The best part about this shifter I've seen, is that you can modify the shit out of it and make it good
what do you mean
You cant make it good
@@woooshbait2102 you can make it better than it is normally. For people that don't have the money to buy a th8a, or fanatec shifter, you can modify this shifter with rubber bands, 3D printed improvements mods that make it a stiffer shifter, sequential mods that act the exact same as a th8a sequential and many, many more. For a cheap shifter, you can have fun with it and if it breaks, oh well. They're like $60. Although I do suggest getting the TH8A if you have more
Yeah, there's a lot of mods for it, 3d printed or not, adapter from H pattern to sequential, knob adapter, actual gate etc, for 60 bucks it's... Okay, but if you ca' get it on sale, it's more than serviceable. I got mine for 40 bucks and it's holding up quite well (although moded)
@@mmmm69420 ye I modified it with a 18 speed semi truck shifter with a Jake brake
Supposedly, the mechanism, that changed from H-pattern to sequential modes was one of the first things, that broke, so that's why they dropped it in G27 shifter. And since G29 had all of the buttons on the wheel (G27 had just 6 buttons and G25 just 2), they didn't need the buttons on the shifter anymore
yeah, but it would be awesome if you had the buttons on the wheel + on the shifter. Especially when drifting if you need a button for the e-brake it's basically impossible to press. But everyone has their preferences

I would be surprised if it really was lol. What car was it?
yeah what car was it devin
It was a simple Kia Soul, it’s probably different in sports cars
Yup it is.
@@OCRacing Is it worth buying or taking the pxn v900
Most of these things are due to price, I don't see how going in reverse is that difficult for you, but I've got a car that uses the same mechanism so I guess I'm used to it. The shifts are WAY better short, you don't want to be shifting with a long throw in a sports car it makes shifting really slow compared to the shorter throw and is actually harder for me to miss gears when using short throw shifters. The thrustmaster shifter is about the same throw, but the leaver is longer and the shifter is gated.. and it costs twice as much..
I agree with what you said. I think the biggest problem with this shifter is simply how little force is actually required to switch gears. Totally aware that this is due to its low price and in all honestly, I don't know of any other H-pattern shifters in the market at this price point. This shifter isn't bad considering the price, I wouldn't say its necessarily good either. Its kind of just decent for the price. The title of this video makes it seem like this is a terrible product, I recognize that, but this is RUclips and views are views lol.
@@OCRacing Do you really prefer ruining your credibility for youtube views? Doesn't misleading people ruin it for you? I'm not trying to be mean I'm genuinely trying to help
@@OCRacing This is the sort of shifter for noobs getting into sim racing or for hooning around on FH4. It's cheap, mounts fairly sturdy to a table and does the job asked of it. For someone with an xbox and a couple of racing games it's fine, when you're getting to fanatec wheels/pedals and hydraulic handbrakes ect then of course you'll want a better shifter. The fact you can buy the g923 wheel/pedals and for an extra $60 this is, like i say, great for noobs.

the reverse on my G27 shifter stopped recognizing reverse entirely, now it's been repurposed as a handbrake
I totally understand what you mean about the reverse and 6th. When I'm not in a rush I can easily get reverse. When in a race and need reverse quickly, you don't realise how much force and travel it takes to push down to get reverse
I think this shifter is the best starting point for anyone that wants to get into sim racing. Is it mediocre? Yes. Cheap? Absolutely. But for a beginner, it can't be beat. The best part is that you can usually find these in the used market for even less money.
I personally think it’s a good shifter for people who are just getting into sim racing
Same
All of these things can be fixed/modded. Just one example, get a custom shift knob for it, their cheap and come in a lot of sizes and shapes, that will fix the crappy plastic top and the feel of the shifts feeling too close
How do you remove the like gummy around it then?( if you want a knob)
I feel like this was a vent about the Logitech shifter that you hate but can't stand to pay for a more expensive one
That what I’m SAYING
The problem with shifting into reverse may just be your unit.... I've played with the G27 and G29 shifters, and in both of the units that I played with went into reverse completely fine. I actually modded my G27 shifter by adding some velcro to the inside where the shift mechinism is that result in better feel when you shift and reduced noise of the stick hitting the walls on the inside.
That reverse issue you talked about, I had the exact same issue. Pissed me off so much I bought a new one thinking mine was broken. So far I'm surprisingly not having the same issue on the new shifter. Glad I wasn't the only one having that issue
The problem with reverse is actually well known, it seems it occurs in all versions. This is caused by micro-cracks on the circuits of that small board with two wires and a switch, which can be found at the very bottom inside of the shifter. The reason it don't react sometimes is after some number of pressing the lever down to use the reverse, it presses that button on that tiny board, and clearly it's not sturdy enough and eventually connections on that board are sometimes split/broken (there's two of these lines, leading from one of the wires to the switch and then back to the second wire.) To fix that you need to re-make these two circuits, ie. by soldering some wire instead, which will be much more sure working in such stressful conditions.
So: open the shifter, carefully remove the main shift mechanism and locate that little board somewhere under it. (it's good to hold the mechanism, to not have to waste time reassembling some parts of it when you let it split to parts.. try to find someone to hold it for that time or maybe use some clamp, like these for woodworkers) Then fix these mentioned connections on that board (don't waste your time examining how they look and trying to find the break on them. You'll probably won't, such are too small to recognize them easily, just solder wires to connect the points which are originally connected with these lines, then put it back, assemble with the mechanism and that should be it.
Wolo.. please make a video and link it here. believe me it will be watched!
this is very very interesting.
it was happened to me yesterday 😂
so i just curious and disassemble the shifter and wiggle some cable and mechanism things.
voila. its working again 🤣

@@andrievbastichy8551 So, I said last time, I can't record a video of that anymore, because I don't have that shifter. I made a rig upgrade level up and moved to T300 last year. I like the Shifter. It’s Basically like a Short Throw.
Yes, everything you mention is also what happens on my shifter too. To conclude: The shifter is and feels extremely cheap but it does the job (most of the times)
When I owned a g27 I tried a handful of mods, none of them really made me happy. Aftermarket shift knobs make it much heavier, and then the shifter feels sloppy as you are able to easily overpower the detent bearings (these let you feel a click of resistance between gears). For the price I can't put it down too much, but I see it as a stepping stone for someone new to sim racing that isn't ready to pay $2-300 for a shifter alone
my G27 shifter stopped recognizing reverse entirely, bought a TH8A and repurposed the G27 shifter as a handbrake using a rubber band, have the full Thrustmaster setup now with the exception of the G27 shifter, I don't want to lose those extra buttons and it still works really well as a handbrake, would love to try to make an analog handbrake fit in the casing but don't think it's possible to do so
You can change the knob, make a diy sequential mode, make it more stiff, the reverse you can change it so its the 6th gear.

@@RRareGaming just use the paddle on the wheel or press the knob downwards and put reverse... Since you changed the places but it still works
Can you do neutral braking in sim racing games? Or just downshifting?
You can do both. Depending on the car
I have the reverse problem a ton too, I typically just use the paddles if I can when going down. my plastic tab on the top broke off as well, it popped off and I stood on it when I was getting up to look for it.
Hi could u help I have the shifter but it won’t select any gears it’s like it’s not responding to the games is there any reset buttons thanks
having buttons and a sequential mode would have been really cool for sure. no clue why they thought removing the buttons and stuff was a good idea. I have to agree about the plastic bit on the knob, after a handful of sessions with it, it started moving around and popping up like yours. I got used to the reverse gear, it became easier once i got a frame for my rig and wasnt afraid to push on stuff. and yeah it is pretty toy-like. i like how easy it is to push into gear (i practically just slap the thing forward to go 4th-3rd). but yeah, having a nice clunk feeling would complete it. But the price tho! considering a thrustmaster shifter is like $170 and all you get extra is sequential mode and a 7th gear (dont know if it feels any better, I would hope but i havent tried it), logitech prob doesnt see a reason to make the shifter better or cheaper. good to know other people have some of the same gripes as I do.
Is it worth buying or taking the pxn v900
@@AhmedSaleh-ii6ng Dont buy pxn v900 or v9 its a piece of **** it has no force feedback and for 100 and 230 its not worth it Buy something like t150 pro or g29/g920
the buttons are on the wheel now when they weren't on the g25 or g27, but it makes it even more baffling how this isn't included since it was on on oder wheels
I completely agree with you. The feel is so discouraging. I literally drive a manual in real life and the feel between gears make me go to neutral every time I play GT6. I finally upgraded to the Fanatec GT DD Pro with load cell pedal and Fanatec 7 speed shifter in preparation for GT7. I hate this shifter with a passion.
Does anyone know how to fix the 5th and 6th gear not working I just bought it and when I shift to 5 it thinks I’m in 3rd and when I shift to 6 it thinks I’m in 4th
Can I ask something,I bought the same shifter but I have a question till it comes ..I play a game and some cars have more than 6 speeds..what we do with this?the shifter is useless and we change speeds by the driving wheel puddles?
My rx8 has the exact shifter layout having 6 speeds and having to push the shifter down, right and back for reverse lol
I’ve heard it’s not too uncommon.
I want to try this shift and wheel so I can learn better with driving cars and then I won't be nervous while taking car exams
Just take driving lessons man, driving a real car is a lot different from games. Or practice in a real car, you get the hang of it pretty quick
So i found this shifter super cheap then I got a random adaptor that converts it into an usb. The problem is that when I'm trying to set it up in content manager nothing happens but the shifter is being read as an USB-to-serial Comm-Port in windows. Any ideas? Thanks.
hey how did you use the shifter on a thrustmaster wheel cause i got a t248 an i want to use this shifter but dont know where to get a legit cable to use as usb
So i literally just bought a G29 with the shifter as my first ever wheel.
Ive never used any sim wheels aside from logitech ones before, so idk about those, but I *HAVE* owned driven plenty of real manual cars, so im comparing it mainly to my real car outside.
It feels... good enough. Yes, the reverse gear was the first thing I noticed. It hates going into reverse, also the shifter feels too light for what im used to.
Yeah the gears are very close together, but I havent had any problems with miss shifts so far, only once or twice.
Otherwise for me, it feels satisfying and realistic enough for my needs at least.
I totally agree. Especially with point #2, me being a rallying snob, and currently learning pace notes fully, it is INCREDIBLY annoying when I just rev my engine and don't go anywhere. (ps, I would definitely recommend getting an aftermarket shifter knob) (oh and double ps, preferably get a shorter shifter knob, because the shorter, the more force it takes to get it into gear. And that's definitely a plus with this shifter).
Oh and, try taking off the leather wrap around the stick, It's way more... well just nicer in general.

@@user-nw5oc8pl5m Yes, to my knowledge, Removing it will not impact its functionality, although dirt can enter it more easily, reducing its service life.
Just curious as I'm planning to buy one soon. So my question is does it work with the clutch pedal? Like must i step the clutch pedal before changing the gear or i can just change the gear without stepping the clutch pedal. Hope someone answer my worries

@@gabrocki As long as you’re in PC then any shifter will work with any wheel because all shifters ( except for the Logitech ) can be used as an usb device ( you can buy an adapter for the Logitech shifter to use as an standalone device ). It’s also possible in console through the use of a device called DriveHub which is a bit expensive
Personal experience, first time i tried it, i was impressed how poor the materials are. You have to be really careful while changing gears to not break the shifter due to its short gear design. It feels like im shifting a toy car.

I bought my g920 just over a year ago for £200 brand new with the shifter included. I bought an adapter and a deep dish wheel from ebay for £20 and it was probably the best thing I've ever bought.
And as for my shifter, I've never had any issues with it so far in terms of shifting or getting into reverse. I'm really surprised that it hasn't broken yet considering I absolutely abuse it on a daily basis.

You know what makes this shifter worlds better? A new shifter knob, i 3d printed a stick one for mine so it’s taller and it fixed all 5 of these errors, shifting feels great
I honestly like the short-throw shifter feel
Fun Fact the shifter wasn’t downgraded it was just changed because the past wheels had no other buttons or Dpad but I do agree on this beacuse there is no more option to make it a up and down shifter and a H pattern shifter.
I still wish it had some extra programmable buttons but it’s most likely due to it being marketed for consoles aswell. Where tf did sequential go though
2:20 what I did was sanding the paint of that part and then I painted the lines in black, so it remains with a white finish that seems more realistic and less plastic

You can get it as a bundle in the UK at least
In Germany too
In Malaysia too
In the U.S you can just uhh. buy them both in the same store

Number 2 I

you dont need any buttons on the shifter since the newer wheels have a lot of buttons already, and i know its an older design, but it looks a lot more tacky with all those buttons.
He said it feels like a toy🤦♀️ it is a toy also it’s 60 bucks so it’s not gonna be perfect
The TH8A, and fanatec shifter is also a “toy” and feels way better. I own a TH8A myself and it feels real.
Well its supossed to feel real but it is 50 dollars. I dont like the plastic but you can fix it
3:00 i had pretty much the same problem, just turn the shifter 180 degrees and remap the buttons. its so much easier if reverse is under 1st gear
You can go to a local car shop and buy a new shift nob to attach instead of ball making it more comfortable and realistic. Also adding an ascetically pleasing effect to the setup.
I mean it's a shifter. That's it, there is no reason to have the same amount of buttons on it as a nuclear power plant control room
Exactly
i still own a g25 and not a g29 or 920. can you use old shifter on newer wheels though? i like having an ebrake button without having to go out of my way to do mods, and have a custom rig just for racing games that take lots of money and space.
Hey bro i have a trustmaster tmx and i was wondering if i can use the g29 shifter on it
hi OC, how did you get the shifter to work with a thrustmaster wheel? i have a wheel from thrustmaster, but dont have enough money to buy their own shifter.
Watch this: ruclips.net/video/dLpWEu8kCec/видео.html
Mine is janky constantly, I’ll be in the place of 2nd, but it shows I’m in 4th, then I’ll push up the shifter and back down into the same spot, and I’m back in 2nd
I have a question, does the shifter work with the Thrustmaster t248?
Kinda glad I still have the g25 shifter with all the buttons and siquentual shift switch
I have the same reverse problem. But u just haved to get used to it and feel we’re it slides into gear
i have a problem where it puts me in 5th gear when its very clearly been shifted into 3rd so yeah, i can see the reverse gear going into 6th happening
I'm watching this deciding if I want to buy a wheel in a bundle with a shifter. and you convinced me to wait on the shifter
also nice to see that you're also playing WRC
Mine feels good and isn’t clunky. But if i switch down from 3rd to 2nd if i slightly catch the gear housing as it goes into 2nd i will end up in 4th. And it takes like 4 tries to get into reverse for me now.
I just bought one, and one of the two knobs that you spin them to secure the shifter, does not stay down when i press it down. Is this normal?
I have the same problem
If it still clamps on and works well, It should still work fine. I don't think its normal but its also not uncommon from what I have heard. If it works and you are having no issue, then I wouldn't worry. If its causing the shifter to not stay in place, I would return it.
bro u have to push it down and turn it towards the right
Mostly agree is there any difference between the older generations and the last in terms of build quality, shift feel or faultiness? I'm happy it's available separately because I bought it dirt cheap used and use it with a T500RS wheel and with a DFGT before. They are available as a bundle with a wheel or was before. Not sure if TM sells the TH8A together with any wheel. I had an issue when some gears were recognised as different 2 instead of 4 etc... I've alligned it with a screw on the stick and it was fine but I've messed up my reverse completely and it's such a pain to disassemble and put together so I rather use the paddle shifter to engage reverse. For the shifting feel I've used a ghetto solution rubber bands made it feel nicer and I've used a sparco metal gear knob which is longer so the throws are longer and I like it better now, almost good but I almost could get a used TH8A for the price of everything. So it's not that bad now and I'm happy there is a cheap H shifter available.
sadly mine broke after like 5-6 months of use, i tried re-installing the drivers and gHUB, throwing contact cleaner at the db9 connector cleaning the inside connections, none of it worked. im waiting to get the thrustmaster shifter its way higher quality
I felt number 5, when I got the wheel I also got the shifter. The Wheel was next day prime delivered whereas the shifter was out of stock. It ended up taking like a whole half a month just to get the shifter by time I got it I forgot that I bought the thing.
Long time ago I did have g27 but I sell it. Now after couple years I'm looking for g29 because of the look of it and you have more buttons on it. And I'm freaking curious can you plug the G25/G27 shifter in to G29 and will it work?

I have a question and you guys can help me answer it as well can you use a Logitech shifter on a thurstmaster tmx forcefeedback

Okay wait so can you use this shifter without the Logitech wheel using a usb adapter?
I have a G25 (still). Thinking of getting a 29/920. will the 25 shifter work with the newer model?
Bro I'm in the same bus as you, I want to upgrade since Logitech no longer supports the G25 wheel so you cant use the profiler. What I have seen is that I think you can use the G25 shifter with the newer wheels. (that or the G27)
as someone getting into simulators, the worst part about the shifter is the connector. I got my shifter as a impulse purchase when it was on a special and I had no idea that I would need to pay so much more for an adaptor or even a new wheel
