- The United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon is a 24-man rifle platoon led by a Captain and Platoon Sergeant of the United States Marine Corps (USMC).
Often referred to as The Marching Twenty-Four, the unit performs a unique silent precision exhibition drill. The purpose of the platoon is to exemplify the discipline and professionalism of the Marine Corps. The Silent Drill Platoon, which first performed in 1948, originally as a one-time show, received such an overwhelming response that it soon became part of the routine parades at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. The Marines selected must be male and must be between 5'11" and 6'1" (180.3 and 185.4 cm) tall and be in the median of their weight requirements for their height. Uniformity is a key asset.
Besides how impressive these men were, I appreciate the respect and appreciation shown by the crowd. It was so quiet for a busy city. Great job men and thank you for your service !
👍👍👍👍🗣️📢👏👏👏👏👏
@Repent-and-believe-in-Jesus1 As much as I love the bible and all scriptues I'm not sure what your comment has to due with this vidoeo!
As a Marine. This never gets old
SEMPER FIDELIS
I was in the Marines also! Still get excited watching!!
Forty years since I went to Boot Camp. I've seen them many times. Twice in person. STILL gives me chills! Semper Fi, Devil Dogs!
Semper Fi, ya old fart.
I’m a second generation Marine. My dad was in from 38-46 and served in the South Pacific but never talked about it. I was in from 68-70 and was stationed at Chu Lai 68-69 1st MAW. He passed before I hit 17 and didn’t get to see me join. But I know I love watching these men drill and I know my dad would have loved it too.
Semper Fi brother! Yes He would have
He, DAMN SURE, WOULD'VE, MARINE!! SEMPER FI, BROTHER!!!
From an aging Special Warfare squid, leatherneck!!!
I guess your father saw very grizzly action that caused him to have PTSD
I would imagine that your father suffered from PTSD
My Marine friend Jim never mentioned he had been a Marine. It must have truly messed him up
To the generous soul that recorded this...thank you so much.
Its been over a half century since I joined the Corps. And to this very day, when I see anything like this by my beloved Corps, tears well up in my eyes with great pride. Semper Fi is more than just words. Its my promise to my brotherhood...and yes,to my Marine Sisters...who are as much Marines as any. We arent a branch. We are a breed. OohRah !!!
Well said, and I couldn't agree with you more
I will tell you these Marines train in drill from sunup to sundown. They put so much work and dedication into making The Silent Drill Platoon AMAZING. I'm a Marine and I could never do it.
As a Field Grade O and 0302….I endorse this statement!
never say never devil
Frigging shame that they now are forced to train about LBGQT4 or 7 crap instead of what keeps them sharp
Under Biden's watch the DoD is now forcing promotions based on sexual preference and race instead of being most qualified
Our country is in peril and we had better do something soon
Sure you could. Unless you are too SHORT.
In the parking garage 😅
Salute for the USMC Silent Drill Platoon. I bear witness they are beyond words. The precision and dedication is in their blood. I will never forget in the 80s witnessing one of their own who previously served with them and was no longer active duty due to being blind and missing a portion of his arm due to combat in Vietnam. The Marine was a twice awarded Purple Heart recipient. There were a number of burly vets who barked a demand for the audience to stand at attention with hats removed and absolute silence. Did everyone comply? You bet they did. The Silent Drill Platoon entered while following the lead of their fellow Silent Drill Platton brother who marched in precision cadence and conducted an inspection and rifle toss to perfection! After witnessing their performance more especially the dedication of the disabled Vietnam Vet finish their drill and exit the audience was in awe and even more moving was watching grown men and women in tears. A number of them held a strong salute all the while during the performance or were at attention. A Gunnery Sergeant read off the accomplishments of the Vietnam Nam veteran who sought to perform with his Silent Drill Platoon and when he finished gave instructions for the audience to attend to their seats. There was absolute silence for at least a few minutes before tipoff of a Marquette University Basketball game.
It was MORE THAN WELL-DESERVED!!!
From an aging Special Warfare sailor!!!
Well done, to that AWESOME MARINE!!!
Welcome home, Marine. Ya did a DAMN GOOD JOB, IN SPITE OF THIS COUNTRY!! YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE MY UNDYING RESPECT AND, GRATITUDE, MARINE!!! SEMPER FI!!!
THESE ARE FOR YOU!! It may not be much. But, they are from the heart!! 🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡
I was in the Corps for six years, i.e., three years active duty, two years reserves, and one year inactive reserves. Serving in the Marine Corps made me a better person. I am proud to have been a Marine, but I don't wear it on my sleeve. However, when I see videos like this, I get a lump in my throat.
Been a Marine! What is wrong with you?
@paul Smith.., That is RIGHTEOUS..!!!✨️
3 years active...you are a Marine, two years reserve, Marine! One year inactive, don't know what that means....you went through Marine Boot Camp, you're a fucking Marine, Jarhead! You're reserve duty may have clouded your mind. Semper Fi, Knucklehead! (Two tour DI, Instructor at DI School, retired MGySgt.)
I love their coordination how in sync they are with each other...They really are good at what they do...Thank You Marines
OORAH
What civilians don't know. The silent drill is how Marines fight in the field.
@@whitehorse4318as a civilian who was disqualified from being able to join, I really wanted to become a marine and join the worlds fiercest fighting force.. thank y’all for your sacrifice.
I love everything about the brave men and women of our armed services. Professionalism, precision, bravery, and sacrifice. Thank God for our military.
Although I served in the U.S. army, I see this and it demands respect. Thank you for your service.
Thank you for yours.
As a Marine 42 years ago I was fortunate to see the drill team 3 times simply awesome
These Videos Are so amazing My Dad served in the US Marines and I also have a Nehfew in the US Marines They really are awesome Thank you all for your Service May God Always Bless you and keep you all safe 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
I was a high school ROTC drill team commander the skill and expertise demonstrated by those men is second to none they were my inspiration when I was designing our routines and my team was excellent in their performances USA USA USA!!! props to my team from Bethel High School Hampton VA c/o 1990
I was in the Marine Corps Reserve for 8 years. It always fills me with pride when I see the Silent Drill Platoon. I remember how much time we spent at Parris Island learning how to drill and march. These guys are the best.
Great work US Marines, best wishes from the UK.
Wow wow wow!
Grace,beauty, elegance
Pride! No other branch of the military can look so good
Oohrah!
No other branch eats as many crayons as the merines! OORAHAHAHA!
Jarhead here…One of the better performances I’ve seen. And I watch their demonstrations at every opportunity. Semper Fidelis, Marines. A job well done..Bravo Zulu! Ooorahh!!
Sending you a hug from a chairhead mom!❤😊
That should have said jar head😮
As a Marine myself, I watched both the M.C drill team and the Army's and it's like comparing a HS football team to an NFL team. No comparison at all🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
They have different styles, rifles, uniforms and part of the reason the M.C silent drill platoon is so precise is because they basically do the same thing over and over again. So does the Army, but not to the extent the the M.C does. Also, a little bird told me that Marines have a little bit a pride in the Corp, so. I think you might have a little bit of bias. All that said, if you’re still looking for a Military Branches drill team to rag on, I suggest the CG.
@@jacksonreese17 The silent drill team in the M.C is an MOS along with the band. That's what they do for 8hrs a day, 5 days a week and it's almost impossible to get into. When I seen the Army, they were dropping their rifles and wasn't as in sync as the Marines. The Army was good to watch and they were good, but the Marine Corps were on a whole different level than any other branch!
@@DzHarryNuttz The band is its own thing completely. SDP is composed of Infantry Marines, they are selected in boot camp and given an opportunity after they complete School of Infantry to try out. If they make it, they do a 2 year tour then move on to the Fleet Marine Force. At least thats how it was when I was in the Corps, one guy in my boot platoon actually made it! I am from the D.C. area, and I met up with him a year after boot camp on a 4 day weekend and got the .05 tour. They also still go to the field and do miserable grunt things, and are required to do all the annual training like every other Marine.
I could tolerate the army drill team if the announcer would shut up.
No kidding
My high school JROTC was( not sure if still have it) a Marine JROTC. We had three drill teams. The girls team, men's normal drill team, and the exhibition team where did this kind of stuff ( with out the bayonets). My sophomore year we went silent. Our trophy case was bigger then all our sports teams cases combined. We where beating colleges and military academies. Hard work and dedication. Ten days after graduation I was in boot camp. MCRD Santiago platoon 1070 1985.
I'm gonn assume that was an auto-correct on "MCRD Santiago".
Razor sharp precision. Thank you for keeping us safe.
The fact that 24 rifle butts can sound as one is just astounding. Total respect!
These guys saved my life. Watching these silent drills made me love our country even more.
Thank You For Your Service
Such precision and discipline. The USMC drill team is top notch!
Be still my heart...faces with no reaction...clicking sounds twirling the guns...perfect timing.
Lean...Mean...MARINES. They are THERE first.
🤴🏾🇺🇸🌎🦅⚓With that said once a Marine Always A Marine. I never get tired of watching 8th&I Headquarters Silent Drill Team Marine Corps Ooh Rah! 💫🌠
Ohh rah

I have such respect for our military that the families that miss them. My son is a Sailor (recent bootcamp grad) but my appreciation for the precision and honor of these Marines makes me feel very proud. Thank you to all that serve and the families that love them.

I absolutely love & admire watching these drills. Much respect. ♥️🤍💙
Great job as always men. Semper Fi!
This is awesome
Freaking awesome!!! I dont care how many times i watch them perform!
I was a member of the Sabre Flight Drill team at Texas Tech AFROTC back in the day. This was an outstanding display of skill A+ and thanks for posting.
Goosebumps as to how wonderous this is!!
PS SO SHARP AND CRISP, YOU MEN ARE THE BEST!!!
Im glad that there are still young people who still believe in what makes America great !!!!
Speechless
Awesome!!
Outstanding!
There are no words, except WOW!
One thing I never understood was they're all LCpl's and that can only mean they've spent an immaculate amount of training for Silent Drill. Outstanding.
To be part of the silent drill platoon you ahve to be infantry and upon completion of infantry training you spend the first 3 years of your contract in the silent drill platoon. Once complete you go back to an infantry unit.
Spotted at least one PFC in the formation.
Not true
There is a Corporal in the formation. He is in the middle of it.
I saw one of these fantastic teams a few years ago at the Harrisburg Farm Show arena. The arena had a dirt floor.
So they couldn't hear their foot steps! They did an amazing show.
Semester Fi
Mesmerizing. Perfection. I've watched old black and white Marine Corp drill videos at the end of old war movies and military documentaries. These men are proud American Marines.
Real inspirational I always like that show
This is so awesome to watch coming from a military family I respect all military branches these men and women fight for our freedom eveyday
Amazing.
Amazing
They are good at what they do. Excellent uniformity. A proud group! 🇺🇲⚡
Impressionnant!
You know what gets me is the contrast. Look at all the entertainment displays behind these Marines. Loose , undisciplined, decadent and then look at and listen to the crowd. They do not even realize the significance of what they are seeing. Team work, discipline, Esprit de corps , sacrifice. As a veteran myself this makes me think, " How long are we going to last like this as a country?"
We are deep s--t my friends and most people are too busy staring at their cell phones or should I say self phones to notice. God deliver us.
My Dad is a Vietnam Vet and he showed me the silent drill platoon when I was a kid. I was in awe. I'm 47 now and I'm still in awe. You are so right, the undisciplined crowd is watching a trained UNIT. The very demonstration of selflessness. They are one. They are harmless to the US, her citizens and the US Constitution, but they are feared around the globe as the most ready, capable and motivated professional fighting force this Earth has ever seen. Like my Dad always said, "First to go, last to know." I was a deputy sheriff for 15 years but I still regret not joining the USMC after high school. I'll never know if I had what it takes. God bless the USMC.
They’re recording it or showing it live
Thank God the Joint Chiefs of Staff were going to resign en masse if Trump hadn’t stepped down after the January 6 th Insurrection. Hope no one else in the upper ranks of the military would of been willing to take a quick promotion. I agree that we need to show more respect to each other in this country. We need to respect and remember those who gave their last measure to preserve our Democracy. I know there is a strong pull toward Trump within the military. I just wish those people would take a hard look at what he really represents. I’ll step off my soapbox now. What a fantastic display of discipline !
its gonna last as long as there are Marines like these and myself with breath left in us
Omg amaizing!! ❤️❤️
Perfection. Semper Fi!!!!
I loved it ❤ we need to see more of our ground troops displaying themselves.
That is a Marines at his finest. God bless.
Phenomenal!!
Bravo!!!!
Awesome ❤❤
Ironically for being called "Silent," the synchronized sound is one of the ways of telling how good they are. They are *milliseconds* apart. If you were asked to make a sound with your left and right hands simultaneously, you wouldn't be this close. These are 24 different people who often can't see each other.
I love and admire all service people ❤
Incredible. The best of America!!
Thankyou for sharing 3 of my family has served as marines and 2 son in laws have served naval and marines so bless them for doing their duty to American services. My brother in law served as a physician in all four branches and retired a Brigider General thanks for serving.
Take some time when in DC to see just how our fallen are respected. Most moving experience I've ever had. We must honor them all.
BEST OF THE BEST, PERIOD.
Semper-Fi!!!! Love the Silent Drill Team. I remember hating close order drill at P.I. Then a buddy of mine got assigned 8th & I right out of MOS school. He was scared for sure……cause of our respect for our Silent Drill Team brethren. Cause of our respect for their discipline. God bless our fellow Marines, God bless our corps, god bless our country….in that order.
I served in the Marines and seen them live a few times truly awesome, semper fidelis forever!!
Outstanding !. The World's Finest US Marines. Semper Fi
Even though I am not trained and a civilian, you are so impressive, and I would gladly give my life for yours. I AM SO INSPIRED! Thank you for what you give. I love you!
i think thats called teamwork and excelent cooperation
When I raised my right hand in the rain in Orleans Mass in 1985. The 8th & I were there. Of all the things I’ve done since.. nothing compares. Semper Fi.
Always gives me goosebumps.
I'm an old Marine-there's no such thing as an "ex" Marine-so old that we were still using muskets when I was in.
I was fortunate enough to see these fine young men six times during my career. Every damn time I'd get a big lump in my throat, this time was no different.
Not once did I see a Marine drop his rifle. however, I did see a Marine fumble his weapon one time and his recovery was so smooth the crowd give him kudos just for that.
Semper Fidelis!
Semper Fi Marines, thank you.
So cool
Very impressive. Greetings from the Netherlands.
THAT was one of the most impressive precision I have ever seen 😮
Those are some fine young men. Perfection. Much for all the rest of us to be proud of. Hoorah! I was Army Huey Crew chief/Door gunner in the Nam '69/'70. Love the Marines.
This is what America should look like. Proud, Brave, patiots! This makes me proud.
When I was heading to desert storm I would watch the practice, amazing group
This is Nice ,
This group particularly sharp👌
Very Impressive,
