To me this is the most tragic Evil Dead by far. "Don't let it take my babies." But she only saves one, and even then plot armor is the only reason Cassie lives. That's what's so incredible about Rise, making it a family instead of a friend group just makes each loss so much more impactful.

I'm perfectly happy with the idea that it doesn't need to always be in a cabin, or always with the same characters. Just like Lemarchand's Box in a Hellraiser movie, all you need is the book to work. The setting can be any place or time.
The shot of just Ellie persuading her daughter to open the door for her is just downright terrifying. And that DREADFUL smile and the deceptively innocent "Open up :))" was the GOURMET CHERRY ON TOP! What a haunting and incredibly performance!
hearing Bruce Campbell in the audio recording screaming about the caution of the book is chilling. Imagining what an older ash could be doing in that time and even interacting with the Catholic church is awesome. That little cameo is enough to provide a fan with more history and fun. The fact that it specifically relates back to Army of Darkness is pretty cool as well. It tells us that ash time traveled again at some point. Which is more than likely after the ending of the TV series. We could assume that he enjoyed the wasteland, before getting lonely or maybe accidentally fucking with a book again. Leading him to be teleported through time or maybe specifically to the date of that recording. Where he has another adventure and possibly restores humanity back to what it was. Knowing the ending of the TV series is pretty bleak and underwhelming. On the film itself, i feel like it is a perfect addition to franchise. It feels more in line with the 2013 film, but taking heavy inspiration from Evil Dead 2. As it incorporates more campiness like the sequels. I love this movie so much. This whole franchise is great, but this film takes it to another level. Alyssa Sutherland absolutely nailed her Deadite performance, and finding she chose to base it on how Jim Carrey played The Mask made it even better. She certainly captures the same energy.
The elevator scene, despite all the other horrific things that happen, is what stuck with me. Ellie's possession is terrifying, especially the final pose that the elevator cables force her into.

Yeah I mean, seeing a pile of your beloved family's corpses all in one flesh blob taunting you and tormenting you is a concept that easily could have been made more terrifying
Lucy said what we were all thinking about pet deaths in horror movies. When the kitty showed up, I was so scared for it. So glad that this isn't one of those horror movies. Looking at you, Smile!

I love that this movie continued the 2013 requel's theme of the deadites representing something deeper to the protagonist. For Mia, it was her struggle for sobriety from drug addiction. For Beth, it was fear of motherhood. Each of their final bosses embodied those fears: Mia's was an evil version of herself and Beth's was "the worst version of family imaginable." In the end, they both realize that they cannot run or hide, but have to directly confront and conquer their personal demons.

It's so refreshing to watch an Evil Dead movie with thematic depth. Ellie's family gets tragically torn apart. Meanwhile, Beth is starting her own family. The final showdown is a pregnant Beth versus a deadite Ellie who is carrying her deadite children in her body - as if the kids had returned to the mother's womb. This movie sucked. So a mysterious earthquake just happens out of nowhere and then cracks the floor??? Like come on. No one outside the apartment seems worried and then a kid just thinks it's a great idea to travel down to the floor... It's terrible writing. Makes no logical sense. Terrible plot.
@@coldbeing5420 ikr? like how can anyone take this as a serious horror movie. I was laughing my ass off the whole duration, actually fully enjoyed it as comedy horror cause it wasn't making sense most of the time

The Evil Dead franchise has yet to miss. The whole franchise has been top tier, and it's crazy given its humble beginnings, but as long as Sam and Bruce are involved as producers, I think we're in good hands for the future of the franchise.
Tbh I really did not like rise theres a lot of plot holes and it just didn’t feel like evil dead and wasn’t very thrilling and fun imo and some things just didn’t go anywhere wasn’t terrible but not great I thought but I’m very bias because Bruce Campbell and ash was what elevated these movies for me
Gotta say, love the addition to the intro line because seeing the behind the scenes stuff has to be one of my favorite parts of the kill counts. Keep killin it dead meat folks!
I love this flick. The fact that it takes place is an apartment complex, which is something i have a reoccurring nightmare about, makes it thats much more creepy
i saw this twice in cinema and i just loved it. i found it to be one of the saddest horror movies ive watched due to the brilliant family bonding moments throughout. Ellie deserved so much better i cant help but feel awful for what happened to her. I dont often feel too attached or heartbroken for horror characters but this one got me
One detail I absolutely love is that all three Deadite designs are present here. Danny becomes one that looks closer to the original design, Bridgett becomes one that looks like the 2013 one, and of course, there's Ellie's design.
Honestly I had a blast watching this movie opening night! And that “titty sucking parasites” line got an auditable laugh from the audience including myself 😂 Awesome work covering this James!!
Fun fact: Alyssa Sutherland said that the “titty sucking parasites” line was her favorite line she said in the film. How do I know? The question was asked at a horror convention panel in Indiana!
Every time I go back to this movie I'm floored with how good the performances are. I think Alyssa Sutherland is one of my favorite horror movie actors alongside like, Robert Englund as Freddy and Matthew Lillard as Stu/William Afton
I just want to say thank you James and your whole crew y’all have provided me a lot of entertainment for the past 5 years and shown me all kinds of new horror movies I haven’t seen so from the bottom of my 21 almost 22 year old heart thank you
I really like this direction the Evil Dead series is taking. After Bruce retired his role as Ash, each movie following a new group of shmucks can really give perspective on how widespread the Deadite's power has extended like the show was doing.
Yes! Honestly my favourite film of last year. Everything I could ask for in an Evil Dead film: plenty of creepy scenes, buckets of blood, a cast completely dedicated to the type of film they're making, a nice dose of dark humour, and an absolutely batshit crazy act 3. In my opinion, that's 5 for 5 good films in the Evil Dead franchise (plus one really good show).
This was one of my favourite cinema going experiences of last year. The sound design in 5.1 surround sound and seeing what happens in the film made me squirm in my seat and I loved it
I went to the movies and their was only 2 other people watching with me. It was great gave it a scarier vibe specifically when I would hear something behind me
An interesting point is that the Deadites have the various eye colours from the previous Evil Dead films. You can see it on the marauder. Some parts have white eyes and some have orange eyes.
I'm glad this went to theatres cuz it was great to see it on the big screen. One of the best theatre experiences last year even tho there was a ton of great stuff.
Yeah, honestly to me, this is the most tragic in the entire franchise since this is a family witnessing going through this crap... Evil Dead really takes no prisoners...
I like how the movie has a loop at the start we see Jessica possessed by a Kandarian demon and at the end the movie we see her and how she got possessed!
The 2013 movie showed that it is possible to un-possess people, so kills shouldn't count until their body/the deadite is killed, or at least receives a fatal blow for a human.
The “to the numbers” made me literally LOL. One of my favorite things about the kill counts are you always add in props & references throughout the video 😂😂
9:47 how can it be ash in another time? didn't he already return to the future? or are there multiple ashs spread throughout time? are there multiple universes?

Seems way more believable than the plot that happened in this movie. Like no one else in the apartment on the different floors were worried? No desk clerks? Like come on. Make it make sense. The scariest movies are the ones that are more believable
The Evil Dead franchise has yet to miss. The whole franchise has been top tier, and it's crazy given its humble beginnings, but as long as Sam and Bruce are involved as producers, I think we're in good hands for the future of the franchise.
❤exactly 💯💯
Yup it’s the best horror franchise imo
Tbh I really did not like rise theres a lot of plot holes and it just didn’t feel like evil dead and wasn’t very thrilling and fun imo and some things just didn’t go anywhere wasn’t terrible but not great I thought but I’m very bias because Bruce Campbell and ash was what elevated these movies for me
Honestly, the only miss could possibly be Army of Darkness.
@@ZacharyResky Nah I love that movie I know a lot of people don’t tho
James saying "Mommy? Sorry. Mommy? Sorry. Mommy? Sorry." wasn't on my 2024 bingo card
What did you have on the bingo card?!
Frrrr😂😂😂
LMAOOO

“Ya know?….If you’re a sick f***” 😂
😂
says the guy who kill counts for a living!😂
10:40 "Looking like mario mid jump, caught me off guard. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Gotta say, love the addition to the intro line because seeing the behind the scenes stuff has to be one of my favorite parts of the kill counts. Keep killin it dead meat folks!
I absolutely love Ellie’s face when she gets stabbed in the shoulder. Just like “seriously?”
Hearing James say "can't be arsed" is hilarious!
Really, it's "can't be asked" . . . coming from "not even my mother could ask me to do it"
"mama's crawling with the maggots now" the possessed mother says
I love this flick. The fact that it takes place is an apartment complex, which is something i have a reoccurring nightmare about, makes it thats much more creepy
Actors who can control their bodies to a level like this is terrifying and amazing at the same time. It definitely makes the deadites so terrifying
5:08
What we were all here for. I've been waiting months for that TITLE CARD, and I was not disappointed.
...and I loved the follow-up at 21:50!
i saw this twice in cinema and i just loved it. i found it to be one of the saddest horror movies ive watched due to the brilliant family bonding moments throughout.
And that “titty sucking parasites” line got an auditable laugh from the audience including myself 😂
Awesome work covering this James!!
Best movie theater experience I've had in yearssss
Fun fact: Alyssa Sutherland said that the “titty sucking parasites” line was her favorite line she said in the film. How do I know? The question was asked at a horror convention panel in Indiana!
I loved that line too tbh, my favorite though is "mommy's with the maggots now". Fucking CHILLS every time!
OMG same
A lot of respect for the entire cast and for giving a great performance, really phenomenal acting, especially Alyssa Sutherland!
I love lucy's little mew at 16:54
Lucy I am so happy to see you
The title card with the deadite floating was such a badass intro
This my favorite horror of last year, best horror franchise
@@Chuck_EL For sure. That demonic choir too 🔥
1:52 Mommy. Sorry. Mommy? Sorry. Mommy? Sorry. lol
Lucy stealing my heart at 16:53 with that meow 😮😮😭❤
That was so precious. I literally said, "AW!" out loud. We love a cameo from Lucy.
This was one of my favourite cinema going experiences of last year. The sound design in 5.1 surround sound and seeing what happens in the film made me squirm in my seat and I loved it
I went to the movies and their was only 2 other people watching with me. It was great gave it a scarier vibe specifically when I would hear something behind me
Amazing theater experience
An interesting point is that the Deadites have the various eye colours from the previous Evil Dead films. You can see it on the marauder. Some parts have white eyes and some have orange eyes.
This was one of my favorite horror movies last year! I love the Evil Dead franchise and this movie did not disappoint!!!
Lucy is a natural on camera! Another great Kill Count, and I really enjoyed the full movie. Awesome stuff!
Lucy's Meow made my night. Thanks Dead Meat ;3
That "To the numbers bit" was amazing! You keep upping the bar. I love this channel
I never thought there would be a Cody Ko reference in a Dead Meat video. Thank you James!
Woah! James got a cameo with the infamous Lucy?! She is jam packed so I’m shocked she did that with him
I love how when the boy finds a book in a room WITH CROSSES HANGING FROM THE CEILING he just decides it’s a good idea to take the book
Curious Caucasian is a very deadly disease
Let’s say that the book has influence to have people take it
Watched this at an overnight movie marathon
Evil dead is one of the few franchises where you can generally enjoy every single film in its own way
I'm glad this went to theatres cuz it was great to see it on the big screen. One of the best theatre experiences last year even tho there was a ton of great stuff.
Agreed my theater was packed when I saw the movie and I could tell everyone there was an evil dead fan
Facts!
After this movie i'll never look to a cheese grater the same way again
I swear this one is my absolute favorite. Great gore, great final girl, excellent body horror, and awesome gags to the older movies.
Rise was the perfect sequel! The impeccable mix of humor & horror along with Sutherland’s phenomenal performance was a pleasant surprise after 2013
Lucy deserves an emmy for that line read, chefs kiss!!! 👏🏾👏🏾🏆
The moment I saw the title card in theaters I NEEDED this kill count
Bruce cambell saying "alledgedly 3 books" makes me intrigued
Lucy's tiny little squeak cured my depression.
10:44 You are evil for that sound effect. PLEASE I CANT BREATH 😂
Funny too that she has a Mario hat in the number graphics
@@axelnilsson5124 OH MY GOD 😭 I didn't even see that
i worked at movie theater when this movie was out, this movie is so loud 😭😭 you could hear it down the hall no matter what
I kept replaying Lucy’s little meow. 🥹💕
The 2013 movie showed that it is possible to un-possess people, so kills shouldn't count until their body/the deadite is killed, or at least receives a fatal blow for a human.
I love it: "Who doesn't want to be covered in blood." Just the best for this young one lol
So glad you guys are finally covering this! Easily my favorite horror movie of last year, and a perfect entry in the Evil Dead franchise
5:13 f**k yeah is right, james.
THAT. IS HOW YOU START A MOVIE RIGHT.
When she started reading the book word for word?? Fucking chills. Such a good start to a movie!
5:08 I 100% agree, that is the world's greatest title card. It resembles a book cover and I love it
I like the "come get some" line as it's a reference to an Ash line and was sampled into a fire ass beat and used in the evil dead games trailer
Alyssa Sutherland was so good in this movie! I also loved her in the TV show called “Vikings” whenever she portrayed Aslaug.
Oh yeah I love that show and thought she looked familiar when I watched this
Forget one of the best deadite performances, Alyssa Sutherland has one of my favorite horror performances ever!
Facts
The “to the numbers” made me literally LOL. One of my favorite things about the kill counts are you always add in props & references throughout the video 😂😂
So excited for this episode!
9:47 how can it be ash in another time? didn't he already return to the future? or are there multiple ashs spread throughout time? are there multiple universes?
Maybe a reincarnation situation?
I didn’t realize how much this movie references the others
