this man has been playing the same song for literaly decades but can still come up with new ways for it to sound different. unbelieveable
He’s said that by his later years, he’s played this song so many times that he started to get bored with it so he looked for more and more different ways to play it. This rendition is no doubt another product of his boredom ;)

If there is anyone who has helped innovate piano and jazz, it's Chick Corea. He also has written some great books about music making I intend to read. RIP Chick.
What books are those?
I’ve always loved chicks solo on this. He has so much control and isn’t just going crazy like some other cats would. Its just a beautifully melodic solo. He’s truly one of a kind.
So true, His virtuosic technique serves the melody and the dynamic of the tunes. It never bout showing off.
Certainly one of the most brilliant musicians of the past 100 years.

One of the greatest musicians
As a fellow bassist I like how when John does a solo the rest of the band does not just stop playing and leave the bassist out there on his own flopping around.
Chic and Dave play but they get out of the way and let the soloist work. I never had that kinda help.
As another fellow Bassist, I was always amazed at how the rest of the bands I was in didn't comp behind a Bass solo. Not so here though.
@@Joeh1154 Thanks for your response. Yeah, why when it comes to bass solos doe the band "Dry Up". I never understood it even when I said to the pianist(s), do you want me to stop playing when you solo. Well, eventually I gave it all away.
