      @@mountaindog1 I would have a question relating to this video about what to eat before, during and after training? I workout VERY late in the evening. Mostly I´m done at 11 or 11.30 at night, so what should I eat after training before going to sleep?

    I have learned more from watching John over these last several years than from any certification I have ever had. I have been a trainer for nearly 40 years which just goes to prove, we are never too old to learn. I am going to truly miss his wisdom and down to earth approach. May God richly bless his family during this time. His loss will be felt significantly in the fitness and bodybuilding world but his family has experienced a terrible loss. Please keep his family in prayer.

    I have been powerlifting/bodybuilding for over 30 years and I think this guy gives some of the best if not the best instruction and advice you can get. Just raw common sense, no bullshit, no fluff advice that works. Love this channel.

      @@mountaindog1 What if your preworkout meal is your first meal of the day? I watched another video of yours, where you said something like, on a cut it is important to have a bigger meal preworkout, not to be scared of having too much carbs beforehand something like that

    I love this channel. Great advice. I used to eat 170g of sweet potato and around 5 ounces of chicken an 1 hour before training and felt lathargic. Tried a 30g of protein shake with a rice cake and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and had my best lifts. The video summed up exactly why that worked. Brilliant!

    First thing in the morning, one hour before I train. 35g protein powder, 45g Rice Krispies, 1 scoop all natural peanut butter, 20 oz water and blend it up. I've found that's enough to get me through several sets of heavy deads and rows no problem.

    2dl of oat
    Walnuts
    Maybe 1 banana
    Cinnamon
    Cacao powder
    Put it in the blender with some water the day before

    I just have to say that putting peanut butter into my rice and chicken pre-workout has been a massive stimulus to better workouts for me. This is now my favorite meal of the day.

    This is the maaiiinnnnnnn aspect i fail in. I have been playing with my diet for a while now and ironically my body doesnt do good without carbs. The more carbs i eat( to an extent) the better i feel, the leaner i feel, and the pumps are way better. Ive tried low carb and I feel useless in the gym. This is some VERY helpful info!!!!

    Have been generally working about early morning. So I usually have peanut butter, banana and cottage cheese on toast and a coffee and I feel that has been getting me through a 1 hour session.

    Depends on my goals but... Preworkout...either fasted (if dieting/recomping) or whey, cream of rice and 1 T nut butter.
    Intraworkout...Recovery Factor or PeriMD with Gatorade if need more carbs.
    Post wokrout...2 scoops whey, 3 cups of puffed rice cereal.
    Solid meal advice from JM for over 10 years.

    As an athlete I've always struggled with my recovery and my performance dropping during longer workouts (I do combat sports). I think I'm definitely going to order me some cluster dextrin. Found your channel through Greg Doucettes videos and your channel is a gem! I've picked up on so many mistakes I've made (e.g with back exercises lifting with biceps rather than using my elbows) and this is all stuff that is going to benefit me enormously in the long run. Thank you, you give solid advice ! I hope you are feeling better now too :)

    I find 3 scrambled eggs half can of baked beans and protein yogurt the best combination and makes me feel great. Tried to have oats but it makes me extremely tired in the gym and can't lift after eating that.

      This sounds great, i have a similar approach. Though recently i learned how to make omelettes, u literally just pour the eggs in a pan with oil and butter, and let them sit on low heat for 3 minutes. That gives you an egg pancake you devour in no time.
      Hope your progress is going great, i wish u big gains.

      I am the exact opppsite. If I eat oatmeal, a protein shake, and some pre workout, maybe a bannana or apple before a workout, I feel great. If I eat eggs, beans, steak, ham before a workout I feel sluggish. But afterwards that stuff helps.

    John! Thanks for this. Before cutting I didnt really bother with meal timing because I had food, all the time. Now a few weeks into cutting and I really experience much more energy when im working out because of this. I eat two slices of bread, dipped in eggwhite with cinnamon (frenchtoast sortoff) with some greek yogurt and peanutbutter. Awesome pre workout food. Thanks again!

    Thank you for this advice. I will not even begin to describe the destruction i caused myself through unsupervised weight training as a teenager. I am 22 today (still putting myself back together) and very mindful about training/exercise.

    After 5 years of fasted lifting, I started doing splits and lifting mid-day.... The first workout i felt like I was going to throw up even after waiting 2 hours after eating my second meal. After watching this, I will be adjusting what I eat based on P,C,F... Thank you
