    Lauren Lopez said before she is a classically trained singer and struggles with the very broadway sounding songs. You can definitely tell she feels more comfortable singing more classical sounding songs like When You Gotta Go, but she has also improved a lot and is a very good singer.

      It sucks there weren't enough songs to show off her ability in Black Friday. They almost all required her to use her lower register and a specific, darker tone, two things that don't flatter her voice a lot

    • @morgancasey3223
      @morgancasey3223 4 года назад +69

      @@stephenfiora506 I actually disagree, I think she sounded amazing in the lower register and you could tell she'd been practicing and working hard on it. She didn't sound as strong as if she'd been in a higher soprano register but nevertheless she did amazing and I hope she keeps working on this lower register.

    • @mb-176
      @mb-176 4 года назад +47

      @@stephenfiora506 I disagree. In the RUclips recording she was sick, so she doesn't sound her best, but in the cast recording her lower register really shines. The cast recording of Adore Me is really good and her vocals are great imo. As a soprano, Lauren always sounds her best in her high register, but i was very pleasantly surprised by her lower register in Black Friday.

      Dov Scheinbach it doesnt matter too much to understanding if you dont know music anyway, but the number is the octave, the capital letter and lowercase b/hashtag is the key/note
      e.g C#5 is C sharp in the fifth octave
      Edit: I completely forgot to add what sharp and flat even is oops
      A flat (lowercase b) is, in the most simple (and slightly inaccurate) terms, a slightly lower sound than the note, while a sharp (#) is a slightly higher sound.

      I don't a lot about this kind of stuff but Jeff is an amazing vocalist! TGWDLM doesn't show how good he is. I also thought he was "meh" before listening to him in The Trail to Oregon. When the World's at Stake (Reprise) illustrates it perfectly in my opinion. The joke with Joey who can't hit the same note as him was like a shock to me because it made me realize how high and powerful it actually was ! It also feels as if it's his best range. It's less showy than The Grind for example though so it isn't as obvious... Jack Bauer definitely was one of his best roles if not THE best one. It was beautifully written (characterisation wise and range ? wise) and I hope he gets to play more roles like this. TGWDLM had him being too goofy and "intense". America is Great Again was his best song and I wish he would be more popular when he plays "serious" parts!

    Just two things that I disagree with. The jaw moving with vibrato doesn't necessarily suggest that the vibrato is forced. I know several people who their jaws just happen to move when they're singing. Second, whenever you said people were nasal, I think you were mistaking that word for bright. It's more likely that the spot in their range that happens is just brighter than the other parts. Other than that really good analysis.
    If you haven't done a second one already, I really hope you make it and talk about Jeff's falsetto. He can hit the notes, but it sounds really untrained and he has a LOT of intonation issues when he's using it. (PAAAAUUUUUL) sustain anyone?

    I really appreciate the honesty in this. I feel like a lot of fan videos are just "Strength: Everything - Weakness: Nothing". Which is obvious not always a bad thing, everyone else to support their favorite artist whole-heartedly. But it's also good tp see that even great singers have their weak points, and theres a lot to learn from that both from a viewers POV and an artists.

    What you say about Mariah’s chest mix and stuff reminds me of pre-hiatus Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy. He’s an amazing singer, but he used to use his chest voice to sing high notes. When he did this, you couldn’t really understand what he was saying because of the strain on the notes. He doesn’t do that anymore, but you can hear it in the early work before the band went on hiatus (this was 9 years ago when they announced it, so he’s obviously gotten work on it.)
    Okay I’m done

    This was a really well made and researched vid!!! I was expecting something more on layman’s terms and was really pleasantly surprised. The only thing I’d say is that I think Robert’s high belt can sound forced at times, a la Twisted. You could tell he was straining. It may have been the choreo, it may have been his technique.

    writing this in 2021, after having watched the DVD of homecoming, clips from Starry (with Dylan and Mariah), and slime tutorials from the Mean Girls NT, the improvement each of them has made is incredible! Dylan rarely forces vibrato, Jaime has leaned into a more supported belt instead of manipulating her larynx, Mariah sounds better overall, and Lauren has improved her belt a lot.
    As a vocal student, I'm super impressed with all of their progress and it's a huge inspiration to me.
    Some other excellent starkid/tcb voices that i'd love to see you cover: Curt Mega, Kim Whalen, Joe Walker, Brian Holden, Meredith Stepien, AJ Holmes, Clark Baxtresser.
