more power too, my mt07 is clunky but i tell you i love it. But its a type of love where you have to make compromises. Where the honda is going to be a smoother ride but i cant say for sure
I have tried both when i am working on my licence and i prefer the mt-07 any time the weight destribution of the MT feels better easier to ride and also alot easier to turn around on and the sound is also better.
The mt07 is definitely the better bike to learn on but only for its lighter weight and tighter turning circle but the Honda is just a better bike overall, if you only ride inner city then the mt07 is perfect but the Honda is still better, less gear changes and if you know how to lean a bike it's just as good in traffic and the suspension is way ahead of the mt07 and it's noticeably faster, sound is subjective and different sounds can be had with the choice of exhaust you choose, styling is subjective too but when sat next to each other the mt07 really looks cheap regardless if you prefer the mt07 the Honda outshines it with its premium build quality, you will learn more on the CB/CBR because it corners a hell of a lot better than the MT, the mt09 is a brave choice for a first bike but a sensible person could be fine.
Myself going for bike probably next year and aiming on Honda cb650r 2023 model and i been leaning hard on mt-07 but I'm middle age man "almost" so i want a bike i can keep after license and just enjoy the bike and i find mt07 may and may not be for to long after license it has a nice push in low speed up till 140 then it's start to slow plus i heard the suppension is kinda bad and it has some "known faults" while Honda in those areas are up to quality. Mt-07 has far better sound like a offroad/Harley sound and i had sportster 883 when i was younger so that sound is in my heart haha.. so cb650 is not the most perfect sound for my ears but it sounds decent with aftermarket compare to other bikes that i looked at. But cb650r just look premium and are premium in many sections. Plus what i know the 2023 model does 0-100 in 3,1-3,4 seconds depends on rider which is good enough for me and has a decent top km/h. Both MT serie and CBR serie look good it's all about those minor details and long run details that concern for me. Both have good prices too for what you get. 👍🏻
The only 2 cylinder I'll ever buy again is a Superhawk. That bike had character and got attention everywhere I went. I put 30000 miles on it before I sold it.
as a +5 years owner of a MT07, my bigger complains are the awfully rough shifting in lower gears (I tried several oil brands with little improvement) and the cheapo suspensions. Other than that, is a sweet bike for under 8k€.

If the next MT 07 doesn’t have inverted forks I’ll jump off a bridge. Put an extra $300 on the tag and make everyone happy. It’s not like they can’t use parts from other MTs, just do it. And clean up some of the cheap plastic stuff, it’s so close to being a nicer bike but they’re cutting some corners for sure to keep at as cheap as possible.
These two motorcycles shouldn't even be in the same sentence. They're very different and attract very different buyers. Both of these motorcycles are absolutely very cool machines, but these motorcycles have zero relation to each other. Stop comparing them together. The CB650R is clearly in its own league and has zero competition so stop comparing it to anything else.
