Damn I always thought that the 4G63 was the superior engine. I didn’t realize that the 4B11 engine is pretty much better in every aspect aside from the block being weaker do to being aluminum. Which can easily be remedied by just sleeving the 4B11 block.

Love this!! I have an Evo X myself and I’ve worked for Mitsubishi as well. And I love both motors.
I honestly feel like the 4B11 is where it’s at.
It’s just as amazing as a 4G63, but it’s a more refined version. Any flaws or needed upgrades to the 4G63 was put into mind when they engineered the 4B11.
Anyone that hates on the 4B11 mostly hates it for the way it has to be serviced. Sure you got a little bit of awkward locations for certain components and bolts, but if you know what you’re doing, they can be much more easier to get the job done easier and error proof than you would find with the previous generations.

I've owned and built both motors myself. Been a mechanic for 12 years. I personally also think the 4b11 is better. And I love the 4g63. But every point you made was dead on 100% correct. And ive echoed similar things to evo friends. Alot of people couldn't get behind the evo 10 because of the motor change and evos long lineage with the 4g63. But the 4b11 is more superior. HOWEVER I think the evo 8-9 is the best looking evo ever/car ever made. I think it looks way cooler than a 10. I love love love the look of an evo 8-9. And to be is what makes it so special. Even though the 4b11 is better engine. The 4g63 is still a kickass motor one of the best and most classic. Thanks for the video.

I was a mechanic and I own both cars, and built both cars also. I think the 4b11 makes power easier. I'd agree with what u said. Except the Evo x has the looks in my opinion but has to be the sss package. U can fit 10.5 wheels easy and the 9 feels skinny. The 10 has a better sound in my opinion more smooth.

The 4b11 benefits from almost 30 years new tech so you'd hope it'd be better. I'd take the 4g63 block and bottom end, 4b11 head with timing components and 4g63 mechanical oil pump if it was even possible. Head flow makes or breaks and engine really IMO which is why honda engines have been so good at making power naturally aspirated. I think mitsu should have asked Honda for help designing the 4g63 heads, would have made for a better engine all around. I hate hate hate the timing belt on the 4g63, such a pain and unreliable, but once you've done them a few times its easy peasy. I agree with a lot of your assessment coming from a 4g63 nut.

    I own a 09 X 77000km
    400hp at engine
    Driven Evo 7 and 8
    Here is my general experience
The 4g simply feels more raw and brutal with sudden boosting feels very strong but definitely feel the lag and sluggishness in the lower rpms
The Evo X feels definitely more refined less brutal more consistent torque and power band through the revs
The turbo lag is minimal and car responds so rapidly to boost and picks up speed to fast it’s shocking After fast it spools and slams through the gears
It’s by far the more advanced faster and more reliable engine.

    • @dustin2956

Best way to do it.. don't. These motors are fantastic with boost and designed around it so there aren't really options like that. But if you reeeeeeeeally want to, without having all the extra cylinder pressure and heat from the turbo, I'd do lightweight forged internals in the stock sleeves with 625+ rod bolts, the biggest cams you can find, and supporting springs to rev the car to the moon. Like 10k+ rpm. Also, if it's in the cz platform, shed as much weight as possible. Absolutely gut it and realize you're still rolling in a 3000+ lbs car.

Get a Mitsubishi Lancer with the NA Open Deck 4B11 and use that as the stomping ground. It may not have the strength of the 4B11-T but since you're going NA, it wouldn't make any difference once you get it sleeved and CSS Support so I'd say start with one of those. Bolt ons will net you closer to 200whp but I'm positive that when you add upgraded Cams and get it a good tune it should surpass 200whp+ nicely!
