I must admit I’ve struggled to get my head round fishing the floods around where I live this year but watching you I now know I should get my arse out and stop complaining about it , fantastic video 👍
Thanks for proving it's worth fishing in conditions like that, I have always avoided doing that thinking it wouldn't be worthwhile, I am glad to be proven wrong.
I watched him say big pike feed in stormy conditions, I caught 3 double figure pike in 4 hours of rough weather biggest was around 17lb my best days lure fishing for pike this year. Funny I had the whole lough to myself, nobody else insane enough!
Ask santa for a set of spring scales and get rid of the digital ones. They will always let you down and they'll let you down when you have a pb. They don't give you a correct weight in the cold either. Great vid bud just get a proper set of scales 👍🏻
I love your videos mate. All the negative stuff happening in the world and all the worries about life and work in general get put on pause when I play one of your videos. So thank you, keep going and I hope you keep getting more success and popularity or whatever it is you’re after (other than fish).
An eye-opener for a lot of people, including me. When my landing net fell overboard (un-noticed) I put a half filled plastic bottle in the river and followed it downstream. When it hit a flood raft there was my landing net beside it.
Some cracking perch and pike there buddy small rivers in flood present some great opportunities for predator fishing I’ve had some of my best sessions for predators from flooded rivers and my best ever barbel session from a rising river which included a twenty pound carp four double figure barbel and two six pound plus chub people should never ignore a flooded river but always be careful as a flooded river takes no prisoners
A fantastic session, well done. You really need a longer handled net. I followed your link about those lures and was astonished how expensive they were, many times above my price range. I make all my own.
These past few weeks on my local River Nene (just to the west of Peterborough) have been difficult and I've been trying to find slack water when the main river's up several feet.... Still catching a few Perch though (nothing big apart from a 27cm and a 29cm), but did get a bonus 8.5lb Pike on a 2" Fox Micro Fry 3g jig (fluoro leader) at a lock......Bit of a fight when it got in the flow but got her out.....2-12g rod and 1000 reel stuff. Been lure fishing since I was a kid back in the '70's and always blanked in flooded and coloured water....Channels like yours and other anglers on RUclips have certainly made me think a lot more, which is what it's all about in my opinion. I hadn't fished for 12 years until a year ago and have learnt so much in a short space of time....The joy for me is that I've not blanked a lot this season so far and I put it down to using the old grey matter in my head due to blokes like yourself.....Keep up the good work.
What a perfect day!!! Congrats to you for doing the right thing in conditions where others stay at home :)) Always a pleasure to watch your chanel . Tight lines from Germany
Chris you are by far the best angler on you tube without doubt ,i have binge watched all your uploads from back in the days 9 years ago when you were starting out minus the beard !!!! absolutely awesome ,cannot wait to see you in action in the YPC competition you will smash it mate good luck too you ,please any info on your unhooking mat and backpack you were using in the last upload would be grateful, tight lines mate massive respect .
Wish I i had perch like that around here. Smallmouth bass dominate the river niche in my area, but perch taste so much better! Couple quarties have some small some small perch, maybe half pounders at best..
Oy Mr Ginger fisherman that was great again but don't forget one slip in heavy water could be your last! Safety first especially when you're on your own!
Really great video, Chris. So exciting to watch. You need to offer your services to Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse in their 'Gone Fishing' series, as they struggle to catch every time. Nice manly banter though...
I had a very fast flowing river/Brook that would get swollen a number of times every year, and every time it did I would just avoid it altogether. Are used to only float fishing which is probably why… Didn’t ever think to bother going for pike or perch. Didn’t think anything hung around when the current was that strong
Can't wait to watch this one to see how you approach these conditions , but ill watch on the big screen just here to leave a comment and excited to see you fish ypc
Wow what a session matey. Wish. I’d have seen this last week went to my local river last week in similar conditions and thought waste of time and went back home. 🙈 never to old to learn am I 🥴😂👍🏻
Hey up chris. Iv noticed in this video you put the off set hook through the soft plastic, through its side instead of bottom to top when using it as weedless .is there a benefit of doing so? Great vid as usual pal 👍
Cracking video and been watching the comp your in and from what I've seen and this video today you should smash it can't wait to watch your first round
Did I see correctly that your weedless is set from the side? Regarding scales, I trust my Hurricane 50g - 50kg waterproof digital, it always works. (bright yellow with blue backlit panel and built-in tape measure)
Good stuff. Can i ask what the reel is? I use a lot of light tackle for Perch fishing and have seen these types of reels on a lot of YT vids, but dont know much about them. Cheers.
Hi ya, great video and thanks for posting. I really want to get into this type of fishing but I have no idea how to handle a pike once landed which puts me off a little. I don’t want to damage or hurt the fish, any tips on how to hold and unhook and the sorts of kit I might need to be successful?
I love watching your videos, but I have a question. Isn't it better to fish with a wire leader in such conditions, because of all the pike. I live in the Netherlands and you just get bit off if you fish without a leader.
Chris, maybe a slightly more random question, your wellington boots seem to be quite wide at the tops like around the calf. Being a larger gentleman myself, I have quite large calves and struggle with most brands of wellington. So really to end a long winded question, I'm asking where ya got the pair in this video? Long time sub and watch almost every upload, keep the great content coming
@@nospoon4799 my local is a chalk stream that becomes tidal around 12 miles from the springs at its source. It’s fairly slow flowing as the area is relatively flat and the 20 mile tidal stretch often flows backwards 5-10 miles from the mouth. When it’s in flood, it turns to choco milk and the backwards flow only happening for 2-3 miles, and the flow picks up a fair bit. I just can’t work out; 1) are they just going off the feed due to conditions. Or 2) are they heading to parts of the river I am yet to discover. It’s all very secret squirrel around here, getting info is like pulling teeth. Which is understandable.
@@jimmyfireball Sounds similar to my local river. It regularly goes backwards on a big tide. Watch your tide cycles would be my advice as on my local river big tides push over the weir and push the fish far up river. It definitely fishes better on small tides on the lower reaches. This could be the same on your stretch. With no weir all tides will have an effect though, not just big tides.. There is a river level graph on the EA ( or NRW) website. You will see the big tides as a blip on the general level. I even fish by the tides in non tidal waterways. Especially bigger lakes. It has helped me a lot. I grew up sea fishing so I understand the tides well.

I bet you smashed it mate. My Moneys on you. And maybe 50p on Thom Hunt😊
I must admit I’ve struggled to get my head round fishing the floods around where I live this year but watching you I now know I should get my arse out and stop complaining about it , fantastic video 👍
I've been angling my whole life, you've really raised the bar with coloured water lure fishing and opened my eyes to so many missed opportunities. 👍
I was expelled from school for saying that the guy was Ginger!
@@matimus100sounds like you was a bit of a prick
Hey Chris. Fished in the UK 2 years ago.
Caught one of my bucket list. Double figure Pike on the River Nene. Thanks for a great show.
Thanks for proving it's worth fishing in conditions like that, I have always avoided doing that thinking it wouldn't be worthwhile, I am glad to be proven wrong.

Anything that stirs up the water will get the fish going
Totally agree 👍
In my area, me and other fishers blank when it's flooded
The Ginger fisherman makes Matt Hayes look like a beginner
he's waters are unreal. he lives on different level.

I appreciate the effort you put into the visual quality as well as the action.
Those are beautiful baits. They work very well! Good job and thanks !

Tight lines from Germany
Love you're video's watching from Ireland 🇮🇪 hope you win 🏆
I have caught big chubs in water like this, but with cicada bait.
It makes strong vibration and my catch was about 20 chubs per day.
I’ve always avoided flood waters since once trying as a teenager. (I’m now 49) But these were some great perch and nice pike!
Absolutely stunning Perch in conditions I wouldn't normally look at (I will now) - Epic
I will be cheering U on in the ypc banks from my balcony in Jamaica 🇯🇲🇩🇪can't wait🙏🏼😎💪🏽
Seen you use them trolling and had some big pike on them.cracking lures and wellmade .b3st of luck to all how enters .top pize and top lad..
Imo the best contrast for dirty water or even night time is a black fly. Interesting thoughts with the shine, my money is on black though.

what is that rod combo and the net?
Would you please put some 3 in 1 oil on your new net. Happy you got to use it a lot but that screech! 😂
Already on the fast track to buying yourself another net haha

But I think you just know your river, better than I know mine.
