This was our First Day in Shanghai, China and we were really surprised by what we witnessed as the vibrant city unfolded before our eyes.
We were told not to visit China for various reasons however once we arrived, we experienced the hospitality of its local people, the modern architecture and how progressive the city of Shanghai felt. The christmas festivities are in full swing too which was a great surprise 🎉🎄😊

All of my western friends who made visits to China came back with extremely high praises on China, on every aspect, such as friendliness of the people, the obvious and overt displays of happiness and satisfaction with their lives, the amount of true freedom enjoyed by the people and last but not least, the food.
Some of the more outspoken western friends even adamantly condemned the lies in the reports in all of the western media. By the way, one western friend even jokingly said while in China, she “missed” the scenery of homelessness situation of San Francisco/Los Angeles!
Hope more people from the western countries will experience the truth themselves by paying a visit to China.

cause most westerners pretty much visit China with expectation of a "shit hole country" (or at least something close to shit hole) in mind due to media lies.
And then when they see a "normal country", that expectation gap already gives bonus points.
Let alone soon realizing many aspects of china are actually better than some of the best countries they''re familiar with.
After moving to China for 15 years, the only thing i miss about California is the weather and family/friends (nope, nothing about the state, country, and what it had to offer)

That's because you're not on the Chinese Internet. You can't read Chinese. Many Chinese people spend Christmas on Tiktok, and it is true that they will be scolded by a large group of netizens. Chinese stars are afraid to celebrate Christmas, they will be scolded for worshiping foreign things, which will lead to the ban. Shanghai is an international city, so the situation is better. The smart thing about the Chinese government is that it doesn't ban things outright, but it does direct public opinion online to resist them. China has not banned Korean TV dramas, but it will encourage Chinese Internet users to boycott Korean people's emotions in order to boycott Korean TV dramas. This is China's consistent strategy.

I lived in Shanghai for many years. Ignore those bullshit comments. Shanghai has always been a relatively quiet city and it's not "depressed" compared to pre-Covid. That person just makes up bullshit. There are noisy cities like Wuhan and Changsha, it's a cultural and traffic law difference. In many places in SH, honking is illegal. Most drivers are too lazy to figure out which part you can honk so they just don't do it.
Hangzhou is another great city close to Shanghai. I visited many Chinese cities and are kind of tired of it. In my opinion, the natural scenery is where China really shines. I've been travelling to China every year for over 10 years, apart from the two years of the pandemic and I've never had any issues over there. I was the same as you guys when I visited for the first time, as I was expecting something completely different based on what I'd been told by our media in the West.
The camera thing is not an issue in China simply because there are so money Chinese recording for social media that it's just commonplace to see folk wandering around filming, so no one bats an eyelid. On my last trip I met a older guy recording himself playing the saxophone in the local park for his social media accounts. It sometimes feels like every man and his dog is recording for social media lol.
Your travel card is definitely a bargain 5 Yuan is roughly £0.55, internal travel in China is very cheap which makes it a great place to travel around to different locations on a visit.

Shanghai was bloody amazing. But you also need to also check out Beijing (the ring city - the 7th ring is 1,000km to circumnavigate - the 1st ring is the Forbidden City, a tourist attraction with modern day Chinese dressing up in ancient attire) and Suzhou (Chin'a Venice, a 2,500 year old modern city with canals and bridges zig-zaging everywhere). It is so true. China is NOT what we've been lied to back home. People need to visit China to see the REAL China. The most futuristic country in the World (and I've been to many countries).

Some of the messages said something about surveillance, and I really laughed. I found that many people in the West feel very important and that the government must monitor themselves, right?? Do you really think anyone deserves to be watched?? I think too highly of myself.
I want to say that you are nothing, and no one cares about your political statement 😅 if your political statement alarms the police, it is because the police are afraid that you will be surrounded and beaten. It's not that you think your words can have any influence. 😂 it's really arrogant.
China, 1.4 billion people, the city is very densely populated, not so many police to monitor everyone.

They were great, I've been to Shanghai and Shenzhen and I had a great time and yes Shanghai is very big and vibrant and it is clean. But if you travel to the outer areas you'll see another side like in all cities. Despite the politics, the people and the culture is awesome. But when you get out of the tourist areas you will see another side which isn't as glamorous and some people tend to treat foreigner's a little different. But you just brush it off and move on, yes the language barrier becomes harder. I still plan to return and yes you really can't see Shanghai in 6 days because it's so big.

There is no need to go to Nanjing East Road, it is flooded with tourists. In fact, the essence of Shanghai is from Jing'an Temple to Nanjing West Road. You'll find a more local feel. Also, go to Xintiandi and Zhangyuan, especially Xintiandi, which is a relaxing place with many modern buildings. You can experience the combination of Shanghai's history and modernity.

If you like modern cities, you can go to Shanghai and Shenzhen. If you like historical buildings and cities with rich culture, you can go to Beijing and Xi 'an. If you like natural scenery, there are more, such as Zhangjiajie and Jiuzhaigou. Come to the three northernmost provinces in China in winter. I'm studying in Leeds now, for a year, I have to say, lot of cloudy and rains, but I am quite enjoy the landscape and friendly people here, and I quite like the sunny days here, the clouds and blue sky are very impressive. I will definitely miss this place when I back to China.@@sunkissedbucketlist

Love Your video in China, have a nice trip. There are many cities you can travel that is not far away from Shanghai, like Suzhou city, half hour far away from Shanghai by bullet train. Zhejiang province are also very beautiful with mountains and fresh air.

China is seeing is believing. Those talk bad about China without going to China is total liar and total control freak like most Americans are. You two are super energetic and good intention people in general.

I cannot help thinking of Marco Polo and his adventures in China. Was he an explorer or a liar? I believe he ended his life in a prison in Italy. That was where he recounted his marvellous adventures. The whole West could not believe him!!

His story is high in truth, but it lacks accurate details, like hearsay.

As a Malaysian living in Osaka Japan for almost 8 years . I can tell almost everyday (Mainichi) Japanese newspapers talk about China and always negative news. 😅

Unfortunately Japan is somewhat a puppet of the US. The peoples need to travel and see for themselves.
