plastic compartment underneath the steering wheel and check for the wiring on the right hand side there should be an area where you can mount the perimeter plus and some wires that go to it. If it's not there, check for wires that are just disconnected.
Thanks for reply. Not there. No wires found in that location either. Thanks
@@RONJON46331 I'm sorry to hear that. I guess the wiring harness is not universal and based off of the options ordered from the factory.
Did you order your van new, or just buy for off the lot?
It was brand new but off the lot new.
Great video. Thank you! Is it possible to lock the doors with the key fob without arming the shock sensor? For example, press the key lock button once to lock the doors, twice to arm the alarm. I would like to lock the doors from inside the van and not set off the alarm when I walk around inside.
I have no idea! And a hard one to figure out because Ford knows absolutely nothing about their products.
@@GoingBoundless I installed the KN1Z-19A361-A in the same location as yours. Looks like your part number is for the Canadian version. Remote start worked out of the box, but activating the alarm required Forscan. I didn't have to go through any additional processes to activate shock sensors. Activation in Forscan activated everything. Thank you for making this video. A single lock arms the system, but even with the vehicle shock sensor at max sensitivity the alarm doesn't go off when I jump up and down inside at the rear of an extended 2020. Most I got was a warning honk. But if I punch the frame of the van or knock on the glass then the alarm goes off.
@@hittheroadzak5124 I'm sorry, I did not see this message until now. Mine does the same thing but I think after the 3rd warning alarm, it goes into full blown alarm. Mine does this.
Great, thank you for the priceless tip! I will look into this when my Transit 250 is delivered form Ford.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video, and perfect timing as I was just broken into and lost plenty of tools. Installed puck locks but still needed a way to sound alarm once front doors were opened. Found the perimeter plus and was just going to order but thanks to your video I will first look and see if I have that module. Second I will have to figure out how to use Forscan. But thanks for getting me in the right direction.
Any idea if the perimeter alarm sensitivity can be adjusted? goes off randomly 2022 Transit Connect
Yes, there is a dial on the side of it.
@@GoingBoundless having a heck of a time finding information on the location and accessing the shock sensor.. any help would be appreciated. thank you
@@rannievickers8792 What vehicle? On my 2016 F150 it's at the end of the T-harness that comes off of the "Gateway", which is Ford's official name for "the back of the OBD2 connector. There is a small rotary knob on the module that sets the shock sensor's sensitivity.
Great vid, me personally , i will take it to ford and let them do it. Im not that computer savy
Does anyone know where the Vehicle Shock Sensor would be in a 2020 F-150 Lariat, if it already has it??? Bought truck used and window sticker shows - ADVANCED SECURITY PACK - unclear what all that includes. I also cannot find any videos or information on if order the VSS, where and home to install it.
The shock sensor is the exact unit im talking about in this video. For me, it's under the steering wheel.
Can I try doing this on my 2021 focus st line?
Hi 👋
I got a 2023 Ford Transit 150 But it doesn't have Remote start system(key fob only has lock, unlock, panic buttons),does it mean, this perimeter alarm isn't built in for this vehicle?also I looked under the steering wheel & didn't find the device you showed in the video!I am concerned about if someone breaks in?
Kindly give an advice what can be done!
Thank you
Hi there. Just buy the device, it should just plug and play but you will need to activate it properly using forscan like I did the video.
@Going Boundless Thank you for quick response,is it better to get Ford parts or install 3rd party Alarm?
100%, get the ford part. It connects directly to your fordpass account. It will send you notification alerts to your phone and let you know that your alarm has been activated or whatever. You need to add your car to fordpass to see what options you have. I would do it right away to test it out.
@Going Boundless ok,my ford pass working good.
I thank you 😊 for your quick responses,it's very helpful for me.👍
Thanks for the great video. I was searching for this perimeter plus system that costs 215 for Ford dealer to activate them. It was also said, on the Ford Maverick, that these system also comes with Basic Remote Start System. I'm wondering if yours came the same way? Did you find anything about the basic remote start activation?
Yes, mine came the same way with the remote start feature. But that was already activated on mine. Strange!
Thank you! I was able to use FORScan and a Vgate vLinker FS OBD2 USB adapter to enable Perimeter Alarm on a 2023 Transit that did not have the alarm option. I do not have shock sensing -- there is no sensor under my steering wheel -- but at least now I have basic alarm functionality. The alarm triggers after a courtesy delay if I reach through the window and open the locked driver-side door, whereas the alarm triggers immediately if I reach through the window and pop the hood.
Check behind the cup holder next to the glove box. I have a 23 and that’s where my module was located
@@gregorygeniusz7590 Thank you for letting me know. I just checked and there is no control module behind the cup holder next to the glove box in my van. It was worth a try!
Thank you sir
Not the same issue but something along the same lines.
Just bought a 2023 Ford Expedition, I have the park assist button but doesn’t do anything.
Do you think it’s a matter of enabling it too?
I wouldn't know but as someone in technology, and a bit of an engineer, logic tells me that it's there and they did not enable it. It wouldn't be the other way around.
@@GoingBoundless thanks
So dumb question but if I enable this feature, do I just use my remote to turn it on & off? I’m not sure how to quickly disable it when needed. Maybe if I’m holding the remote whatever button I push disables?
It's tied I to your key fob. Double lock and it enables it. Unlock disables it. It's an added feature to your alarm.
@@GoingBoundless Thank you 😊
U r one smart fella! 🙃
Did it work for you?
@@GoingBoundless I don't have a van like this...so not an issue for me. But I'm always supportive of perseverance! 😁
@@lifeoflucretia oh right on! Thank you
I'm trying to learn the vss to my 2016 edge. When it says to hold the brakes and turn ignition on, it actually starts the car because it's a push button.
Hit the button without hitting the brakes. It will turn on the dash without turning on the car.
@@GoingBoundless I did that multiple times. With brakes on , brakes off, engine on, engine off. Never heard the horn honk. I already have the factory remote start and alarm. I am trying to add the shock sensor module. Do I need to go back in forescan and enable the new shock sensor before starting the learning process?
AWESOME!!
Great tip thank you for your hard work!
Would this be the same as the ADVANCED SECURITY PACK that is listed on our window sticker?? I have a 2022 F350 SD that we ordered in Oct 2021. Took 6 months to get it. Anyways, when it was locked, if a moth was flying around inside, it would set off the alarm. We also noticed if I opened the tail gate or stepped on the rear bumper to get into the bed, and the truck was locked, the alarm would go off. So we got the truck in April of '22. Did a 3000 mile break in before we towed our 5th wheel RV. Did an oil change at the dealer. Well, come October, we had another oil change, at the dealer. Since then, the alarms do NOT work, at ALL!
No. this is basically a vibration sensor. The one you're talking about is more upgraded or an addon to this.
@@GoingBoundless Thanks. Mine doesn't work anymore, wondering if the dealer disabled it with out telling me they monkeyed with settings. Will find out soon tho.
Sir Are You Sagitarrius !
Did it work for you?
