    About Kyoshi's fans. Kyoshi's mother used to be an airbender but because she left the airbenders and started living a less spiritual/"spiritually pure" life (aka, kinda became a criminal) started loosing some of her bending. She used her fans to keep her bending power on her normal level. Years later Kyoshi becomes the avatar and has difficulty bending small things, big things come easy but small detailed bending doesn't. She finds her mother's fans and starts using them with her own bending making them guide her when she bends and using them as an aid for bending smaller things.
    It's been ages since I've read the books so feel free to correct me if I remembered something wrong :)

    Fun fact: Agni Kai gets its name from the Hindu god of fire and the Sanskrit word for fire - “अग्नि (Agni)” and the Japanese word “会 (kai)” meaning meeting. So literally, it means ‘Fire Meeting’. You could also say “kai” is from Hawaiian, as that translates to sea, and call it ‘The Sea of Fire’.

    What’s different with “Previously on Avatar” is that it’s not always the previous episode. It will give you information from episodes way back, letting the audience know that questions from previous episodes are going to be addressed or that previous plot lines will be advanced or concluded… it’s SO gooooood 😁

    I also love how they always portray the Avatar State as like a horror thing. The music, the atmosphere, the frightened faces... They do such a good job at showing that Aang is NOT in control at the moment and is capable of killing everybody around him. The terror and danger of the Avatar State when it's not in control is emphasized SO well.
    Another thing: Suki is NOT the first girl to call Sokka out on his sexism; Katara straight-up USED the word "sexist" in episode ONE 😂

    HI Thomas, here's your answer on the fans per the books: Kyoshi's mother was an Airbender who left the Air Nomads but took her fans (if I remember correctly, she also lost her spirituality and beinding ability because she became a bandit). Kyoshi kept them to help her handle more miniscule bending because her raw power was so great that she normally would chuck mountains at people if she wasn't using a focus like her mother's fans.

    16:14. Actually Agni Kai is made from two terms. "Agni" refers to 1) The Sanskrit word for Fire and 2) The Hindu/Vedic Fire God of the same name; Agni. "Kai" is a Japanese word that means "Meeting". It usually used in a business/professional context for a meeting between two or more people.
    So the term "Agni Kai" can be translated as "Fire (God) Meeting" which is so appropriate considering it's a duel between Fire Benders.

    I think (at least a possible reason i made up off the top of my head) the Fire Nation didn't completely obliterate the Air Temples as like a symbol of their dominance. Like 'see what we did...yes allot of our soldiers were fridged by an old man, but look what we did.' I mean that is the kind of thing the Fire Nation of that time would have done...at least thats my personal theory but it could also be as simple as everyone died during the seige even the Fire Nation soldiers, and since they'd already won there was no point destroying what was left.
    Edit: Also i love Sukki. Sukki is an amazing character, and i love how important she is to Sokka's character too, teaching him humility and making him a better character. When i first watched the show a couple years ago, i was fully expecting to dislike Sokka but within 3 episodes he grew so damn much he became my favourite character for a majority of the show. And we got Sukki out of it.

    The whole not saying kill and all that thing is not cause of the writers. It’s cause of the network airing the show.
    The staff of Invader Zim revealed via commentary that the powers that be would force them to undo a character dying (like Keef in Best Friends and that annoying kid in Game Slave 2) to the point that when they saw a character die on screen they were surprised that it got past the censors.
    Also the staff of the og Rugrats admitted that they weren’t allowed to right out say that Chuckie’s mom died so they had to work around it in order to tell the story they wanted to tell. Heck the staff of Korra said that they were surprised they got the ok to have that certain scene in the final episode of S1.
    ATLA came out in 2005 which is well after IZ and that Rugrats episode so it’s likely that those running things were finally easing up on the no kill/death thing hence why ATLA was able to actual say those words.

    Thank. You!!! You can be a badass while still holding onto archetypes/stereotypes of femininity! It definitely seems like more of a modern thing where it feels like writers are like “We must make all of our female characters ‘tomboys’ or ‘one of the guys’ so that they’re a strong, female character!” Like… No, you don’t! There’s power in embracing both aspects traditionally associated with masculinity AND femininity. Ironically, portraying strong female characters as only the ones that reject their femininity (or feminine stereotypes) feels misogynistic in nature. It’s giving “I’m not like most girls” syndrome. There definitely needs to be more representation of BOTH female characters that like to be feminine AND those that maybe are more reserved and/or masculine. Having it one way or the other just invalidates a large portion of the audience and who they are.
    I’m sorry of none of what I said makes sense. I kind of started rambling a bit there 😅💕

    • @TheMbangel

      I think that it shines the first time an Avatar sees a statue of spirtual connection to their past life. Also, I think it only shines when the Avatar sees a statue resembling their past life for the first time and when an important event happens (like the Solstice) and that Avatar needs guidance immediately as they cannot access the Spiritual world as of yet. However, this is my theory as I don't think it has ever been mentioned anywhere.

      @OpticalSorcerer Год назад

      @@ltfamily8577 I haven't read the novels yet! I imagine metal fans help by channeling the lightening from your body to the fan, allowing it to come out in several bolts, if done correctly. As for redirecting, the fan could take the lightening in, softening the blow as the bender redirects it. I'm almost certain there's a way for non-fire benders to use it to combat lightening, rhough.

    • @ltfamily8577
      @ltfamily8577 Год назад

      @Optical Sorcerer I can see a firebender using it to easily catch any stray lightning and for longer reach to redirect the lightning, but lightning bending is exclusive to firebenders and I doubt it would work for anyone without firebending so still kind of a metal rod in a storm.
      I think any non fire bender would be fried to death if they tried that as a way to redirect lightning. You have to take it into your hand, through your stomach, and out the other hand. Which is something only a firebender can with stand. Anyone else would most likely get shocked and die like a normal human. Metal is like a conductor for electricity i think. I'm not trying to argue, though, just brainstorming.

    • @OpticalSorcerer
      @OpticalSorcerer Год назад

      @@ltfamily8577 Perhaps these are developed specifically for firebenders during ATLA (perhaps being made of copper), and by TLOK, they've made a thicker, more absorbant shield-like fan that can repel lightning for non-firebenders. Perhaps a super durable rubber-like material? Plus when you fold it, chi blockers could use it as an extension of their arms to block chi points at a greater distance.
      Of course, lightening redirection was inspired by the water tribe, so there are creative ways to come up with redirection, I suppose.

    • @ltfamily8577
      @ltfamily8577 Год назад

      @Optical Sorcerer Perhaps they could make a fan out of material that only exists in the atla world, but then again fans are small things and you would need a lot of pure rubber to protect from lightning so at that point would it even look and function like a fan? It might be too thick. Perhaps they can make a material that attracts lightning like metal does but absorbs it like rubber. I heard wood is good for lightning as well, but that may just catch fire.
      Then again, I think the fear of lightning comes from the fact that the best you can do is dodge it or learn redirection. Without that fear, lightning loses the edge it gives its wielders because then anyone could defend from it, and then the story just doesn't hit the same.

It was implied in the Last Airbender series that all of the Air Nomads, sky bison, and even the Flying Lemurs (so how the heck is Momo around?) He's the only Sky Bison left. And Aang even says that the three of them are all that is left of the Air Nomads and the creatures they were closest to. Sorry for being repetitive but its just something i needed to ask

      In the comics, it is mentioned that they found a small pack of air bisons that managed to escape the destruction but were now being poached. This may also have been shown in Korra's show but I am unsure. Just remembering reading somewhere that they found a small colony of them somewhere and decided to raise and bond with them.

      Bit of a late reply, but as for how Momo is still around ended up being a bit of an orphaned plot point, he was at one point planned to be a reincarnation of Monk Gyatso, but that ended up getting canned.

    I actually don't like how Suki falls for Sokka because it feels like it appeals to misogyny--"we can't have a woman actually be a badass; we have to make sure our male protag one ups her and saves her from her own stupidity! That'll keep things balanced!!--and like, she wasn't even a blip on Sokka's radar until she became the literal only option. Seriously don't understand how people thought they were couple goals when it took a woman committing suicide to eveb make them a thing.

    Agni is the Hindu god of fire and also a used as their word for fire, they call an Agni Kai a fire duel so I would imagine Kai is a word for fight or duel though I'm not sure.
