I moved from the city to the mountains! You may have noticed that my most recent videos have all been in the mountains and lakes around Leavenworth, WA - one of America's most gorgeous and unique mountain towns. That's because Leavenworth is my new home! In this video I'll talk about why I moved to this remote mountain town, take you on a classic hike outside Leavenworth, and then just for fun do a polar plunge at one of my favorite alpine lakes, Lake Wenatchee! München Haus is one of my absolute faves. I will seriously make the 2+ hour drive from Kenmore just to grab lunch there.

Ok sweetie, I don´t know if you will see this but: so many serendipity moments; just binging around your videos, in the same life situation as you, into hiking, thinking of moving, and I see the main Street of Leavenworth which reminded me of my favourite show from my childhood "Northern Exposure", I google the street, it is Roslyn Washington, which absolutely blew my mind, almost near haha. Miranda, while we all love regular content, please make sure to not burn yourself out if it starts coming to that. I know a lot of content creators that started out weekly have moved to ever other week, just because the work churn got to be too much. I'm excited to see what you do this year! Just take care of you first. :D
Miranda will likely respond but I just wanted to say I really appreciate this comment. Thank you! Burn out is a big thing on RUclips. Miranda and I are very focused on not burning out this year. We will definitely take some Sundays off here and there, and some edits will take longer too and we’ll always take the extra time to make sure a video is right, but even so we think we can deliver weekly content most of the year.

Miranda, I'm so happy for you! My dad used to live around Lake Chelan, not too far from where you are. He ended up living in Vancouver, worked across the river in Portland, and then moved to the SF Bay Area to be closer to us kids. He lasted three years before he had to move. I quote "you guys live about 10 years an hour faster than I can stand". He ended up meeting his third wife and they moved to Rapid City, SD where they actually lived happily ever after until he died at age 83. I think the slower pace of a small town and the ability to get into the woods whenever you like is going to be great for you. Thanks for introducing us to your new town! Sounds like a place I'd like to visit!

Leavenworth is my DREAM town!! It's GORGEOUS
Just a little history check. From the history I have read Leavenworth was not a mining town. It originally started when the Great Northern Railway built tracks through Steven's Pass and the regional headquarters were there until 1925 when they moved to Wenatchee. A sawmill was built in 1903 and a the town continued on as a logging community that was in serious decline in the 1950's. The Bavarian theme was deliberate move to try to switch the town's economy to tourism. It worked.
I’m hiking the PCT this year and will be stopping in Leavenworth for a zero or two because my aunt and uncle live along the icicle river. I love the town! It’s definitely one of my bucket list places to live. Kudos to you! Enjoy!

We moved there as well! Love the outdoors and away from the city. If you ever want to test out some gear, just let us know as we may have it. I’m always cycling or running around the Pine St/Titus block.
I moved here, too and am often walking my dogs on those same streets. 😊

I felt that polar plunge. The swim test at Camp Zanika on the shores of Lake Wenatchee was a cold, cold swim. Even in July.

As a native east coaster I saw Leavenworth on my first trip to the PNW back in 2007. I live in Houston now and go backpacking with my college buddies who live up there now every summer. It's a huge spirtual and mental reset for me being in the mountains. You're videos help me get through the non summer months living in flat land Houston. Thank you to you and the team for all that you guys do spreading joy.
As a Texan, I can understand why you would need a little something extra to help you deal with being stuck in Houston.

I went to Anacortes Community Forest Land and took the trail up to Mount Erie. It was still socked in a 10:30 am. But I got to see the cool monuments and plaques.
The past few weeks I have been wondering if you moved to Leavenworth because I recognized it, congrats! I camped along Icicle Creek for three months in 2013 and it kinda changed my life... since then I have always wanted to revisit the area, especially since I now live a (long) day drive away. I hope it's as special a place for you as it is for me.
It is such an incredibly special place to me, for a ton of reasons, and I'm super jazzed to live here now! I hope you get a chance to visit again ❤️ it never loses it's charm.

The Cheesemonger Shop is the best place in Leavenworth. Well, besides the year round Christmas shop. If you haven’t been, I totally suggest going!!

I love Leavenworth! Make sure you go to Eight mile and up the hill to Lake Caroline. Colchuck is great. Windy Pass. And if you have the time and funds for ride in, definitely go to Scottish High Camp and get into Chiwaukum, Loc Eileen, Teacup, and all the Alpine Wilderness lakes up there (still ice in Teacup in August for your Polar Plunge). Hope to bump into you on the trails.

If I didn't move to Missoula, Montana, Leavenworth would've been VERY high on my list of places to move to. I've always wanted to live in Leavenworth. Fun Fact: The Icicle Ridge Trail is where my best friend talked me into joining her for our first Grand Canyon Rim to Rim hike back in 2016. It was then in the canyon later that year where I got inspired to start planning my first PCT thru-hike. Thank you for taking me down memory lane. I got all the feels from this one.
Surreal experience - seeing the town you moved to thousands of miles away from the Alps.
The colorful lights are a bit over the top - but otherwise a cool vibe.
Murals are really often on old Bavarian houses - so that was nice. Together with the maypole and the mountain views/ trails - that could be a small town in the Alps 😂

It's a cool place, lots of good hiking. My mother in law wrote a whole series of books based there called Life in Icicle Falls named after the hike you did.
