    Wow, I got a Mackie Onyx 32-channel mixer and I was unaware I could use inserts instead of direct outs, so I could maintain all of the mixing with eqs, compressors, reverbs since the direct outs are pre fader instead of post fader. Thanks a million.

    • @RayOrtega
      @RayOrtega  8 месяцев назад

      I think in most cases, certainly in the case of the Mackie in this video, the Inserts are coming directly off the preamps, no effects would be included. So that would be post-PreAmp and pre-EQ, compression, etc. In other cases, if you actually have Direct Outs and not just Inserts, sometimes those can be Post FX.

I plugged my MOX8 L & R to chan 7/8 and that works fine and it freed up one of the chan's for something else...I prefer to leave certain things plugged in to keep from plugging and unplugging them. This is extremely helpful to me. Thank you. Quick question for the community: I will be making six patch cords myself for this purpose. Can I make the end that goes into the insert jack TRS and then the other end of that cable standard TS? I would just not solder one of the connections on the TRS cable end. Background: I am using a XR 12 Behringer and a Behringer rackmount analog mixer. I’m doing it this way for two reasons. First, I suddenly need four more mic inputs. Second, if I have any trouble with the whole Wi-Fi tablet-controlled thing, I can get through a gig with just the rack-mount analog mixer.

    • @RayOrtega
      @RayOrtega  Год назад

      Thanks. Generally I would say no, the inserts are acting as direct outputs in this case. If you had direct outputs those would obviously be better but if you don't have either then you're not going to get separated channels with a USB based mixer that supports them or in the case of a stereo only mixer, you can get two separate channels but only two, using this method ruclips.net/video/Q85QX2rMiL0/видео.html

    Hey, thanks for your video - I'm 5 years late, but the information is golden, and becoming more rare day by day. Thanks. One Click Method, I'll have to remember that. I have an absolutely beautify and unknown 16 ch analog mixer which I bought for a smidge over 25 usd. It is the South Korean, Woosun Focus FC-1602 Professional Mixing Console. I bought it, just to make some noise and explore No-Input Mixing. (The 1/4" or 6.35mm Jack is TRS with the Tip being the carrier.) Does this mean I'll need a specially wired patch cable? If so, how would I wire it? Also, what is the absolutely cheapest, doesn't have to be current, multi-input analog to USB-In interface you'd recommend? I'm looking for a viable interface that will preserve multiple track input into my DAW from this mixer, and your video is the closest I've come to that topic, period. Cheers.

    • @RayOrtega
      @RayOrtega  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes you could do that if the audio interface has multiple inputs, however, if you have a multichannel audio interface already, you can just go into that and don't need the mixer unless the mixer has something special on it that you want to use. So yes, either way would work.

    Ive had mackie profx, then I went to a zoom r16 and now have a behringer xr18.

    I like that workaround for the recording situation, but I am wondering, if I can use this hack also, to provide another aux send signal for an additional stage monitor. If I got you right, this only will work, if I send all outgoing "1-click-signals" separated into another mixer's inputs for being able to adjust every channels volume before finally sending them out to the additional stage monitor. Is that possible?

    • @RayOrtega
      @RayOrtega  Год назад

      That sounds right for two reasons. One, like you say, you'll need to mix these individual signals because they will be coming direct off the board from the preamp only and two, you'll have a bunch of cables that will need to be summed into another device. I don't see a lot of reasons to use it but just wanted people to know it's a thing that can be done ;)

    Using the pan method in your other previous video will allow you allow to still use the insert channel to run to some analog gear (EQ, comp, gate, etc...). If you use the method in this video is there a way to cheat an extra channel into outboard gear if you run through the aux send and return? To clarify, three mics to three channels in the mixer each going to a separate piece outboard gear through the mixer then out to three separate channels to the audio interface.

You helped me with a Mix - Minus setup on my Behringer 1204USB, and it’s been fantastic, however I’m now down-sizing to a smaller mixer and losing the studio mic I have (Rode NT1) and I don’t need any Aux Send or Returns anymore, decided to go with a Mackie Mix5 since I only need 2 stereo inputs without EQ so I can listen to my 2 PCs at the same time and I’m now using a wireless headset which doesn’t require input to the mixer for the mic, it’s straight USB from the base station to 1 PC. I will miss the quality of my NT1 but I’m only gaming without streaming so headset mic is fine, and switching between sitting at PC and walking around a room-scale VR setup is where a wireless headset will be so convenient. But thanks to you I’ve had the best audio experiences thus far! :)

    2 Acoustic Guitars
    1 Digital Piano

      Hi, Nan, you're only real option in your setup is probably to pan the channels you want to hear on one side to that side and then yourself to the other. Essentially if you want multitrack, you need a multitrack mixer/interface and then coming out of that you need either individual headphone outputs that are on the mixer or your own headphone mixer which lets you control the individual tracks coming in so that you can make all the instruments and mics at the exact volume you want to hear in your ears. This is what we do in my own band but of course it's not a cheap setup. This video I did is for a digital mixer that has a few headphone outputs that allow you the same kind of control over the individual channels. ruclips.net/video/gbvtGJiRbTw/видео.html

    Hi there, love your channel. I am new to mixers but I'm using the fx aux to do a mix minus so I get my mic and a Skype caller into my Zoom H6. I separate the them into 2 tracks using the pan as you described, but I get bleed over or something causing my mic voice sound to be heard in the media other track that is panned to the other speaker supposedly. It's ok for now because after minor post editing the two tracks get mixed back together to be used with the video of the podcast with caller. But one day I may want complete separation out of my mixer and I don't want to have noise reduce to such a great degree because I'm hearing mic on the media track. I'm using the Behringer 1202fx.. is that likely just the norm for that mixer? And is there a cheap fix for this I wonder? Thanks! Stan

    • @RayOrtega
      @RayOrtega  5 лет назад +1

      Hi, Stan, thanks for following my channel! The bleed over from each channel onto the other is likely just the quality of the mixer. I think this can be an issue with cheaper mixers but definitely something you might want to look into deeper when you decide to upgrade. That said, you'd probably be better off just getting into a truly multichannel option so you don't need to use the pans and can have more tracks separated if needed. That's the upgrade I'd look at. Or it it's even possible the use the H6 in a mix-minus setup because you select which channels come out of the line out and therefore you can input the channels you need to the H6 and not have the caller's audio go back to them. Another option would be to look at using a service like Zencastr.com which will allow you to record yourself and remote guests separately and the audio is better than Skype because it's recorded locally on the other person's computer.

    I've just noticed it is even written on the back of the Behringer Xenyx X2222USB. It states "PRE-FADER/PRE-EQ TIP = SEND RING = RETURN". So I assume if you have, for example, a Behringer UMC1820 Audio Interface like I do this method would fit the bill to produce a full featured analogue/digital mixing solution with 8 analogue inputs and outputs for each module.
    Ray, even though it is written in black and white on the unit itself, features such as these would not be apparent without you sharing your knowledge in a searchable format. Thank you very much for doing this. Kind regards.

I recorded many Indian-styled songs and uploaded them on RUclips but never use Mixer because I record my song with many many tracks for different instruments. For many many tracks, how do I use a mixer for e.g. 100 tracks means what size mixer do I need? I am very confused. Please guide me. Thanks.

    I have an mg12xu Yamaha mixer. Do I still have to get another type of equipment to obtain a multichannel recording? I was able to record with xlr to Studio One DAW but when I try using 2 mics I get that issue where both tracks activate. The Yamaha site only provides one driver and it's asio4all. I'm not exactly sure how to use that driver so, I'm using an mgxu yamaha driver from an external site but works per channel. Any suggestions?

    Are there special cables that allow you to push the 1/4 all the way in the insert so it will not be a short and work like all channels because at times the channel does get cancelled by putting it half way and I don't have time to check the tracks to see if they are working.

    • @RayOrtega

      It's a good question and I'm not sure but my guess is that way is occurring, what is making this possible is the jack itself more than it is the cable.

    Hi Ray thanks for the information on inserts. I would like to connect an eight track Fostex D-80 to my Behringer RX1202fx mixer. From your video I'm guessing I can connect the 8 output channels from the Fostex to the line in sockets 1 to 8 on the mixer, then take standard 1/4 inch jacks {plugged into first click} back to the 8 input channels on the Fostex. I'll feed the Left and right main out to a stereo amp with a master recorder connected, another Fostex, a D-15. Assuming this is ok, could I split the line in between the D-80 and, say a keyboard using a patch bay? That way I could record different instruments on each of the eight channels.
