Unbelievable-fascinating- eat your hearts out BBC Naturewatch. I've fished all my life and never seen such footage - give this guy a TV series and show people what REALLY happens in the waters of the UK ! Congratulations.
As you pointed out, Tench are cautious, picky fish and not always easy to catch , therefore any and all Tench caught are a treasure to behold. Thanks for the effort you put in to the video.👍🏴
I would have to disagree. I just can't understand why he uses ridiculous 3lb line and loses so many fish. Even 70lb braid would not put off those tench. I'd be more inclined to pre-bait in much larger amounts to induce the larger specimens to move in and feed very confidently.
A tench is not welcome when Iv spent a lot of time critically balancing my bait sharping my hook. Casting to my area getting it spot on first cast then a slimy tench picks it up just before it gets dark making it even harder to replicate my original cast
This was truly a gem to watch. Very interesting to see their behaviour under water. Tench are such underrated fish, because for their size they put on a hell of a fight. More of this please, we appreciate your dedication!
The pike behaviour was fascinating. It explains why so many of the jacks I have on small creature baits are hooked on the very point of their “nose”. Thanks Chris.
Tench really are one of the most beautiful coarse fish in Britain. Well done on a gorgeous fish. It's incredible how visible the line is in the water. PS It's consolation, not constellation prize! 😉
100% agree with one of the other comments, you deserve your own tv program. A million times better than any fishing tv program I’ve ever watched over past 30 years. If a tv channel took a chance on you they would make a fortune. Lee from obsession with angling is amazing too. Would be a dream to have a days fishing with either of you
Got to say, since we sadly lost the legend mr John Wilson, I haven’t come across anyone who could compare anywhere near him. until now. Your enthusiasm and presentation is incredible and this is what got me in to fishing over 40 years ago. Well done sir!! I’m pretty sure that One day you will have your own Tv show. Totally loving your content!! Thank you 🙏😬😬🙏👌✨✨
I liked the beauty of the underwater aquascape. The truly haunting glimpse into another world that one so rarely sees. Cool collected and tranquil. And I like your ginger beard too
From a very young angler years ago I was always told by other fisherman that tench are one of the hardest fish to catch. Even them saying that carp are easier than tench to tempt to the hook. I love the green machines. Even if I pick one up on a carp rig at range there welcome 😊
Stunning video. Love the way you systematically worked through the issues and ended up with a couple of good tench. Pike footage was also epic. Brilliant stuff. Thanks for sharing.
I just wanted to say a big thank you for your amazing video of catching that beautiful tench in the canal! Your perseverance and the stunning underwater footage made it such an enjoyable watch. Keep up the great work! Best regards, William
A real insight into the behaviour of tench and how this understanding can contribute to an improved catch rate. A quality video that certainly takes a fishing video to another level. So bored watching videos which focus on rigs, bait and hook a duck commercials!!! A+
Wonderful footage: I love tench. They are so beautiful and very shy. I really do not like carps. Even in my little pond the golden tench I have for years and feed regularly are hard to watch as they escape in under the vegetation when something is scaring them. I never ate a tench despite the fact that I tried to cook nearly every species of fish I caught at least once to try how they taste. I was amazed more than once that quite big pikes are sometimes eating tiny worms. A friend caught a big one on a hook size 12 with a tiny worm on it: He was actually trying to catch bait. The hooked pike raced across the big pond straight into the net! The net got completely destroyed but we caught the fish. This season tenches get ready to have their mating dances in flooded grass. They are really fat now. During their mating after sunset you can sometimes touch them with bare hands. That is the moment they loose all their shyness. It is wonderful to watch. They got so rare where I live. It is a pity. When I was younger we often went to rescue tenches and many other kind of fish that got trapped in side pools after they were drying out in autumn and early winter. Sometimes I hammered tenches out of the ice. There was no water left in the ponds, but when you massaged them they got back alive.
Great footage Chris - thanks for sharing. Interesting to see the pike behaviour and great to see you bank a decent tench 👊 I know how much work goes into these - thanks mate 👊
After seeing Korda's underwater videos I got really hooked on underwater videos to better understand the behaviour of different species and ages of fish. Amazing insight as an amateur angler. Now I can help my beginner buddy catch some picky-eaters fish at our lake since he's been struggling on the float. I will definitely tell him to mount his lead a bit further up and tie a push-stop/hair rig for corn. I hope he can finally land some more fish consistently aside from the odd prussian carp orgy days we sometimes get.
From a match fishermen, that was pretty impressive. When you had tight line to the float the tench were spooked, laying on a couple of foot was incredible. laying on for me is a couple of inches so ill try this. Brilliant.
Great video Chris! Love seeing the footage I find it fascinating. I’m actually going after Tench myself in the morning so thank you and wish me luck 😀🎣 ….Smithy
It always makes me laugh when you do those shots of you walking away from the camera and I know as soon as the clip ends you have to turn around, walk back and pick it up again hahaha
This looked like a really beautiful place to fish. I liked this video, there was some really nice footage, in relatively clear water. Nice to see the different fish, especially the pike and tench... 😎👍🏻
Having just started Tench fishing, after decades of carping, I'm amazed at how difficult they are to catch. I've spent hour after hour watching the fizzing around my float and striking into nothing when it lifts. Very interesting to see the underwater behaviour 🤔
It's surprising how much fish is actually there. Really nice footage. I live next to the ocean, maybe I'll through a go pro in there and see if there's anybody down there... I don't fish so I'll have to look it up...
Jacks can be a nightmare when I target big Perch in the winter months on the River Severn, with lobworms. On one session last winter, I caught the same pike 3 times on a lobworm!
Great video man! It must have been at least 30 years since i've fished like this. So many good memories. It is how my fishing adventure started. Tench was my favorite fish to catch.
You realise that loosing that first Tench was Karma for making us all see your back crack 😅 . Great underwater footage, and yes it all takes hard work to put it altogether. Loved the way the Pike picked up worms.
I love tench, beautiful fish. I tend to make up two tubs of ground bait, one loose to throw in and one a stodgy paste so I can mould it around the hook. In fact that's pretty much the only way I fish for everything other than predators. Just vary the size of the paste ball depending what I'm going for. Been doing it that way for 20 years, never fails.

Been saying this for a couple of years now there’s nothing on tv like this he’s a fishing genius gentleman 🎣🐟👍🏻
Astonishing and incredible. You are the most innovative and methodical angler on the internet Chris. A joy to watch.
That Tench was gorgeous, almost gold on its belly. Mate, you've got it nailed on, I could watch that footage over & over. Good man Chris, good man.
"Tench can't resist a worm"....tench proceeds to resist the worm 😂
LITERALLY 🤣
This will teach snagged bro how to catch in the garden peg 😂

Won't catch him any Barbel though 😊

Chris i be honest watching your channel is by far the best in my opinion for Coarse fishing on youtube ! Well done mate
Brilliant film. So informative. As good as any wildlife doc on TV.
Tons of Roaches around and the Pikes is diggin on a worm?!? 😳
The Tench is such a beautiful, picky and very cautious fish ❤️
Great video! 👍🏼
Loving the latin ..i read the observer book of fish as a child and always tried to remember the latin words of different species .
Pike are lazy they only go for sick fish that don't move much. They have a very quick short burst of speed but lack stamina.
Probably isnt in hunting mode
Pike can ignore fish for days
They dont just take every fish that comes near them

Amazing how clear that water is. Even in Winter my local canal is about as clear as soup.
Amazing underwater filming, excellent. Fascinating to see how many fish are drawn in to the swim by the groundbait.
Some fantastic looking tench, great footage. The Pike swooping in absolutely defines why I like them so much.
What an amazing bit of educational footage. Absolutely love it. Thank you so much.

Love this video for all kinds of reasons, but that pike in slow motion was amazing.
Tench are simply put the best looking fish there is. and that pesky pike had me in bits haha
Great video. It was quite fascinating watching how those fish were behaving around that visible line (before pinning it down).
There's plenty of fish in that canal, stunning video as always 👌👍
