yep! Been a Slipknot fan since basically the beginning. Once Paul died, then Joey's departure the band hasn't quite been the same(altho I loved their music throughout)...a line-up change then was out of necessity. 2 albums with the re-formed line-up and now members seem to be dropping like flies. The trajectory of the band now deoesn't seem too promising. I mean what next?! They've had a good run I suppose. But eventually all good things come to an end...whether we like it or not.
Bro they tried to stage an intervention for Paul for his drug use and not one of the members in the band would try to help him they don't care about each other all that brotherhood talk is a lie
Duh as you all throw cash at them and all they had to do is sqy they dont want it 🤣🤣 this dont sell out b S. Is sold out 🤣🤣 turns out you can pay to be underground🤣
They knew Jay ever since he was a child. He had connections with them through his father. After knowing him for over 20 years they kicked him over the phone and released a statement that they want to evolve and needs a more creative drummer. Thats brotherhood for ya!!
They seriously need to just retire already these firings are literally killing the fanbase. They hit the self destruct button when they fired Chris and now on top of that Jay with Craig leaving for health reasons i think
Sad to say but "you have become the very thing you swore to destroy" is the most fitting thing about this. Rip Paul, Rip Joey, you will forever be missed
Jay was a massive slipknot fan his whole life. He’s given us his blood and heart for this band for 10 years. All fir nothing… I truly thought jay would always be with them..
I never knew how much the band failed Paul Gray in his hour of need. That's so pathetic and despicable considering how, after the fact, they turned his death into so much marketing fodder, going as far as to include his name in the title of the 5th record. I knew the whole unity and brotherhood bit was a bunch of bs but that really puts things into perspective.
Them not showing up to his intervention is new news to me. Maybe they all had resentment still after hating each other since the Iowa days? He could still be alive.....
Fucking sad hey. Paul was such a good dude too but even if for some reason he wasn't all the time,it doesn't f**kin matter,he was their brother. I found it extra disturbing that the dude playing golf instead, most likely Chris Fehn, was doing that being so close. I always thought he was cool🤔 But yeah,I've actually been over this "band" for quite awhile now. Iam glad I seen them years ago with everyone still there.
Paul Gray failed himself the minute he first put that syringe in his arm. Your comment is the dumbest fuckin thing I've ever read in a Slipknot video. Signed, An OG Maggot
Joey was the reason I started drumming. When I found out he was kicked from the band, I was so angry, and heart broken, and when I saw they found a replacement, I knew I was going to judge him harshly... But then I heard him play, and I saw him in the music video, and I didn't have a single bad thing to say. I was blown away by how cool he looked, how amazing his playing was, the energy he brought, everything about him was just... Awesome. I loved him, and accepted him into the band immediately. His sound on the kit was so unique to me, and I just fell in love with his style. I watched him play live 4 times with Slipknot, and everytime he was on stage, he was such a fucking beast. I felt his presence. The other day when I heard the news, my heart broke again the same way it did when I heard about Joey. I havent agreed with a lot of the people they parted ways with, but this was the final straw for me. Im so disappointed with this decision, and honestly after Craig too, I just look at this band so different. This video just reinforced my feelings about how ive felt like Slipknot is becoming more of a buisness than a band. Glad to know im not the only one whos noticed.
@@snakerooni he was still kicked out of the band, and hes talked about how he was angry they kicked him out via email, and for thinking he was on drugs, when it was a misunderstanding about his medical condition. He didn't choose to leave
Loved him but couldn't be bothered to intervene in his drug usage, Joey was a turd burglar just like the rest of them. Fuck em all, even Paul, had a child on the way and couldn't be bothered to get clean.
I went to see them last year in Seattle, and the whole thing felt like the Corey Taylor show. All the focus was on him. Between songs, it would be a focus on him with all the others kind of sitting in the back in the dark. It just kinda felt like it was a circus and he was the ringmaster. That was my 7th time seeing them, and I was so disappointed that I pretty much just lost all hope in the band. I was a late bloomer, but I got to see the original lineup when they went on tour with Deftones. That was such an amazing show!
he should just retire, he's 50+ with kids and it's fine; the down times in the live shows are very long and very often, plus every time he sees someone fainting he stops the show to care about some random person in the crowd, like the show doesn't have to pay and everyone else doesn't have to pay because he cares about random people, it's fine cuz he has the empathy but in slipknot he's not supposed to be corey but just a number doing his job
@@n1lknarflolol you sound like a stupid young kid speaking like that. It’s a GOOD thing that he stops the show to make sure ppl are fine. They aren’t “random” ppl to him they are his fans. The right thing would be to stop playing to make sure that person gets attention if they need it. He’s not supposed to let someone possibly die. Dumbass.
Unfortunately I never saw the original lineup I was too young to be going to metal concerts lol. I guess I am a late bloomer. But at least there’s videos of them playing live. And you’re right, it’s just a fuckin circus now. Just a huge circlejerk for Corey Taylor. You should look up “CMFT” a song Corey made about himself. Super arrogant and one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard. It’s so unbelievably bad.
@@worldaswar3784 Oh hooooooooooooooo, LOTS OF MONEY WAS INVOLVED, and what did we do? We split it fours ways and had a final practice party, floated 10 kegs, and went out with our fans. My last gift to the guys, I spent my money buying them a Les Baer 1911 in coal black etched on both sides of the slide with our last show date, band name and logo. The next Saturday, we went to the gun club we're members of and dueled on the dueling tree. Last place buying dinner that evening for each of us and our families. So go fuck yourself, potato. You have no idea how a band works. Signed, An OG Maggot
@@BobMonkeypimp yeah - he was so good and spectacular that they did incorporate sections of shows where he performed alone - people loved him and I bet Slipknot was pretty proud having him.
@@CobraFat2000Slipknot was Joey’s and Paul’s baby…the other members were honoured to share the stage with him. Slipknot without Joey and Paul would not exist. Let’s not flip the history of the band.
It sucks to know that guys like Jim, Mick, Sid can also be easily swept away like Jay. Corey and Shawn seem to have become corrupted by power and control. Let’s see what happens…
@tapa.207 Oh I ain't faulting him. I just think it's funny that they chose to keep him anonymous in the video but gave away that he was doing the only thing that a very specific member does
A director named Chad Calek made this documentary on Slipknot called A Clown Short of Destiny which shed light on some of the band's not-so-great dealings in Des Moines. It had a brief circulation at independent film festivals but hasn't been released since.
Peak Slipknot is of course the first 3 albums. Before Vol 3 we didnt really know who the men behind the masks were, but you could identify with them more. Maybe it's just because i was younger then and needed an outlet, but now i don't feel excited about a new release. All the albums since Vol. 3 have had their moments but I think they should have called it a day quite a while ago. I'll love them forever but I think I'm in love with a memory rather than what they've become. It's obvious, even without seeing this video that a couple of the members see this as a business or a 'project', and the other guys have to fall in line. The original members (from the first album) are who fans identify with. They achieved greatness in the first 3/4 albums. After Paul and Joey sadly dying, and Chris leaving, the new guys just didnt stand a chance. Jay is obvs an incredible drummer but it just wasn't the same. But that's just life. For everyone who was there at the beginning, just be glad we had those years 👍
because a band isnt defined by there entire discography. its usually based on their first few albums. then bands 'progress' into different shit. listen to husker du's first album vs the last one. i always thought husker du were a weird alt band but yeah, they were fast as fuck hardcore in the beginning. what im trying to say is, you can love a band based on literally one album but actively hate the rest of their discography. its fine@@shinboke55
All Hope Is Gone is nice and all, but imo it sounds so shallow compared to anything prior, and while I think Vol 5 and onwards are more creative (haven't fully heard the latest 2 albums), I also think they're also kind of pretentious
It sucks seeing all this unveil before our very eyes. It is what it is though. There is quite literally nothing that we as fans can do about it. By any means necessary, both Corey and Shawn need to publicly address this whole situation with band members leaving unexpectedly. From Chris’ departure, which is understandable, to Jay. Something isn’t adding up. I have their ninogram star tatted on my right forearm. No matter what happens, this legion of ‘brothers’ past, present and future will all hold a very special place in my heart. Thank you for everything you’ve done Jay. Long live the Knot. 🤘🏼
Sorry to spell this out but once you see it, you can’t unsee it. Clown fired Jay so he can replace with his own son (drummer). The next move will be Corey retiring and replacing himself with his own son (vocals). It’s the only thing that makes logical sense at this point.
@ericjames7948 It's sad to look back to this, but a part of me is thinking it was the plan for his late daughter to take his place on stage. Wouldn't shock me if Corey chose Griffin to replace himself either. I cold only imagine a world where all the members of Slipknot were the bands own children.😅
Definitely going to happen. Drummer is going to be clowns kid and when Corey steps down, he's been making hints how he can't do this much longer, his kid will be taking over. I seen their band last week and they sounded just like Slipknot voice and all.
It's amazing they've been around as long as they have. Anyone who's ever been in a band with even ONE musician can understand how much of a cosmic clusterfuck 9 members would be.
I've been through this exact same thing with friends before. One is spiraling into drug addiction and I'm the only one who tries to do anything. I call for an intervention and it just sparks a civil war between friends. I had one friend saying, "theyre their own person making their own choices". Well thats not really true when you're consumed by drugs is it? He ended up an addict himself, all of them did. There's a lot of layers to it, it's a really complex issue. You don't wanna see your family destroy themselves, you run away out of fear, you try to apply tough love, maybe you can't take it anymore and turn your back, all these things happen.
Do all that you can to help your friend!! ❤ even if it won't end in an intervention at this point, better than not doing anything to try to help. All the best!
Fr, I feel like every week I am seeing some sh*t online like "Corey Taylor gets into heated argument with Machine Gun Kelly" or "Corey Taylor disses Tool" or Corey Taylor talkin trash about someone else... I'm like how old is this guy? He reminds me of me when I was 15-16. Seems like a prick tbh, even though I like Slipknot. Just wish he was more like a respected elder statesman of metal instead of some hothead
They can say the band is bigger than the members, but it’s not. That sound has changed so much. It sounds like everything else on the radio now. That unique sound died with Joey. I don’t care what anyone says. Every album after ahig just sounds like one continuous song with no soul.
100% agree. I was the biggest slipknot fan in highschool. I was in line to be the first in the country to own Vol.3, I slept in the snow to be first in line at concerts, I made sure to meet the guys and got Joey to sign a part of my drum kit (a replica of his from the Disasterpieces DVD) and knew everything, followed every info and news about them and then Paul died....everything changed. I haven't bought an album or even cared enough to listen to them online because it's become so....soulless.
@@mikepalmer1971 exactly. The ones before, so Gray Chapter, WANYK at least had a few good songs and original sound, but TESF is literally 100% crap. I´ve never had to skip through a slipknot Album on every single song because they´re all boring and sound the same.
I think that's what is the most disgusting about all this. You call him your brother but you'd rather spend a few hours at a nearby golf course than go to his intervention and potentially save his life.
Idk much about slipknot, but my fav band was linkin park and it’s also not the same band without Chester, I was listening to slipknot sometimes back in the days, but I’d never thought I will be connected with another bands too, also there’s only one more band I’m interested about which is tool, I think it’s the last band I’m still listening to, but sometimes I back to some great tracks from slipknot and lp, I think it’s kinda nostalgic.
I have jammed to slipknot during some rough times. Their music got me through, its sad to see them end up as they have. But as the one song on their album Iowa said so well. "Everything Ends"...
The maggots took ten years of “He’s never going to bet Joey!” Now we will have “He’s never going to be Jay” I’m sad for them, but I’m seeing the Slipknot Business isn’t even about music as much as profit and ego. Bands should not contract band members. Think of Queen. - they split writing credits as “written by Queen” no matter who wrote the song because they would not be Queen without each of them.
The Doors did the same thing and Jim Morrison wrote the vast majority of their songs, save a few written by Robbie Krieger, the guitarist. But he insisted that everything be split evenly, and that is SO uncommon. Because, especially with the way the music business ran for decades before the internet, the real money was in publishing. The songwriter gets that glorious "mailbox money" usually quarterly, and it was a big stack. If you wrote the song, you got paid every time the song was broadcast, used in advertising, cover versions, etc. Most bands didn't catch on until say, every band member bought Porsches, yet one guy shows up with a Ferrari and that's when the lightbulbs lit up over the other guys heads ( see The Byrd's). And greed will kill a band quicker than drug addiction. It says something about a band member who writes the majority of the songs and yet insists on an equitable split. And it's as rare as hens teeth.
This made me tear up a bit when it showed Paul and then Joey and how Joey felt a loss without his brother... and now it feels like it's true about SlipKnoT...this is a band I loved listening to since I was 12 and it holds memories for me between me and my sister because she loved SlipKnoT too... and then Chris is gone and then Craig and now Jay...man,this is just ridiculous
@@noahh2338Jay was Fired but i do think it is the end for them. It should be anyway. Otherwise their music will continue to grow even weaker than they already have
how are people surprised by this? they aren't an underground band anymore. they make millions and millions of dollars easily, this band has been a worldwide sensation for almost 2 decades and it's very difficult to keep 15-20 people to stay consistent in a band
🤘 😁 🤘 Ya, jay getting let go was my final straw.. As a drummer and a huge slipknot fan, I'm getting sick of them firing everyone with a drumstick. Well aside from clown 🤔 they used to be a good brand. BAND* I think.
Yeah iam out too. It's a joke. I've actually been over them for awhile now tbh. Iam glad I seen them a couple of times years ago still with Paul,Joey and Chris Fehn....that was some good shit.
The idea of totally changing members would be ok if it also included those 2, corey and clown.. but it wont.. Im calling that when they "retire" they maintain holding, make all the money and possibly stop the band but continue the product somehow... they'll never relinquish those monetary rights tho, and everyone else gets screwed. Its more upsetting that it wasn't even coreys band, they used a bunch of lawyers and managers to essentially take control early on. Imo its kind of silly now anyway, the masks are trash. I still miss the OG masks and attitudes they all lost by becoming mostly old rich men while their friends die around them
@gaelramales3307 Not true. The whole band has said it many times that they all make decisions together and not one person is in charge. Mick's wife just responded to someone making a comment like yours. She said the original members(Corey, Sid, Jim, Mick, and Clown) make all the decisions together. There isn't one person in charge.
It's also pretty hard to accept about this harsh reality that is happening to them, but sometimes that's part of our life... To realise that nothing last forever.
oof 1999 must have been insane. I saw them in 2003 with their third album, was a great show. Good mix between OG songs and the newer more pop songs like duality. Looking back album 3 really was a turning point for them becoming less vicious and aggressive.
during my life there have only been 3 bands i wouldve loved to see live (other that would be cool ofc but not a direct draw) and those where og Slipknot, Mötorhead and In Flames. but sadly due to social phobia i have accepted that it would never happen and 2 of those are not possible anymore anyways. so i can say im a bit jelly of you ^^
Interesting, I never thought of Slipknot as the heavy metal version of Blue Man group. But after watching this, it kind of sounds like they are. At the same time I always wondered how hard it would probably be to be in a band with nine people.
Anddddd It continues. So glad I saw this band live way back in 2001, before Iowa had officially dropped (although they had a couple songs from it in their live set, something like Disasterpieces DVD setlist). That show was fucking mental, and you could tell they were still out there for the fans at that point (not the money, as they have been for a long time now) pushing everything to the extreme, including their bodies. Those who weren't around back then to witness a Slipknot show, I wish you could have, it was pure chaos everywhere. The thought of any of those guys ever being fired by fellow members would have been laughable then. It really did seem like it was a "family", but maybe that was all an act....
I think I saw them in 99. Ozzfest. They were breaking out on that crazy first album. They were the Buzz at that show with the younger fans. I liked em well enough, got a kick out of the " costumes" and the massive percussive ensemble, but I was never a big fan. I like classic metal like OZZY and PRIEST. Jordison was real special, a madman behind the drumkit. I wish he and SINSAENUM had been able to create and release more material...
I can't even tell you how fucking jealous I am. What would I give to see one of their early live performances. Being a non-american 90's kid can really suck sometimes.
Quite ironic, given that their latest album is named "The End, So Far", and they keep shooting themselves in the foot, so I guess this really is "The End So Far".
I had no idea all of this was going on behind the scenes… I always enjoyed Slipknot’s music.. the debut album will always be my top favorite. It’s just crazy to me how everything went down with the members and the fact that could be going the route of like the Blue Man Group is just wild to me… With every changing member the connection that was built between a member and fan is lost. Slipknot loses its core and soul of what made them become beloved by fans….it’s sad
Or perhaps look at it like this - With every changing member the possibility to form a NEW connection with NEW fans is greater. If slipknot made the same shit like iowa for 25 years they would literally be playing to 200 people in a bar by now. Evolving and staying fresh is an artform in itself, and personally i have absolutely zero problem with new members joining the band and eventually superseding the current members.
It seems like Slipknot have become the very thing that they despised in the very beginning. I know there is more to the story, but these stories that keep coming out, make it hard to ignore.
It was 2019 and I used to work at an international airport for security lets say. Since the beginning we’re forbidden to make any interaction with celebrities we like. If we do it we get fired on the spot. One day I was in Business Class and to my luck Corey comes through. I flipped immediately but stayed composed. Then I see Jay and on the other lane I see Jim. I tell my supervisor to get me out of the lane so I can at least appreciate my favorite childhood band coming through. To make the story short the machine that was on Corey’s broke down so Jay (with his friends) and Jim with a girl (probably his wife) had a moment were they had each other less than six apart and didn’t even acknowledge each other. It was like they’ve never met. Even my supervisor who’s not a fan asked me: do they get along? They went on their separate ways and not even a nod or fist bump. It was strange.
@@The2990killer The Business Class/Pre Check checkpoint is really small. Out of 19 lanes 3 are just for “exclusive people” that pay for the service. There’s only three lines and the airport was empty. They went through different lines when they could’ve easily gone through one. That’s what Foo Fighters did when they came through. I just recognized Dave Grohl because I don’t hear them that often and thought he was traveling with his family (daughter and wife) and his PR guy, lawyers etc… They were laughing and throwing jokes at each other. Later I found out through my coworker that it was the rest of the Foo Fighters that were with him but I didn’t know. Corey’s X Ray machine where he placed his bag broke down so his stuff needed to be reran one more time. Both Jay and Jim caught up to him in the other two lines. Jay was with his crew about 5/6 feet away and Corey decided to sit on a bench to wait for his bag. He could’ve easily just taken 4 steps and talk to Jay’s crew while waiting for the bag. At different moments they all looked to each other’s direction but it was like they were invisible to each other. They weren’t mad or happy it was like complete strangers.
That sounds very interesting, but not even too shocking considering they've never been at the studio together once while recording the album All Hope is Gone. Thanks for sharing!
About them being distant from each other at the airport... The thing people need to understand is that these guys are constantly around each other ,esp when touring. Imagine having to constantly hang with the same 8 other guys and their entourage,etc...for like 250+ days straight. I'm sure they also have their moments of comradely and get along well. I imagine at the beginning of the tour they all are excited, fresh, happy to be around each other and after several months touring different countries playing to millions of fans night after night they get on each other nerves and need their individual space As fans we tend to sometimes forget that these guys are only human.
It’s a shame to see the decline of the band. I’m happy I got to see them at least once though. Jay was a beast behind the kit, but I know he’s going to move onto something better. RIP Joey & Paul.
Slipknot is a professional superband, therefore i can understand they keep away from substance abuse etc. But seriously, working with someone for that long, having so much in common, it's horrible to imagine how little empathy some members received. RIP Joey, RIP Paul. They will forever be remembered for their intense fantastic fantastic music.
Other videos have said that Paul held this band together. Clearly they made that statement true. And if they knew Joey had a addiction why wait, be a friend and help him right away, make music like he wanted, maybe that would of kept him here a little longer or not get his condition that screwed him. When I found this band when I was about 7-9. (Almost 20 years, as im 26 now) Vol. 3 was the album but the self title holds a special place in my heart as spit it out was my first song I’ve ever listened by them. Slipknot lost its pride after Paul, lost its touch after Joey (jay kept it going and lit that fire again) lost its style after chris and lost all hope after Craig being the cherry on top.
We're entering the battle-pass and seasonal events era of music where you have to listen to your favourite bands at a specific time and place for your favourite lineup. xD I get the cool idea of, "It doesn't matter who is behind the mask." but if all members are replaced, then how different are you really from a cover band? Also can't you just skip touring at that point? I mean you could just have a separate lineup for every town and country waiting to play their set instead of driving people around if they don't matter. It's literally the philosophical question of, "If I replace all parts of my boat, is it still the original boat anymore?" but with a band, it's just sad.
Slipknot was finished when we lost joey and paul. They were the sound behind it all, after them it just became another band with a completely different sound.
I mean, this is life. Relationships fall apart over time. The kind of people they are behind closed doors is really none of our business. Music is music and nothing can take away the impact their music has had on millions of people.
It's kind of a shame because. i was a huge Slipknot fan when I was younger. And I'm glad that I got to see them. In concert four times. With all the original members.
There have been tons of bands that do this trash. Motley Crue, Ghost, Lynyrd Skynyrd, GnR, Van Halen(who like slipknot replaced a member with their son) all did it, they were never the same, and they tainted their legacy. I only saw them once, in 2001 at the Pledge of Allegiance tour with System of a Down, Rammstein, and American Head Charge. Got stubbed down from the nosebleeds to the floor. It was in Cleveland, during the peak of the Slipknot/mushroomhead controversy so it was wild in that venue. So grateful for that experience.
I saw them in West palm Beach FL, Amphitheater Ozzfest 1999 on the 2nd stage. They were just beautiful chaos man. The main stage was seated and very faraway while you were basicly on a steep grass hill. The 2nd stage would start the show with openers and it was on the pavement and you could walk up and be able to touch the band. It's South Florida in May and it is fucking hot like 90°F, but Florida has the Humidity outside equivalent to a 65° sauna. ( Imagine 4 people fully clothed in thick wool suits, 100% wet and sitting in a black hot car that has been in the sun all day, with a rubber full neck/face mask on ). These guys went on I feel like 11am-2pm time of day. I was smoking opium, pot, and just dropped some gel tabs (black) so this is something I will never forget man. You just knew their sound and act was very special. The fucking energy was almost visible and it was like everyone with in 40 feet of the stage just went off man. People either were making contact or scared for their lifes as they fled for the outskirts of chaos. ( Fun, mutual respectable moshing ) Some people did freak out like the little hippy dude I dropped of rip. --Sorry man if your reading this, you were headbanging and stared me down and I thought you were in. FYI:After bouncing him I immediately got down and helped him up and did the official put sorry head non/pat on his back as I ushered him to the safe zone. Well this was a real moment in time revival from my last teenage year. I think when we're young we often don't realize the moments in our lives where something truely amazing is happening right before our eyes. Seeing these guys live before they became what they are today was just a group of normal guys who got to make their dream of being professional rock stars a reality. It was all pure, real and honestly unique ✨️. Rest in peace all the fallen band members and I wish people would appreciate the music and understand that this band is of course a business. Get over the stupid gossip about the reason members are no longer with the band. I am sure everysingle band member who has passed on would be OK with the band continuing to play music and make money. I would assume that all the past members immediate family would be taken care of financially though. This is what matters people. Make sure the same pitfalls 99% of us struggle because of money is not what holds any passed members family kin back.
I cant imagine Slipknot surviving as a franchise. Fans get attached to the members as much as the music. Being a franchise just reeks of soulless corporate greed, the exact opposite of what Slipknot was thought of being.
They also preached constantly about being against money, the music industry and being popular, but then recently admitted that also was all a rouse and part of the plan from the beginning to gather a fanbase. Crooks who hold false promises and morals.
Nearly 20 years ago I was 17 and a LOT of my friends were into Slipknot. Their third album was just about to come out and all of my friends were hyped beyond belief at it. Following the slow online mask reveals on their website, and looking up any possible interview or clue about the newest album. They all thought it was going to be the heaviest shit the world has ever heard and to be honest given their first and second album, it was gearing up to be. Then The Subliminal Verses came out and man... nearly every single one of my friends gave up on them almost all at once. That third album was so commercial that it was getting radio play and was amazingly watered down with next to zero swearing and no emotion. I remember the biggest fan of my friends saying point blank IN 2004, "this band is gone dude, it's not coming back". Surprised they are still going, but yeah, it really really feels like it's just a Las Vegas metal version of The Blue Man Group now.
I really admired Joey Jordinson, but Jay is my favorite drummer and he's in my top 5 of favorite all time drummers. That man is a pure beast behind the kit. I'm beyond pissed they let him go.
For me, Gray's passing was tough but the firing of Joey shortly afterwords was the end of me being a fan. Corey and Shawn are just money hungry control freaks that lost their way a long time ago.
Facts. After Joey got fired I knew things were going downhill fast. I was excited when i learned Jay was joining the band. But learning Corey is pretentious, greedy and selfish made it all make way more sense and doomed them to fail eventually.
I learned about Jay's departure right now, from this video. As someone whos been there from day one, seeing them during ozzfest 99 this is the final nail in the coffin. I have been distancing myself since I just couldn't get into the last two albums, hence the unknowing of Jay's departure. Ill still try and enjoy the first few albums. Unfortunately I won't be buying a ticket the next time they come through Phoenix, the first intentionally missed show in 24 years, the end of an era.
Corey is the new Axl Rose. And that is not a compliment. He went from one of the best vocalists on the planet to Mr, "ill talk about anyone and everyone and have beef with the entire planet publically just to get my name in the news and look like a 'badass'" As soon as every second day id see a "Corey Taylor blasts....." I was over it. The guys an attention whore whos destroyed the best band on earth and I have no doubt he has a huge hand in Jay getting fired. And by what I hear Slipknots shows are now "The Corey Taylor show" with guests now. Glad I saw them when they were still Slipknot.
When money comes, passion is gone. It's ok to earn money from music, but when band members just are desperate to make money, the brotherhood will be gone forever.
Paul is turning over in his grave at how awful everything is. Joey. Well he got out in time. Sad for his passing. Chris well, What can be said. Craig was probably just sic of it. Enjoy the rest of your life Jay and thank you for your time. LETS JUST ALL SAY AT THIS POINT. REST IN PIECE SLIPKNOT. it hurts me as a fan to say that, but it’s coming..
There's a reason why their fourth album was called All Hope Is Gone. After Paul died, it's really went downhill and got worse once Joey got fired from the band and passed away. I believe their seventh album, The End, So Far was called that because in the earlier days, they were signed to a seven albums deal which led the reason to called the seventh album that. And I think after that contract deal was done, Corey and Shawn went a total different creative direction that pretty much broke the band.
I been a fan of slipknot pretty much all my life. Paul's passing really struck me, I was a lost teen who had just started playing the bass for him. Months later all the confusing and contradicting stories, watching my favorite band play with a musician who couldn't even go on stage, it was all crazy... Joey fired through email after showing he really wanted to play with them, then Chris being sent away for wanting fair pay. Drifted away for years listening to the new albums out of curiosity but honestly none touched me. Last year, I decided to watch a live concert of them on youtube randomly and V man performance along with Jay got me so excited for my favorite band ever to be coming back alive and feeling like itself again. Now, this month I see them once again fuck up this badly. This video is actually the first time I see the whole story behind these controversies... And it's worse than I thought. Yeah, sadly my favorite band in the world is gone. Slipknot is finished.
Been a fan since the self title album in 99. I listened and listened to different artists for a hard album that hit me with exactly what I needed out of a metal band. They brought exactly what I was looking for. I've never seen them live before and I am going to see them at sick new world festival in Vegas next April 2024. Since I purchased tickets to the tune of a thousand dollars Craig Jones has left and now Jay was fired. This band is on my bucket list in life to go see live... now I am going to see a band that is nothing like they once were and will most likely pull out of the festival altogether. I guess I should have made it point to see them a long time ago. Now it's not even the same band. Hopefully it will blow my mind like I am and have been hoping for for 24 years.
@@theunexpectedua jim is next I feel, I doubt he enjoys Slipknot after their 7th album. Just like jay he will part ways to something better. Then mick will call it quits. Either way I doubt either of them enjoy Slipknot
@@toastedtoaster3836 That's true, Jim even said in the last interview, which of course everyone knows already, but still, that they recorded the last album without any enthusiasm. As a Slipknot fan for the past twenty years, this is sad to hear :( They didn't even attempt to help Gray - then as a previous comment from @NegaArson mentions they sold him out and themselves.
This proposed business model won’t work, as the original magic that made their sound desirable in the first two albums self titled and Iowa has been gone for years. Their later albums are lifeless backwash, and I don’t see young, mindless teenyboppers latching onto that.
On one hand, one can argue 'business model' all day long with SlipKnot leaving the door open to morphing into a 'performance art company'....but that is still a slap in the face to all of the 'brotherhood' that made the band in the first place.
Honestly, the same happened to GWAR. They still put on a hell of a show, and some decent albums. It will never be a prime version of either band, but calling it a "performance art collective" as you did at the end of the video was a perfect description.
Its funny how it's all unfolded over the years. Corey used to give Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit shit for being phoneys and it being a business yet his band has turned exactly into that whereas Limp Bizkit has all its original members still.
When I was younger I was a slipknot fan because of their music obviously, but what made me a real fan was when a reporter asked ‘why is there 9 members, surely that divides the pay up?’ And Joey said bluntly ‘it’s not about the money’. That’s who they were, a band of brothers. That’s not who they are now. It’s sad they lost sight of that really.
The last few albums been just ok for me. That’s ok every band evolves. The first few albums are some of the greatest ever created and that will live forever
@@tjrichez4297its an alright album but there were moments that were watered down like My Pain, Spiders, Nero Forte, Critical Darling and the interludes. How can you name the album ‘We are Mot Your Kind’ and not have All Out Life on it? It is literally so stupid but one thing i will give “We are Not Your Kind” is it is hell of a lot better than “The End, So far” that album was an absolute shit show.
I was 17 when their first album came out, I couldn’t have been happier to hear such an intense sound. But when you have 9 people in a band, how long they’ve been able to keep it going is nothing short of an absolute mystery, but keeping 9 recluses together without mistakes happening is a fool’s errand. I actually don’t listen to any Slipknot passed the 4th album and even on the 4th I don’t have many songs I listen to either. They don’t sound ANYTHING like their first 2 albums did. I think we all secretly knew, but never thought about, what could possibly happen to them. Now this thing with Jay just tells me that Slipknot is on its last legs, there’s nothing else they can do and maybe they all want this to happen so they can just call it quits. 25 years of the most brutal metal, shows, & life takes a toll and they’re all 50+ years old so physically breaking down is an issue. Plus being that old and playing their specific type of music, I’m sure they’re all grown out of it already. They’re not in their 20’s and 30’s anymore. This isn’t The Rolling Stones where you can keep playing that type of music til you’re in your 80’s like they still are. Metal is something that just takes too much out of someone by a certain age and I get it. I’m 41 and I’m just baffled how they still perform.
I mean, there are plenty of metal bands that still perform well into their 60s and 70s. Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, etc, are all still around and kicking. Yes they went through various transformations and whatnot but they are proof metal can be done in a healthy way and sustained for a very long time. Some people like Dave Mustaine had to learn this lesson the hard way(in terms of his vocal cords I mean) but he did learn and is still around and kicking butt.
sounds like being a member of slipknot is just working at a job that you’re passionate about the work and think you matter, but then corporate management (corey and clown) are like yeah you can be easily replaced. not metal at all.
This is a real shame, especially for all you die hard fans..money, money, money. Its all what everyone thinks about, untill its too late. R.i.p. Joey and Paul.
I really don't know if i like slipknot now, I've literally worshiped them for 5 years when I moved onto rock music because its supposed to be a safe place where we feel accepted and being somewhere, where we feel like were we belong, but after hearing just about everything, I don't know if i can keep supporting them now
Judging from a quick look at the timeline, my *guess* is that being there before the breakthrough was early enough to set up the paperwork for turning it into more of a company. Apparently Chris Fehn joining shortly after they signed with Roadrunner was enough for him to be considered a hired gun.
Ghost does the same thing with hired musicians, but the difference is that they were always supposed to be like that, replaceable due to the ghoul costumes
No they werent, Tobias fucked over his bandmates. No one was supposed to be replacable. Tobias is a greedy drama queen as well. Notice how Ghost went from heavy and creative to pop? lol cringe
That's what happens to every big band. If you don't like it, listen to only underground stuff. Eventually, you should realize it's only about enjoying music. Corey & Clown ALONE OWN the band. Jay said he just got a phone call out of nowhere. i'm guessing they had him sign a contract and decided not to resign him.
As someone who has always hated Slipknot, hearing they were more of a business than musicians is not surprising, considering they've always put more emphasis on appearance than music. It's wild hearing band members fight each other about how they were affected by one of their own dying, after they made no effort to do anything about his issues.

Once Paul died, then Joey's departure the band hasn't quite been the same(altho I loved their music throughout)...a line-up change then was out of necessity. 2 albums with the re-formed line-up and now members seem to be dropping like flies. It sucks seeing all this unveil before our very eyes. It is what it is though. There is quite literally nothing that we as fans can do about it.

Glad I saw Slipknot in 1999 and 2009. Great shows and that OG energy! It’s over now 😕
I know I'm late to the party but I just want to say...
*"Nothing last forever bro, sometimes everything must come to an end"*
It's also pretty hard to accept about this harsh reality that is happening to them, but sometimes that's part of our life... To realise that nothing last forever.
oof 1999 must have been insane. I saw them in 2003 with their third album, was a great show. Good mix between OG songs and the newer more pop songs like duality. Looking back album 3 really was a turning point for them becoming less vicious and aggressive.
during my life there have only been 3 bands i wouldve loved to see live (other that would be cool ofc but not a direct draw) and those where og Slipknot, Mötorhead and In Flames. but sadly due to social phobia i have accepted that it would never happen and 2 of those are not possible anymore anyways. so i can say im a bit jelly of you ^^
Rest in peace Paul and Joey
Interesting, I never thought of Slipknot as the heavy metal version of Blue Man group. But after watching this, it kind of sounds like they are. At the same time I always wondered how hard it would probably be to be in a band with nine people.
This was a surprisingly awesome, thorough video, enjoyed watching it!
Thank you
Anddddd It continues.
Honestly, Iowa might have broken whatever bond they had, leaving it to slowly decay over the decades since.
I can't even tell you how fucking jealous I am. What would I give to see one of their early live performances. Being a non-american 90's kid can really suck sometimes.
This was the real Slipknot and lol look what they became

It’s just crazy to me how everything went down with the members and the fact that could be going the route of like the Blue Man Group is just wild to me…
With every changing member the connection that was built between a member and fan is lost.

It was like
they’ve never met. Even my supervisor who’s not a fan asked me: do they get along? They went on their separate ways and not even a nod or fist bump. It was strange.
what?could you explain more?
@@The2990killer
The Business Class/Pre Check checkpoint is really small.
@@The2990killer I’m not saying who’s to blame but I think that’s sadly the relationship they all have. More of a business than friendship.
I imagine at the beginning of the tour they all are excited, fresh, happy to be around each other and after several months touring different countries playing to millions of fans night after night they get on each other nerves and need their individual space
As fans we tend to sometimes forget that these guys are only human.
The lost of Joey Jordison is big loss to Metal community. Scar the Martyr, Vimic, and Slipknot are some of my favorite band.
The whole anonymous thing was only really held tightly by Craig Jones. I still know NOTHING about that man

Yes. They should just quit and sell all the costumes to nine other musicians who could start a Slipknot cover band

Ron White retired a few years ago.

Unfortunately I won't be buying a ticket the next time they come through Phoenix, the first intentionally missed show in 24 years, the end of an era.

Months later all the confusing and contradicting stories, watching my favorite band play with a musician who couldn't even go on stage, it was all crazy... Joey fired through email after showing he really wanted to play with them, then Chris being sent away for wanting fair pay.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm surprised they didn't mention GWAR in this video, actually.
Its funny how it's all unfolded over the years. Corey used to give Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit shit for being phoneys and it being a business yet his band has turned exactly into that whereas Limp Bizkit has all its original members still.

Drugs. Lots of drugs. And alcohol.
According to band members and literally everyone around them they all take large amounts of drugs and liquor before every show.

Then they showed that was a lie. This is not just what happens to other bands. They sold out, morally. They lied. This is a moral failure, not just business.
@@godwarrior3403 they didn’t sell an image they had different members since the beginning Jim didn’t even record on most of the self titled. If we go by your word the only thing they could’ve done was to end slipknot entirely when Paul died
Imagine being the most musically UN-important member, but having the power to kick everyone else in the band like he owns the damn company *sorry i meant "band" 🤡
They were my favorite band for a while! I liked .5 but nothing after that. I loved how every album had a different vibe. The last two just didn’t have that same atmospher
Same, everything after the Gray Chapter just felt kinda sterile to me
We Are Not Your Kind is very good, grows on you
@@goldenirieIt was their last album with Chris and it was half ok half not really for me but anything beats “The End, So Far” that album is complete radio friendly garbage
I'm not a slikpnot fan but i think this band is the first record and iowa that was their peak with the vol3 all problems started, soften their sound and change beyond repair.. i remember the first time hearing psychosocial instantly think this band is already dead.
Agreed. Iowa was probably one of the 3 most important albums of my youth
vol3 was great, psychosocial is on all hope is gone which is overproduced
@@kshaddoz4590just a little bit
@@kshaddoz4590 I totally respect that you like it but the general opinion is that vol3 is mediocre at best maybe you are a die hard fan that is the only explanation but man vol3 was REALLY BAD.
All those years later a cynic in me wants to say that Slipknot is yet again following the Mushroomhead path
