One travel tip you forgot is always bring Gustavo with you. I've heard his mere presence causes businesses to lower their prices out of respect. He is a man of the people after all!
Great tips, Most of us should know most of this. Yes it's obvious she is privileged. Most 22 year olds haven't lived long enough or have been able to land a good enough job to have any savings to travel the world (over 50 countries!!!!). I'm sure if She had the world on her shoulders (responsibilities, children, rent, mortgage, etc....) the tune would be different. But it doesn't matter. Anyone who lets it bother them please stop hating. because if the shoe was on the other foot it would be OK then. This girl is working HARD putting out all of these videos (AND separate podcasts if your not aware - go premium and get the RSS podcasts info). It takes a LOT of planning and work get these videos out for us (trust me, been doing it for almost 20 years now) , and she is doing the WORLD A HUGE SERVICE. So please less hate and more love and respect for this young lady. At 22 she is well on her way to being super successful and it will be from her hard work (not her parents) and you have to respect that! with that being said i was able to understand most of that and im on super-beginner vids. Something must be working!! WOOT WOOT!!!! (and goodness she is sooo beautiful)
I travelled a lot in Asia (particularly India). It was much cheaper to turn up and haggle with guest houses than to book in advance. They know foreigners won't expect accommodation to be as cheap as it can be, so they charge more online.
I’m actually interested to hear about how inflation impacted spending habits among those in Argentina. I’ve read a bit and it seems like vacation would be something people would spend money on before letting it sit in the bank losing value.
A lot of Americans and non Europeans like myself don’t know how cheap it is to get around Europe especially once you’re inside of it, you can hop to multiple countries and it’s super affordable. Switzerland is the only European nation my wallet starts hurting badly in. It’s also expensive for Australians because we’re so damn far away from everything.
Like anything, spending money on travel is a matter of priorities. Our family (2 young kids) recently finished 6 months of travel - an incredible family adventure. Many of our peers wonder how we could afford it, and it’s basically we live in a more modest house, and drive 1 older car (rather than multiple newish cars). If we had bought a new Jeep 5-10 year ago for example, and made no other lifestyle changes, that would’ve cost the same or more than our entire 6 months traveling. We are incredible privileged to live in a country with higher incomes (the US) on average, and to be healthy etc. Totally understand this is completely out of reach for many, but I also see those with high incomes say that travel is out of reach these days, which it isn’t. I’m sure Agustina is privileged in many ways, but also probably prioritizes travel over other things her peers would spend money on.
so.. is it priorities or privilege? Argentina's avarage salary (according to Wikipedia, at least) is 10 times less than the US. The average Argentinian sadly can barely leave their country.
@@TsavoTouring thanks! We spent a few months in Europe (mostly Spain, but also France, Belgium, Portugal, Netherlands) and then our second “phase” was a few weeks each in NZ, Australia, Thailand, and Japan. Our fam’s fav places were Spain, Thailand and NZ.
@@Krassy10Good question! - probably a bit of both. I’m sure you’re right that most Argentinians can’t do what she’s doing, but at the same time I’m very impressed by everything she is accomplishing (including her knowledge on alot of topics) regardless of the privilege she may have.
The average American has very little vacation time, lives paycheck to paycheck, has just $600 saved in cash, and has over $6000 in credit card debt. This is the average American -- half are worse-off. There are of course ways to make travel cheaper, and Agustina has some good tips, but global travel is a luxury nearly unimaginable to many people in the richest country on earth (I don't know as much about other countries so can't comment). To be able to spend even $1000 on a vacation is a huge privilege; traveling to dozens of countries and taking multiple trips per year is something that very few people are able to do.
I went to Guatemala last year. The problem with most Americans is that we sattle ourselves with a lot of debt for school, houses, cars, etc. If you eliminate what it means to be average in the U.S. doors will open and close. I didn't think my family could function without two cars, turns out we could and that 300 - 600 monthly car payment and insurance bill disappear.
These statistics are incorrect. 1. The median American household has $8000 in savings, not $600. 2. $6000 in credit card debt is the average, not the median - it's heavily skewed by small numbers of people with tons of debt.
The limited vacation time is accurate, but everything else is a wild exaggeration. There is a huge swath of middle class in the USA that spends a ton of money on random shit. Americans have larger houses, more expensive cars, more boats, motorcycles, RVs, electronics and other random shit than almost anywhere else on the planet.

What she talked about in the video are basic money saving practices in my opinion. Sure, you've got to be rich to book a hotel on the day you're staying, but the amount of travels she has done still adds up, so it's still not something that an average 22-years-old can afford. She did talk about this topic in another video but it's a premium one so I haven't been able to watch it yet. She still can't deny that she is privileged, but no one expects her to do so. However, it's silly to assume that Gustavo is an airport owner in my opinion. :D Anyway, these are my thoughts, I don't intend to pry into her finances, I just wish her to keep her work up and to be able to produce more amazing content for us.
When I saw the title I thought “Don’t feel you need to explain yourself to us”. There are a lot of savings you can make as mentioned but the distances & frequency she travels make it impossible to be cheap & that’s before the accommodation, excursions, entrance fees or restaurants we see her at! she or her family are financially comfortable and that is fine! Many of us strive to achieve that privilege in life, don’t be jealous or hate! “Rich” is relative and financial comfort doesn’t mean she’s a millionaire though the teasing is a funny ongoing joke when done in good spirit! I love that she travels a lot with her dad- sharing interests and beautiful moments & memories is priceless!
I think also the time this all takes which can't be maintained if at thus age you're worried about going to college and having a part time job. You can still travel here and there but constant travel is gonna take a lot of disposable money and free time.
With a premium subscription to Dreaming Spanish, you can see the MANY series Agustina has created of her travel diaries. So yes, she’s very much working while she’s traveling. This video is a little bit out of my understanding range, so I didn't catch everything, but she has definitely mentioned family trips quite a bit in the beginner videos. I imagine that family trips and her making the travel vlogs make traveling much more accessible. With that said, traveling doesn't necessarily need to be very expensive. I have a friend that has traveled to many countries and isn't wealthy by any means, she just prioritizes vacations and puts nearly all her money towards traveling.
As an Argentinian, I don't need to know Agustina to tell she's filthy rich. This doesn't take away her merits of finding out how to do it cheaper, or her hard work earning her good money... but it's the privileges she doesn't mention the ones playing a bigger role here. Namely: being born rich, getting the best education, the best healthcare, and having tons of filthy, filthy rich friends and acquaintances who all look after each other. 😊
@@bajolunapod True, but there's nothing filthy about being rich. Some people get the opportunity, or the accident of birth. Regardless, making the best of your life circumstances and appreciating all decent people are characteristics of a wise person.
Save up… take some time off… buy a motorcycle and ride south. We have a few friends who have done this and their adventures and experiences are incredible. And they really don’t spend that much money day to day.
It took me a while to figure out what "Carrión" meant. This was how the subtitles spelled it. I assume this means "carry on" as in carry on luggage. This is interesting because it seems like this is an actual Spanish term that doesn't quite sound like the English original from which it is derived. The stress is in the wrong place.
Also annual leave is a limiting factor from a workplace perspective lol. Good for Agus to get her travelling in before she wants to commit to a possibly less flexible job
