Your theory on pike changing their colour is spot on 👏👏 I've kept small pike in the past in aquariums and have observed them doing this .As you observed yourself a pike sitting in weeds will colour up more green to camouflage itself and a pike sitting on gravel or sand will lighten in colour. Great vid as always tight lines 🎣🎣
We had a clown loach in a tank, all nice light brown a very black, but if you switched the tank on after a few hours in absolute darkness, its colours were very much muted. I was told it's because keeping the camouflage colours costs energy and if they don't need the camo, they'll switch it off. So maybe one pike was getting more light than the other as well. All theory.
All fish change colour to their surroundings. I thought most people would have noticed that. Tench are a lovely dark green in some waters but are more yellow like in sand pits. Put some rudd in a white bucket and lighten up in an hour.
Yep bang on witnessed it as a kid when noddy bashing on a canal had a big momma come in and sit basically between my legs watching my catches was there for a few hours before getting spooked when it arrived, was dark in colour and slowly became lighter
Another great session again Chris, It Is still flooded here, making things very difficult to fish at all. You and Your brother, should have gone after the Big Girl You lost not long ago. She will be still In and around that Deep part of the river. Keep 'Em Coming.
Flipping heck, there's two of you !!! I've noticed that Pike and Perch have a range of colours and always thought that it was just environment....An interesting idea about changing colour..... The shot at 11:12.....Wow, that'd make a good still/Farcebook cover shot etc. Not deadbaited for decades but used to get a few on roach and seabaits many moons ago going back to the late '70's.....I'm a lure man but still have an old Shakespeare 12ft Pike rod that could come out of a dusty cupboard.....Hmmmm ? Who knows ? Great channel 10/10
Some friends & I went fishing EVERY week of the great winter of 1962-63! Every second week was a club coach outing, which was full each time, even though sometimes hard to determine where the edge of the road was! Trains took us otherwise & were always on time ! Only once did we fail to catch fish as we couldnt see due to severe blizzard so coach had to depart for home early !
You are so fortunate to have a canal that's full of pike. You can't fail to catch. Here in parts of East Anglia, pike numbers are a tenth of what they should be, so you're lucky to catch one in umpteen trips. Sad days around here.
G'day Chris, always good to see you and Dom fishing together . Awesome pikes both of you ,glad you got the drone back. All the best form down under mate 👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
A good friend friend introduced me to the Ginger Fisherman and I'm sooo happy he did as I just love your fishing adventures 😊 some really nice fish bro, thank you for your upload 🙂
Great session, just shows if unlike me you are prepared to go out in all weather's they are there to catch. But at my age I will stick to the couch and watch you on here.nice one Chris...David B, Chichester
Cool vid mate, i had a hypothesis that fish in clear water, say a perch for example seem to have more distinctive markings and more colour in them, like in rivers, lakes and canals. But when you catch one on a fishery they are always almost silver with faded markings and colour. I thought that it was because of the increased danger from predators such as birds, otters, bigger predator fish in clear water they had just evolved to be more camo, but on fisheries the water always seems to be very murky, meaning that the predators would struggle to see them, so they would not need camo. Another guy said it was due to the sunlight, like the same as our skin, more exposure to sunlight means our skin goes darker. Interesting.
Great video man! I really like this one. I grew up obsessively fishing in the most tucked away places I was able to find in Southern England but live in Australia now, so your channel is now my English fishing life line. Keep up the good work mate. 👍🏻
Hi Chris, there is a company out there that manufacturers an item specifically for retrieving drones from very tall trees, up to 22 meters or more! There's no climbing or stick throwing involved so, you are unlikely to injure yourself or damage your drone. You can also use it, where permitted, for catching small live baits! It's made by a well known company called Garbalino and is listed as the 22 meter novice pole. It's stiff but forgiving action simply invites you to attach a single size eight barbless treble to the tip's rig mount, obviously without elastic, and gently explore the tree's upper branches until a firm contact with the drone is achieved. Hay presto, the drone can be simply lowered to the ground, facilitating an easy recovery without the need to consider a second remortgage on the family's home. Sad old reborne angler that I am, in desperation I actually tried this and, it worked!
hello, the density of pike in an ordinary canal is incredible 😳 there is a canal not far from my house, you can come there with your mackerel and wait a long time for a bite!!! bring some supplies 😉 you’re lucky
I used to have a friend who was always up for fishing in conditions like this but he moved. Also, he caught a pike about 24 inches that had a pink belly. It must have been nothing on crayfish. Unfortunately, we didn't have a camera. New subscriber, best fishes!
Great video Chris, as always. Maybe you should fish with your brother more often, he brings you a lot of luck. So many bites on a wintery snowy day is just unreal! Keep it up 👍
Hey Chris, Brother, I really, really love the videos. No matter the weather you go out fishing 😂 Thank you for doing what I cannot do every single day😂
I'd say your theory is correct, conga eels do the same thing depending on if they're living in a wreck or on rocks/sand. Great video and watch that pike sh!t Chris.
Any update on your YPC bank win in the summer? you've not really mentioned it, what is next with that, EU Comp?. Love the videos, they keep me going through the tough winter, when I can't catch a single thing!
cant wait to someday be here wen u catch that 25lb slab pie some day love your videos man I've always find wen its cold or damp and raining those fish are hard to catch but wen u get them then its a big boy big baits in cold weather can produce that trophy
The colour of the pike depends on how much they use the tanning machine. Those that tan more tend to have darker flanks and back, those that don't are more silvery.
My mate caught an 18lb pike out of that marina over 40 years back ....saying that the water was nearly all gone as it had gone down the plughole !. Caught it on a roach of about a pound . Ended up in the papers and all that !
I thought colour related to how much light the fish gets. Pale for dark murky water or hiding under a boat. Colourful for clear water or lots of light. It’s just a guess though.
Ok lv channel but my wife and I try to guess weights of fish. Could you please state fish weight when caught. So I can claim win😂 or maybe not😮. Keep safe and keep videos coming. God bless.
I enjoy watching your videos, but I do wish that ye would all reduce the size of yer hooks, there is no need for hooks as big as some of the ones ye use. Regards Jack from Ireland
Lol. They get very slow during the cold. I find theres a lot more fight off them on tye lures in the warm. And watching them hit a top water like a great white certainly gets the blood pumpin!
does anyone know the best way to catch pike when the river is flooded currently the patch of river witham in my area is flooded and murky and I am struggling to catch pike on deadbaits?

Chris is on a different level when it comes to fishing 🤯💯

Plenty in places of East Anglia but more concentrated now in places
Lovely to see your brother sharing your passion!

G'day Chris, always good to see you and Dom fishing together . Awesome pikes both of you ,glad you got the drone back. All the best form down under mate 👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great video mate, your waters around your area seem to have a lot more fish than here, keep em coming.
Good to see a successful session during conditions many would avoid. Great pike 👍
what an absolutely amazing session, a real shame days like this don't come a little more frequently.
A good friend friend introduced me to the Ginger Fisherman and I'm sooo happy he did as I just love your fishing adventures 😊 some really nice fish bro, thank you for your upload 🙂

Great to see Dick ,Dom and yourself doing the bizz and not a snagged bro in sight 😂😂
They are roaming around the country at the moment still not settling the hook 😂😂
Lol!
Superb Chris thumbs up 👍🏼
In Sweden we call it light snowfall 😆 great vid!
I like the snow art.
Snow Fishin....magic...
Great video, thanks for sharing.

Massive gingerbeard!
Nice one guys!
Great video. Thank you.
Thanks 😊
Good content Chris, Drones are not conkers. In future It might dry out on a Radiator and using a hair dryer, don't tell the Misses.
love the channel...great vid as usual 👌👌
I honestly wouldn't send my drone up in the snow. Good on you, getting it back though👍👍
cant wait to someday be here wen u catch that 25lb slab pie some day love your videos man I've always find wen its cold or damp and raining those fish are hard to catch but wen u get them then its a big boy big baits in cold weather can produce that trophy

Do more videos with the brother challenges with each other for all types of fish they'd be brilliant video's 100%
LOVE THIS CHANNEL!
Your forecasters are more accurate than ours 😀
Fishing in member only areas I see 👀👀
The colour of the pike depends on how much they use the tanning machine. Those that tan more tend to have darker flanks and back, those that don't are more silvery.
Awesome video mate I'm going on a canal this weekend coming, any tips? On lures dead baiting etc
My mate caught an 18lb pike out of that marina over 40 years back ....saying that the water was nearly all gone as it had gone down the plughole !. Caught it on a roach of about a pound . Ended up in the papers and all that !
What's the fox rage coat like,is it warm?I'm thinking of getting the winter suit
I see dom's marked his peg 😂
Doubles only!
Smashed agian 👊🏻
Interesting what canal he's fishing? So tidy walkway, water clear
In lakes the colors might differ depending on where they chose to live, ie Deep or shallow and colors are normaly different depending on Malé/Female.
Nothing like a winter toothed torpedo...
You're way better than them two in Birmingham
I thought colour related to how much light the fish gets. Pale for dark murky water or hiding under a boat. Colourful for clear water or lots of light. It’s just a guess though.
great vid 👍
20 minutes 4 fish I’ve blanked every session this year
Did u ever go for the zander
Co - starring Dom good day
Hi gingerfisherman what canals do u fish has me 9 old son wants to try pike fishing
Ok lv channel but my wife and I try to guess weights of fish. Could you please state fish weight when caught. So I can claim win😂 or maybe not😮. Keep safe and keep videos coming.
God bless.
lets go
Big fan of your channel Chris, but I notice the music is louder than usual - makes it hard to hear you and that reel working. Thanks
I had the best days pike fishing in a blizzard on the Avon. Put 12 on the bank while the bloke in the next swim caught nothing. All on sprats
I'm so surprised your catching so many pike in the same area. How can the canal support so many pike all bunched together?
I enjoy watching your videos, but I do wish that ye would all reduce the size of yer hooks, there is no need for hooks as big as some of the ones ye use. Regards Jack from Ireland
I do not like catching pikes . They do not fight enough ….. it is just like pulling a big bag out of the water 😂🤣
Lol. They get very slow during the cold. I find theres a lot more fight off them on tye lures in the warm. And watching them hit a top water like a great white certainly gets the blood pumpin!
Ive been watching you for years and don't know Dom, have i missed something?
You don't go out with Dom because you have to edit out all the swearing . Nice to see you two out together in the snow , proper fishin is that
Please could I have your rig setup you were using?
Where is this canals?
does anyone know the best way to catch pike when the river is flooded currently the patch of river witham in my area is flooded and murky and I am struggling to catch pike on deadbaits?
Can we see a video of your float rig ect please
I always wonder does a fish understand it when a human spares its life and releases it back into the water?
👍👍🎣🎣👍👍
12lb 5oz after that😂
How many throws did it take to get your drone out of that tree? Lol
Your first fish had a big shit too mate
