CRF300L Top Speed Run! | (Highway Review)

- They call the CRF300L a Dual Sport, but can you actually ride it like one? In today's video we answer that question with a Highway review and top speed test. We start out on a mission to find a scenic live streaming location and get to enjoy the off-road side of the sport, then hop back on the pavement and head into the city in search of higher speeds and an answer to one of my most asked questions.
Overall I feel that the 300L is a very capable machine and you can absolutely ride it comfortably on the street. Is it the best bike for the job? No. But that's why it is called a Dual Sport, it was designed to do a little bit of everything and that is what I am on a mission to prove.
Would you commute on one?

People make fun of me for owning one of these but it does everything and for cheap , It costs me a average of $7 to rip to my camp 160km or 100 miles away, on the highway, I do this most weekends to go dirt biking and then drive back for another 7 bucks.
Why would anyone make fun of you for owning this?
It's probably not because of the bike.
i just bought one this morning ❤❤❤
@@19hundoc47my guess is cause it's a 300cc... "Need a big bore or you ain't shit bruh"
@@13tucker45yea they don’t realise how good supermotos are
I was Dow in Yuma Az riding my brothers 250 L Rally following him on his 1800 Gold Wing. As the evening advanced the temperature dropped quickly to around 45 degrees F and we decided to get back to his place asap. That little 250 LRally did 82 mph for a solid 3 hours !!! I was so impressed that when I got home I bought a brand new 300 L Rally. Super nice bike. I’ll be keeping it for sure.
I’m 71 years 205 lbs. 8 motorcycles in the garage and the Rally is my favorite.
For everybody else I love it, been riding a two-stroke 125 forever and now I just like to trail ride through the mountains. It is comfortable turns well a little heavier than I wanted it to be but good power with the one down four up on the sprocket change. Plus easy on the hands.
I’m sure with doing the exhaust mod and a small gearing change with more street tires this would cruise pretty good at highway speed. My 450L with some secret sauce worked into it will do well over 100mph.
surprised their is no EJK out for it yet tbh im looking foward to people putting a FMF and EJK on the 300 rally and seeing what the dino says and how well they overtake on highways
I picked up a new bike since the ol xt last year. 2009 WR250X. 99 mph on flat road. Obviously these spedos aren't accurate, but based on my research, most dual sports read about 7-9% high. Still wanna take the ride out to Ohio one of these days. Happy to see you back on two wheels!
Crf300l runs about 2.5% high.
Wow ! The 250 was great for the back roads to get home but im for sure looking forward to the 300l upgradd great video
that's a video i have been waiting to see. I just picked up the same bike and plan on riding around Alberta and B.C so if i stick to the 100km/hr (60mph) approximately i should be fine. Time for me to get out there and start finding these things out for myself. Great Video !!! So far i love my 300l
Greetings
Once again, thanks for the ride🇺🇸🎉🍾🇺🇸
If it can hit 75 and be at cruising RPM then it’s perfect for me. I’ll mainly off road but I’ll use the highway to get to the parks and trails.
I like the bike stock, no stickers, no free advertising and quiet as F. You can do some Urban Fookery big time with a bike that quiet. I really liked this video. The riding through the city was very cool and the drive down the 1 way was funny AF. I laughed so hard because in my early days doing HVAC in the City of Chicago, i did the same thing, only in a work van and got pulled over for it, LOL.
I got pulled over going backwards down a one way in downtown Houston in a dump truck lol
@@JuarezDerrick LOL
@@harrynutsackk the first thing he asked me is "are you lost" I was like yes sir I have been driving around for an hour and a half trying to get back on the highway. He told me to turn around go the right direction and go all the way to Texas Street and take a right. That will take you to interstate 45. I have lived here forever but I never went to downtown Houston.
@@JuarezDerrick I was driving the wrong way on Lake Shore Drive, downtown Chicago. The cop Yelled at me like a psycho, lol. I told him im not from the City, it was a mistake. They take that shit personal, at least in Chicago.
@@JuarezDerrick Glad to hear it worked out okay. . . i never trust the po po.
Great video! Nice mix of topics and "roads" ;)
Thanks! 😃
Right on! My 83 XL200R would top out at 65. I might have to buy one to hang off the back of my RV
Man I just bought a 300l today haven't even got to see it or pick it up yet due to working offshore. I've only rode a 250l like 2 miles and decided I for sure wanted one lol so I seen they came out with 300 and I bought it. I didn't really like the way the 650s looked they look shaped funny to me but that's just my opion.
Great video! And awesome review, thanks for sharing my friend!👍💪
Great stuff , been waiting for the top speed run.
So this is great. Cruising at 75 vs 65 is a game changer for a dual sport. And she lost a couple of pounds as well?
I like riding my 300L more than my 450L. Thanks for the video. 👍🏻
Why? Just curious....
@@LifeFlight101 same
Why?
Probably less undy changes
why you think it’s more fun?
Great video , I'm gonna get mine in 1 month !
I live in eastern NC. With an 82mph top speed for me it would be a no brainer to change the sprockets and actually give up some of that top end speed for more low end. Just don’t need to ride 80 here. I guess in some areas riding on the interstate is unavoidable. But here there’s plenty of 55 mph country roads that go to the same places. Our interstates are a nightmare on any bike. It’s not so much about passing power. But cars going 80mph will regularly slam on the brakes to avoid roadkill or other road hazards like big ass chunks of tractor trailer tires. And you can’t keep a reasonable following distance because if you lay back to increase your following distance another vehicle changes lanes and pulls right in front of you reducing it again. Can’t “make progress” either, as in ride slightly faster than traffic to avoid cars forgetting you’re behind or beside them, because people in cars haul ass and you’d have to go fast enough that if you get pulled over you’re not only getting a speeding ticket but reckless driving also.
Love the content! I got about 1k miles on mine already. U wheelie in third?? How! Ur the master!!
its funny that i wanted to know if the crf300l was going to have enough power to hang with the occasional trip around Columbus on 270 and the such and this is the video i find.
Dude I’m rooting for the speedometer bro 😎 that was down I never been so excited for 85 mph
Hello, fellow central Ohio rider! LOL as soon as I saw that log cabin at 8:05 I knew exactly which road you were on, Olentangy river view road! Love that road : )
I am buying this Honda 300. Very nice bike. Thanks for the video.
Sweet you was on 315. I love hitting that corner coming around henderson as well😂.
Dude you look like your having so much fun. Making me want to get one haha!
You should!
@@AdventureDaily just brought my bike home on Tuesday. You’re videos helped a lot a lot with the decision making process. Keep up the good work man. You are now one of the few that I am subscribed.
Good review. You answer many questions.

Big nostalgia with that comment haha. Good times.

I laugh so hard every time I watch your videos, such entertainment 🇺🇸🎉🍾🇺🇸
Yo! Love it! The trees / woods / creek crossings were awesome. Can I use your top speed to put your bike up against the KLX300? Thanks in advance.
the wheelie made me do it....subscribe !
Can't click the like button twice... wish I could. Great
Appreciate that Mikey! Thanks for stopping by 🤘🏻
I also hit 85, that's true top speed, if its less or more its due to conditions.
I hit 151kmh hour ago. I'm 82kg and add couple kg for gear. I'm on 6000km and it's like it's waking up more
Dude, a few people with a klx300 have airbox, exhaust and tune and they are only getting 83/84 top speed… i think gotta get those mods on this and see what it can do
I've seen 84 on my 300 Rally. It's funny how excited we get. 82....83....84! Woo-hoo!! 👍
That is awesome!
82...83....84................85!
is this in MPH or KPH? TNX
@@agustinh.sardidojr7569 MPH 👍
I see you goin' down High Street. I enjoy a good ride up and down the road just to get a sense of the city every now and then.
I really enjoy your videos. I am a bit torn, I’ve been considering a CB 500x but still always coming back to a CRF300L. Most of my riding will be semi country and perhaps a few rides through some canyons where it could get windy. I’m about 2 hours from Yosemite. Do you think I would get blown around doing perhaps 60-65 through the canyon roads? Probably never ride on freeway.
i ride in. some windy weather with the 250 rally at first i was worried but after riding countless times in the wind you just learn to work with it i was never blown into traffic it’s not that extreme but you learn to just respond to wind conditions without being super conscious of it
The CB500X is a sport bike dressed up adventure style and the CRF300L/Rally is a majority dirt bike that has road capabilities and the CBR300 engine.
Vastly different. I had a 2015 CB500F and that felt like a perfect city/canyon bike.
Thanks for the video, looking forward to more content on this bike. If you don't mind me asking, where are you located out of?
Awesome spot! I want to do these creek rides, but all I absolutely hate poison oak. Lol
Dont let the skid plate fool you, the rally is built for on road riding.
Agreed.
Awesome! I've been looking for a bike like this.
Columbus IN? I love this video, I am currently torn between wanting the rally or the standard.
My opinion is that you can hold 65 mph without the stock setting shift light to start to come on. Now you can do 70 or 75 but it gets buzzy. I’ve hit 84 downhill on mine before. Don’t recommend that tho. You could go cross country 65 all day tho
Subtract about 10% from indicated speed to get your actual speed. At least that's how it is for my 2022 CRF300 Rally. All stock everything, including tires. So 85 indicated it about 76 to 77-ish. Change the rear tires to something different and it's a different scenario. The point is, for some reason a motorcycle speedometer is rarely even close to accurate. My Kawasaki is more like 12% or 13% off, indicating higher than actual. I got a Sheriff's deputy to work with me on that one, but GPS will tell you the same thing.
I'm getting SatNav 86 mph on my 300 Rally flat road. Showing 89 mph on the speedo.
Just bought mine today. Unfortunately I have to wait for it to be shipped. It was already on the way so they said next week. 🤞
Where did the air hit you? Chest?
I tested a Rally on the highway and I hated the windscreen because all air hit my helm.
I drive a 313 cc Naked bike and without windscreen I get the air on my chest and that is comfortable for my, but not against the Helm. I want to test it but it is Winter
Thnx for your answer
Where I'm from not many people ride around peoples fences and trespass. May not ever be seen again. I personally own 40 acres and hunt on it so I can see why people don't want others riding on their property tho.
Love the bike stuff
Thank you for the max speed info.
Great video 💯 I’ve been looking into this bike
Was doing wheelies everywhere like you were having a blast until one day was riding a wheelie onnmy drz400 and a cop rode right by, oh boy i got a 1200$ wreckless driving ticket and lost driving 6 points now which i have to pay to get them back, so i stopped doing wheelies on the road
Shit thats tough dude 😬😬😬😬
Nice vid bro!
I wanna get this for my first bike? Whaddaya think guys?
Nice review, wheelies make me nervous lol, I am thinking 300 Rally, but your review was great, I'm 220 pounds 6 foot 2 but don't need the top speed, a bit like the grey haired dude in the red car lol
Just got one of these new recently. I weigh about 175 and took it to 85mph. Said the same thing to myself. "This feels uncomfortable" 🤣
146/147kmh. Australia, Victoria (just lost license 6months speeding 🤬) but I have a fortnight before it starts so….
I actually just purchased a 2024 CRF300L non abs and I’m feeling a little bit nervous about breaking it incorrectly and making sure I don’t damage anything I noticed yours only has 130 miles on it at what point did you just let it start eating and stop babying it
You mentioned the DRZ and WR, if you were doing 10 street/90 dirt, and wanted to do 3 day, slow/safe riding trips (w/paneers) on medium technical bdr type stuff, what would you suggest, crf/drz/wr ?
Great video, you know how to make them very entertaining in content and post!
Wr allday best all around bike
Nice review, amazing.. What place sir... Beautiful place...
Your stuff real good.
"3.09 dude that sucks"
Utah with 3.99: shyly looks away
Nice job on the CRF300l graffiti. Spread the word and keep the pelotas caliente
Awww didn't even do the speedway tuck....lol answer s the main question about cruising at 75mph.
my old 250 nighthawk has about the same highway performance, and I don't have to worry about the front wheel floating above the pavement
How much does it buzz/vibrate at highway speeds? I rode a 250l and above 64mph it buzzed so bad my hands went totally numb in 20 min
Loved the video man 👍.I was wondering if the bike will work for a guy that is 220 pounds and 6 ft 2 inches tall.?
I’m 240 and 6’5”
The suspension sucks but it’s fine for now until I eventually upgrade it. The bike felt a bit cramped but new bars and risers fixed it. It’s not fast but it’s a lot of fun.
Downsides I weigh 160 lb and I bought them the front suspension out often. Did not do well for me on steep hill climbs until I went one down four up for sprockets. I want to do another up in the rear to a 47 tooth.
I'm 165. Think this bike would be fine if it's mainly just a commuter? I'll probably do the rally version though
95°F nice weather man 🤣
Columbus? Sweet ride man!
*titles video 'highway review'
* drives straight into forest XD
I just got a ticket on that road (old 315) doing 56. Did you move up here or are you just visiting (Delaware)? I ride those same roads every day.
Ouch! Good to know haha and I'm local.
that's crazy i had my 2016 250l going almost 150 kmh with the header and pipe
Got my bone stock 300l to do 89 down a bridge. Extremely uncomfortable.
Yes it doesn't like it haha.
Cruising up 315 🤙
Could you please do a 0-60 drag race comparison or acceleration battle between the 250 and the 300L? I would really like to see if 40 cc more is worth to change the bike.
Thanks a lot for your videos!
There is a video of exactly what you are requesting. The 250 got the jump but the 300 pulled ahead for the win. 👍
@@427walrus really? I cannot find it on this channel. Can you please name it?

@@427walrus Thanks a lot! Two different riders and just one run, but i was expecting a bigger gap. So no need for me to change my 2020 CRF 250 :D Maybe the extra cc´s are just necessary to meet the new emission legislation. So no rich mixture in high rpms anymore, in order to have similar power the bike needs the sip more of displacement.
Probably be a decent gap if they hit at the same time lol.
I’d love to see a video of your motovloging camera and audio set up. I want to start making videos riding my Monkey.
85mph. That is plenty for a little bike.
so going around 70mph means RPM around 7400..That's kinda high. I wonder, how long the engine can take those higher RPM's, if somebody kept going on a highway for longer time
Forever it’s a Honda
Nice, I just bagged a 2021 CRF300L, w 670 miles, the fellah selling it was over the fookery on FB, he was done riding at 58, im 63 didnt say anything to him cause its his deal and I got the thing for 3200 bucks allready moded w bar risers, handguards, bottom bash pan. Im loving it way easier to ride then my XL600 that girl is a bitch to kick.

My stock Honda XR 150L reaches 140klph that bike is too much money for the same speed
😅
Please do a comparison between the 250l and the 300l
That’s a sick Honda man! I’ve been sold on getting a drz but I’m coming from a grom and I’ve always been a huge Honda fan but how would you compare it to the drz?
I grew up on Hondas. I think they're the most refined and hold their value the best of the Japanese brands.
@@haydendilbeck8151 cool thanks man I’ll definitely take it into consideration.the crf is a couple grand cheaper than the drz plus the Honda reliability too but from what I hear the drzs are bulletproof as well
Question? If he wants more speed and street tires, then maybe buy a street bike??? Just asking.
I like your channel. Just haven't subscribed yet. Probably because you seem to be a bit overly biased towards team red.
Back in the day, when they were called, "dual purpose", I had a '91 XR 250L. My favorite riding partner had an '87 KLR250. That's my brother. I shared this video with him simply because you look more like him than I do. Lmao! Have you ever given the KLX300 any thought?
Thanks! I love and own all brands, just happen to prefer the red. I’d love to get my hands on a KLX300 for review but I’d imagine they would be VERY similar.
The 300L could probably go more still. I once got like 88 on my 230M, with one up on the front sprocket and the full exhaust. Really scary though.
88 yes but did you go back to future???
@@trdadam2325 Maybe my speedometer is off?

Ha! I also live near Columbus and have played at the Schott. Edit: just checked your IG and you look familiar - do you play adult league?
What happened to the brozz?
I know this is an old video but there's a 300L oil change video out from a mechanic who kept the rpm below 4.5K for the first 600 miles and actually changed the oil at 270 and you should have seen the metal in there.. Pretty sure running up the rpms and riding hard may have had a detrimental effect on the power. I have seen these hit 90 actually believe it or not. hard break-ins are imho terrible. do a super soft wear in with multiple changes and then switch to full synth.
So if its brand new how many miles do I need to go before I change the oil for the first time? And how miles do I need to do before I change the oil for second time after the first oil change?
@@betakill3903The truth is I don't know the data or when is optimum. I suspect there is a point where more is not really better but I also suspect we can do better than the manual. this is uncharted territory for the public... probably a few engineers at Toyota and Honda and maybe some Nascar guys may know more about it...
I'd be worried about not being able to make a safe pass since most people drive about 70 mph
I have a 2021 CFR300L and I am nervous to pass other vehicles for that reason
I'm just worried about the stock suspension, cause I'm 220lbs. Only reason I'm not completely sold.
Well that is something that can be upgraded so if you want to invest the extra money I'd still say go for it!
I’ve hit 90 on my 250l but I’m only 150lbs
Yeah I've hit 90 too and I'm 190
Stop n shop , or stop n shoot?
I hit 151kmh tucked in so helmet was as low as I could go arse on back of bike (fully stock Inc tyres) on flat today and I backed off coming into a corner. I was pumping the air like I'd just won a race lol. I need a GoPro. Stoked I'm lighter than you as I'm not tall
Good video, between the CRF300L and for a little more the SWM SUPERDUAL X, which would you choose? Thank you.
TE630/ SWM650RS have the bests from this two bikes, light as the 300CRF and same engine from the superdual
So I read somewhere that there's some decent vibration in the handlebars at around 60mph or so. True or naw? This is looking more and more like the bike I want to get.
