I've come across a lot of very similar velvet photo albums, and almost all of them had or have a thin tin floral element on top of the cover. Likely, something like that filled in the floral depression in the front cover of yours.
I’m in the process of making a mid 1890s dress that is inspired by a photo of my 2nd great-grandmother from 1895. I’m making it for my daughter. When I’m done I’m having my daughter’s photo made to recreate the original photo.
All I can say is someone making bedsheets that you used, out of some Very beautiful fabric. Add your vision and you r the epitome of the 'lady of fashion' of the 1880s! And I know a bar pin was the pin preferred at that time. But what is not correct about the cameo style? You did an amazing job, and I would have made you my preference dress maker back then!
Correct me if I'm wrong but we don't get to see much plus size representation in the historical community apart from lady rabecca fashions, so it is quite pleasant to see some of that here
Thank you so much for sharing that photo album. It really is something to behold!! I'm amazed at how far back it goes into the Victorian era. I adore the outfit that you came up with. Absolutely stunning work!
YOU are my kind of Girl…..I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this time period and I feel That I Lived this time In another life…..I will look at pictures read anything about this time….The Clothing was insane I wish there was a Store to buy these thing’s… Looking at those pictures it’s hard to believe they Actually lived and what’s so sad is that they are somebody’s family…..I can’t imagine any families not wanting to keep things like that it’s really sad 😢 You can make BEAUTIFUL Clothing Watching from Virginia 🌹
You could make one or two different skirts, and then change all the shirtwaists to make all the different styles. I would give just about anything to have an historic wardrobe to wear. You are blessed.
I just found your channel because of your IKEA curtains video (which I also loved), but this is just incredible! You could have made a 5 part series out of this and I would have watched every minute! 😊 that corset looks so so so good on you and it turned out great! I hope you keep posting! ❤
Love the final outfit! Would love to see more details on how you drafted the corset! Also looking forward to more from the family album. That is such a cool thing to have!
@@iamvictoriarae good luck and I can’t wait to see more! Also I am totally stealing the huge cushion idea, much simpler than trying to create one of those folding bustle contraptions.
Wish me luck! One day I want to go to the historical society to which my grandpa just gave our historic album. I think he should have guessed I would have been interested in it! It’s most unfortunate I saw it at his house and then next thing you know he had passed away and I found out he had donated it to the local historical society! It had lithographs, really old black and white photographs and it had a bad relief scene of a soldier and maiden in pewter for the cover! Truly an heirloom! I would just like to ask the museum if they even display it and if it’s not a prized piece of theirs, could I please have our family visual history back! Any advice how I could best approach this?
Wow how amazing! I would love to have an álbum like that with photos of my ancestors, just watching how they were must be amazing. I love all your dresses and works. Lovelly vídeos. Xx
In the days if " the bustle " there were chairs made to accommodate it. I know as I Have one. A Victorian sewing chair. Beautiful HEAVILY carved and IMPOSSIBLE to sit in...at least comfortably.( or without a bustle ). Looks good in my reading corner tho😸 Fangs fur sssharing
Brilliant video and wonderful work. I'm planning to make an 1880s dress inspired by my Great Great Grandma Kate Eddowes so your video was very inspiring 🙂
Hello Victoria.....be careful with your old picture album that has the green wallpaper like paper design inside...I've learned they used arsenic in that green color which filled victorian homes, and many people got sick. I think it's worth checking out,..and/or maybe wearing gloves at least in the future. I love watching your talent in sewing!! God Bless you in all your fashion endeavors!!
Thank you for the video, and I hope you do not mind, that fron what I can recall Combinations were around and are accurate to the 2nd Bustle Era. For example, there is a Combinations Pattern from the book "The National Garment Cutter Book of Diagrams" by Goldsberry & Doran, Chicago. [from old catalog]. Which is dated to 1888. It can be found specifically on page 82 and you can find it on "Internet Archive"
What a neat photo album! Keep these dresses coming! The youtube channel Bob Fowler has lots of videos about fixing antique sewing machines. If doing it yourself isn't your jam, he's a good person to have do it.
Coses maravillosamente bien...el corpiño te quedó precioso!! Y tú eres muy guapa, es inusual que una mujer haga estos elogios a otra mujer, pero yo ya soy algo mayor ,y te ves preciosa,Hija!
Oh dear, you didn't learn cursive. That's Jammie, Janie and John - 1910 on the first page. Please learn cursive - it's far too useful to let die... I'm the present keeper of around 150 years of family photos. I have a slightly broken 1910's version of your family photo album. It's so rare these people are kept together these days. Either they are your family, extended family or very good friends. Cart de visit were traded like trading cards. Often you'll find the photographers address. This is a fantastic project. Absolutely beautifully done. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
sooo.. you know what's historicly accurate and you can sew and you have fun with this but I am giessing you are no designer for movies?? prop design? the costumes....

Ooh! Very interesting! I wish mine still had that!
Would have brass plates where the velvet is worn down.

That album is so wonderful. What a gift to have! And your corset is great- I was like, "dang girl, nice hipspring!" Really enjoyed this video.
Thank you!
Good work.
Repurposing textiles was a skill used a lot by our ancestors. My grandmother used to cut down her old dresses to make dresses for her daughters.
Thank you so much for sharing that photo album. It really is something to behold!! I'm amazed at how far back it goes into the Victorian era. I adore the outfit that you came up with. Absolutely stunning work!

It was “bas” relief, the phone changed the letter.
The outfit is very lovely and the album is a super cool thing to have from your family!
The amount of rainbows laid gently over your fabrics in this video is divine, god bless 💝

Hey! I don't think it's been mentioned, but you may want to get the book checked for lead paint. That blue/green color is suspicious to say the least.
I wonder who was my ancestors
