Oh my God, did she just say "I wanted the characters to have flaws"? She wants them to seem like genuine people, and not some 2d superficial personoid that has no flaws or struggles whatsoever? When someone writes in characters with that mindset, you're bound to create something wonderful, and your stories will at least have fleshed out characters even if the plot is "cliche". I applaud her, and thank her for keeping, at the very least, an integral part of storytelling alive.

@@higaiwokeru ah, that's one example I feel would fit that description, yes. I simply see storytelling on the decline in multiple works today, the character aspect specifically. If it were something where the characters didn't matter, like a slasher, that's one thing... however I've observed what should have been character-focused stories delegate their attention to making characters flawless, and removing all genuine emotion or talent from them in the process. This hurts storytelling, I feel, it's the difference between shoddy ice cream made out of incredibly cheap ingredients and better quality ice cream. You can enjoy both, sure, but if you truly pay attention the rich flavor of one makes the other pale in comparison. This can be said for modern storytelling, and the cheaper stuff keeps coming out more than the rich stuff in my opinion.

As an Arkansa native, I was immediately horrified that the movie would make us all look like idiots. But it had a decent diversity of characters, and I don’t feel like it reflected too negatively on Arkansas. It’s actually nice to have something set in Arkansas for once, especially something not set in a rural area, but in a modern area.
Never knew Regina was actually British, she made the Southern accent so authentic.

This is such a great lesson for directors. Making a minority character really great at everything or instantly liked by all the other characters doesn't make them badass, it just makes them boring and unrealistic.

I'm so glad I stumbled onto this series. Doing it so late means I have so many prior videos to watch (I actually only started watching in November 2021) and it's also introducing me to a tonne of new movies I may have otherwise missed. Horror is a kind of underrated genre. It's more than just slasher films as proven by this series. A lot of the biggest directors got their start in horror because you can do a lot with a little. Jon Watts, James Cameron and Peter Jackson just to name a few.
Just came from my own shift at the hospital as a trainee nurse.
Time to watch this now, I guess.
