With upside-down fork, throttle-by-wire, and radial calipers, it's definitely ahead of the Z650 now. But without a capacity increase, it can't really go toe to toe with the CB750 Hornet or GSX 8S. Yeah, Yamaha's got the MT09 with more power, but unfortunately, it's just not in the same price range as Hornet and GSX-8S. What are your thoughts?
Well I guess, none of them have that hooligan character MTs had (at least they had since 2024). They felt more like the use of these bikes was to have fun. So I guess It's up to you and what you are looking for. I currently can't see naked bikes in any other way, since there are sport tourings for touring and street bikes for speed. As a character , I feel naked bikes are the evolution of the old school street motards. At least in my eyes this is the way they should ve followed (e.g. I am talking about something like duke 690 2008-2011 style) When I am talking about naked bikes, first thing comes to my mind is torque, wheelies, fun to ride. So this was the reason I wasn't comparing the bikes you mentioned with the MT series. BUT as I see now, Yamaha's approach is closer to these bikes year after year. I mean we reached at a point where MT07 is looking very similar to a CB750.
Nice video and very informative also but the only thing i don't see anywhere is an update on tracer 7 , I didn't see it also in EICMA , I hope they do also a refresh in this
Oh man, Yamaha really needs to step up with the MT-07 and R7 if they want to compete with the RS660 and Tuono660. That 689cc engine HAS to produce more horsepower in 2024. I know HP isn't everything, but it’s hard to see why anyone would pick Yamaha over Aprilia’s lineup right now.
Yeah, now the MT-07 really holds its own against the competition in almost every way. It’s a shame they didn’t bump up the displacement, though it could have made it even more competitive
@@SecondGearYT I don't think extra cc is needed here. They have to squeeze more horsepower out of that same 689cc engine. I mean, come on Yamaha, you’ve got some of the best mechanical engineers in the industry, so let’s see them in action! Right now, I just can’t find a good reason to pick this over the Aprilia Tuono-660. The same goes for its "sporty" sibling, the R7. It’s a shame to see a naked engine paired with a super-sport riding position and fairing.
About R7 it's really sad , they killed R6 so they will produce this. R7 feels more like an entry bike to street bikes. About the naked fight Mt vs Tuono Besides the looks. Which is personal preferance. It looks more like a street to me with a wrong positioned handlebar Tuono's price is closer to MT09. In Greece MT07 is 8.100€ Tuono 660 is at 10.400€ MT09 at 10.950€ Which makes it even more expensive than the KTM Duke 790 which is at 9.800€ So can't see any competition by Aprilia. I barely see any of them on the street. While MT07 is sold out every year. In order for me to compare 2 bikes they must be close on the price. This is the first thing I compare otherwise what's the point? Of course a ~700cc bike that costs 10.400€ would have better specs than a ~700cc that costs 8.000€. We are talking about more than 25% difference in the price. So what's the real comparement here? I think the real question is , would you go for a Tuono 660 or an MT09? You can find MT07 even at 7.700€ at Grey colour which isn't sold out yet. Pretty huge diff on the price. *not a Yamaha fanboy, recently I was in the research of what to buy and ended up there. At the end of the day, It's not about the specs on papers. Go for whatever you like the most. MT is a very playfull bike, you can't find this character somewhere else. Maybe in a Duke but again, for a higher price
@@Nikos_G. Well said. BUT, that's still a shame that they can't shave up a little more horses for the same amount of engine capacity. Glad you agree with me about the R7 though.
t’s actually a bit more advanced than Honda’s e-clutch, which still needs a pedal to shift gear. but in terms of power, the CB is still the clear winner.
Naked and sportbike platforms have better handling, more lean angle, and deliver a whole different level of performance compared to scooters. But honestly, it often just comes down to style over practicality.
I understand your frustration. But do you really have to ask when manufacturers can just take a motor out of a naked bike and slap it into a race chasis without any R&D into upgrading performance and people will love them for it? Times are changing. The golden era is long gone and you can't argue with these guys. Internet trolls know everything..
imagine a disabled person wanting to ride an MT07, without having to custom parts to make them be able to shift through gears, also why not? it's not like yamaha is removing the clutch and gear lever entirely
@@ryndrssn Are you saying the MT-07 is trying fill the niche for disabled people? I don't really understand. It just seems like they're trying to make a really easy bike to ride unlike most sporty bikes. To me it seems like that's what the demand is for. Looking good, sounding fast and electronics. It certainly isn't about mindblowing performance. Otherwise we had all of this available 30+ yrs ago.
Glad I bought a 23,hopefully the new suspension will fit it,slipper clutch already does, the rest is really unwanted tech but it’s obviously being marketed to girls, surprised it doesn’t have 40 cupholders and a makeup mirror

2:33 DISGUSTING 🤮🤮🤮 The crisp, precise cable throttle was one of THE biggest selling points of the MT-07. Now that it's gone one may as well bug a 750 Hornet instead. Disappointing indeed 😒
Why would you put up with the engine induction roar in your face?! That can't be fun and in fact it's just an annoyance and plain stupid. I purposely ride with earplugs to lessen the decibels. Noise coming out the exhaust is different, it warns cagers that there is a motorcycle in the vicinity and the rider doesn't hear it because the noise is behind. But noise in your FACE?!.. come on..how dumb is that!
