Wrong about fiber. There is no requirement for fiber. There is zero scientific evidence showing its benefit. Please do a deep dive on fiber before pushing it.
There are plenty of non-sugar, non-carb powder Whey Proteins out there, and can make it so much easier for some to get the protein in. Yes, I agree, as much naturally as you can... but for some that is a lot of food.
When i was in the hospital with covid i asked for water. The nurses would bring me a tiny dixie cup which probably holds an ounce of water. I swear between that and the hospital food they were trying to kill me.
The Nazi Health Service chooses it's infiltrators and unqualified but low payed workers with care. If you were in the Police you are IN! If you have a mean streak they will be interested in you. If you are totally without vocation, just seeing a paycheck there is a space for you. If you are DEI it's a shoo in. We don't want foreign bodies in a place of healing. I work at hospitals....yup, you were right...the elderly are sent to the "dying" rooms.... If you are elderly, get your family to compensate if possible with food and water.
Every hospital I have ever been to brings a pitcher of water and a medium sized cup. UNLESS they are treating something by restricting water OR trying to kill you.. ??, I s'pose that can be.. just TELL THEM TO BRING YOU A PITCHER IF WATER & ICE WITH A BIGGER CUP. Don't ASK, "why are you giving me tiny amounts of water"?, TELL THEM WHAT YOU WANT. They're not God's or bosses. 😊😊
You would like my doctor. I am in my eighties. She stopped some of my meds. She told me at my age I should stop worrying about my blood pressure and concentrate on enjoying myself and having fun. She gave me a huge talking to about increasing protein in my diet and exercising daily. One bit of advice she gave that made a huge difference was to use whatever mobility aids will keep me moving. We bought a fancy outdoor suitable walker with a seat so I could go for a kilometre walk every day and rest as needed. I can now bend over and pick things up off the floor and walk around my home without the walker. I can even go up and down stairs again. I am now strong enough I don't need to stop and have rests on my daily walk. Life is much better now. It's never too late to start.
Thank you for sharing. I'm especially glad she took you off your blood pressure meds. IMO, US citizens depend way too much on meds. Post cancer, I'm not on ANY meds. There are so many natural ways to cure ourselves through self-massage, reflexology, exercise, eating more of what's natural free of chemicals, and monitoring our thoughts. Hi there. I turned 80 in October and rarely see seniors like us make comments. So good for you. I did like your doctor's advice but heh, we can go for 90. I swim 4 hours a week at my local recreation center, list 45 pounds following a lower carbohydrate diet and feel marvellous. Despite having rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Dhand the main reason that older people don't drink enough fluid is to reduce trips to the toilet. Older folks often don't get enough sleep due to urination issues. They think if they don't drink as much they can sleep the night through.
That can be offset by drinking most earlier, & not drinking for about 3 hours before bed. Also, there are other missing, vital vitamins & minerals that can contribute to this issue.
I was going to say the exact same thing. Even stopping drinking earlier still means you end up with many toilet breaks during the day. There is a villain causing excessive urination. Caffeine. Drinking even one cup a day will result in excessive urination. As an experiment I stopped drinking coffee...I slept through the night. Now, I still drink coffee and endure three toilet breaks at night. Coffee? Sleep? Afternoon siesta helps.

I completely changed my diet six months ago based on nationally recommended guidelines, but it only made my health worse. It wasn’t until I read 'The 23 Former Doctor Truths' that I realized doing the opposite of what the government advises can actually make a difference. No wonder the doctor who wrote it left their career-speaking the truth often challenges the system!
My PCP has warned me for years not to eat more than 2 eggs a week. I have no contraindications for this “advice” which I ignore. I eat eggs every day. I will be 80 in a few months and feel no different than I felt when I was 60. I love your videos and your common sense advice doctor.
Don't discount luck in that outcome. Until 3 years ago (I'm 73), I was hiking miles every day. But a rare spinal condition unrelated to diet or anything else came along and now I can hardly walk. You're lucky.

You're right about about everything you said Dr. Saneel Dhand! Right before covid I had to have surgery on my eye which disqualified me from my full-time job driving a commercial vehicle. So I took early retirement at 62. Best decision I ever made! After I recover from my surgery I decided I was going to do something about my health. Fortunately I have been a regular exercise for most of my life. I decided I was not going to sit around twiddling my thumbs so I started doing exercises. Rollerblading, ice skating, light resistance training. Also I added more meat and vegetables and eliminated all processed foods. I've been doing this for 4 years now and I recently joined a HNA men's hockey league. I have proven to myself that you do not have to give up on life and you can still do the things that you love! Dedication and persistence is the key!!
That’s interesting , there were a few years I was drinking a certain brand of coffee Bustelo that I had to pee every hour of the day. Very dehydrating. Finally I switched brands and got control of my bladder back overnight

83 year old dude here. The worst thing I've seen among all my friends, who are no longer here, is drinking booze of any sort. Those who don't all seem to be doing fine. I think science knows this but it is such a huge business, plus the total failure involved in banning alcohol, has prevented any sort of honest warnings about it. Thank you for all your work.

I am low income, only weigh 83, so I pretty much eat what I can get, but ALWAYS read labels. With mobility & vision issues, I admit I eat several heat & eat frozen meals. Best thing I do, although most aren’t very nutritious, is check ingredients & nutrition labels bc my back is to the wall since health issues too me down to 65 lbs before having a bad gallbladder removed & 3 strokes, but have finally made it back up to 83 lbs. learned that gaining pounds is as hard as losing them, so if you have just a few extra pounds, don’t sweat it bc you may need them. I have never had weight issues, but wish I had had a few extra pounds when I became the shrinking woman lol. Thank you for your always welcome & appreciated advice.
As a dietitian, I approve of this message. I would add reduce sugar intake. People slowly become insulin resistant, not overnight. Your labs won't show until too late.

I am 68 years old . 3 years ago I was diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome and was told I needed a pacemaker. My brother in Florida suggested I go on a whole food plant-based diet. As recommended by Dr Caldwell esselstyn of the Cleveland clinic cardiac diet. My palpitations and afib stopped in 5 days and I avoided a pacemaker
Just read in NIH that afib causes cancer. I love my meat cardio inversion on Monday and see if i have cancer on Tuesday..it's always something but God is so good and in control.
I think minimising sugar has higher priority over increasing fibre, and while you mentioned fibre sensitivity aside, i think a lot of people don't even realise fibre is causing them trouble because its always pushed as a health food, so the connection is not made. I eliminated fibre and healed all my reflux and G.I. inflammation problems. It wasn't deliberate, i wasn't targeting fibre, it was an accidental outcome of trialling the carnivore diet. I realised only in hindsight what a bugger fibre is for me. Doctors advise "more fibre" for constipation when they shouldn't. Worse even, when a blockage is likely already present, stupidly adding more material to the blockage. My mother has Parkinsons and was constipated for years with low G.I. motility until i interceded and drastically cut down fibrous foods, eliminated the metamucil, macrogol and laxatives (all of which her geriatrician had prescribed following the standard "more fibre" consensis). I added probiotics to help break down remaining fibre, added MCT oil and lots of butter. Now she has regular movements, no more yo-yo between constipation and laxative cycles. The Parkinsons nurse wanted to know how i fixed my mother's long term constipation problem and will advise other patients to try the same. The fibre-pushing geriatrician has already lost two patients to blockages.
In other words ? ALL the good stuff your Mum encouraged you to eat. I eat what I ate as a kid - those listed items and try to stay away from fast food or processed food, for the most part. My Mum knew what was healthy - the average 'doctor' ? Not so much..... Healthy as a horse, me ! :)
Not really. There is no need for animal products. I am 71, slim, very healthy, no medications. I am plant based (vegan). Oh I forgot to mention my 85 year old friend, a male. He's the same as I am, plus he goes dancing every weekend. He does the Peacock daily also.
Didnt know about sarcopenia untill around 2 yrs ago. I was in my Doctor's office and he just said "your wasting away eat more" as he was through with visit walking out the door. Wish he had told me as i didnt know about eating more protein ect. Thank you for the information. ❤
I live a meat based ultra low carb lifestyle and am thriving at 70. I have been following WOE for 5 years. I've cut out all highly processed foods, added sugars, unnatural seed oils, and wheat products.
I’m 67. Carnivore for two years now. I’m way stronger and arthritis free now. Two years ago I was weaker, muscle and joint pain, weird neurological issues in my arm, gas and bloating. Fiber is not good for us. Also this doc doesn’t talk about fat which is crucial. Our brains are fat and cholesterol. He’s not on the right track.

Im 62. I was vegetarian for 5 years, eating a lot of nuts and organic fruit and veg. I got sicker and sicker. I changed to Carnivore diet 8 months ago and feel like I’m 30 again. All my health problems are gone and I am back to my youthful weight.
I was vegan for several years and did very poorly. It may work for some people but it made me progressively weaker and starving. I was in my 20's then, now 77 and doing very well on no junk food and sensible diet.
I’m 77 and was Keto for 6 months and switched to almost carnivore. Only exceptions are raw spinach and avocados. Haul wood in, and very active now. Feel better than in the last 20 years.
My experience, being a vegetarian for most of my adulthood even up to 70. My energy level was going down and I tried all the veg diet, but nothing helped. Now changing to a healthy meatarian diet. Improvement energy level, increases by proper protein intake. I told all that it's my life now against animal life , if I need to survive. Sorry I chose my health. It’s good to add a pinch of sea salt to 8 ounces of water. Helps the body absorb it better. A good calculation for water is half of body weight in ounces per day. 150/2=75 ounces per day
I am 69 and weigh 67 kg. I try and get at least 100g of protein daily, and the same applies to fat; 100g+. I try and keep the carbs below 30g. I do not meet the daily fiber requirements daily. I do drink lots of water every day.
I turned 65 today! I’m pleased to see that I’m consuming all 3 fully every day! Maybe that’s why people are surprised when they learn my age. I also work out in the yard every day even 37* and very windy day like today! The sun was bright too … vitamin D! Thank you Dr Dhand!
To help out the "fiber and hydration" issues, freeze fruit and put it into your water to keep it cool, add natural fruit juice flavoring, and eat it afterward for the fiber. In example: Grapes or cherries pulled off their stems, berries of all types, or cut up apples/nectarines and similar fruit make excellent "ice cubes" and can be tossed into a bag/container and put into the freezer. It's easier to eat seedless fruit instead of having to spit out the seeds when you sit down to drink your water, but it's okay if the seeds remain (think cherries or prunes) until you eat the fruit. Citrus fruit like lemon, lime, orange, or grapefruit (check to see if grapefruit doesn't interfere with your medications), should be cut up to help release the fruit juices as it melts or take the peeled segments and freeze them whole and then break/cut apart before placing into your water. You can often find bags of frozen fruit in the grocery store if you don't like anything that is currently in season. I like the antioxidants I find in cherries, blueberries and strawberries, and they're easily found alone or in berry mixes in the frozen section at my grocery store. Sometimes it might take a few glasses of water before the fruit is soft enough to eat. This is good because you usually need to drink more water than you need to eat fiber. If it's a special event where alcohol is expected, surprise family/friends by adding frozen green seedless grapes to white wine and frozen red seedless grapes to red wine. Other frozen fruits might pair well with other alcohols. I like frozen peaches with some of the harder alcohols. I like Asian alcohol like Sake (Japan) and Soju (South Korea) and while you can find them already fruit flavored, it looks even better if you add matching frozen fruit like strawberry, peach, raspberry, blackberry, green grapes, or yuzu which tastes like a cross between a lemon and an orange (adding frozen sliced or broken segments of both lemon and orange would go well for yuzu flavored alcohol if you can't find actual yuzu, and you can make it more tart or sweet depending on how much of each you add or don't add). A Texas Margarita uses orange juice. A Japanese Margarita might use yuzu or a blend of oranges and lemons in a 2:1 ratio to keep it sweet or 1:1 ratio for tart. When I was pregnant, I used to order a Virgin Tequila Sunrise which was essentially orange juice, cranberry/pomegranate juice, and grenadine and the drink was indistinguishable from its alcoholic version. The grenadine is a syrup so it sinks to the bottom, but I like pom juice better than cranberry because it's less tart and straight cranberry juice can be super tart, but most cranberry juices have a significant amount of added sugar/syrup. You can also add frozen fruit to the (Virgin) Tequila Sunrise based on the juices you use in it; orange slices/segments, cranberries, pomegranate seeds. There are a few special ways to remove pomegranate seeds from the "ball" that make it easier than prying them out with your fingers--and I wish I had learned them while I still lived at a house with a fruiting pomegranate tree, but the internet didn't exist back then. Many alcohols are now coming out in fruit flavors, so it's easy to pair them up with same/similar fruit. It's better to get non-alcohol, virgin, or mock drinks, but if you're going to drink alcohol, don't forget to drink twice as much water and ask for a drink cover if you're in a public setting!!!
I drank lots of water but was still thirsty all the time. Started taking electrolyte mix and never thirsty again. 1 cup blueberries, 1 avocado, 1/4 tsp celtic salt, 1/2 cup lemon juice, 1 tbls apple cider vinegar. 5 cups water. Blend.
I have adopted a whole food plant based diet many years ago and at 73 I feel better than many much younger people. Beans are a win-win, packed with both protein and fibre!
@ianstuart5660 Maybe they just think they are doing well and probably do feel better than when they were eating a high carb processed food diet but in reality they aren't doing well metabolically like if they were eating a carnivore diet 😊

I just calculated the grams of protein, guessing my weight because I haven't weighed myself in decades. I am done eating for the day, and weigh about 57 kilos. Here's the thing - I had 59 grams of protein in total today, but I'm stuffed! If I add fiber, I couldn't eat it. Besides, I'm one of those who had the constipation/diarrhea issue all my life, and without fiber, I never have those problems now. I tried adding greens (arugula and field greens), and it just about ripped my guts out. So, I guess for me, it's no fiber. We are all different! Drinking too much black tea - that's an issue and I'm working on it, subbing out some ginger tea and water. Thank you, Doctor Dhand, for focusing on seniors. We need it. x Oh, and I eat yogurt and wild blueberries almost every day! :D
I never heard that you could have too much black tea. I drink a lot of tea, but I drink a wide variety - black, green, white, yellow, pu ehr (both ripe and raw) and oolong. Try some different varieties if you’re concerned about too much black. But stay away from the bagged garbage. Loose leaf is superior in flavor and healthy compounds.
@@kennethyoder9766 Yes, it's the bagged tea that's so bad, it has a ton of fluoride. I'm going to cut it out, and buy some loose tea in the new year. I really miss the tea of my childhood, Red Rose (Canada). I like oolong, green makes my stomach ill, and will try the others. We have a tea shop with so many types, I'm sure I can find them. @@sasharamirez2335 fiber is not essential or beneficial to the vast majority of humans. Doc has some cultural bias and lack of experience in the low carb world.
I'm 66 and workout vigorously at the gym every other day. Focusing on cardio and weights. 10 to 15 miles on a Stationary resistance machine. Turning up the resistance every mile and timing myself. I try and keep every mile under 4 minutes. I'm just trying to stay one step ahead of the undertaker, but it also helps control when you eat and what you eat.

Very good advice.........thanks! A little more advice: get out there and exercise daily.........walking, hiking, cycling.........whatever. Exercise will stimulate your appetite so that have the desire to consume the proper healthy foods necessary to satisfy that appetite. A win win situation. For the past 12 years I have successfully achieved a personal goal of cycling at least 5000 kms /year. I will soon turn 76 and thankfully enjoy good health. Proper diet and exercise works! (and no prescribed drugs!)
Totally agree about the protein, but fiber is a whole other thing. So many people with gut issues experience total healing once they get rid of the carbs and fiber. Many have to go strict carnivore but once they do their gut issues improve dramatically, or completely go away.
I'm on the no fibre fence, it blots me out and causes gas and constipation! The transformation I had after stopping dietary fibre and gluten was truly amazing.
Hydration is a tricky thing. Both coffee and tea DEhydrate and require at least one extra cup of water for every cup (of coffee/tea) taken. In addition, drinking water without added electrolytes can be dehydrating as well. Getting the water INSIDE the cell is imperative. If you drink water, and urinate rather quickly, true hydration isn't being achieved.

Often, when I watch your videos and listen to the useful information you impart, I'm gratified, because it aligns with my own common sense practices quite often. I still find your content very useful. I'll tell you a brief story. I had not been to the doctor in about four years (since before COVID) so I said, Meh, maybe I'll go to the doc. I had been dropped by my erstwhile doctor, but also she had changed to a different system. I got signed up, called and made sure my insurance covered annual check up type exams. Went to see her, we talked, etc, and I've received a bill of almost 300.00. That's MY portion, outside of what the insurance covered. What's the extra service that was not covered? She submitted a list of my supplements to the pharmacist to see if any of them were contra-indicated or had interactions. None of them did. Duh! I'm not an idiot! I did not want or need that, and now I've got this bill which I COULD HAVE put to faaaaaaar better use. SO ANGRY!!! It'll be another 4 years I expect, maybe more..... GRRRR....

For busy people: 1) 1g/kg of natural protein - meat, eggs, diary. No protein shakes. 2) Fiber intake if tolerated - 30g/day. 3) Hydration! - if no kidney issues or other issues that require low liquid intake - 2-2,5 liter per day. No sodas.

Doesn’t have to break the budget. I’m carnivore on fixed income. Eliminating breads, processed foods( anything in box or can) and salads leave enough where now you can afford better meats and eggs, bacon , butter(REAL butter) and hamburger( I buy 70% lean. ).
Protein..... yes meat, but there are other sources. I eat black beans and rice, unflavored Greek yogurt, eggs, nuts, peas and tuna, etc. I know there are issues with oxalates, etc BUT you have to find what works for you. Protein itself is not necessarily expensive, you just have to educate yourself and be selective. 😊
Plus ppl don’t even believe the amt of protein needed They think 60-75g is more than enough lol I’m 5-4 and old snd still need 100g roughly, daily. Every single day. Fatty meat, not beans & oatmeal. Red meat, not lifeless chicken breast & canned tuna w/no iron, fat etc.
To everything you said I would add Creatine. It is a supplement that helps with muscle building and recovering,fights sarcopenia,help with the brain problems many elderly face. I'm 66 yo and I do take creatine on a daily basis,I do exercise regularly. I have absolute no signs of sarcopenia.
@@yakncast7530 Accordingly to some researchers the body don't produce enough for what it needs...From my own experience that it is correct. At my age I do have more muscles than the majority of the men much younger than me and I say younger like on their 20s or 30s
I think nac is a form of creatine. The creatine on the market seems to had gone down in quality. Bone broth would be best, I think... if I am not mistaken.
Thanks for another great video Dr. Dhand! I am now 60 and very healthy and active with some phsyical limitations (old injuries). I see that I don't want to eat as much as I age. I try to get in enough protein and probably don't. To help, I use NOW organic pea protein in my homemade fruit shake in the morning. I will have a hard boiled egg during the day and raw organic almonds and some fruit. In the evening I will make some type of vegetable and organic chicken or salmon.
Looking at seaside photographs from the the 60,s posted on you tube, most people were quite slender so something about the 50,s diet must have been sensible, ie a balance of proteins and carbs. At 68 yrs of age active and on no medication and suffering from a chest infection I have just shopped and bought honey, sardines, soup, chicken noodles, polish garlic sausage, rice pudding and a tin of marshmellow flavoured stout. feel better already 😀.
Good doctor, I would love to hear what you have to say about the following: It's not only about how much protein you eat, but how well you can digest it. It's important not to EVER take drugs or anything to reduce your stomach acid, because that will put you at higher risk for food poisoning and pneumonia. Stomach acid is there for many reasons, and another very important reason is for digesting the nutrients out of all different types of foods, and especially vitamin B12 out of meat. B12 is a large molecule that is hard to break out, but it is absolutely necessary for short-term memory and making ATP, which is called Energy, in the body. If you can't make enough energy, you will eventually need a pacemaker. B12 PREVENTS short- term memory loss by protecting your nerve sheaths. And guess what?-- there is a 'point of no return' with low B12!😢 The deleterious effects of low-to-no B12 can actually cause death, as it did in my father and my grandmother, and it is a horrible, slow process. Since poor metabolism is part of the problem, be sure to supplement with 'Methyl B12', which your body will be able to readily use without having to "convert" it thru the methylation process. (If it doesn't say methyl B12 or methyl- cobalamin, it's not methyl B12, and you don't want it.) A good dose would be anywhere from 1,000 micrograms to 5,000 mcg.

There are plenty of non-sugar, non-carb powder Whey Proteins out there, and can make it so much easier for some to get the protein in. Yes, I agree, as much naturally as you can... but for some that is a lot of food.
When i was in the hospital with covid i asked for water. The nurses would bring me a tiny dixie cup which probably holds an ounce of water. I swear between that and the hospital food they were trying to kill me.

You would like my doctor. I am in my eighties. She stopped some of my meds. She told me at my age I should stop worrying about my blood pressure and concentrate on enjoying myself and having fun. She gave me a huge talking to about increasing protein in my diet and exercising daily. One bit of advice she gave that made a huge difference was to use whatever mobility aids will keep me moving. We bought a fancy outdoor suitable walker with a seat so I could go for a kilometre walk every day and rest as needed. I can now bend over and pick things up off the floor and walk around my home without the walker. I can even go up and down stairs again. I am now strong enough I don't need to stop and have rests on my daily walk. Life is much better now. It's never too late to start.

Hi there. I turned 80 in October and rarely see seniors like us make comments. So good for you. I did like your doctor's advice but heh, we can go for 90. I swim 4 hours a week at my local recreation center, list 45 pounds following a lower carbohydrate diet and feel marvellous. Despite having rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Dhand the main reason that older people don't drink enough fluid is to reduce trips to the toilet. Older folks often don't get enough sleep due to urination issues. They think if they don't drink as much they can sleep the night through.
That can be offset by drinking most earlier, & not drinking for about 3 hours before bed.
Also, there are other missing, vital vitamins & minerals that can contribute to this issue.

I was going to say the exact same thing. Even stopping drinking earlier still means you end up with many toilet breaks during the day. There is a villain causing excessive urination. Caffeine. Drinking even one cup a day will result in excessive urination. As an experiment I stopped drinking coffee...I slept through the night. Now, I still drink coffee and endure three toilet breaks at night. Coffee? Sleep? Afternoon siesta helps.

My PCP has warned me for years not to eat more than 2 eggs a week. I have no contraindications for this “advice” which I ignore. I eat eggs every day. I will be 80 in a few months and feel no different than I felt when I was 60. I love your videos and your common sense advice doctor.

Right before covid I had to have surgery on my eye which disqualified me from my full-time job driving a commercial vehicle.
So I took early retirement at 62.
Best decision I ever made!
After I recover from my surgery I decided I was going to do something about my health.
Fortunately I have been a regular exercise for most of my life.
I decided I was not going to sit around twiddling my thumbs so I started doing exercises. Rollerblading, ice skating, light resistance training. Also I added more meat and vegetables and eliminated all processed foods.
I've been doing this for 4 years now and I recently joined a HNA men's hockey league.
I have proven to myself that you do not have to give up on life and you can still do the things that you love!
Dedication and persistence is the key!!

That’s interesting , there were a few years I was drinking a certain brand of coffee Bustelo that I had to pee every hour of the day. Very dehydrating. Finally I switched brands and got control of my bladder back overnight

83 year old dude here. The worst thing I've seen among all my friends, who are no longer here, is drinking booze of any sort. Those who don't all seem to be doing fine. I think science knows this but it is such a huge business, plus the total failure involved in banning alcohol, has prevented any sort of honest warnings about it. Thank you for all your work.

I am low income, only weigh 83, so I pretty much eat what I can get, but ALWAYS read labels. With mobility & vision issues, I admit I eat several heat & eat frozen meals. Best thing I do, although most aren’t very nutritious, is check ingredients & nutrition labels bc my back is to the wall since health issues too me down to 65 lbs before having a bad gallbladder removed & 3 strokes, but have finally made it back up to 83 lbs. learned that gaining pounds is as hard as losing them, so if you have just a few extra pounds, don’t sweat it bc you may need them. I have never had weight issues, but wish I had had a few extra pounds when I became the shrinking woman lol.

As a dietitian, I approve of this message. I would add reduce sugar intake. People slowly become insulin resistant, not overnight. Your labs won't show until too late.
Better to leave processed sugar out altogether unless you have the occasional treat, not daily.
I drink water with a pinch of Celtic sea salt in it ( I also add a splash of hot water if it's too cold) as it helps the cells to absorb it better.

My brother in Florida suggested I go on a whole food plant-based diet. As recommended by Dr Caldwell esselstyn of the Cleveland clinic cardiac diet. My palpitations and afib stopped in 5 days and I avoided a pacemaker
Just read in NIH that afib causes cancer. I love my meat cardio inversion on Monday and see if i have cancer on Tuesday..it's always something but God is so good and in control.
I think minimising sugar has higher priority over increasing fibre, and while you mentioned fibre sensitivity aside, i think a lot of people don't even realise fibre is causing them trouble because its always pushed as a health food, so the connection is not made.
I eliminated fibre and healed all my reflux and G.I. inflammation problems. It wasn't deliberate, i wasn't targeting fibre, it was an accidental outcome of trialling the carnivore diet. I realised only in hindsight what a bugger fibre is for me.
Doctors advise "more fibre" for constipation when they shouldn't. Worse even, when a blockage is likely already present, stupidly adding more material to the blockage.
My mother has Parkinsons and was constipated for years with low G.I. motility until i interceded and drastically cut down fibrous foods, eliminated the metamucil, macrogol and laxatives (all of which her geriatrician had prescribed following the standard "more fibre" consensis). I added probiotics to help break down remaining fibre, added MCT oil and lots of butter. Now she has regular movements, no more yo-yo between constipation and laxative cycles. The Parkinsons nurse wanted to know how i fixed my mother's long term constipation problem and will advise other patients to try the same. The fibre-pushing geriatrician has already lost two patients to blockages.

Im 62. I was vegetarian for 5 years, eating a lot of nuts and organic fruit and veg. I got sicker and sicker. I changed to Carnivore diet 8 months ago and feel like I’m 30 again. All my health problems are gone and I am back to my youthful weight.

I was vegan for several years and did very poorly. It may work for some people but it made me progressively weaker and starving. I was in my 20's then, now 77 and doing very well on no junk food and sensible diet.
I’m 77 and was Keto for 6 months and switched to almost carnivore. Only exceptions are raw spinach and avocados. Haul wood in, and very active now. Feel better than in the last 20 years.
My experience, being a vegetarian for most of my adulthood even up to 70.
My energy level was going down and I tried all the veg diet, but nothing helped.
Now changing to a healthy meatarian diet. Improvement energy level, increases by proper protein intake.
I told all that it's my life now against animal life , if I need to survive.
Sorry I chose my health.

Yes for some vegan does not work. For me it has been fantastic. No health issues since changing only improvements. Everyone is different.
It’s good to add a pinch of sea salt to 8 ounces of water. Helps the body absorb it better. A good calculation for water is half of body weight in ounces per day. 150/2=75 ounces per day
I am 69 and weigh 67 kg. I try and get at least 100g of protein daily, and the same applies to fat; 100g+. I try and keep the carbs below 30g. I do not meet the daily fiber requirements daily. I do drink lots of water every day.

To help out the "fiber and hydration" issues, freeze fruit and put it into your water to keep it cool, add natural fruit juice flavoring, and eat it afterward for the fiber. In example: Grapes or cherries pulled off their stems, berries of all types, or cut up apples/nectarines and similar fruit make excellent "ice cubes" and can be tossed into a bag/container and put into the freezer. It's easier to eat seedless fruit instead of having to spit out the seeds when you sit down to drink your water, but it's okay if the seeds remain (think cherries or prunes) until you eat the fruit. Citrus fruit like lemon, lime, orange, or grapefruit (check to see if grapefruit doesn't interfere with your medications), should be cut up to help release the fruit juices as it melts or take the peeled segments and freeze them whole and then break/cut apart before placing into your water. You can often find bags of frozen fruit in the grocery store if you don't like anything that is currently in season. I like the antioxidants I find in cherries, blueberries and strawberries, and they're easily found alone or in berry mixes in the frozen section at my grocery store. Sometimes it might take a few glasses of water before the fruit is soft enough to eat. This is good because you usually need to drink more water than you need to eat fiber.
If it's a special event where alcohol is expected, surprise family/friends by adding frozen green seedless grapes to white wine and frozen red seedless grapes to red wine. Other frozen fruits might pair well with other alcohols. I like frozen peaches with some of the harder alcohols. I like Asian alcohol like Sake (Japan) and Soju (South Korea) and while you can find them already fruit flavored, it looks even better if you add matching frozen fruit like strawberry, peach, raspberry, blackberry, green grapes, or yuzu which tastes like a cross between a lemon and an orange (adding frozen sliced or broken segments of both lemon and orange would go well for yuzu flavored alcohol if you can't find actual yuzu, and you can make it more tart or sweet depending on how much of each you add or don't add). A Texas Margarita uses orange juice. A Japanese Margarita might use yuzu or a blend of oranges and lemons in a 2:1 ratio to keep it sweet or 1:1 ratio for tart. When I was pregnant, I used to order a Virgin Tequila Sunrise which was essentially orange juice, cranberry/pomegranate juice, and grenadine and the drink was indistinguishable from its alcoholic version. The grenadine is a syrup so it sinks to the bottom, but I like pom juice better than cranberry because it's less tart and straight cranberry juice can be super tart, but most cranberry juices have a significant amount of added sugar/syrup. You can also add frozen fruit to the (Virgin) Tequila Sunrise based on the juices you use in it; orange slices/segments, cranberries, pomegranate seeds. There are a few special ways to remove pomegranate seeds from the "ball" that make it easier than prying them out with your fingers--and I wish I had learned them while I still lived at a house with a fruiting pomegranate tree, but the internet didn't exist back then. Many alcohols are now coming out in fruit flavors, so it's easy to pair them up with same/similar fruit. It's better to get non-alcohol, virgin, or mock drinks, but if you're going to drink alcohol, don't forget to drink twice as much water and ask for a drink cover if you're in a public setting!!!
I drank lots of water but was still thirsty all the time. Started taking electrolyte mix and never thirsty again. 1 cup blueberries, 1 avocado, 1/4 tsp celtic salt, 1/2 cup lemon juice, 1 tbls apple cider vinegar. 5 cups water. Blend.

I just calculated the grams of protein, guessing my weight because I haven't weighed myself in decades. I am done eating for the day, and weigh about 57 kilos. Here's the thing - I had 59 grams of protein in total today, but I'm stuffed! If I add fiber, I couldn't eat it. Besides, I'm one of those who had the constipation/diarrhea issue all my life, and without fiber, I never have those problems now. I tried adding greens (arugula and field greens), and it just about ripped my guts out. So, I guess for me, it's no fiber. We are all different! Drinking too much black tea - that's an issue and I'm working on it, subbing out some ginger tea and water. Thank you, Doctor Dhand, for focusing on seniors. We need it. x

I never heard that you could have too much black tea. I drink a lot of tea, but I drink a wide variety - black, green, white, yellow, pu ehr (both ripe and raw) and oolong. Try some different varieties if you’re concerned about too much black. But stay away from the bagged garbage. Loose leaf is superior in flavor and healthy compounds.

I'm 66 and workout vigorously at the gym every other day. Focusing on cardio and weights. 10 to 15 miles on a Stationary resistance machine. Turning up the resistance every mile and timing myself. I try and keep every mile under 4 minutes. I'm just trying to stay one step ahead of the undertaker, but it also helps control when you eat and what you eat.

Thank you for giving the guide on protein in relation to weight. I hear all the time about eating more protein, but not given a good guidance to how much.

Very good advice.........thanks! A little more advice: get out there and exercise daily.........walking, hiking, cycling.........whatever. Exercise
will stimulate your appetite so that have the desire to consume the proper healthy foods necessary to satisfy that appetite. A win win situation. For the past 12 years I have successfully achieved a personal goal of cycling at least 5000 kms /year. I will soon turn 76 and thankfully enjoy good health. Proper diet and exercise works! (and no prescribed drugs!)

Totally agree about the protein, but fiber is a whole other thing. So many people with gut issues experience total healing once they get rid of the carbs and fiber. Many have to go strict carnivore but once they do their gut issues improve dramatically, or completely go away.

I'm on the no fibre fence, it blots me out and causes gas and constipation! The transformation I had after stopping dietary fibre and gluten was truly amazing.

Hydration is a tricky thing. Both coffee and tea DEhydrate and require at least one extra cup of water for every cup (of coffee/tea) taken. In addition, drinking water without added electrolytes can be dehydrating as well. Getting the water INSIDE the cell is imperative. If you drink water, and urinate rather quickly, true hydration isn't being achieved.

Often, when I watch your videos and listen to the useful information you impart, I'm gratified, because it aligns with my own common sense practices quite often. I still find your content very useful.
I'll tell you a brief story. I had not been to the doctor in about four years (since before COVID) so I said, Meh, maybe I'll go to the doc. I had been dropped by my erstwhile doctor, but also she had changed to a different system. I got signed up, called and made sure my insurance covered annual check up type exams. Went to see her, we talked, etc, and I've received a bill of almost 300.00. That's MY portion, outside of what the insurance covered. What's the extra service that was not covered? She submitted a list of my supplements to the pharmacist to see if any of them were contra-indicated or had interactions. None of them did. Duh! I'm not an idiot! I did not want or need that, and now I've got this bill which I COULD HAVE put to faaaaaaar better use. SO ANGRY!!! It'll be another 4 years I expect, maybe more..... GRRRR....

For busy people:
1) 1g/kg of natural protein - meat, eggs, diary. No protein shakes.
2) Fiber intake if tolerated - 30g/day.
3) Hydration! - if no kidney issues or other issues that require low liquid intake - 2-2,5 liter per day. No sodas.
And no fake sugar too

Doesn’t have to break the budget. I’m carnivore on fixed income. Eliminating breads, processed foods( anything in box or can) and salads leave enough where now you can afford better meats and eggs, bacon , butter(REAL butter) and hamburger( I buy 70% lean. ).
Protein..... yes meat, but there are other sources. I eat black beans and rice, unflavored Greek yogurt, eggs, nuts, peas and tuna, etc. I know there are issues with oxalates, etc BUT you have to find what works for you. Protein itself is not necessarily expensive, you just have to educate yourself and be selective. 😊

They think 60-75g is more than enough lol I’m 5-4 and old snd still need 100g roughly, daily. Every single day. Fatty meat, not beans & oatmeal. Red meat, not lifeless chicken breast & canned tuna w/no iron, fat etc.

To everything you said I would add Creatine. It is a supplement that helps with muscle building and recovering,fights sarcopenia,help with the brain problems many elderly face. I'm 66 yo and I do take creatine on a daily basis,I do exercise regularly. I have absolute no signs of sarcopenia.
The body naturally produces creatine. Can also be gotten from eating meat. Don't need supplements.
@@yakncast7530 Accordingly to some researchers the body don't produce enough for what it needs...From my own experience that it is correct. At my age I do have more muscles than the majority of the men much younger than me and I say younger like on their 20s or 30s
Just stick to a high fat carnivore diet and that's all you need to be healthy
I think nac is a form of creatine. The creatine on the market seems to had gone down in quality. Bone broth would be best, I think... if I am not mistaken.
Thanks for another great video Dr. Dhand! I am now 60 and very healthy and active with some phsyical limitations (old injuries). I see that I don't want to eat as much as I age. I try to get in enough protein and probably don't. To help, I use NOW organic pea protein in my homemade fruit shake in the morning. I will have a hard boiled egg during the day and raw organic almonds and some fruit. In the evening I will make some type of vegetable and organic chicken or salmon.
Thank you doctor this is exactly what I need to know. I have to be very mindful about my diet due to intolerance's and ill health.
Looking at seaside photographs from the the 60,s posted on you tube, most people were quite slender so something about the 50,s diet must have been sensible, ie a balance of proteins and carbs.
At 68 yrs of age active and on no medication and suffering from a chest infection I have just shopped and bought honey, sardines, soup, chicken noodles, polish garlic sausage, rice pudding and a tin of marshmellow flavoured stout. feel better already 😀.

Good doctor, I would love to hear what you have to say about the following: It's not only about how much protein you eat, but how well you can digest it. It's important not to EVER take drugs or anything to reduce your stomach acid, because that will put you at higher risk for food poisoning and pneumonia. Stomach acid is there for many reasons, and another very important reason is for digesting the nutrients out of all different types of foods, and especially vitamin B12 out of meat. B12 is a large molecule that is hard to break out, but it is absolutely necessary for short-term memory and making ATP, which is called Energy, in the body. If you can't make enough energy, you will eventually need a pacemaker. B12 PREVENTS short- term memory loss by protecting your nerve sheaths. And guess what?-- there is a 'point of no return' with low B12!😢 The deleterious effects of low-to-no B12 can actually cause death, as it did in my father and my grandmother, and it is a horrible, slow process. Since poor metabolism is part of the problem, be sure to supplement with 'Methyl B12', which your body will be able to readily use without having to "convert" it thru the methylation process. (If it doesn't say methyl B12 or methyl- cobalamin, it's not methyl B12, and you don't want it.) A good dose would be anywhere from 1,000 micrograms to 5,000 mcg.

I suppose hydrochloric acid capsules , apple cider vinegar, or lemon in water, pancreatin, would all be good for breaking down meat...
