Jacob’s ladder up is hard dude especially with KMs under your belt and weight on your back! The horseshoe anticlockwise is unreal, did it last weekend and my quads are still suffering on Thursday (Sunday run out) you smashed it!
@@MattHoff-h2l cheers buddy! You're so right. Think I did it in that direction many years ago but must've forgotten how tough it is. Won't forget it in a hurry this time. Better not as I'm trying again soon.
Love that! When I took my dad there, there was an organised event doing the fan dance (called 'First In' Events). I've being toying with the idea ever since. Smashed it on this attempt though! How was the extra weight? Not done any walking with any real weight since we were kids. Will have to give it a test next time I'm on the hills.
@@GarethDaviesOutdoors those organised events got me thinking originally. But decided to just give it a go in the end. The weight was a challenge (reminded me of the DoE days) but nothing that you can't train your body to get used to which is exactly what I shall be doing over the winter. Maybe we could give it a go together mate when you feel ready?
@@terran3an1981 it's on! Let me get this damn marathon out the way and I'll start to focus on this. I said to Ash I wanted to do this after the marathon and then half Iron Man 😬 although I'm a good way off that at the minute, I expect fan dance training will give me a good bump in the right direction.
Well done mate, it's not the time it's the completion... Heads up you don't have to go all the way up Corn Du (pronounced Corn Dee in Welsh, it means Black Horn) you take a right and skirt around, path is quite easy to see (also come back this way). This could have saved you a bit as the last stretch up the horn is a lung burner... On way down the Fan move to the left and it's a lot easier under foot and more or less straight down (although frowned upon due to erosion). Jog the downhills and as much of flat as possible, tab as fast as you can when not jogging. On way back up fan try zig zagging up on left side opposite side you went down. If you are after that timing don't stop for narration/showing route (understand it's a YT video maybe a time lapse with dub over?) and I think you will bag it no dramas... P.S. There is no substitute for time under weight doing hill reps/flights of stairs, bananas and simple sugars/carbs are your friend... ;)
@@Left_Hand_Black that's amazing advice! Thank you! I'll certainly do all of that on my second attempt. Will definitely make a difference. Did see someone doing the dance at the top of 'Corn Dee' 👍 (obviously, big pack, going at it) and he went round. Now I know why. Cheers buddy!
Great effort mate, different training needed for that like you say the added weight makes huge difference as at 16 to 17st myself I get it 🤦♂️Did Ben Nevis first week in October with extra weight in ruck sack made hell of a difference legs totally cramped up at about 1000m kept on after recovery completed but learned so much. Did Snowdon in July daughters 60th birthday present ended up doing that twice in 3 days absolutely different level level though to Big Ben as you know 17:59 🥴 Ps like you I’m up South Downs twice per week from Arundel up around Bignor etc did it yesterday Whiteways to just past Duncton a circuit back got 1700ft of climb in 12 miles but like you say no comparison to those bloody mountains!!! Literally said to mate yesterday need to do the fan dance as last did it early eighties when in the forces myself hated it then !!!
@@stevepoole9472 it is amazing the difference adding a bit of weight does to a nice 'walk' up a mountain. Training absolutely or more like conditioning maybe? A few months and I'll beat this thing. Sounds like you're pretty active? If you're thinking about it you should give it a go. If you've done it before then you know it's unpleasant but it just has to be beaten! Good luck if you do 👍
@@josephmccallion2321 I think that'll be the trick! Been using oat bars which are great for a day's walking but they don't release energy quickly so gels are the way to go. Never used them before though so hope they're not disgusting!?

To put yourself through and complete the route is already a win, give time to the time, it will come

You don't actually go up to corn Dee you take a right to the other side then turn left at the path
