Elisjsha Dicken is absolutely a hero. 8 out of 10 shots under that kind of stress at 40 yards is remarkable and it takes much more than luck to do that. Eli, if you happen to read this, awesome job, you are a hero and deserve every bit of recognition bestowed upon you! There may have been some information released that says what Glock Eli had and if it was equipped with a red dot, but I haven't seen anything. Regardless if Eli's handgun was equipped with a red dot or not, it's still an amazing feat that he accomplished. I am former US Army and former law enforcement, but I salute this young man.
All I heard was that it was 9mm. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say it couldn't have been any smaller than a 43X, or Glock 19. I can't imagine being able to pull off a feat like that with a subcompact or micro 9 at that distance, even with a red dot. 40 yards is quite a distance.

@@tomofengland Glock 33 would be sweet. The .357 SIG round is fully capable or beyond capable of making these shots. The gun is pretty small, but it is more about the mental and physical stress. I cannot even imagine the stress. Regardless of what gun, the Glock and him got it done. He is a hero. So many lives saved.
This is why I love training at GlockStore Nashville. Talented, creative instructors and rooms large/flexible enough to create drills that so much more closely represent situations you could face in real life. Mitch is an awesome employee at the Glock Store and does a great job , he's knowledgeable and has always been quick to help me with questions .Thanks Mitch. And Eli were thankful for your quick actions as well.
Question: was Eli using a Glock 19 with optics? That drill should be simulated with a Glock 19 pistol with almost the same set-up as Eli's to make it more realistic. Also, has this drill been practiced before it was filmed?
I would argue it doesn't really matter the gun or the optics. Its what you would be carrying in that situation. lots of people are adding the optics, so if that's what you would be carrying, that's what you want to shoot. Glock, revolver, 1911, whatever.
I ran that drill a couple days after the incident happened. I did it three times, failed one time and passed on the other two times. I did one run on our first take of the video and made all ten hits, then we filmed it a second time and that's the one that is in this video. I just used my daily concealed carry setup to see how I would do in a similar shooting drill. What you have on you is what you will you use in a real life situation.
Hey guys, why don't you try your simulations with bullets flying your direction and directing bystanders to get out and away. Having that insane stress and adrenaline level had to be insane. He acted on pure instinct because so many people would be just shitting their pants instead of acting. Anyone can run drills and that is very important, but you know he didn't practice for this situation. How could he? That is skills and I hope that I would have the ability to do the same, if the time came. But I pray every day that I never have to clear my holster and engage a shooter or defend the lives around me including my own. I bet he is still in shock. He has to live with that the rest of his life. And then he will blame himself for not acting sooner to save those three lives, but we all know he could only do what he did. He is a damn hero, and I would be proud to shake his hand.
Its nice to see that this CCW / good Samaritan will be remembered, based on his shooting skills. First we had the Jack Wilson drill (Texas Church) No we have the Dicken’s Drill. Proof that good guys need to be able to carry.
he also missed the only 2 shots he took at 40 yards, he got way closer to hit the other 8. Regardless, dude is still a hero. If you want to hit at 40 yards, an optic is gold.
Thank you for doing one on this topic. I think this young man Dicken has done something that will go a long way to ending this crap of thinking that a person can show up to a soft target with an AR and shoot a bunch of people without worrying about anything. Most of you are doing the Dicken drill so that means that millions and millions of up followers are out training ourselves to be able to stop these guys in 15 seconds or less. You have to figure they are seeing all the posts too . I bet the mass shootings will be drastically reduced because of the actions of this young patriot.
He shot under extreme stress that even most members of law enforcement will never encounter. He did it with a compact Glock with sights removed and saved many lives, can't believe people here or anywhere would think they could replicate this feat under similar circumstances. What people who put him down and criticize don’t get was that as soon as Dicken pulled out his firearm and started shooting, he made himself the number one target. 100% of the attention of the gunman will be on him, and every single bullet left on the gunman’s magazine has Dicken’s name on it. Dicken had enough time and distance to run away but he didn’t. He became target number one and the gunman could easily have emptied his AR magazine on him if he didn’t go down.

Not sure why everyone says 10 shots in 15 seconds. He actually engaged the shooter in 15 seconds after the first shot the shooter took taking him down. It’s not 10 shots in 15 seconds.
Chill brother, it’s just a drill. Why not try to shoot it in 10 seconds? First shot on target usually wins the fight, and if you can hit him 8 or 10 times in ten seconds, he’s gonna be hit and hurting before he knows what’s happening.

And you had an advantage of having a red dot...Elijah used iron sights!
Big Dicken Energy.
He was such a hero just think how many people could of been killed in that situation training counts obviously
Nice shooting Tex. Or rather, Tenn.
No offense but you need to mention you aren’t an average shooter. It takes a lot of practice to even hit a few from that distance.
Everybody is now a copy cat. Routinely practice at 50 and 100 yards and the 40 yard shoot becomes relatively no brainer. Granter, under the heat of stress, what the kid did was fantastic. Need more people willing to pull the trigger like that, but if you are going to carry, practice, practice and know your limits
They say he was braced against the wall I thought? Still impressive.
@@jimmyhorton8297 I am chill. I just get tired of the wrong information being put out. You want to run a drill imitating what this young man did, I’m all for it, just get the information correct. So many different channels keep saying he put 10 rounds down in 15 sec then the creator goes and does it in 7-10 seconds. That’s not what that boy did. He reacted to an active shooter in 15 seconds of the first shot fired and stuck 8 of 10 shots, 2 being center mass, all while advancing towards the shooter and ushering people out of the area. Details matter in this case.
@@ltld141 , gotcha, I hear ya. I guess I’m different. Doesn’t really matter to me how he got the guy dead. If this drill gets people to be quicker and more accurate, good enough. Don’t really care if it’s with iron sights or optics, 40 yards or 10 feet.
Dickens did a great job regardless of distance which has now been report as being 24 yds either way he did an awesome job, however my point is this is not a drill look up definition, this is target shooting. This has NO tactical or practical value to be called a drill. It's just people showing whether they can shoot accurately at 40 yds in other words it a show. Demonstration that it, there is no training value is my point.
Yep
I was really expecting him to be shooting a Glock, not a 320.
40 yards your getting into rifle area now
I don't think the bad guy was just standing there not moving.
Is this Lenny's Son?
Nope, he's a good friend of mine though and a very good instructor.
no one has done it with iron sights yet....
Yeah but he didn't get to train for it, what's the chance Elisjsha ever practiced shooting at 40 yards is very low. He did this at a mall. Also he did brace against something to hold his hands still.
