I'd really wish people would stop naming GTA every time yakuza franchise is, because they are so different
Really?!... I never knew people compared the two, that's dumb as hell, the two franchises literally have nothing in common...
@@Osama-KIN_TMZ01 I mean they both take place in cities, are third person, are semi-open world, have lots of side content diversions and focus on criminal activities as the main story theme with a lot of tension breaking humor in between story beats. They have SOME things in common.

@@nelsonhill4625 GTA v doesnt have near the amount of activities that yakuza games have. Nor is any gta "Semi open world". They both focus on crime, and thats where they depart. Yakuza is more of a beat em up focused on story, and gta is sort of a sandbox, with a story.
Sega deserves all the love and support, their games are not high budget and grand like Ubisoft and EA but whatever they create, they create with love and car. Hardly any glitches, hardly any frame rate drops, no loot boxes and patches.
Despite being small, there world is much alive and appealing than big maps like Odyssey and Fall Out
Odyssey and fallout have way more immersion

Or putting a voice character in a game series that previously pioneered a complicated and diverse dialogue system so that you the only dialogue options you can select are generic questions and a poorly delivered sarcastic response?
I mean, I'm not saying that judgement is the most immersive game in the world, but the ones you listed have blatantly sacrificed a winning design philosophy to gamify their mechanics to sucker in the casual player base and tick corporate boxes.
@@AlexxxxxSaysHi Odyssey universe is dead! All NPC's are roaming around doing nothing, half of side missions are "just deliver this", overall weather system, the grass, wildlife, horse mechanics everything seems dead and generic. Like you are just running around a big map doing quests

My younger brother who has downs syndrome who can't read has played this game to completion like 5 times. He loves it. I'm so grateful to whoever's idea it was to dub this in english.

@Jeremiah Atkins I'd say so. Although comparing old Dreamcast games to Yakuza is a bit unfair. Yakuza 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2 and 6 are all remade on PS4. Yakuza 3,4 and 5 are also getting a HD port to ps4. That's 7 Yakuza games all with one main character who you're with for hundreds of hours watching him go from a rookie gangster to a literal legend of Japan Yakuza.

@@frankiepollock7380 I'm so confused ...comparing old PS2 games to Yakuza? Shenmue is Sega Dreamcast and Yakuza is the one that started on PS2 a little under a year before the PS3 was released in Japan.

@Jeremiah Atkins what are you referring to with the ryo learns styles statement? We're not talking about comparing gameplay mechanics etc with yakuza moreover just comparing the dreamcast or new 'remastered' versions of the game to modern Yakuza games which is quite a leap in years

Just finished the game with 28.9% Completion Rate and damn, what a ride! Amazing story, action and full of content with maybe a little bit repetitive gameplay still deserves a solid 9/10 or 4.5/5 stars.

The company made another one, but it was some weird point and click game. It was triad based. No returning characters.

I'm happy they used Takuya Kimura as the main character as he also played a prosecutor in a very popular Japanese TV drama "Hero". Great TV series. I will just think of this game as a extension of that character in the TV series
The main reason why i bought the game!
I felt at time's his 2 fighting styles were between Kiryu's and Majima's. That's what I loved most about the game.
It's a shame Max Scoville couldn't review this, he loves the Yakuza games
The game is kinda reminicint of the Jackie Chan films with the fighting, parkour chase sequenses. I might give this game a go.
Absolutely love this game. Incredible story, game play and battle mechanics are fantastic and more evolved than Yakuza 6. Only gripe is the tailing missions and lack of "failure" in investigation. But this, like the Yakuza games rely on the amazing story to be supported by the gameplay so I guess that makes sense. 9/10 easy.

In all fairness...I do think 6 was the weakest Yakuza game (not counting the out of continuity Dead Souls, which I've never played).

Yeah. Everything is meant to be experienced in its original language.
The Metros in Russian, Witchers in Polish, Yakuzas in Japanese.
This goes for every form of entertainment (Movies, series, anime, cartoons, whatever)
Its just that most english speakers have crappy reading skills and use "i can't focus on the subs and the action at the same time" as an excuse.
Tbh yagami speaks a little bit better and matches his voice to his personality in English while In Japanese he sounds a bit too manly for his characteristics

But how is the story repetitive exactly?
It's filled with great animations and art, and constantly evolving, it isn't repetitive in the least. I wouldn't necessarily say Judgment story is better than Y0 for example, but for me it was top tier at least in the Yakuza franchise.

The original voice acting is by a Japanese ICON, Takuya Kimura, not to mention his likeness! Famous for playing public prosecutor roles for years! Check out HERO! This man is a hype machine!! To play with English dub is such a crime!!

Rick Betts I've played this series for all these years subbed, only dubbed I've played was the first Yakuza. Definitely doesn't feel right as a English dub.

This game looks perfect for me. I loved sleeping dogs, and played some yakuza games (although it was ages ago and don’t remember it entirely) this looks better, with a linear story (I am a simple man who likes linear games and is a fan of naughty dog games) plus the combat looks exciting. I recommend for myself and others we should wait till a sale then buy this. 👍

WHY are the footstep Sound FX always so LOUD in these games!? You are constantly hearing it and it’s mixed way too loud, stopped me from playing.

I'd say start with Yakuza 0, because that's the one that made me get into the Yakuza series. Finished Kiwami 1 within two weeks when it came out and currently finishing Kiwami 2. Gotta say Yakuza 0 is still the best one for me

Yagami somewhat reminds me of Tetsuo Kurata/ Minami Kotaro a.k.a Kamen Rider Black... I hope that Sega would create his outfit that we can use in the game.
One thing surprised me that this game has an actual English Dub unlike most Yakuza games outside the first one on the PS2.

5:53 That clipping, how do you not fix that? Also, why does the graphics look a lot worse here?
Looking at it, it's hard to tell with the boxes in the way, but it's not clear if that is actually clipping. He leans to the right slightly as he leans forward, I just the fabrics of their sleeves mildly grazing each other as he leans into position.

@@darkestification what's so funny? i've played every yakuza game and enjoyed them all a lot. I played the demo for judgment and the review scores in Japan were very high... pre ordering it is a very safe bet... plain and simple.

Is there a reason why they spelt judgement wrong?
The game is called Judgment, not Judgement. People get the name confused often...those words don't mean the same thing.
The mortal wounds are the most irritating feature. I hated being forced to run back to the doctor. And no cabaret missions is a letdown.
You can carry med packs but they're not cheap.
there's a very easy way to prevent mortal wounds most players have missed
I think they didn’t do karaoke in this one because of the dual audio. Imagine the English VA’s trying to sing in Japanese
And because the Japanese voice actor for Yagami is one of the most popular singers and actors in Japan and is considered an idol with an extremely strict management, getting him to sing would have been pricier than the entire budget of the game.

Great review. Any news for an Xbox release? They said they wanted to open to new markets, especially for this spin-off series, to make it profitable.
I don't think they are any of these games on an Xbox console. They are coming on PC though which is what I think they mean. A problem with Xbox is that the console is dead in Japan and they always release games in Japan first so they don't tend to bother with an Xbox version
@@michaelsologor2130 Makes sense. The producer was afraid it would not make enough money because it is a spin-off. It seems very popular however. Maybe he had the Switch in mind. When asked about Xbox he was vague. I thought that it could happen if the sales were very poor but it's not the case for now. It won't happen for Yakuza for sure.
