  • We go through refreshing a two-year-old SHoei NXR helmet, from replacing the visor and PinLock, through to the internal foam cheek and centre pad, as well as adding a Lower Air Spoiler for better wind deflection and flow under the helmet.

Great video! I am looking into buying a NXR myself and was wondering if the x-spirit 3/x-fourteen lower air spoiler would fit the NXR,finally I'm sure.
Does it do the job better then the original NXR chin curtain ?

Hi mate let me check with Shoei and get back. I never wore the original NXR so can't compare the spoiler.

BikeReview.com.au Thanks! Also is it possible to use the chin curtain and the air spoiler simultaneously ? I guess so since I've seen pictures of this being done on the X-spirit 3.

Hi mate - from Shoei Australia Brand Manager, Damien. "Hi Jeff,
Yes absolutely, the X-Spirit III Lower spoiler works on the NXR and the GT-Air, and actually helps reduce wind noise by smoothing the air below the helmet, so for only $7.95 its a great addition!"

If you pull on the strings of the cheek pieces (E.Q.R.S) do you have to replace them for new because there brakes something or can xou put them back?

Good question, I've never done it, but have always assumed you'd need to replace them, as they are more of an emergency thing. I'll check with Shoei Australia. You can remove the cheek pads normally though quite easily.

Great but all this after 2 years allready? My arai lasted for 6 years, after 6 years you probably want to buy a new one.... maybe it's easier to buy a helmet cap (cheaper), so the internal stays fresh.

This helmet probably averaged two+ hours a day five days a week, plus another full day of riding of anywhere between 6-10 hours every week, which is way more than many helmets, so while there's nothing wrong with the shell, the visor and internals wear more than what many would experience (and get washed more often), and when you wear a helmet that much, keeping it comfortable and fresh is a real priority.
It's also significantly cheaper to get some new internals or replace a visor if you really like your helmet and the design, than buying an all new helmet. The parts could probably be cheaper, but helmet manufacturers wouldn't want to encourage people too much to just replace internals, when they could be getting a new helmet (especially since you should replace a helmet every five years).
I wouldn't personally use a helmet cap though, but that's just me!

If you wear a Balaclava , you dont need to clean the Helmet liner , you just wash the Balaclava.

Watching you slide and roll that matte finish across a hard surface made me cringe. That'll scratch up your helmet. Next time, please put down a towel or something when you're working on your expensive helmet...
