  • Well this is a collection of underwater footage from over the past year of some awesome pike attacks! Using dead baits and live baits. Some on hooks with wire trace and some just on light mono and no hooks to give the pike a free meal. I used a mixture of bait to from roach to perch to even a small dead pike. All filmed in the local urban shallow clear river / creek. I've been doing so much canal fishing recently i thought you guys could do with a little change up.

@The Ginger Fisherman live bait fishing is not allowed in the U.K. It is banned and illegal in Scotland. It is also illegal to transport live fish in Scotland. Just to keep the viewers that might want to come to Scotland in the know.

When I was a kid I used to walk to a local stately home around 4 miles away with a friend of mine. We'd go look at the animals, walk around the woods and the grounds, and explore the lake. Did it countless times. Once we were in the back of the woods edging onto the lake. You're technically not supposed to be there, and it's usually impossible to get to, but the lake was low that day and we found solid ground right up to the edge of the water. There was a huge tench, about 6-7lbs, with the biggest bite mark out of it's side, laying half in the water, half out. I thought it must have died and a fox might have taken a bite out of it. We threw it back into the water and carried on.
A few hours later, as we were on our way back, my friend went for a leak in the trees and I stood near the waters edge on the wall looking at the water. Some huge black submarine slowly swam passed me, just inches away from the bank, and I could see clearly it was the most enourmous pike I've ever seen. Fish always look bigger in the water, but if I'd have reached down I could have touched it, and it slowly drifted past as I began to follow it, it must have been well over 30lbs and almost as long as I was tall. An absolute monster.
It's a big lake, and I know pike fishing was banned there a decade later and the gameskeepers actively encouraged anyone who caught a pike to kill it and leave it on the side. The majority of them were eradicated. This beast I saw must have been old. For decades, holiday makers would use the lake for boating or kayaking, with some fishing but mainly for the smaller fish on casters or maggot. But my brother told me stories of people he knew pulling out large 15-20lb pike regularly, before the ban and the cull.
Such a shame. The lake was built alongside the home, some 180 years ago, and I imagine generation after generation of pike leading up to that beast I saw. All brought to an end.

Hey Chris, as a child I used to live bait for pike with my grandad, he said fish were cold blooded and didn’t feel pain. I could see by the fishes reaction when a hook was past through their back that this was simply not true, I knew this was not right as a child and I eventually stopped using this method.
As you see from your footage the baited fish also fear for their life.
Whether it is legal or not, true fisherman are guardians of fish, and their environment, unless you are fishing for to feed yourself, there are other ways to catch without causing undue harm and distress to other fish.
    You know this.
I hope you rethink your morals and stop using fish as live baits in future.
Ps I like most of your other videos keep them coming.

Norfolkngood,,Using that logic you would have to look at the fear and pain inflicted on any fish we catch ,, Morals ,,as you put it could be used against anyone who puts a hook into a fish under any circumastances ,,You could even take it much further,,,what about the pain and fear inflcted on worms ,,maggots etc ,,worms feel pain as well as any other creature ,, I have fished all of my life [ a very long and happy one ]] i have livebaited and caught some true goliath pike ,,my PB is 42 lb ,, caught way back in the midst of time ,,I have live baited until one afternoon when i realised the gudgeon i had caught 3 pike on was still alive ,, Imagine
that poor fish had beeen eaten 3 times ,,and was still swimming ,, I took it off the hook ,,put it in a keepnet and took it home where it swam in my garden pond for a few years after ,,,I stopped livebaiting that day ,,and never woulld again ,,but once we begin to tell others what to do , we are on a slippery slope , I trully understand where you're coming from ,, I have been lucky enough to fish with some of the greatest pike anglers ,including Richard Furlong [ RIP ] one of the best i've ever known ,,He could catch fish in a puddle , I recently caught a carp ,, avery big fish caught by accident,,it had 3 other rigs in its mouth ,,where are the morals in that ?? it's a weapon that will one day be used to end fishing as we know it ,, be careful what you ask for ,, there are people out there who would love to stop you ,,me and anyone else from ever going fishing again ,, Please don't take this as a hit ,,or a knock ,,i respect your views ,, but it's a thought ,,There are many aspects of the sport now days i hate to see,,, being bivvied up yards from the rods fast asleep is just one ..But that's how others choose to do it ,, just not for me ,, Every animal alive will feel pain ,, fear and distress if it's suddenly tethered ,,,some will say it's immoral and cruel to stick a hook in any creatures mouth ,, Best wishes ,,and well done Chris amazing footage as always,,,you get professional standard films ,, Keep up these films ,,youmake an old man want to getbback on the bank again,

      @@peransix864 WOW 42 pounder you’re a Star.
I hear you,, I know exactly what you mean.
I’m not adverse to hooking worms or maggots, for me it’s a balance of primal instinct, knowing I have the skill to catch and put food on the table if I needed to. At the same time I care for and act to ensure very minimum harm to the fish,
I think most fisherman, however they may start out become keepers for the well-being of fish and their environment in general.
Fisherman tend to have a kinship together we are an army and I trust we would stand up to any groups that tried to ban fishing as cruel, as I have no doubt that far more good than harm results from the activities of fishing.
For me fishing HEALS MY SOUL
I hope Chris spend some money on and show the use of the latest electronic life like lures, that should be good viewing.
      Best regards Norfolkngood

@@utube1818 I’ve replied to peran six, I also certainly get where he’s coming from, as time goes by morals change.
As a kid I remember seeing the banks littered with dead pike as they were caught and killed by fisherman as they regarded as fish eating vermin, not now though.
I have never seen how these electronic lures preform, I can imagine they could equal a live bait, I would like to see Chris put that on RUclips for us.
