Great video! Tried my first batch tonight after a friend invited me to pick the last of the Missouri Harvest. Fingers crossed! My husband's family is Italian and they don't do it the way you do. I liked pioneering a new path! THANK YOU! Blessings from Kansas City, MO!

Thank you for helping me do my tomatoes, I was a spoiled daughter who took freely when my mom did her tomatoes. Now I am on my own and I do believe that today my mother is smiling down on me. Maybe laughing a little also and correcting my errors, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Shelley

Oh wow Mrs Joan, you were truly blessed with tomatoes! I have to laugh and share, I had your RUclips jingle in my head (off and on) all day Monday! 😅😅❤❤
Im praying for a bountiful bounty of tomatoes this year. I learned along time ago to dehydrate the peels and powder for tomato powder to add to soups, stews, chili etc.
@@lynettesprague287 ~Great idea. I don’t have an air fryer. I just learned from watching other videos by just finding, cut out stem and cut into quarters and roast in the oven, then once done just use a immersion blender to purée..Im going to do that today being that it’s quick and easy process.
Today is my first time - ever canning. I followed your instructions. Thank you. I have a question. I put my 6 jars of tomatoes in my water bath canner. It took 1 hours for the pot to come to a full boil then the water level went down to the top of the lids. (I originally had the water at least 1” above the jars.) I put the lid on my pot and set my timer for 30 minutes. I did not add more water. What should I have done differently? They are on the stove now - so, I am not sure what the end results will be. Many thanks!!!!!!
@@reynwicks If you watched my video I said to let come to full rolling boil, then after that point you set your clock for 45 minutes for quarts. Why did you choose 30 minutes? What size are your jars? I'm so glad you're trying canning for the first time. Don't give up. Write down instructions and start a canning recipe book so you can refer back to your notes every time you can tomatoes and other things you're going to try. Have a small pot of hot water on a separate stove eye boiling so you can add to big pot if water decreases to below 1 inch above tops of jars. Pints 40, Quarts 45 after rolling boil.
@@AtHomewithMrsJoan I ended up doing exactly what you suggested- and the jars turned out perfect. Thank you so much. I just needed to trust the process.
How long do I cook the tomatoes? What if I wanted to make like crushed tomatoes? can I put them in the food processor and then cook the tomatoes and then can them?
I just want to clarify, the juice you have in the bowl is just from the cut up tomatoes and juice from the cores, correct? You didn’t add any water to the bowl?
I don't know what's wrong but I've answered this question now 3 times and it's not there when I go to check it. Weird. Anyway boil them to a vigorous boil and then boil 5 more minutes.
Even better! Score an X on the bottom of the raw tomato and dunk the tomato in boiling water for about 30 seconds. Put tomato in ice water immediately. Where you cut the X will start you an easy peel! And you haven’t cooked your tomato!
If you score and "X" on the bottom, then plunge your tomatoes in boiling water for 30 secs., then plunge the parboiled tomatoes in ice water, the skins come off way easy. Thank you for the video!

Miss Joan !!!!! My water bath tomatoes have separated. Is that okay? They did seal just fine.
If they are sealed, they are fine to eat. Sometimes different kinds of tomatoes do that.

Can you recommend a good water bath canner for me?
