15:00 "I'm not desperate to change my misses at the moment" 🤔😂
shmavitz, lmao
Yeah I've heard of a prenup but never an Evoke lol
Thanks Rob for taking us along to the auction, I have never been to one so very interesting and you gave a very useful insight into what would be required to get a car in good order if you managed to snag one!!!
john goodall 👌👍
Small mileage on the land rover means it was driven furiously by "I'm a mother!" school runner, and all that kerbing proves that
It could also mean that it was constantly laid up awaiting repairs...
Good listening to a professional years of experience.
Years ago i used to go to car auctions with a family member, we used to buy a couple and make a tidy profit on them, i was only a youngster at the time and i got half of the profit, i felt like a big time car dealer. Now as the years have gone on i think its hard to come across a good deal in the auctions as the fees are a lot more than they used to be and the rules have changed about paying with cash etc. Love the videos, brings back some good memories
I am with you, no bargains at auctions anymore, it's mostly large dealers buying and selling now, the fees are ridiculous can be £500
ya need a million to make anything these days!!! Best way to make money in england now is to be a refugee get free house car the lot!! sad to say the working english man suffers these days
@@Emtbwebb not just English working man suffering , everyone who is working have more issues than the other one ones lives on benefits
@@Emtbwebb They wouldn't be here if Britain had not sent terrorists (Al-CIAda) to their country to destroy it (Libya, Syria), or done an illegal war crime invasion itself (Iraq). The real problem is EU free movement and all these eastern europeans that can come in with no limits.
The fun is gone
Interesting Rob, keep doing different things like this it helps with car valuation to see what they make.
I liked the auction videos. Thank you for uploading.
Nice down to earth chat, no bullshit. Keep the GOOD work up.
Common Sensicle thank you
one of highlights of my youth in late 70s was going to car auctions with my dad and uncle :-)
Very good really look forward to seeing your video every week
Excellent vid, thanks for sharing.
One of the fastest growing car channels last year and this year no doubt. Well done mate!
Very interesting!
Love the guy in the red top and jeans 33secs in. Very professional tyre kicker.
Great video I remember my dad talking me and my cousin to a car a Auction And him buying a Ford angular On the way home the rear springs came through the boot he fixed it up and took it back to the auction and made £10 profit
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Rob, great to watch your analysis at an auction! Love this type of video.

Well he has one more now me haha..
You guys are so down to earth with your video's, it's like a breath of fresh air. best wishes from Montreal, Canada.
Thanks for the video. Havent been to an auction in a while . Brings back fond memories
I know one Auctioneer who worked for one of the Big Motor Auction groups that was warned about Not getting the prices that were expected for vehicles because he Refused to bounce bids off the wall, he felt pressurised by this and left after working years for that company and went into Retail car sales at a main agent.
Most auctioneers are ruthless . They look down at the reserve . and then start the bidding , You only hope is the reserve is set low , and hope to get a quick hammer
Max S . They know the people in the trade because they are there all the time like me and know what they can get away with but they love the Private Punter who haven't got a clue what their doing and take them for every pound they can screw out off them. Most never realise that there are buyers fees on top of the Hammer Price and get another shock when they go and pay for it. The Auction I use even charge them £25-00 for sending the log book of to Swansea, they will only give you the Reg. Document if your trade, it's a Rip off from start to finish and it's only when they get the vehicle it wasn't the bargain they thought it was.
@@davidellis279 # Manheim stopped charging £25 for change of logbook a few years back because it is illegal to charge for a service that is free ~ so just put the fees up instead . Bought focus 2008 1.8 titanium petrol full history , black leather for £500 115 k .... .. only cause the reserve was set low , in a different auction lane the same car could be £900 ........ Auctioneers just go by the reserve in front of them , they dont care a car is too expensive . They must get commision for hitting reserve price ! the buyers fees kill profits ....unless your dealing in cars £3000 plus with £1000 mark up after buyers fees
With the amount of flooded cars you see caught on national tv they must end up in auction thus the tell tail condensation issue, bought my daughter an Irish plate Nova back in the 90s couldn’t get rid of the dam condensation no matter how I tried.
Great vid again keep it clean guys this guys a gem 👍
Al wild thank you 👍
i dont know whats happening at auctions them cars pulled good money no wages left in them when cars bring forecourt prices at auction you know its time to go home
John White. Your not wrong, people get carried away at auctions thinking that there going cheap, the thing they forget is most are sold without warranty and test drives are Not Allowed, they are sold as seen and it's yours the minute the hammer goes down with any faults it may have, then of course you have the buyers premium which can set you back another £500-00 and then some auctions charge you another £25-00 for sending the Log Book off to Swansea in your Not Trade or have a traders Insurance. Never buy at Auction unless you take someone with you that knows about vehicles, it's a minefield and you have to know what your doing because if you buy a Lemon it could cost hundreds of pounds to put right. Vehicles sold with Warranty, it normally lasts till the end of the sale and You have to advise them of any Problems and if they don't agree with you after looking at it your STUFFED that's the end of it, You will not get a refund. If you buy a car with an AA report which you pay for on top of the car don't automatically think everything is Covered because ITS NOT, things like Turbos and Duel Mass Clutches are Not covered and can cost Hundreds if Not Thousands to have repaired depending on the vehicle make. I got caught out on a BMW X3 Diesel 4x4 Clutch which cost £1150-00 to repair and I've been in the job for 40years so it can happen to anybody, it went two days after buying it at auction and it came from a BMW main agent, be careful very careful when buying from an Auction and read all the terms and conditions Before Bidding.
Yea we went to a van auction in Merthyr Tydfil Wales and they were all going for silly money. If you have an old nail to sell that would be the place.
Sometimes hanging around to the end can be useful. Back in 1988 iirc I picked up two mk2 Cavaliers, a Commander and an Antibes for £250 plus fees. Both cars looked terrible but the truth was neither had seen soapy water since new. Two days cleaning and detailing left me with two cars that made a grand each. As you say you have to be picky. And NEVER buy with the heart!
Back in 1988 . that was the golden era of bargains at car auctions .
At the moment prices are mental . not enough stock and to many car dealers .
get better deal buying private !
Great video thanks
Brilliant vid Rob, haven't been to an auction for many a year, hasn't changed much. Be interesting for those that like to see the whole process, from auction to prepping then selling on, keep it up mate.

Love these sort of video walkarounds etc, just walking round randomly looking @ cars etc lol
Lads I wouldn't be surprised if that truck loaded with the luxury cars was headed for Ireland, I live close to Rosslare Europort and everyday trucks loaded with luxury cars arrive from the UK, the money you can save on a specced up luxury car is unreal, if it's an Irish registered car, you pay €25,000, if it's a UK import it's €20,000 but it carries a health warning, most of the cars are lease company cars and are abused and have serious faults that end up costing thousands to repair.
also insurance loss reregistered and not categorised from uk salvage auctions.same thing happening all over europe.
Hi rob love the auctions but the prices are way to high. But if you wait iam sure there is a bargain to be had some where. Keep up the good work you and chris.
I enjoyed watching that. I used to go with a couple of friends to a car auction near Frimley. That was a long time ago. I remember one of them told me not to nod or scratch my ear, or I've just bought a car. Ellis.
local auction house to me, i must take a look up there one
day my self.
Address please
always good to watch a car auction live well done rob keep these videos coming always a joy to watch
Good insight.....cheers lads
00.33 tyre kicker - timewaster 😂😂😂
It must be private buyers taking some of those cars for that money, people automatically think you get a deal at the auction but add the fees and risks involved, that's not always the case, good vid mate 👍🏻
ejs355 to true. Thank you 👍
You’ve got to be careful at auctions, the last one I went to, the auctioneer was racking the price up when no one was bidding. 🤨
Vic das not good.. lol
All auctioneers bounce bids off the wall. Houses too. Gotta be alert or call them out by asking who has the bid. Annoys them HEAPS - LOL.
All auctions do that especially when their selling a Lemon for a well known Vendor and nobody is bidding, their hoping some private buyer will jump in thinking their getting a bargain, the trade know better and back off leaving the private punter who knows nothing about vehicles to carry on bidding until the reserve is met and then bang it's yours, don't think because it's at auction it's going to be cheap and don't think if it has an MOT it's going to be roadworthy or drivable because sometimes they aren't.
@@davidellis279 Agreed. It is illegal in New Zealand to bounce bids (But they still try it with the noobs)
Not only does the auctioneer rack the bids upmates of who are selling the cars do it and then phone there mate to tell them it was them bidding and it is sold provisional as it as not made the price and then they dont accept the bid and it goes back in the following week till some fool comes along and falls for it when there mate backs out at the last minute common practice
Great video Rob, it just shows how careful we have to be when buying any car. I would buy the odd (unseen) repossessed car, but after checking the mileage with DVLA . Get the videos coming Rob, when you can.....
Great video I haven’t been to a car auctions for at least 40 odd years
william walker 👍
All those motors through the block went for daft money, that tatty old FOX, worth about £500, MINi was probably worth about £1200 tops to make any profit and the 500 about a bag of sand. A lot of times your up again people who can't spot defects or are buying the cars to drive into the ground. Really enjoy these videos.
Interesting to watch an auction in another country. No real bargans today, but you never know when you'll find one.
Good Stuff please keep on making them Cheers
Fred Wakefield 👍
Great video, thoroughly enjoyed the auction section. Doing my A Levels, decades ago... I couldn't decide between becoming an auctioneer, barrister or social anthropologist. Didn't do any of these, though did do law.... I'd still love to be an auctioneer, so thank you for bringing this video!!
Thanks Rob excellent video mate more please George in Stoke 👍
GEORGE Ikin 👌👍
That x3 had damage on the rear quarter as well as the front wing so that will need doing and I'd say it wouldn't be cheap

Good video, Thanks Rob 👍
Someone will probably correct me but I think they used the old floor plan of the x5 for x3 to make way for the x2 & x1
Acorn Clothes possible 👍
Used to use public car auctions all the time, stopped going a few years ago as prices always seemed mental. I only really use salvage ones nowadays & recently them prices been quite strong.
Loving the channel so much I'm now going through the archives! Just a thought, and I know tou can spot re-paints at a glance, but a paint micrometer is shirt buttons to buy 😀
Hi Rob, great video, nice walk round in the auction car park, there are a few cars to buy and browse through, that Mini was fetching alot of money, but you gotta know what to look for in these.
I used to go in the late 80s early 90s to the car auctions, (mainly adt at various locations in the uk). but i find that they are not worth it anymore because back in the days it was 99% car dealers (who looked dodgy as hell!) at these auctions who knew their cars and what to pay for them. But as time went by a lot of private buyers started coming and everything went wrong, they just didnt know what to pay for them. And yes if you wait till the end of the auction you can get a bargain.
Great rob i really enjoyed that especially looking out for the over spray on the lights , great tip.
mass gussy 👌👍
Brilliant, awesome video - most interesting.
That’s the problem at the moment at auctions, the prices people pay for some cars is ridiculous. It was the same at salvage auctions as well, that’s a reason I stopped buying salvage at the moment.
I enjoyed your video.
Last auction I went to I had my eye on a Peugeot partner van nothing else, I went to get a burger while I was waiting for it to come up got stuck in the que and missed it 😁
Haha just my luck that is 😂
@@MrChriso719 😂 the burger was crap as well 👍
Really interesting Rob, didn’t know if you were allowed to open the cars and hear the engine running. I didn’t see you doing that so I guess not. Again really good content. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🏴
These vids will come in handy when I pop down to my local auction house. I'll no what to look out for thanks
matthew greenwood 👍
Great upload! It makes you wonder what the people plan to do with the cars when they are paying top dollar for them at auction instead of grabbing bargains, there can't be much left on for a decent profit. Cheers 👍 Jack
That place seems tiny compared to BCA's in the Midlands. Haven't been in a while but they used to knock out "no reserve" knackers for like £75 or £150
You pay more in commission now!
Great video again rob ,enjoying all the different content.

I had vision of your face in my mind when that Mini went through, I was waiting for you to shout that old Yorkshire war-cry, "HOW MUCH!!!"
Bootneck I did you just couldn’t hear it 👍

I've never won anything so here we go Brilliant channel and I don't miss ant of them .
Auctions are dangerous places . Never go to one without a previous visit to see how the land lies. How much did that fiat go for ? it all seemed a bit to go a bit runny in the end.Took me back to 1983 when i used to go to Southampton and i am sure i bid against myself a couple of times. Very interesting vid. How the song changes but everything stays the same...

I'm seriously considering getting in to a bit of trading after watching your channel, Rob. I'm a programmer, so totally different, but you're an inspiration mate! Keep up the good work!
Dan Stuchbury thank you 👍
Dan Stuchbury, Don't believe all the Bullshit you see on here, I've been in the motor trade buying at auctions for over forty years. The trade polish the balls of these trade inns to tempt you into buying them, don't be fooled into buying some of these vehicles, if there was any money to be made in these vehicles they would be selling them on the forecourts. Not all trade inns are bad but you have to be very careful with them and if you've no experience in the job your on a hiding to nothing. The best advise I can give you is if you can't afford to loose money on them Don't Buy and never use borrowed money to do it. Just remember your up against the Experts in the Motor Trade who are Ruthless and enter vehicles knowing their knackered and sell them without reserve or Warranty, once that hammer goes down its yours regardless of any faults it may have, you have no rights to claim against anyone, be careful very careful.
@@davidellis279 thx alot foe ur kind advice!!!
@@davidellis279 This channel is great and I don't know why you called b/s? He is honest and knows where the game is, like you spending over 40 years there buying, he is looking for the 1 in 10 that he can turn a profit on!And if there's no money in it, why have you been buying there for 40 years?
I had a family member who run a central London auction back in the mid nineties. He said it was like playing poker whilst seeing both hands. Any big value motors coming through that were being disposed of in a hurry were probably sold without seeing the rostrum! There was a lot of crap there, one car he sold only went in reverse, they staged it so it had to reverse in and out and it sold. The geezer cried like a baby but my brother just pointed to the T's and C's on the wall. But maybe around 10% of them were worth a punt?
The other thing at auctions is watch the auctioneer, he was paid £600 a night back then, they are masters of running it up. So if you are genuinely bidding on a car, but it is a bit below where it should be, he will just look out the door and bang a few bids in to get you up to where they want it. Obviously his job was to suss the bidder out and not lose a live bid. But it is well known that there are a few shady practices around that game.
I went into that place in Ashford, and spoke to the auctioneer, I asked him if he could point out a few cars on the stock list that had been through a few times that were still up for sale. He knew we were all on the same page. You can make a bid on a car if it didn't make reserve any time once it been through at least once.
There's basically three prices for a car, trade in, private sale and dealer price. So depending on why the owner is selling is what dictates the price he will accept. Mr salary man will most probably trade in every few years as he like the bloke down the dealers, trusts him he does!
Mt do it yourself, watches you tube to fix his own car, harder these days without EOBD stuff that costs a fortune, and he will want to get more money by a private sale, and he maybe has the time to wait to sell it and wont go below his pre determined number.
Where the money is, is the one who's selling cos he needs the money, downsizing etc. When they need the cash is when the sight of the cash makes em bite!
But where Rob and Chris win, is having the workshop up and running, so it is like a zero cost to them. Put a days graft in and they got a car to sell at a profit, for those with the skills but no facilities you have to factor in another £2-300/day for that. I have a man that will repair and paint any panel for about £150 unless it is proper smashed, needing a new panel. But I don;t have access to a workshop so most of these jobs wouldn't be economically viable. I have looked at the salvage side, but judging by the amount being sold abroad, Poland, Romania, Hungary etc, and the prices they go for I can only see it working if you have a doner car. And my guess is the doner car they have they didn't pay much for it if you get my drift?
@@davidellis279 Fully agree.
Enjoyed that cheers
Great video as usual, i bought my van at auction direct from the police, keep up the interesting content cheers.
Great videos. This is my local auction. I was doing this for a while and would like to do it again. The problem I had was I was too nice and did too much. I had one woman that told me the oil was too black so I changed it for her. It's hard to compete when you're providing that level of service with correct insurance etc. as some of the people you see at the auctions look like they would sell there own granny a written off deathtrap they had patched up on the cheap. I enjoyed it though and will do it again when I have the time. Would like to give Copart a go.
