Good on ya mate, another great video!.. brings back all those damp memorys from up on the hills last week 😅, hope youve recoverd and are getting back at it ready for the next one!!
Endurance ('Long Drag') on test week is done in sub 20hrs carrying 55lb (less water & food). The thing to remember is that it is done at the end of 4 weeks of increasingly difficult tabs and having just completed a 22-mile sketch map tab 4 hours before.
I couldn't believe it when you said the 24-hour marathon was 5x the Fan Dance. I did the FD with my son last week who is very keen to pursue a carrer in the military. I won't lie, we did it as intended and it took us 4hrs 40 mins. That said, we were blessed with beautiful weather and no wind at all. I'm still recovering too! All the best with your future plans mate.
Thank you. He's wanted to be a soldier since about 4 years old, and he's now almost 17. He's at the last stage of his application for a forces scholarship to take him through 6th form studies and hopefully university too. I grew up in the Black Mountains, and I am pleased to hear that you enjoy the Welsh terrain. All the best.
Hi mate, no I left the tent up at the campsite. The Rab Latok Mountain 2 weights 4.3lbs (1.9kg). Top tips would be: 1. Do self nav so lots and lots and lots of nav prep on the route. 2. Don't carry excess bodyweight get in mega shape (not sure I was....) 3. Do not quit unless you break a leg or have some other sort of catastrophic injury. Not everyone can do that but that's ultimately the key. Very few entrants to the civvy version like the one pictured ever finish if any. 👍
Any civvy or ex mil that thinks they can rock up and attempt endurance with a chance of actually completing it is seriously deluded. Not a chance. You have to be proper bergan fit . You dont get to use torches or stop and have time to make brews!!! You both were waiting for the DS to show you the way when he stopped for a map check ! I did not see either of you with a map or compass out checking yourselves. On the descent down to storey arms you should have been jogging. Its downhill. Ive said it before it also looks like your wearing too much clothing. In the middle of winter you sweat your tits off and actually quite easily over heat when on the move. The only time you layer up with warm kit is when your properly static. If your not careful you over heat quickly and badly when you put waterproofs on over your smock. At least you tried.
