I do not own the 1.8G however I have seen/used it once. I would say the 1.8G is sharp and a good lens however the bokeh wouldn't be on the same level as the 1.4G. Also I personally also like the older D lenses because of their build quality and that it doesn't have the Nano Crystal Coating. The 1.8G however is cheaper, which is a plus, as well as it has a normal lens hood. The D has the annoying screw on one that is a pain sometimes. So for me, optics, bokeh, build quality, and character, 1.4. Price, weight, and the lens hood, 1.8. Hope that helps!
Can you compare the 1.4 d to the 85 1.8g ??
