    Thank you for the video !
    I have similar problem with my Citroen c4 coupe (2005) with Al4 transmission.
    My car makes a strong “bang” and it drops to the third gear and limp mode lights on dashboard.
    I have bought a diagnostic tool and watched the transmission oil temperature, I noticed when the oil is warm ( let’s say > 50 degree ) the problem doesn’t happen, when I drive it cold, it does happen on every day in the winter.
    I already did one partial oil change but it didn’t solve the problem.
    The problem happens only when the transmission oil is not warm enough.
    Do you know if changing the solenoid will help ?

    • @MrNiceGuy94
      @MrNiceGuy94  Год назад +2

      @Bibo Bibi Hello, I think it may solve your problem. If you have already changed your gearbox oil I assume you are not afraid of DIY work. So if you follow the steps in the video you can change your solenoids yourself, it is not that difficult at all. The solenoids cost around £50 for two. So you can save the money on labour. And in the end result you will see if it has solved the issue.

      I think if you have the same gearbox as in this one, the solenoids should be the same as well. I haven't seen different one online for this gearbox. Only from different brands at different pricepoint. I think the OEM is the Borg Warner which is the most expensive. However I don't have any part numbers.

    After changing the solenoids, do you have to reprogram the ECU ?

    • @MrNiceGuy94
      @MrNiceGuy94  2 года назад +6

      Hello, no you don't have to reprogram the ECU. Only thing you could do is to tell the ECU that you have replaced the oil in the gearbox, that would be the proper procedure, however people don't really do it.
      Make sure that your gear selector works properly, I mean switch into every gear and check if it does what it is meant to do, meaning D-going forward R-reverse N-neutral.
      Hope I could help ;)

    Thanks for a great video. I have a Peugeot 308 T9 Turbo that was slipping gears and then going into limp mode. I’m not mechanically minded but managed to follow this along mostly. I felt confident that I’d done everything but now it doesn’t engage any gears when shifting. I suspect it must be the engagement of the rod into the pin, although I was very sure I got it. I don’t think I can do that again 😥. Anyway, it was a good video and hope others take more care with the control rod. All the best to anyway who gives a go.

    • @MrNiceGuy94
      @MrNiceGuy94  Год назад

      All you have to do is to make sure that the rod which moves the gears is in correct position when reassembling the things. I would say try it one more time.

    • @gavinm2339
      @gavinm2339 Год назад +1

      @@MrNiceGuy94 - Thanks for the encouragement. I pulled the front of the car back off and removed the gearbox cover and found that the rod was engaged with the pin so that wasn't the problem after all. The rod would not move freely as it was securely engaged by the pin above it. The only thing different I could see in your video is the bar that you install toward the end of the process - you have the bar tilted down so that the top touches the cog behind it. I had mine more parallel (a bit hard to explain). I loosened the bolt and then tilted the bar down to the same angle as yours - however I'm not confident that is going to fix anything. I have bolted the cover plate back on, but not put everything back together yet and I'm a bit unsure what to do next. I can put it all back together but I don't think changing the angle of the bar is going to solve the problem of not engaging gears. I would greatly appreciate you have any suggestions or advice that you have. I'm a bit lost now.
      I have read some articles that talk about needing to update the gearbox ECU software (?) if the solenoids are newer type - if that's the case I'm truly screwed as I have no idea how I would get that done.
      Solenoids used are www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B082YWKCKD/

      Apologies for the length and number of comments. I had another look and I think I over tightened the bolt on the roller spring bar. It was so tense that I could not move it back. I retightened it firmly and it seemed to have some spring without being loose. I did some research that suggests the bolts should be tightened to 7.5 nm (which is not a lot). Do you have any advice on this? Thanks.

    Hello MrNiceGuy, this is an excellent and pedagogical video. I have learned a lot about the DP0 and its valve body.. I own a DP0 gearbox. The problem it has is the following: when I accelerate the engine to pick up more speed, if I do it smoothly the gearbox works correctly, but if I accelerate harder, for example, to climb a road bridge, the gearbox goes into limp mode (stays in 3rd gear) it also happens when I go up a normal hill, I have to do it at maximum 40 Kmts/h to avoid the limp mode. what do you think is that fault?

    • @MrNiceGuy94
      @MrNiceGuy94  2 года назад +6

      Wow,firstly let me thank you for your nice words 😉 However this video is far from excellent,I am preparing another version of this where the things and the steps are explained in depth and it will has a voiceover as well.
      So to your problem,my guess is that 95% you have the same issue as in this video.
      I would read the codes first and would be looking for pressure related error in your gearbox ecu. The job itself is fairly easy,just make sure that you follow the steps in the video,especially when you are fitting back the gear selector lever.
      You will need to buy the solenoids(2x£40 borg warner) 4litres of automatic transmission oil(£25) and a few litres of coolant. (£20)
      If you do the job yourself you can save anywhere from £400 to £600 in labour.
      If you have any further questions feel free to ask! 😉

    Hi mate. Excellent video. I took apart my Clio gearbox valvebody and cleaned and replaced both solenoids with genuine Renault valves and genuine oil.
    I have a few questions.
    How much oil should typically go back into it and is there such a thing as overfilling it as I've seen other videos of people filling until it starts to drip out?
    I added 4 litres and the gearbox seem to swallow the lot.
    You added the oil and then went back under and took out some oil using the first plug. Why is this?
    Also, my gearbox seems to work smoother somewhat, gearstick shifts noticeably smoother. However, when trying to move off in first gear from standstill if I accelerate harsh it lurches forwards, otherwise it's fine. The other gears change much smoother now although do still feel some jerks. Probably age related as it has covered over 150k miles now. Could the jerks be related to not enough oil?
    Should I clear the fault codes on the ECU? In another comment you mentioned clearing the gearbox oil change. Would that make the gearbox change in anyway or is that just formality?
    Thanks in advance. Sorry for the essay 😁

    • @MrNiceGuy94
      @MrNiceGuy94  Год назад +1

      Thank you for your kind words! I am glad that you like the video and it helped you.
      So now, to answer your questions:
      I can't exactly remember how much oil goes into the gearbox, however I have a video on where I show how much I did put in and also how to level the gearbox fluid.
      ruclips.net/video/MVpt7TbH61s/видео.html
      After the repair you need to do the levelling process as well. Also it is worth letting the ECU know that you have changed the oil in the gearbox, although I don't think that anything will happen if you don't do so.
      Well, your can jerking can be caused by not enough oil in the gearbox but also as you said it can be related to the age of the gearbox as well.
      I hope it helped. However if you have any further questions, feel free to ask them.

      What I would do is to change the 2 solenoids and the transmission fluid and see if it fixes the issue. It is pretty doable,and it would cost around £80 for parts. However at first I would plug it on a scantool and check the live data,especially the grarbox oil pressure. As far as I know it should be around 2.7bar,you should check if there is a huge difference,and monitor it for a while to see if it changes at all,if it makes any sense.
      It may be the case that your transmission oil filter is clogged,but to replace that you need to remove the whole gearbox I believe. So you don't really want it to be the issue.

      @Mix Tube Hi and thanks for your comment. I have heard that people after replacing the solenoids and the transmission fluid as well experiencing the same issues as you few months after.
      The problem is that this gearbox is terrible and probably is going out.
      I have seen one video on RUclips where one shop had a similar issue with one of their customer's car. What they did is that they converted the car to manual after spending a lot of money on the gearbox to fix it. At the end they had to do it, because they couldn't find any solution to fix the gearbox. So I am guessing you will need a new gearbox soon.
      Do you have access to a scan tool? Could you pull the codes? So maybe I can give you insights what you could do in order to fix you problem ;)

    Hi THANKS FOR THE VIDEO !!!.... (i'm in trouble)..... I own a Citroen C5 auto 2003 ...jammed in PARK
    .
    The car is an estate and in brilliant condition and when i learn to do youtube this will be my first video
    .
    I bought the car in 2020 and is in great condition ... it had a new battery .the alternator wasn't charging and is still not !
    .
    I taxed and left the car and understand the problem but i cant "cheat" it to get out of park !
    .
    It moves from "P" then "clicks" so i cant get reverse
    .
    I hear a buzzing noise by the brake fluid resiviuor (cant spell it).... and i think that little ABS motor needs to be up to pressure before it will allow "R-N-D" etc...... (it's not 13.8 volts)
    .
    The release from "P" is just a primary circuit and just makes the small black relay "click" behind the glove box ..... but it's matching relay (they are on the bulkhead from the inside) stays "duff" as feed only arrives to that 2nd relay once the brakes are up to pressure.
    .
    (all the white wires to the relay housing go nowhere)
    .
    The inhibitor is just a white plastic "rocker" on the drivers side (RHD) by the cigerette lighter ... which i dont mind destroying
    .
    Its a great car and i love it ... (its a grey estate) but better when it goes ...lol !
    .

      Well,to be honest I am not expert in car electronics. Usually I read or look up something if I need to.
      So to solve your problem. The absolutely first thing I would do is to pull the codes from the ECU. Then the second question,when did the problems start to arise? Was the car like this when you bought it?
      And lastly, can't it be your brake pedal switch? I replaced one on this very car earlier in the video,they can be problematic and if I am correct I think they are a quite common fault on these cars.
      Or if anyone disassembled the valve body on the gearbox they might have not connected the gear selector lever properly and that's why it is not engaging the gears.
      I hope I could help somewhat. Let me know later, I am very curious what the issue was.

      @Vidoje Arsic Hello mate, usually when it stays or let the car run only in 3rd gear that's the limp. The ecu puts the gearbox into it to prevent any internal damage to happen to the gearbox.
      You may have the solenoids gone wrong, but I can't confirm it 100% sure. You would need to have it checked by someone.
      Or if you are handy, you can try to replace the solenoids yourself. They cost only around £60 in parts.
