The West is Learning the Wrong Lessons about Airpower in Ukraine

  • Western experts continuously make inappropriate comparisons between Russia’s air campaign in Ukraine to the US air campaign in Iraq in the 1990s and against in 2003;
    Such experts ignore the primary difference where Iraq lacked modern integrated air defenses while Ukraine began in 2022 with significant defenses;
    These same experts ignore the significant losses US military aviation suffered in contested airspace such as over Vietnam where the US lost over 10,000 aircraft or the necessity of US military aviation to use stand-off strikes in Syria because of the presence of modern air defense capabilities;
    While Western experts laud the performance of the US-made Patriot missile system, the fact that interceptors cannot be made in large enough quantities detracts from its overall efficacy;
    Russia’s use of military aviation in Ukraine reflects the realities both on and above the battlefield, realities that would effect Western air forces were they in Russia’s place;

      @@waldtradition1166the raptor Is tbe best jetfighter ever built and also the one that is simply too good to keep.
      But for the cost involved, it was never a keeper. Yes, it will own any airspace you send it to and bury every other fighter. Thats is not even a contested claim.
      But its deadweight for any other role, so the US Pivoted to the F35, an overall Less domineering fighter, but a much bigger multirole jet. "Good enough" is actually that: good enough.
      With the mid term goal of teaming f35 with missile truck drones, the idea is to BVR every engagement.
      Tbe superior Flight characteristics of tbe f22 do not come to play.
      So in short: the F22 is the Best Jetfighter ever Built, it has no competition and as such is living the life of a superior specialists that is never called on to duty.

    • @akhtarahtesham
      @akhtarahtesham 2 месяца назад

      They try to achieve superiority in terms like 1:4+. That can only achieve a momentary setback for a peer rival. In this war the Russians have something like 2 weeks learning curve and then they over that superior weapon. The West can try with F-22s, F-35s, and the B-2s and learn how much time elapses before they too are spoofed for good.

      while they killl lots of the civilian population, and contaminate those countries' soil, air environment, they call this superiority, victory, which is very ironic.. in reality it is nothing more than cowardly wars of hit and run.. it does not fit in the reality of the west that the air.always moves, the contamination always spreads as a consequence.of which the west goes on the war of pretence with its own population. The west has also to fight the wars of other kind on its own home ground, the home front which has nothing to do with its. air superiority.. the West has chosen wars of attrition with its own people.

Misalignment was countered with scale and competence. Also price for maintaining impressive 1200 combat aircraft was that Russian Aerospace Force was _hollowed_ - low flying hours, no complex scenarios trained in force, late introduction PGMs and low rate purchases. The North Vietnamese airdefense was as a force to reckon with, any US veteran pilot will tell you that. Their Soviet SAM system cover a long range and high altitues layer of defense, forcing enemy to fly low, to approach their target, only for them to discover a numerous well hidden flaks which target them at that height. Those who fought their way through all of that would face Soviet Migs with air-to-air intercepting missile integrated with ground radar system. Between 2,251 to 3,744 aircrafts where shot down and 5,607 helicopters in the spand of 13 years. All of that were achived with a help of Soviet/Russian, whos military and humanitarian aids was 20 times less than US war expenses in Vietnam.

    • @S1lverarrow
      @S1lverarrow 2 месяца назад

      @@alextercarrera584 You invented that part my friend, from listening to loosers who explained how they loose so much aircrafts.
      First of all US had main 4 airbases from which they flew to bomb Vietnam. Danang, Saigon in south VN. Bangkok in Thailand and another in Philipinese, I know geography is not popular in American school, but I am telling you you cant use 1 corridor to bomb Noth Vietnam flying from 3 different countries, located in different direction.
      Secondly if again you learn geography, Vietnam is not a big territory, so you cant savely penetrate Vienam airspace nomatter how much corridor you fly, radar will detect you before you even approach North Vietnam airspace. Given that the the middle of vietnam is a very narrow parth, and most of military installation was there, you seriously expect to find any save part to there? What are you gona do fly to China and make hook back through entire North Vietnam to strike southern border of North ietnam? And you really thing the North Vietnamese with Russian assistance can not figureout to put radar in Laos and Cambodia to early detect your aircrafts?
      And finally you seriously think it were the politican who forced military to use one corridor? Name me please those politicans. This is bullshit on so many levels. Politicans don't make military planing, they give order, Joint Chiefs of Staff draw plan, military officers excecute it. US Polican can't even point on map where is the country they are currently at war with, they cant force anybody to fly in one corridor, because they cant point out that corridor. You military generals are simply incompetent and arrogant they cant believe rice farmers can operate sofisticated airdefensse and even fly aircrafts, that is, they did the same mistake in Serbia, and get F-117 shot down, and they are making the same mistake again by underestimating Russia.
      You may not be impress by Soviet/Russian air defense, but the airdefense dont give a sh!t about you, it has integraged long range radar it detects aircraft, it launches missiles which fly way faster than your impressed aircrafts and shot them down, and then North Vietnamese farmers melt the scraps into the world most expensive dishes made from aviation grade aluminium. You know what is unimpressed? The US pilots' skill, The North Vietnamese who had a tiny airforce were able to shot down more US aircraft and pilots, there is a list of Vietnam war aces, just google it, there were only 5 US aces vs 19 North Vietnamese and almost all of them shot down more aircrafts then American counterparts. The poor performance of US pilots lead into creation of famous TOP GUN school, where they gathered WW2 veterant pilots to teach US pilot how to do dogfight. So the only myth is US airpower, which is nothing but numeric and funding advantage.

    The latest survey by the KIIS, which has conducted polling about Ukrainians' attitudes to Russia's SMO since May 2022, suggested a shift in opinion. The poll found that 32 percent of Ukrainians said they would accept ceding territory to "achieve peace and preserve independence," compared to 26 percent in February this year. It was 9 percent in February 2023. "Ukrainian morale for reclaiming all territories may be waning due to exhaustion and heavy losses," Viktor Kovalenko, a defense analyst and former Ukrainian soldier told Newsweek. "Their military has shifted to a defensive stance, lacking the capabilities for a counteroffensive. Despite assurances of unwavering support, Western aid appears increasingly uncertain."
    The survey also found that 55 percent of respondents still opposed giving up territory to Russia if it would end the war. However, this was down from 74 percent of the population in December 2023 who held this view.
    This was also a drop of 10 percentage points from the 65 percent of people who backed such a move in February 2024.

      And they lost Vietnam - to a force that was not peer, including over 2200 airframe losses despite the casualties ratio. When they fought peer level opponents in WWII they took over a million casualties including over 407k deaths despite fighting in a coalition and being the absolute last nation into the war. The US hasn't fought a single war against a peer level opponent in its entire history. Not even the Civil War where it fought against itself, because there were native Americans fighting on both sides, there were Canadians fighting, there were European logistics and resupply and yes, there was even the diplomatic help of Catherine of Russia as well as a battle group of Russian warships that patrolled the East Coast between North Carolina and New York preventing the Confederates from attacking the Union by sea. Finally the truth about Russian air power is coming out. I've had a full decade of brain washed fan boys. Believing every word of how fantastic US aircraft compared to Russia's. Russia's military aircraft are fantastic, combined with their air defences. They're capable of giving Western forces a lot more than a bloody nose.

    • @taelorpickel2830
      @taelorpickel2830 2 месяца назад

      Oh yeah, and especially with their air defenses. There's a rather concerning fact that MiG-31 interceptors can basically snipe 90% of Western aircraft beyond their (Western aircraft) range. Russia appears to have very good ground attack aircraft though, I'd argue better than their Western counterparts. Not to mention helicopters. The KA-52 is better than any Western contemporaries. I won't lie, the AH-1Z and UH-60 are good helicopters and I really like their aesthetic, but they are lacking when compared to Russian counterparts (maybe not the UH-60, but the AH-1Z certainly). The AH-64 is good with hellfire missiles, but it's much older than the KA-52, and far less adaptable.

    Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity.
    In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas.
    If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy.
    Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements.
    Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time
    Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns.
    20th September, 2021. Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO
    NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter).
    We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc.
    Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster?
    Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest.
    Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland.
    Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed.
    Poroshenko said, “Our children will go to schools and kindergartens-theirs will hide in the basements”.
    Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. The whole world needs to know about it.
    Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country.
    Ukraine has a hit list. They target artists, journalists and ordinary citizens. Hundreds of children are on this list. 13 year old Faina Savenkova was placed on this list.
    Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is on this list. Jimmy Dore (American stand-up comedian, podcaster) and Aaron Maté (Canadian writer and journalist) are on this list.
    There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbas (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence).
    The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present.
    Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave.
    Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P.
    The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims).
    The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter.
    I have done a lot of research and it took a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion.
    I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written.
    Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.

    The narrative on Vietnam is all about K/D ratios that demonstrated US dominance in air power. History Channel plays right into this. The narrative is 'we may have lost the land war but we totally dominated in the air'. Well we also had a higher K/D ratio on the ground. We still retreated.
    So Vietnam was truly a fool's errand (sorry Vets, not my fault). We lost a lot of troops and airmen and ran away. And the only consolation prize is 'but at least we got a lot of Charlie!' Kudos.

      Not the main factor but its pretty darn important. However there is a main problem with the approach. The US is a naval-air power and in that 2 category, they are the number one. Russia on the other hand, is a land power and in that category, they are the best and the largest. You cannot defeat them on land, their landmass alone makes it impossible. However to occupy a country, you need land forces and a lots of it. Russia knew this, thats why they invested so much in air defenses, especially mobile air defense platforms so the enemy cannot achieve air superiority over their land units.

    Imperial media doctrine changed twice in the past 2 decades.
    Around 2000 "Opinionated Journalism" was introduced and propagated as proper journalism.
    Around 2020 "Perception is Reality in Journalism" was introduced and propagated.
    The idea behind the latter most extreme doctrine is, that reality doesn't matter what matters is the mind model of people.
    It is a Silicone Valley invention stemming from ideas like augmented reality and metaverse.
    The idea is that reality can be completely replaced for most people, and only a few need to form an interface to reality in order to physically feed and house the "meta verse" people living in an imaginary/perceived reality.
    These extreme ideologized views of reality will not only lead to a bad awakening but also co-lead to the societal collapse of the US empire and its key colonies, the EU, Japan, and South Korea.
