Right now I walk across two feet of Georgian Bay ice to get my pike . Your shows help get me through the rest of winter until I can cast again ! Thanks Muchacho keep your hook in the water .
Nice catch mate👍🍻 I like your choice of bait. Big bait= big fish. I canoed and fished a Municipal drainage ditch emptying from a large wetland prairie marsh in central Manitoba Canada during mid summer. We saw a large number of big pike but only caught many small 12-24" pike (we call them hammer handles) that strangely, upon hitting would all immediately head straight to the banks. I found out why further up at the control gate where you could see 36"-45"+ fish by the dozens streaming through the shallows, constantly. I found out that small pike were the main food supply for the lunkers and would hide out in the bank reeds to avoid their elders. Number 1 bait for catching the lunkers turned out to be 12-18" pike. They wouldn't even touch large pike lures and bucktails. A local gent I met laughed at my amazement & said this is nothing, he claimed during spring spawn you could walk across the ditch😅. I fear he wasn't exaggerating, I kid you not, it was worthy of a mini-documentary on nature, let alone fishing. The variety and sheer number of birds ducks geese & hawks alone was worth the trip. I went back a couple years later and it was typical prairie dry weather cycle, completely bone dry. Apparently this little known and even less fished marsh is a major but erratic pike breeding area for the Assiniboine River. It's many square miles of marshy maze & very easy to get lost in as channels change drastically with fluctuating water levels & plant growth. Now that GPS is more accurate and reliable, I hope to go back and canoe the marsh before I'm no longer able, & remember to bring a camera along...
I've never caught a carp but I love the way they look especially like a mirror carp or something. For some reason I find their face and fat belly cute lol.
Isn't sea fishing boring?for me fishing on rivers, lakes and other things which are implied in frashwater are 5x better, its more fun, fish are more atractive and for me its you know, you dont have fish which u can't cach,in the sea is really different and in frashwater fish are sweeter and tastier taste,im saying every1 like something but thats just my opinion
Another great upload Chris, thanks. I've been using small pike as deadbaits since around 1986, when we saved euthanased pike from a trout river in N Ireland. They catch some mighty fine fish! Your last fish certainly looked heavier than 11lbs!!!!
Hi in from NI. Where do you recommend to catch big pike. I caught my first one today at lough mourne ioutside Carrick and then caught another 3 but were very small. Really enjoyed catching them though. Felt a lot different from trout
I don't understand the thumbs down, I'm guessing it's because you used a PIke, not sure if they still do, but bait companies use to farm small jack pike as specialist baits back in the late 90's, I remember a company up north selling them frozen packed in 2's....if you find a dead jack, no point in wasting it, use it, circle of life and all that, its one of the best baits there is for catch large pike... I have, like Chris used every bait you can think of, from rats, dead pigeons, I even caught pike on raw sausages years ago! nice one Chris!!!
We have Chain Pickerel where I live in MD USA. They’re related to Pike but much smaller. That looks like a blast!! You’ve inspired me to get my fishing gear out again. To much bad stuff on the news.
Pike fishing is so interesting , I have gone for about 7 sessions (all day ) trying to catch a pike with dead bait and a float we planked a few times but we have just caught out first golf pike about 9-10 pound , this is all because me and my brother watch your vids . Keep it up
What's going on Ginger Fisherman! New subscribers here! Those were some Nice Pike you caught with that Pike bait you rigged up! That's what I'm talkin about! Great video man! Keep on getting down!
Hello fisherman, not only are you a good fisherman but a good man as well, I watched your video when you took care of the pike that you caught, and you helped this fish with some sort of spray which i thought was great helping this good looking pike, a proper good thing to do, keep up your fishing videos. Brother Carl away
Gosh I love fishing with dead bait. It makes me feel like it's even more effective than live bait! Caught my pb Zander (maybe 3-4kg) on one. And some pike of course.
New to your channel, great to watch a proper sport fishing person, the way you treat the fish and catch and realize is the way all ppl who fish should act, sickins me when I see Dead fish mutalated on the bank, these ppl are just wrong and warped, best of Irish luck fishing in the Future ☘️🇮🇪
Small pike are a favourite food for large pike! They keep the numbers of small pike down, which is better for the other species in the river (or lake).
Interesting video again. That first big one looked like she had been a bigger fish, judging by the size of her head anyway, maybe had lost a bit of weight and condition due to that old mouth injury, but certainly looking better now. Thanks for sharing your session and keep up the good work. Cheers
Pike fight best during the late summer. Taking spinners and plugs with great enthusiasm. Winter pike fishing is by comparison a dire affair. Fish when the fish are feeding!!!
Thats a massive pike. Wow congrats. Ive yet to catch one. 32 years old. Walleye my biggest was 4 inch baby thats it. Ive always wanted to catch a monster pike
Once read an article many years ago by TV personality Chris Tarrant. Don't remember the exact details but he recalled having once caught quite a large pike in an Irish lake trolling with a 3lbs jack
Hey man nice video. Just a bit of RUclips amusement, if you turn on the c captions from 9.30 onwards you get applauds as you lift the fish out of the water.
I have been using them since watching Chris’s under water footage and had lots of success once you get used to not striking hard like with trebles. Wind down and very gently lift and in the scissor 100% of the time, in my experience anyway.
I remember catching a 4lb pike and as i got it near the bank a huge pike that looked about 30lb plus grabbed it and made a huge swirl and took it right out, i couldn't stop it, was like a train, spent about 3/4 of an hour playing it, then it dived with the pike so deep and snapped my line, was amazed. I just caught a 27lb one that morning, that felt like a 40lb do'er. I then caught another jack about 3 and half and used as bait, had to throw it out as couldn't cast with that weight. Big pike are ruthless haha.
Just brilliant Chris another Pike masterclass good angling bud.Just excellent bank side care and husbandry top notch I really wish people would follow your un hooking and care of the fish.Just wondered if you knew a top old piker back in the day called Clive Lovedale caught a 39lb Pike on a 5lb Pike Livebait in Knipton .He like you was very observant and noticed on a lure session many jack's 5/6lb had big bite marks on them.He made a rig up and upgraded all the standard kit to catch the big one.I believe he used a gaff to land the fish under the chin un harmed. All the best stay safe.Tony

Another good video Chris 👍👍. You never strike when using Circle hooks, just tighten down . I had a right bollocking off a skipper whilst Tope fishing, we'd been out for a few hours and had nothing, I got a good run and in the excitement I struck, only to pull the bait from its mouth. Haven't done it since 🙈🙈🙈👍👍
Awesome channel , love your videos, I am going to fish my local river this weekend , and it’s going to be my first time pike fishing, I have experience catching many other species back in South Africa but this will be my first attempt for pike, I have learnt a lot watching your videos, I would like to know what size circle hooks you recommend and what braid are you using? Keep up the great work !
Top vid that. You have some great waters where you are. Here in Manchester, there are a few decent waters but no real decent rivers. The river Irwell behind my house has a few but they are well spread out. Always enjoy your vids, keep it up.
The most important parts of fishing are to respect the fish and their treatment as much as possible in fishing context and respect the waterways, clean up after yourself and remove any waste/rubbish you find from previous idiots! I always check over fish I catch, remove any parasites and treat any wounds and ALWAYS take home any rubbish/ discarded tackle I find. If all of us fishermen do this we’ll have healthy fish stock and healthy waters ! Like your videos 👍
Great video. I'm gonna give pike fishing a go in a month or so. I've never done it and will probably try spinning. Personally, I'd never use a livebait, I just don't like the idea of it. I also would never use a course deadbait either, I never kill any fish. I'd buy sea fish from the local Mozzers to try deadbaiting. Anyway, these vids are great and certainly fill me with the hope that I might be able to break my pike duck :)
Don't think you need big baits for big pike. I caught my PB 3 months ago (Although small compared to many other's PBS, 16.5lb measuring 78cm from top to bottom. Caught on the smallest spinner I own on the lightest rod (5-10g) I own, Was literally packing up after a day with only 1 pike strike breach on a top water mouse previously and no other fish. Just wanted a couple of small perch so I could go home happy. Thought I got caught in weed as the fish didn't fight at all and felt just like a dead weight. Also you mentioned not dead baiting because you don't want to kill the fish, that's fair enough. Sometimes things happen though. I've had dead fish float down the river which i've managed to net and use, i've also had a greedy perch that insisted on swallowing hooks so deep it's irretrievable. In these cases, You may feel it better to use the fish to your advantage rather than simply throwing it back

This is awesome, but water full of pikes is necessary in this case. I don't think a pike's gonna migrate from far away just cause they smell such a fish, are they?
Was that a hint of a strike on the first take, hence it didn't end up with a hook up? (not being sarcy, I'm sticking to circle hooks myself now, so are most pikers I know)
