... couldn't agree with your glowing-assessment anymore than you. It's beautiful... and that's difficult for me to say about a Prius; a word that was notoriously uttered as an epithet amongst car "purists". We always knew the Toyota quality and craftsmanship would be there... but I never expected this surprising performer in this modern, muscular and rather eye-catching package. My hat is off to Toyota, once-again. They continually demonstrate they are the best car-engineers in-the-world, who listen to their customers... and refuse to bow to the broken-science of globalist politics.
Yes, Toyota nailed it with the new Prius. The drive train and body design is excellent. The best of both worlds in being able to operate in electric mode most of your short trips and hybrid mode without any anxiety of range on totally electric vehicles.
I only worry it will be near impossible to get one now, unless you've already been on a waiting list. Everyone in the market for a small hybrid will want this model.
I have a second gen Prius and after 200k miles, I can say it is the best car I've ever had by far. They are just super reliable. I will never sell this car, I plan to run it until it can't go any longer.

I currently drive a Prius and find it to be an excellent gas sipping car, and this is my second one. 2013 now drive a 2016. I have ordered a vehicle, yet to be produced, so maybe a year from now you can review the Aptera. Only 3 wheels but designed so stability will never be able to tell the difference and might even have a few advantages. Carbon fiber, so fit and finish should be perfect, motors in the wheels so 0-60 in 4 seconds with the three-wheel drive. Drag ecoefficiency at 0.13, yet to get EPA rated, but around 300+ MPGe with solar panels to help charge the batteries. They are very close to beginning production, just need a few more dollars, and they have over 41,000 reservation holders. Strange thing is nothing like this has ever been done, but if Tesla was a revolution into the electric car market, this is an evolution on that, taking into account efficiency. lightweight, super strong passenger cell, that will never rust, and fewer parts, by design, easy to assemble. Should be far more nimble, sports car like in its overall operation. Yup only two seats, but many sports cars are just two seats. Plenty of info on them on RUclips too.
Thanks for quick review! Will you please show cargo space volume with seats folded down, video taping to seats folded up, and with seats folded down, putting known same size storage containers inside it for viewing perspective, such as 20 trader joes paper bags, or 20 trader joe two buck chuck cardboard boxes, or Costco 27 gallon totes, or 15 office depot storage file plastic bins, or basically anything you want that is the same size, and see how many you can fit? This will be useful because local dealerships haven't had a 2022 showroom model to look at (let alone touch or open the doors) in over 2 years, so I doubt they'll ever have a 2023 showroom model because they are on order 1.5 years out. Cheers!
Best small car? I would say best new car overall. This new Prius reminds me of the Corolla e100 released in the 90s. That Corolla just did everything well and was an engineering masterpiece especially considering the cost.
Problem is they are very hard to get right now from the Toyota Dealerships. My local Dealership said you have to be placed on a list to get one. And that can take 3 to 6 months
It's beautiful, most modern cars are way too over styled, with too many lines, looks like something a transformer obsessed kid has designed. Hope this will be be a smash hit hit for Toyota!

Remember: For those concerned with emmissions and global warming the prius (non prime) is a gas engine car. The gas engine runs almost all of the time while driving. Much better to choose the Prime version as long as you drive it in EV mode and keep the battery charged.
Numerous reviews have complained that the semi heads-up display is blocked by the steering wheel..also that the Prius is not particularly quiet on the road. It seems the driving ergonomics are not good for taller drivers...
Hi David, I do appreciate all your clips and videos about Japanese vehicles, but I don't see any videos related to the minivan except the Honda. I would love to see you explain the Toyota Sienna hybrid!! XSE and non-XSE trims.
Thanks for your evaluation! I agree the 2023 Prius Prime is most versatile, efficient, powerful, safe, reliable, and beautiful new plug-in hybrid on the market today. Here is what I will do when I buy mine to improve it further: 1. Get the Prime XSE, then replace the 19" wheels with 17" wheels for max efficiency. 2. Professionally remove the unremovable front license plate panel. 3. Paint the body a cooler color than plain red or plain blue, to dark cherry red, or bronze, or teal blue. 4. Place a large, bold easter egg sticker "Door handle" on the back door handles so my friends don't get caught outside in a storm trying to find the door handles! 5. Mount my phone in a vertical charging base, beside the multimedia screen, so I can charge it as I view and tap the phone as I drive. 6. Paint the interior red stripes to a color that compliments the exterior! Imagine these red stripes with a blue exterior! 7. Cut off the top 40% of the steering wheel and create a horizontal "D" shaped wheel to allow me to see the heads up display. 8. Add a pouch behind the drivers seat. Toyota designers, are you listening?
Do not mess with the steering wheel.. the idea of a steering wheel resembling a racecar is designed for vehicles which you can turn side to side without taking your hands off the wheel.
What about the front bumper? Is that front license plate area molded into the bumper and is that coming to the market like that? If so, it really mars the look up front.
@@TheGecko213 Yes, that can be done. I don't have either. I would rather it be smooth and no molded in license plate block. Toyota could have designed this better. They could have had a removable section (thus preserving the design) vs. the protruding molded block that destroys the design.
It has the same basic lines as my 2017 Chevy Volt, which started with more battery range than this vehicle, and still has the same range as this 6 years later. It’s too bad the public to catch on sooner.
Hello David, Thank you as always for your detailed videos. Do you have any thoughts on Toyota's "New Management Policy & Direction Announcement" from April 7th? They state they are pivoting to introduce 10 new electric vehicles in the next few years, and they state that they also intend to improve PHEV electric range to 200km. Do you have any thoughts on this new direction? Are you aware of any rumours? I imagine, for example, the RAV4 is due for a redesign anyhow - do you think will there be a generational leap in the next RAV4 Prime? What about the Prius Prime? Thank you :)
It seems that it can drive for short distance everyday without burning any oil if I charge daily. Though, will it has any problem that I didn’t run the engine for mths? Petrol car really has problem on the oil quality kept in tank going bad, battery run out, etc.
Hi David, I put a deposit on the 2023 Prius Prime back in June 2022, so should be at the top of the list for when they start hitting the dealership in Vancouver. Strangely, in looking at TC's website, the 5,000 rebate is not listed yet, or 2,000 provincially in BC. I was also checking the tire size for the XSE at Costco and other tire shops and no one has this size. Do you think there will be availability, or would you have to go to Toyota for winter tires? Would there be a problem changing the 19's to 17"s to get the better mileage as it seems the car style is the same. Sadly I have to upgrade to the XSE just for the parking brake assist, while in the US market you can purchase as an option.
We ordered a 2022 Prime last June as well. Just found out the other day, there are no 22's to be had anymore so it will be a 23. But, no delivery until next November. Seventeen month wait !
Did you order from a dealership in Vancouver? Which one? If people are to wait that long, why not get the 2024 model and wait more months! This whole situation is a joke. At least the Federal incentive now shows 5,000, but the 2,000 provincially hasn't been updated yet.

No one makes vehicles better than the Japanese IMO. I've been riding their dirt bikes and now street bikes for over 40 years now.from 60cc up to 1000cc, nothing better reliability. We have had toyotas for generations again, nothing better. American made toyotas don't hold a candle to the ones made in Japan. I almost did not buy my wife's new lexus cuase it did not have a J at the beginning of the vin. I have the highest respect for the Japanese and the engineering abilities.
Say I have $47,000 CAD to spend on any vehicle I want. I live in SK and can get a RAV4 hybrid XSE with tech package for the same money. Living in winter 6 months a year, but taking a ton of road trips the other 6 months, which would you buy?
Hi David! When you say this particular, small car is the best in your opinion, and you go through the quality control features. You have my attention like a tiger looking for an antelope. I don’t miss a syllable that you say because everything not only makes sense for someone to feel safe within the vehicle it’s also , the feeling of spending one’s hard earned money to know that we made the best possible choice and you give that to the people watching your channel. I can’t wait till you get 100,000 on your way to 1 million and so on and so on and so on… Respectfully, JimmyUSAF 🇺🇸✈️🇮🇹🇨🇦🇯🇵🌎🙏👍⭐️
LOL wow 0-60 in 6.6 seconds. Thats like 350z, g35 territory with 50ish mpg... Pretty amazing what efficient hybrid engineering has been capable of in such a small amount of time.
I can’t even consider purchasing a new Toyota Prius in the U.K. as Toyota U.K. has decided not to import any new Prius cars into the U.K. and I have no idea why.
I always find it very interesting when some other part of the world (including mine) put prius in a Mid-Size car not small And you guys also put Camry in Medium Size when we considered it Big-Size😅😅😂
Hey David can you advise us loyal Toyota customers when we in the states can actually buy the Prime and realistic wait time. Been going on 10 months and my Prime still hasn’t arrived. Dealer can’t even tell me when production on this vehicle will commence. Sites on the internet indicate a wait of 1.5 years or more. If that’s the case Toyota should never released the vehicle in 2023 due to major production delays stemming from lack of parts ie semiconductors , lithium batteries and other parts. No and Low supplies of Toyota hybrids will steer customers away to competitors.
I'm fed up with new cars I can't get hold of. And cars I can, I'll have to wait more than one year! Wish all companies had the same production power like Tesla. But I don't want a Tesla.
Regardless of price, yes Prius is the best. But if you take price into consideration, I'd say Qin plus is better. It has 80% of quality but half the price.
Like the latest Yaris I think the new Prius is stunningly beautiful but.... I can't believe the evidence of my eyes that alone among all other manufacturers the rear lights can't be additionally seen from the side elevation. How can Toyota have allowed such omission...? It's a major blunder and I wouldn't have thought the situation legal in any country. I'm all but dumbfounded by the discovery....
small car???? if the prius is a small car what do you call an Aygo X? I really don't get the need for massive cars, it's a waste of resources, even the new european cars are getting absurdly huge and heavy (like the EQS that weights 2,5 tonnes), and then they claim they're environmentally friendly 🤦
My biggest complaint with all 23 Prius and Prius prime is the low egress and ingress. Lack of storage in the rear hatch has been an issue since the 2016 models and it has gotten worse for the 2023. The sunroof /glass roof on the 23 Prius higher trimmed models allows a lot of heat radiation into the cabin, it's terrible, even with full ceramic tinting.
No one over 6' tall can't enter through the rear door, let alone sit in the back. Also on the plug in hybrids - if you use your car mostly on highways, you won't want one. You'll be charging your battery every day and on the highways, do not expect anything even close to the electric only range.
Prius suppose to be economic vehicle right? Toyota forgot the most important part on this car '' AFFORDABILITITY '' Prius prime xse premium cost over $40k plus dealer mark up. I don't think you can put your hands on them less than $45k and least 1 year wait time for '' BEST SMALL CAR''. The car is small but priced '' Huge'' even more than lexus hybrid crossovers (lexus UX and a few more $$ Lexus NX) What is the point of being ''BEST SMALL CAR'' when you can't afford it even you do, wait more than 1 year. Everybody walk through Tesla and get model 3. I am sure Toyota can find 10k financially uneducated people in US but Tesla will get the best small car badge with its cheaper upcoming models. Thanks for the video.
It may be the best new car you can't get. The production estimates for the U.S. Is very low. It sounds the alarm for more markups. I have been a Toyota service tech (30 years)and also a prius owner. (13years). Toyota is a mess right now. No inventory for "normal people". It will be no different for this model. This car has a long road ahead to prove it is capable. The Gen 2 Prius is the bench mark for longevity and durability. I hope they can get it out in real numbers sooner then later. It appears as though the kept true to the prius roots, but made it nicer on the eyes.
David, It took me some time but I finally understand how a plug in hybrid truly burns no gas. You just use another car/SUV/pickup from the fleet for every trip that exceeds the plug-in hybrid's electric range. 😉😉 When Toyota puts the fantastic new Prius Prime drivetrain in a truly practical car like a Corolla wagon, I will agree to call it the best small car in the world. 🤩
great review agreed but good luck getting one, don t be in a hurry and order one for next year that molded license plate on front bumper detracts immensly from the styling of this beauty and thirdly like everything else they jacked the msrp, break open that piggy bank kids
The fact that supplies are limited, you are going to pay a hefty premium similar to a GR Corolla, Rav4 Prime, or Landcruiser. When you add the ADM, I will pass. For all of Toyota's enginuity, they cant figure out how to manufacture to meet demand. Part of the reason the Koreans and Tesla are eating in to their market share.

Another great video…
Say I have $47,000 CAD to spend on any vehicle I want. I live in SK and can get a RAV4 hybrid XSE with tech package for the same money. Living in winter 6 months a year, but taking a ton of road trips the other 6 months, which would you buy?
Was a kia designer working after hours for toyota😮
Exellent!
Can you get a model built in Japan in the US?
the good old alfa romeo GT looked a lot like this. Italy please come back !
I can’t wait till you get 100,000 on your way to 1 million and so on and so on and so on…
Respectfully,

Thank you Jimmy for your kind comments and interest in my videos. I very much appreciate your insight and support as always!
LOL wow 0-60 in 6.6 seconds. Thats like 350z, g35 territory with 50ish mpg... Pretty amazing what efficient hybrid engineering has been capable of in such a small amount of time.
Amazing car.
Just sold my Prius; still have a GS 450h F sport (will keep). Next car is an EV or this….too early for me to jump on the bandwagon just yet
Yes indeed a fine automobile. It’s unfortunate only a few people will be privileged to take delivery in 2023 due to supply shortages.
It reminds me of my 3rd gen Prius, but this is much nicer. Toyota should bring yellow to North America.
Yellow is available in Canada
I can’t even consider purchasing a new Toyota Prius in the U.K. as Toyota U.K. has decided not to import any new Prius cars into the U.K. and I have no idea why.
I always find it very interesting when some other part of the world (including mine) put prius in a Mid-Size car not small
And you guys also put Camry in Medium Size when we considered it Big-Size😅😅😂
Fully electric coming soon David?
Hey David can you advise us loyal Toyota customers when we in the states can actually buy the Prime and realistic wait time. Been going on 10 months and my Prime still hasn’t arrived. Dealer can’t even tell me when production on this vehicle will commence. Sites on the internet indicate a wait of 1.5 years or more. If that’s the case Toyota should
never released the
vehicle in 2023 due to major production delays stemming from lack of parts ie semiconductors , lithium batteries and other parts. No and Low supplies of Toyota hybrids will steer customers away to competitors.
Total range on full battery and full gas?
Red one look fantastic
You got me convinced
cant wait for the 10k markups
Look so pretty. I want to buy one. I heard there big back log.....
Be nice if there was an all wheel drive option for us folks who drive in snow country.
I'm fed up with new cars I can't get hold of. And cars I can, I'll have to wait more than one year!
Wish all companies had the same production power like Tesla. But I don't want a Tesla.
I sell Toyota. They did an awesome job !!!!! not in the Prius but other models as well.
Regardless of price, yes Prius is the best. But if you take price into consideration, I'd say Qin plus is better. It has 80% of quality but half the price.
Does it still have the stupid foot/hand brake that plagues other models of Prius?
What's the gas mileage without the battery, as when the battery dies and you're just using fuel
48mpg pretty sure
So happy Toyota didn't slap on a turbo...ie Honda!
Probably the last ICE car I'll event l ever purchase.
Good comment
Like the latest Yaris I think the new Prius is stunningly beautiful but.... I can't believe the evidence of my eyes that alone among all other manufacturers the rear lights can't be additionally seen from the side elevation. How can Toyota have allowed such omission...? It's a major blunder and I wouldn't have thought the situation legal in any country. I'm all but dumbfounded by the discovery....
Seems very nice, but I detest the dash area! Put the instruments in and not on top of the dash Mr Toyota
I think a hybrid that is attractive is a great
small car???? if the prius is a small car what do you call an Aygo X? I really don't get the need for massive cars, it's a waste of resources, even the new european cars are getting absurdly huge and heavy (like the EQS that weights 2,5 tonnes), and then they claim they're environmentally friendly 🤦
The "Best" small car in the world would have more interior and cargo space. Compromises always have to be made.
Cat converter still easy to steal?
Only thing I hate is the back doors don't have a normal door handle.
I only warranty about how the battery in Canada is ok or die right way
No one over 6' tall can't enter through the rear door, let alone sit in the back.
Also on the plug in hybrids - if you use your car mostly on highways, you won't want one. You'll be charging your battery every day and on the highways, do not expect anything even close to the electric only range.
it's funny how in the US this is considered a small car
Good car NO Gas! Tesla All the Way! Panel gaps don't get me from point a to point b.Full self driving does.
Can you get it in non - plug - in I don’t have a garage for electricity
Yes, and it’s cheaper.
Yes and there is an AWD version exclusive to the non plugin as well.
Remove the "Prime" removes the plug
David, It took me some time but I finally understand how a plug in hybrid truly burns no gas. You just use another car/SUV/pickup from the fleet for every trip that exceeds the plug-in hybrid's electric range. 😉😉 When Toyota puts the fantastic new Prius Prime drivetrain in a truly practical car like a Corolla wagon, I will agree to call it the best small car in the world. 🤩
it’s not the small car in the world but it’s the best😂
There's no luggage space, and the space for the rear passenger's heads is very limited.
great review agreed but good luck getting one, don t be in a hurry and order one for next year that molded license plate on front bumper detracts immensly from the styling of this beauty and thirdly like everything else they jacked the msrp, break open that piggy bank kids
Antiquated… Toyota has chosen the wrong path…. it’s obvious
