@@UnicornofWar That’s not to say the synth pop soundscape is bad at all. But let’s be honest, the album cover, colour scheme and title had me thinking this album would be heavily focused on more piano and orchestral sounds; which would be really beautiful. I love Taylor, I’m a Swiftie and I did appreciate some of the songs like Fortnight, Florida, So Long London and ESPECIALLY Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me, What can I say? Feminine rage songs are my butter and jam (considering I dedicated an entire Spotify playlist to my villainess OC).

@@elusivo3347 I am the number one Midnights hater, but after this album, I wanna take back everything I said. Enough of the synth-pop Taylor, it's literally why I only ever listen to your acoustic version of Delicate. She should just title her next album Limerence-
Limerence is a state of involuntary obsession with another person that can be cognitive, physical, and emotional. It's different from love or lust because it's based on uncertainty about whether the other person desires you back. Limerence is almost always one-sided, and focuses on whether the other person reciprocates your feelings, rather than falling in love with them.
    Bc that’s her life.

Cowboy Carter's tracks really altered something in my brain. I loved how the tracks just smoothly transition towards the next one with and without the interludes. I kinda wish that Taylor did something like that because I feel like the standard tracks are all over the place (sonically) and the anthology being cohesive-thank you, Aaron.
While listening to the whole album, I concluded that TTPD is that feeling that I feel when a big celebration ended and I'm like left with a gaping hole in my heart because I'm going to be all alone again, idk.
I low-key expected that TTPD's sound would lean more to raw and powerful vocals-even a choir, some orchestra, and piano. Something that puts you to sleep-in a good way. The synths-for me-just doesn't fit the vibe/aesthetic of the album. Some of my expectations were somewhat met-thanks to the Anthology. I do agree that she should've released the anthology a month after the release of the standard one.
But hey, she's Taylor Swift...she can do what she wants. Anything that makes her satisfied and happy with her work. Great video, btw!

I'd love to give her some peace of mind but really, a lot of the things that overwhelm her are antirely her own fault because she has never doubted herself. And I don't blame her, she was the wronged one a lot of the times, but she _really_ needs to realize that if you write four to five albums about not knowing where does your self worth comes from, you really should pick up the hint that it is your career and your audience. She has that gigantic mansion, she should take a break. The Eras Tour must have been exhausting.
But instead she demands her just roses, because she still feels like her efforts deserve more recognition because people still look down on her, but, I mean...

A low-key vacation is what she needs. I loved her previous albums as a casual listener, but this album just sort of hits the wrong way. I agree with you on that; Taylor Swift needs a vacation and a break.

The thing is, I don’t think taylor has the same perspective on her creative process as that though. It reminds me of something the streamer Valkyrae once said, basically I’m always going to play games and if I’m playing I might as well stream it. Taylor is always going to write song because that’s how she deals with life. The question is whether or not she releases them. I don’t think she’s at a point where she’s willing to actively hold back for the sake of “taking a break from the spotlight”. Maybe she will eventually, but it doesn’t seem like it rn.

Also, there's this thing that madness is a very hard thing to write. Madness demands a transformation, it's about one losing their mind because they can't deal with what reality is presenting to them. She's picking up where she left the story in Midnights, but that means TTPD is not an independent album, you actually need to listen closely to Midnights, especially the song From the Vault, in order to understand what's going on. She started all wrong, she's already talking about unaliving people in the opening track. The Black Dog and I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) should've been in the beginning, and Fortnight should've been somewhere in the middle. Who's Afraid of Little Old Me? definitely should've been one of the last, with her screaming and shouting out of control.
Edit: ICDIWABH should've been the very last song.
Edit2: TTPD should've been divided as "The Descent" and "The Reemergence". The main album should've been about her becoming a Mad Woman, and the bonus album should've been an epilogue about her recovery.
That's it, no more edits 😅

It's been... interesting being Taylor's fan. I really like "found" her somewhere between Reputation and Lover. I found songs I liked in each previous album, but Lover hit the jackpot for me. It was just chef's kiss for me. After that came Folklore which was even more up my alley, which surprised me. I didn't like Evermore quite as much but I still liked it. You know, the folk... But then came Midnights and I had to actively listen to it UNTIL I found stuff to love. And I thought, okay, this album wasn't for me. But the same thing's happening with this album and I'm somehow kinda afraid that those 3 albums I absolutely loved were not "real Taylor" but a phase that will never come back and... I guess that would be okay. She can do whatever she wants and all. It's just that she's the only artist I have been this obsessed about and losing that would be sad.

The more I sit with both Tortured Poets and The Anthology the more it makes me think that The Anthology was actually done first in chronological order. That part is the real break up album with Folklore - Evermore type of sound that everyone expected. But then, Matty Healy happened. And she made Torture Poets and so much happened that just having The Anthology wasn't enough for her, because she wasn't just sad and defeated anymore, she was PISSED. So the sadness - and as consequence The Anthology - had to take a "step back", but it still had to be there somewhere.

Taylor said TTPD is tragic, but it isn't actually. It's dramatic, it's psychotic. But tragic? Where is the tragedy? She claims she knows her ancient Greece sh*t, but she either doesn't know that tragedy for them was staring in the high and bright and ending in the low and darkness. Even Shakespeare did it like that with Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. There's nothing tragic about TTPD: the start of each song is exactly how they end, and Fortnight, the opening, is not a happy song in any way. The title track could be happy, but she name dropping Charlie Puth and calling Matty Healy a Tattoed Golden Retriever was very weird for a Taylor Swift song.

    • @Mysterium-zy6ri
      @Mysterium-zy6ri 4 месяца назад +5

TTPD is tragic. For a tragedy you need to start in a place of power or high status, she has this absolutely. Then you start to see things go worse of the protagonist this could be in Midnights where things are getting worse but she hasn't fully realised it yet. TTPD shows just how far she's fallen and how she may not ever go back to how she was before (mentally). TTPD is only tragic when you look at the bigger picture and how she was before Midnights and how she is now.

She said at one point that this isn't an era she enjoyed, but endured. I think it shows, this is a meltdown in album form. It doesn't even feel like an era, it's a bunch of diaristic songs she wrote from the mental hospital. In the prologue/epilogue(?) poem she wrote, she says it was not a love affair, it was a manic phase, house and then cardiac arrest. She admits she makes poor choices and metaphorically died as a result, and I don't think a cohesive story would've done justice to how fucking horrible that feels (Personally, this album is triggering but I love it too much to not listen to it)
I love the soundscape personally because I never got sick of synth-pop as someone who barely listened to Midnights (didn't vibe with it but vibed with TTPD), and I think the mellow synths and melodies works if we remove the expectations of more orchestral productions, because in a sterile office department, that 'wanting to kill yourself' and 'I love my job' sound works.
My fave song is MBOBHFT, it has a 'Cruel Summer' factor, and it has a nonchalant bitterness in Taylor that I loved, it's a simple metaphor but it's such an insult to that man to be called an immature, trigger-happy child and that you're the doll who keeps trying to convince yourself that this toxic shit is working out. It didn't strike me at first, but after multiple listens it just went to the top spot as someone who likes songs that have single potential.
Now that I had more time with it, it's my favorite album now over reputation. I think it's her best lyrically alongside folkmore and it's hella meaty despite its clear cut intentions as a break-up album, as someone who prefers this funny (her funniest album and it's something I would never expect from very literal Taylor but it was a welcome change of pace), ranty, and more modern type of writing.
I can see however that it's very lore dependent in a way, like some of these songs just do not make sense without the context of Taylor (WAOLOM feels unnecessarily vindictive if stripped from 2016, even as someone who makes this song about my blorbo and thinks it can work as a character study for so many anti-hero characters)

Anthology by definition is a collection of poems without a set narrative. The Anthology feels like TTPD but without the tortured part for me personally, a lot of the songs go back to that folkmore sensibility and it felt fresh listening to a not synth-pop Taylor again, I will die on a hill for Peter I cannot believe this woman made a follow-up song to her love triangle story and it's just as beautiful as all three of those.
My conclusion is that people are really sick of this kind of production, but kinda like Rep my thoughts are that TTPD will show excellence down the line once Taylor Mania ends.
(This is actually something I always do for Taylor albums even outside folkmore, I try to imagine the narratives devoid of Taylor and see the story if it was prose rather than poetry, and the story I came up with for TTPD will forever stay in my heart and I love it for that)

I think a lot of the criticism about this album is valid but honestly, I like it that she releases music even if they aren't her best. I prefer to have some mid songs along with some great ones than to have her keep it in the vault, and for awards such as the grammys it makes sense to complain about the mess that is the anthology (I really like the story told on the standard version, so I wouldn't change it even if not all of the songs are my favorites), but as a fan, I just like having more songs. There isn't a song I don't like (There are some in her discography I don't like btw) and I like having more songs to listen to. I think one thing they all have in common, it's her honesty as a songwriter and feelings behind it that are all very relatable.

They way you feel about this album is the way I feel about Red. I hate Red. It makes no sense in my eyes. It has amazing songs but as an album I don't like it. You probably get Red and I don't. I get this album. It's definitely not an album anyone was expecting but I was pleasantly surprised personally. Although, if not for the Anthology I probably wouldn't like it as much.

Unpopular opinion. I had no interest in any of the songs except the Anthology tracks and i prefered the acoustic instrumental versions of all the songs. The actual singing melody was meh 😐. Like down bad just in piano is so beautiful in relation to the actual track

I don't hate the tortured Police Department I just think that Taylor Swift did some weird lyric choices with the songs like touch me while your brows play Grand Theft Auto Taylor are you on drugs because that is not something that she would write you one of her songs and also at least with fortnite it makes a whole lot more sense because like fortnite is the British word for 2 weeks but with that lyric it actually has no you translate into another language it doesn't sound cringe stuff

Some of the songs in this album are growing on me, but I also prefer Midnight over TTPD. TTPD feels messy in a way, and I’d rather have an album with 15 songs where they’re all really enjoyable over an album with 30 songs that I don’t remember half of. Also yes TTPD feels like Midnights: The Sequel to me but not in the best way. I don’t hate it but I’m a little underwhelmed NGL.
