Its a shame we are mortal. If one man deserved immortality, if only because of the seemingly bottomless well of his creativity, it was Chick. For me he stands right alongside the other giants on the musical mount rushmore. Miles, Monk, Bird, Mozart....Prince....whoever you have on yours, Chick is there as well. Its a shame no one lives forever, but Chick will have musical immortality. We will still be listening to this 1000 years from now. imo

Chick not only was a brilliant soloist, when it came time for the bassist to solo chick did not abandon him.
So many bassists [like myself] got abandoned when soloing [the pianist and drummer] would just stop. I had to clear up that little one by saying, I will stop playing when you solo and on more than one occasion had to do it to cure that habit.
Chick always keeps the thing flowing...
If only I could have been bassist in a band with Dave W. Great drummer... The guys I was always paired to made for poor metronomes.

An upright is definitely not supposed to sound like a fretless electric bass, but most upright bass pickups have that sound and the way you eq an amp can make it better or worse.
