Loads of info / links etc below 👇
Winners of free copies of Pure Upright have now been chosen. If you're not a subscriber, sub and hit that 'all' you bell. Most of my vids have giveaways. Winners: Cosimo D'Astore (YT), David (Twitter), jp_2022 (Insta) 🎉
Below you will find a) a brief review b) donation info c) links to some other apps used, as well as the AppStore link and description. * I also want to mention that my 3rd gen iPad Pro is now working again. I just loaded 4 instances of Pure Upright in AUM on it, played by Polyphase, and the DSP was hitting only around 30%. Difference between 2nd and 3rd gen iPad Pro is pretty incredible. Also, I think that it was a mistake to upgrade the 2nd gen iPad to iOS 15 - that seems to have slowed it down.
❇️ I like Pure Upright. It has a lovely brightness to the sound that, apart from having its own lovely character, would cut nicely through a mix. It also has the same excellent tweakable morph pad feature as their Pure Piano app, with a few small differences here and there among the presets (eg. a gated preset here whereas Pure Piano has a percussive preset). The control of velocity response within the app is a truly excellent feature, and the reverb is top notch. That said, it is over a GB in size and pretty resource-heavy, so older iPads will definitely be limited in how many instances can be used. As mentioned in this video, I unfortunately had to use my older 2nd gen iPad Pro for this vid (I usually use 3rd gen) and it definitely struggled. Do also bear in mind though that my mic-chain here has some resource-hogging apps.
❇️ If you feel like helping out financially, consider maybe watching some ads for at least 30 seconds (generally the main way creators get paid for viewers watching ads), or even better, making a PayPal contribution from time to time.
Donations, whether small or large, are very greatly appreciated . A lot of time and work goes into this channel and it pays a tiny amount. Over the past month, for example, I put out around 20 videos and my monthly paycheck from RUclips is hovering at around $80 currently. 😂🙏

    Description:
An upright piano sits perfectly in pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, and many more modern music genres. That’s why it’s heard in countless iconic tracks throughout musical history with the upright at the heart of the song. You don’t always need the splendor of a grand piano but the character and immediacy of an upright piano. Pure Upright captures the uniquely recognizable sound of the upright piano and makes it as wonderfully playable as our acclaimed Pure Piano for iOS.
Similar to an XY pad in its flat, tactile nature, the Morph Pad offers up nine different core upright piano timbres, including Vintage, Intimate, Reverse, Gated, and Pad, to name a few. The “pure” Upright sits untouched at the heart and center of the space, surrounded by eight more presets for you to explore as you guide your finger seamlessly through the wide-ranging tonal palette of the piano. As you do so, the various timbres blend together, allowing you to create your own sounds comprising combinations of neighboring presets for you to save and recall.
Pure Upright works as a standalone app or as an AUv3 plug-in within your DAW of choice, and extensive connectivity options allow you to easily connect to your keyboard controller via USB, direct, or Bluetooth MIDI to experience the sound of a professional grand piano through your headphones or speakers. The app also supports a direct connection to your Mac using Inter Device Audio (IDAM). This enables you to easily integrate Pure Upright into your desktop projects by sending MIDI and receiving audio with one single cable, as well as network MIDI and Inter-App Audio for triggering the piano from other apps that you might have installed.
Equipped with customizable reverb, EQ, and delay, sound creation becomes even more creative. Simply unlink any of the audio effects from the Morph Pad to dial in your own settings. Maybe you want to add a long reverb tail to add some extra atmosphere, tweak the EQ a little or add some delay to a particular sound. It’s up to you.
If all that isn’t enough, now you can adjust the pedal and key noise to taste, and there’s a host of flexible tuning options for when you need them. The stretched piano tuning is how a piano technician would tune the piano. The equal temperament tuning, on the other hand, is best for when layering Pure Upright with sounds like electric pianos, pads, or strings. Also provided is the ability to transpose the piano which comes in very useful if you are working with a vocalist who wants to sing in a different key!
For the best experience with Pure Upright, we highly recommend using a controller keyboard to trigger the notes so that it feels like you’re playing a real upright piano. The on-board velocity response page allows you to match the dynamic response of Pure Upright to your keyboard controller and your playing style so that you can achieve the right velocity response for you and the song you’re playing.
Pure Upright is designed and developed by Hamburg-based e-instruments, renowned for their high-end digital recreations of acoustic instruments.
    Feature Overview:

Having played piano for over 60 years, I’m very particular about its sound and amazed how it fits in so well with several different genres. In that respect, Pure Upright Piano doesn’t disappoint. Not only is it one of the best sounding piano apps, it adds a unique dimension with its effects and morphing capability that really stands out.
However, not to get lost in the shuffle, demo videos also play a very important part in selling an app. I heard a couple of others, but Gavinsky’s video was the one that beautifully captured what Pure Upright Piano can do. The music used was excellent and the contrast in styles really put it over the top. Thank you so much for making this demo available!

I wish someone would make a auv3 host that worked like the morph pad principle does. I realize there are apps to manually layer instruments (MK Sensation). It reminds me of alchemy synth in the way it works, and it was a sad day when that got locked inside of garage band. I’ve hoped garage band would make its modules work as auv3 forever (looking at you too Korg). It would be nuts to blend between like a bass, pluck, and keys or something. Also it would be cool to be able to change the size of the blend zones in some way. I find it’s a little tricky to blend more than a couple sounds on pure piano without losing a bit of the third.

    • @GavinskisTutorials
      @GavinskisTutorials  2 года назад +1

I love that idea for changing the size of blend zones. The other idea for a daw is also interesting. I guess the closest you could come is several XY pads controlling fader volumes

Cheers Roy, yeah seems most people are preferring this. It has a lot of personality. I enjoyed that progression too. Progressions is pretty outstanding, I did generate the chords randomly but then choose my faves and fit them together. What that thing brings to the table just from the generate pad is phenomenal though. Amazing job from Paul and David there. Of course, it makes me wish I could actually play jazz keyboard and improvise! At least the humanise functions and little tricks with midiGATEs etc manage to help it avoid being tooo robotic.

Pure piano is temperamental, an overall bug fix is sorely needed. I use the latest version of iPad and the problem is the same as you show here. I certainly wouldn’t pay again for what is essentially simply another piano type. Let’s hope they bug fix their first product before launching too many other paid versions of the same app with a different sampled instrument

@@GavinskisTutorials oh apologies, it was the fact that the app sometime simply refuses to work in AUM. It freezes and you can’t move the central cursor to any other part of the app. This happened also in your video. I have a lot of apps and it’s the one that consistently (happens every day I use it at some point) has this bug of not playing if attached to a midi app. You then need to reboot everything and load another piano app to ensure it all works again, then hopefully reload pure piano and it now consents to work. Sometimes it will sometimes it won’t. There are very few £25 apps that fail in this regard.
