Hate to break it to you, IGN, but every battle system doesn't need to be the same as Batman Arkham City.
Exactly
***** Yeah, but if you aren't trying to make your battle system like Arkham City, it makes no sense to judge it by that standard.
Leeloo-Dallas-Multi-Pass Erm... I feel like you counterargued yourself there.
Yakuza and Arkham fighting systems are nothing alike so it doesn't make sense to compare them.
Yakuza is way more arcade-y. It's a beatemup after all. I would never want the Arkham fighting style to be in this series and vice versa.
Leeloo-Dallas-Multi-Pass ...You do realize what "I stand corrected" means, right?
And I have no idea what you mean by that first part.
I actually want a batman beatemup, I'm tired of the meh combat of the arkham series. Make a batman hack and slash game (with punches and stuff) ala platinumgames or make a beatemup with a lot of depth.
Comparing Yakuza's combat to Batman Arkham series is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
the problem is that, the comparison, is not done well, instead of looking if this combat fits this game, the reviewer goes out of his way to say that, because the game DOESNT use arkham style combat, it is inferior. which is wrong.
now theres not problem with prefering one over the other, but that shouldnt be the "go to" default, expecially since we have so many arkham clones. with the vast majority, not very fun.
for every shadow of mordor, we get a hands of fate, now dont get me wrong, HoF is an amazing game, but the combat is hands down(no pun intended) the worst part of that game. and is the biggest problem, in an otherwise stellar game.
J. Mike Yakuza is open district - not open world. Also, Batman requires you to press the same button and then wait to counter. They're not the same at all. That's like comparing Mario Kart to Gran Turismo and saying that Mario Kart's driving mechanics are more realistic.
Ryan Nguyen u right and batman is bs tho
batman arkham is more like assasins creed, which is more like the same button mashing
Batman is an amazing game, but the comparison between the two games by the reviewer is bs! LOL
If you come to IGN for an intelligent & informed review, you're going to have a hard time.

@@moranii1843 I think Yakuza 0 is better than the review of gave.

It has an 8.5, saved you from watching that annoying Google ad.
Sean McCord how do i put adblock?
I'd like them to keep making videos. So I turn off adblock for IGN, and others I care for.
+Nich Hustler Yep, because one more person watching the ads will make a difference.
Theblade12
You don't know how many people think that way.
But simple persons are simple... they read something from 1 person, so the total amount is... 1.
Sean McCord you the real mvp
Goro is a playable character - 10/10
is he playable with a full storyline?
i mean 30 hours for kiryu and another 30 hours for majima?
Jony zom yes, you alternate between the characters as you progress through the story. Like for example, you play as one character for two chapters and then switch over to the other character on the third chapter and so forth. Each one has an individual storyline and by the end of the game, both storylines will intertwine with one another. They also have different set of skills so it always feels like you’re unlocking something new for the characters every second which is very nice.
Jony zom as for 30 hours each, it will depend if you do the side stuff for each character. I believe maximum play time with both characters is 30 hours if you just focus on the story maybe even less. But if you do the side stuff then yea, you can easily hit 60 hours and more with each character.
@@NovaSniper12 thank you friend now i understand how it works
@@jonyzom6055 yes
It lost 1.5 because it's not batman... ok?
@@ChrisJohnson1988 IGN is on crack with that statement but come on dude Bruce would eat Kiryu for breakfast lol you really think a guy who has fought Kryptonians without Kryptonite would lose to an average ex-gangster? Kiryu is basically your average comic book goon in strength
Whats the point compare fictional character power? I mean, even saitama can one punch batman if you use that logic 😂

Glad Yakuza has it's turn in the spotlight. Ps4 should be a good place to attract new fans and keep the series coming to the West.
Victor Richardson they're not going to get new fans until they give It an English dub. it makes it more intimidating for new players. the only people who like it are already established fans or people fascinated with Japanese culture, but contrary to popular belief, that is not everyone. it should have both options, an English dub for newcomers, and the traditional japanese with subtitles for those who want it. nobody wants to read a video game.
Jay Clark I agree. The dub was removed after the first game but I believe it should return.
Honestly, I do agree with the reviewer one thing. The combat is a bit clunky and has been for a LONG time. We are in an age where technology is advancing. The combat should be fluid by now.
RedemptionIsRessurected2 yeah, i noticed the combat was more light and feathery, where as modern combat games, even games like final fantasy 15, all have a weight to them, like there is power behind the punches. I know this sounds odd because it is a video game after all, but the combat feels cartoonish. I'm not saying it has to be super realistic, but it's silly. I genuinely thought this was a ps3 port when i first saw it.
Jay Clark then that's exactly what yakuza 6 has
This is one of the greatest games ever. One of the best stories in games, great gameplay and tons of side content. Should’ve got 9 or higher.
It's IGN what did you except
nah 8.5 is definitely fair
@@Brvhstinit would’ve been fair if it didn’t come from ign. They would’ve been better off giving it a higher score with their nitpicks
GTA: Open World Third Person Shooter.
Yakuza: Open District Beat-em-up RPG.
Almost nothing alike, so stop comparing them.
Edit: Okay, open district isn't a real genre, I guess I meant to say Semi-open world.
Because the theme is alike though. Gangsters/mobsters except that yakuza promoted good values
Their isn’t such thing as an open district game lmao and the games r similar yes that is y they’re compared
Exactly. In my opinion Yakuza has just as much material to offer because the map is so detailed and full of interactive events.
the only comparison was between the 80's nostalgising between this and vice city which is a pretty apt one imo. come on, i know it's IGN, but dont be hating for hating's sake
I bet you are japanese
Sega: you want more games like this
fans: YES!!!!!
Sega: OK give them more sonic
Odd, I thought we were getting Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 6...
@blozzybabe2
And now we just got Kiwami 2 and, coming soon, Judge Eyes...
Most hilarious comment here🤣
lmfao
@@mercka4583 Judgement Eyes is basically a bunch of stuff they made for other Yakuza games but couldn't figure out how to force them into a regular Yakuza game, right?
Why the hell is he comparing this to GTA and about the battle mechanics to Arkham series?
He calls a game with actual combat archaic while praising Arkham's press x to do everything combat.
smh
Garrett938 All he did was say that gta vice city did a better job embracing that it was in the 80s, it was barely a comparison
While you're not wrong with your comment, he is comparing it to a game that is set in an entirely different culture. If anyone would know what Japan was like in the 80's surely it would be the Japanese.
The very reason why Yakuza series didn't get the spotlight it deserves in the west.
+15thCrypt I disagree. The review is clearly biased as the reviewer has no clue what "80s nostalgia in redlight districts of Japan" felt like. The game is a very good representation of the nostalgia, if you are familiar to it.
And yes, I freakin' GREW UP in Osaka during the 80s, this hits home.
Ahhh yes. Yakuza 0, the game with over 100 Plot twists
What's more
Plot twists
Or Kuze battles?
MadMan12 not only plot twists, but also the dont make sense scenes
Like the scene where Lee died of explosion, not long after that Sagawa got shot by Sera on his chest and then fell on the ground, like a normal human who got shot on the chest
But the next scene is Sagawa, barely any signs of just being shot hours before, torturing Majima.
The only explanation is this Sagawa guy is carrying the same DNA as Wolverine
@@thefourthchairman4151 You're arguing for why there should be real world logic in a game that has you power-bomb a dude's head into the pavement and expect you to believe he's not completely dead at the end of it.

Did u really say the arkham games have better fighting. Right because pressing attack until the big counter sigh pop up is more fun. Yakuza combat is way better.
If you played Arkham that way then you only have yourself to blame for not enjoying it. The game rewards you for mixing things up, and you have around 45 different attacks you can combo together by the end of AK. Never mind environmental stuff.
I mean you could play DMC or Bayonetta also only spamming one or two types of attack, that would also miss the point.
Yeah, Arkham is way too simple and automatic for my tastes, Japanese devs usually have a better understanding on how to add depth and the like to a fighting system.
Yakuza's combat is more in line with Virtua Fighter
As much as i love those games, that comparison stuck out like a sore thumb
You are correct that you're missing out by playing that way in the Arkham series, but the difference in DMC or Bayonetta is that if you do play very limitedly and just button mash... you really can't even beat the game. Unless you're talking about the DMC reboot, in which case, button mash your way to victory.
Plus, Yakuza shits all over the Arkham series (especially Arkham Knight) when it comes to boss fights.
This game is too rad for the minds of the people at IGN.
Underrated game/series.

Says one negative thing, 8.5... wtf how does that make it lose 15%.
8.5 is very high for a game that doesn't look like new gen
Maybe read the full review?
Are you honestly up in arms about an 8.5? It's good, sit down.
Well, it wasn't new gen. It was released on Playstation 3 two years ago in Japan.
Why do you start with quotation mark. Who are you quoting? Yourself? Anyway, if you spend a decent portion of the game fighting, and the fighting is a little out of date, then you will feel that the whole games and remove 15% accordingly.
More than that 8.5 is a great score, literally says great next to it.
The Yakuza´s fighting system is the most violent, spectacular and real pain inducer 3d game fighting system ever, Arkham series fighting is about reflexes and great animation but lacks of the depth and possibilities of that of Yakuza.
Yes. The fighting in Arkham is dull compared to this.
Are you serious? Yakuza is a great beat 'em up, but the Arkham series has lots of enemy types, more moves and more gadgets and rewards the players for using them.
If depth and possibilities to u is picking up a bike or curb stomping a guy, you're obsessed wit a basic system that's been in place since sleeping dogs. You've insulted both Yakuza and Arkham foh boi lmfaoo
Sleeping dogs has a pretty brutal combat systolic too
Yakuza came out before sleeping dogs
Ign wants all fighting systems to be just like Arkham lmao
Every other piece of AAA schlock gets a 10/10 when this just gets an 8.5.
*Baka Mitai intensifies*
Definitely getting Yakuza 0, reminds me of Dream Cast games.
like shinmue but too bad it isn't English dubbed
+TheEgyptianOne you bet, i love shenmue
TheEgyptianOne yeah, right... a japanese setting with japanese people speaking crappy english. this will fit for sure and not ruin it, like the dub made for Yakuza1 not ruined the whole game experience.
Dave B Of course it will fit. Japanese and Chinese films, games, etc have always had a culture around cheesy American dubbing. So you never watched one of those old cheesy kung fu movies in their cheesy English dubbing?
TheEgyptianOne This is the most stupid thing to read. Did you ever see the original western dubbed released of the first game on Ps2. The dub was so bad, it made me stop to play the game and order the japanese version. There were so much complaints, so Sega was forced to release a subbed version of the 2nd title in the series and never ever bothered again with a dub. It is simply not working. It may work with some cheesy HK movies, that were released in traditional chinese, cantonese and english from beginning, but definitly not with a videogame series like this one.
Now these are the type of diversions I wish were in more open world/western type of games. This game looks like a lot of fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. It looks like a blast!

Swhite2020 The PS4 has more diversity which the Xbox One is lacking. Being the key point you're dancing over, what sells well doesn't matter. What does matter, is that me and several friends are picking up seven to nine games on Ps4 in the next three months. I couldn't say that if I only owned an Xbox One.
Swhite2020 your stupid
I love the arkham series, but the comparisson with the yakuza's combat doesn't makes any sense at all, because the batman's combat is based in some sort of fastplaced "action/reaction" system, with some "automatic" execution, more based in the spectacullary of the choreography than the manual control of all your actions (like shadow of mordor, or even assassins creed, and don't take me wrong, i like those systems to), while yakuza combat is based in the classics old school beat'em'ups systems like streets of rage, final fight, figting four....that means: the "tempo" is waaaay slower and lees Choreographed, and you can hit the enemies with different attacks, with different MANUAL combos between them, with also, in this case, 3 different styles for each character, plus some grabs and/or projections, with a lot of different finishers/heat moves/special attacks, or you can even use the scenario itself or the constant objects you find on it as a weapons, and you can block, dash, roll to deffend yourself etc......
Its not a mater of what system is better (wich depends on the taste of the player), you simply can't compare them, because they want totally different targets :)
This is GOTY
this combat is much more complex than batmans simple counter system.

It looks like it from the review and footage but I never played a yakuza game cause they have no English dub. If they have a shenmue 1 and 2 English dub then this should have it as well.
The voice actors of this game are legend, it would be a discrace. Also it would be like dubbing a critically acclaimed foreign film
J-Ryder
Japanese shows, games and anime have always had a strong culture around English and other languages when it comes to dubbing. It is certainly not like dubbing any foreign movie. I watched my first anime in Arabic back when I lived in Egypt. Japan has that world wide culture around dubbing it's anime in a couple of languages. in the Arab world it is dubbed in Arabic and we get anime that Americans don't get because we are basically closer to japan and closer to the Asian culture.
It is not like dubbing the God Father in Spanish or something lol like i said, Japanese and Chinese shows and movies have a huge culture around its dubbing and sometimes that dubbing is much funnier than the original. Have you watched the Bruce lee or any kongfu movies in the English dub? They are the funniest and cheesiest thing ever, much better than the original.
TheEgyptianOne It's just a preference. I would never buy this game if it didn't have Japanese voices. I would miss their Japanese accents. In my country dubs are uncommon.
TheEgyptianOne only yakiza1 got english dub and after this crap sega never did it again. yakuza2 was japanese va only and obviously you never touched it.

Wait, how is the combat here not as lucrative as the Batman Arkham games? You literally just punch and counter endlessly, as where Yakuza has multiple fighting styles, finishing moves, unique combos and numerous ways to counter enemy attacks.
I suspect the reviewer forgot the rest of the buttons, and just mashed square the entire game.
All he said was that Yakuza 0's combat isn't as fluid and buttery as the Arkham games. I also believe that he shouldn't have made that comparison, but you guys are making it sound as if he said "Arkham combat > Yakuza combat".

0:46 thats it im not watching this video
kazooma kiryu and goro majeema
Do yourself a favour and watch the Gamespot review instead. Gamespot review: No spoilers, actually reviews the game, no comparisons to Batman games, proper critiques and the reviewer can pronounce Yakuza properly.
What is this guy smokin? Batmans combat system is garbage compared to Yakuza
@@wildforce1433 Opinions. But I highly disagree. I find it to be one of the best combat systems in gaming history. However.. I still find it dumb that they compared with Yakuza.. since they are very different
N M yeah, I guess. I just love Yakuza so I’m a bit biased
Especially when you have to do certain actions to defeat certain enemy types
continuing the strong year for ps4...
I never though I would like this game, but after finishing it. I absolutely loved every bit of it. Highly suggest it to anyone interested.
Only just picked this up - loving it so far and they nailed kabuki-cho and it made me very nostalgic for my old home...
Why do you guys always have to compare one game to another. Why compare it to Batman? Doesn't have to be the same type of fighting system.
I disagree about the comments made about the combat system, especially about the notion that it is inferior to the batman arkham games combat. Sure, it may not be as fluid as those games, but its lack of fluidity gives the player more control of everything you do and increases the playability which makes it more interesting, and more exciting. Whereas in the arkham games the fluidity makes it a bit too automated and self playing.
arkham is too easy, because of its combat system, 80% of the time, all you have to do is press triangle(or Y) and the fight will be over. the other times, the fight will require a gimmick, that is equally sploitable.
im not sayign the arkham style is bad, far from it, shadow of mordor works amazingly well with it, better than the batman games even. but most of the time, we get hands of fate, another amazing game, but that loses alot of its charm, because they went with this combat.
Playing Yakuza 4 now :')
This month Yakuza 5 is on sale in PSstore
Never played a Yakuza game before, Should I get this?
HELL YES!!!
8.5 = It's enough to buy it.
God damn this review awakened so much childhood memories in me. The entire game seems like a mix between an 80s/90s arcade game and an intriguing and sophisticated old school Metal Gear Solid game from the early 2000s. Plus it has one if the best looking female legs I have ever seen in videogames. 😍Thanks for this review!!! I will probably have great fun with this game :)
