@@hawaiiangunner I know many micro style extreme compact weapons which are direct refutations to the claim "No matter what gun." Especially for guys who have huge hands. The type of gun you use *is* important for reaching out and touching someone at 40 yards especially within 15 seconds.
Yes, I finally found a video of someone doing this with a micro compact and irons. This is the only video on RUclips where someone is shooting a practical gun that the majority of people are actually carrying. I got so tired of people that think they are tacticool with their custom high dollar ported full sized guns with optics thinking they are good because they can pull it off. Your the only one with the balls to do it with a micro and irons.
Prepping the trigger is vital, and it could be something that's easily overlooked in a stressful situation, like the one that occured in the mall that day. Elisha Dickens was on point with his shots! He saved a lot of lives!
I think your video of the Dicken drill is the best most of the other guys I've seen claim they're concealed carry weapon is a Glock 17 with a red dot and a flashlight for some reason I don't believe it. I know many people that carry concealed I've never seen anybody with a Glock 19 or a Glock 17 they all use the Sig 365 or a Glock 43 and 43x, great video.
40 yards is really far for a micro gun like a p365. Good shooting! Thanks for the instructive content. Any specific advice for shooting specifically those small guns at range?
just get a Smith and wesson m60 or colt detective special. take 5 boxes of .38 ammunition and just shoot those 250 rounds in the sand / barrier. unaimed. get a feeling of your gun and turn completly of your brain while doing that. right hand, left hand recoil nothing to think about. Quite a few people i trained on this side of the pond with short pistols and revolvers have only one issue. Its not that most people cant aim or even combine intuitive aiming with real aiming. No, they think about the recoil..... i heared that so often Ive been shooting for x many years, i dont be bothered by recoil.... just believe me, most likely your brain is. people think shooting left or right low is your trigger squeeze. Its definitely your brain...... has nothing to do with your trigger finger or how you hold your handgun... Think about why you can hit very well with just one hand and the other in your trousers pocket.
I EDC the same gun, but with the 12 round mag due to my XXL size hands. I'm looking forward to going to the outdoor range and setting up the 40 yard challenge. Nice shooting.
Great video Myles! Thanks for sharing this. Theres maybe 3 other guys with gun channels that can do that with a 365 or any sub compact. Great shooting brother.
I have read that he actually started at 40, ran forward to 30, and shot from there. The fifteen seconds includes the movement. But we won’t know the actual story until some time has gone by. I was able to do this version easily with my Glock 17 and 26, but failed miserably with my Ruger LCP .380 and with my snubbie.
Best version of this drill that I've seen yet! I appreciate how you induce some stress by running up! I'd still like to see some supported shooting like bracing against a pillar or something but I think I understand why no one incorporates that into this particular drill - you may not have that option and training to this [higher] standard ensures a higher probability of getting those longer distance shots when you need to! Still wouldn't mind seeing what some [realistic] supported shooting might look like though ...
Since we aren't given notice about another Dickens event, the differences in training are important. Bad guys would need to take a class and get certified in it otherwise. To be sure- it opened my eyes to start shooting further than I'd been accustomed. Full cred to Sir Dickens.
I think it’s important to mention the details of Eli’s shots in order to come up with a proper Dicken’s Drill: already mentioned, but Eli’s first 4 shots were braced from a tall food court trash can, and 2 out of the 4 hit. Next he closed the distance to roughly 20 yards, fired 4 shots, all hits. Finally, he further closed in to approximately 6.7 yards (his lawyer stated “20 feet”) with the final 2 shots that stopped the shooter.
He did land 8/10 shots, but he was 2/4 from 40 yards (still impressive). He then closed to 20 yards and landed 4/4 and then closed to 8 yards and landed 2/2.
Only 4 shots were from 40 , supported by a column and resting atop a trash can. Only 2 of 4 hit. He then moved up to half that for the next 4. Walked in the last two zombie land style double tap.
From what I understand he was using a Glock 19 iron sights and braced against a pillar to steady his aim. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong! Still great shooting under great stress!! GLAD ELI IS GETTING THE PRAISE HE SO RICHLY DESERVES! 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Why do you line the top of the front sight on the shoulder line in this drill vs covering the target with the dot in the center of the front sight as discussed in previous videos?
Great video. Love the p365. I have both the xl and the 365 in .380 caliber. Do you mind sharing what holster you have? It looks very comfortable- and virtually invisible.
I have yet to see a content creator do a drill in the manner Eli actually engaged the shooter. 4 shots at 40yds (2 hits). 4 shots at 20yds (4 hits). 2 shots at 20/25 feet (2 hits). This is per Eli Dicken’s lawyer described to him by Eli.
Great Tips. Unbelievable 9 out of 10 with a P365 (I own a P365 XL with a Romeo 0 and got not even close) I will practice your tips and subscribe to the channel. Thumbs up. (my respects to Elijsha Dicken, and hopefully the police will differentiate the aggressor and the hero when they arrive)
Bracing on a pillar would probably not have crossed my mind. Its not something that is available at your average shooting range and in the average guys training schedule. Those little extra things are interesting
I read up on this guy and only the first 4 rounds were fired from 40 yards. Eli closed the distance during the shooting and fired 4 more at 20 and another couple at about 7 yards away
Kid had to buy another gun to carry as his was still in evidence. 6 months ago, in an interview, Dicken's lawyer spoke about the video footage, (link below) He says that Dickens first fired 4 braced shot sat 40 yards, missing 2, then changed positions, moving forward 20 yards, and changing angles to shoot down a hallway at the retreating shooter, firing 4 more shots that all hit. Then closed within 20-25 feet, firing 2 more landed shots. The Dicken's Drills all came out just after it happened, and no one has done these drills based on new information. The 15 seconds, was 15 seconds that it took Dicken to react, when the shooter came out of the bathroom, firing, to the first shot that Dicken took. ruclips.net/video/r2W_6D4WQL8/видео.html
Everything wrong with the Dickens Drill is: 1. doing the drill when waiting for the start signal 2. No stress issue 3. no realistic szenario If you do it, do it right and realistic! 1. Be distracted by other people. Talking to each other, laughing, etc. 2. Get the star tsignal when you are not waiting for it. Be surprised, then the reaction time is there and oyu get more realistic Starting the timer yourself or getting the Shooter Ready, Stand By commands get`s you ready for combat. dickens didn`t have that. He, like all other people in the Food Court, didn`t know or expect what was coming. If you just want to know, if you can put 10 rounds downrange in 10 seconds and get 8 hits, ok, but that is nowhere near a realistic drill
One of the better drills online, most are standing in the ready to go position. Try the drill from a sitting position with a drink in your hand and back to the target, then run to cover at a support column as that's most likely what happened Stop repeating yourself, edit it out!
The official report was 2 out of 4 shots at 42 yards, 4 out of 4 shots at 25 yds, then final 2 shots from 20 feet away. Source: Dickens lawyer. And Police report. Also gun eas a Glock 19, stock sites, no optics.
Why not do it against a barricade (column)? He did. That's how my dad taught me how to get a steady shot on an animal in the woods, find a tree in the line of sight and brace yourself against it. It works!
Outstanding marksmanship deploying a micro compact 🏆 To be realistic regarding the real event and the probability of hitting a real active target at that range I am skeptical as to the number that found the target, could be that many hit the scumbag as he was downed with the first few. Not trying to devalue his actions in any way. The guy saved peoples lives. Only the coroner/ballistics report would shed light upon that.
Well not necessarily as depending on placement and vital organs hit, type of ammo used and add in even though he could of had fatal shots a person also with adrenaline rush and even with fatal shots hits minus head shots the person can have 5-10 secs before bleed out rendering them incapacitated and not having ability to continue to be a threat. You can remember the Deputy shooting an attacker 12 times at point black range ( Physical fighting) and the man continued to fight.
All these people doing the Dicken drill is a joke nobody so far has totally re-enact the situation. Also notice the lack of details of the shooting and there has been no video released. Imagine his GF running 40 yds to get behind him and cover, reportedly he was waving to people to get behind him, he was moving and the target was moving. was he shooting 2 hands while waving people or 1 handed. An amazing feat considering the adrenaline rush, tunnel vision and auditory exclusion he had. God was definitely with him, he saved many lives. Would love to see the video thou.
Did you or anyone else contact Eli Dickens about using his name? The fact is he may not want all that much attention. Also consider that if you are providing training and making money you ought to pay him a royalty for using his name. Maybe you should think about that and do the right thing.
Only shooters who regularly practice out to 50 yards with their carry gun should ever attempt to do this! Also, if any of your shots miss, you are responsible for whatever you accidentally shoot. 9 out of 10 hits may have worked for Dicken - but it may not work for you! Missed shots can easily get you into serious legal trouble. Finally, you never run toward a threat. You always run away from a threat. Running 10 yards toward a threat that is 50 yards away is dumb. Don't ever do it. Think with your brains - not with your guns!
Iron sight ... Nice. Got into an idiotic argument because i believe the drill needs to be run with a more realistic carry gun as a person won't likely find themselves eating donuts in the mall with their full-house 2011 on their hip.
Not so sure it’s as helpful using a steel target doing this drill though. In real life, you have no idea where or if you’re hitting. Steel gives you the feedback you shouldn’t have. I think cardboard makes it harder and more realistic.

Good, good points. Trigger prep and not having only focus on the front sight were what I needed.
I love the simplicity of the 365 and Iron sights. Nice shooting!
In my humble opinion, the best video on the Dickens drill.

Having a stable/steady platform becomes so much more important with small guns.

That's just his personal preference.

That being said you plugged 9 out of 10 with a p365 which is very impressive for a gun with a 3 inch barrel. I have some work to do for sure.
I live 20 mins from greenwood park mail I heard he had a Glock but not sure what one or how it was decked out yet
It was stock not sure model though. One gun channel is getting in touch to send him a decked out G19 though. Which I thought was cool.
