  • This is me once again showing you how to upgrade a floating guitar bridge, My egen8 originally has a edge 3 bridge, but I am upgrading it to a Edge pro made in japan.
the edge pro cost me £250 and I now know they are awesome and of a great quality, worth the money!!!

Very interesting. Something I wouldn't do to my Ibanez RBM10 Voyager and still wouldn't do (the are very hard to find) but you gave me a little more confidence to try with another guitar.

I winced SO hard when you put the new anchors against the old holes and said that you have to persuade, hammer, and push them in. The exact horror I imagined then ensued.
But hey, this is still a great video on how to do this upgrade, so thank you! Also commendable is your bravery to replace the anchors at all; I would be too afraid to do it. Haha

I was rather disappointed with my new edge pro replacement. The original gold one pitted away with very slight wear and sweat attacked the black string holding clamp blocks. I replaced it with a black chrome edge pro and the same thing happened. Must say at 250€ a go it is an expensive option. I think Ibanez need to address the problem of possible wear and sweat corrosion. The chrome/ plating is too thin. Will always need to replace the saddles too. New ones look good for a month then the corrosion takes place. I have tried pre- coating them with nail varnish but it looks terrible. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Ibanez gold plating is s##t. It's doesn't matter which Trem you buy. They're all far too easy to corrode/wear. You daren't even wipe them with a cloth. The plating is sooo thin, it's absolutely pathetic. Definitely not worth the price. Ditto Cosmo Black. Get the Chrome or Black variants for better longevity

Aww, you crack the stud hole.......should drill a tad bigger instead of force it thru. I guess we all learned from mistakes due to the laziness trying to be fast.

Where do you buy edge pros? I've got 3 xiphos with edge IIIs, and i hate them with a passion. But the only place i can find edge pros is ibanezrules and after shopping costs, it's over $400usd PER UNIT. Which is insane to me

Okay so you recommend drilling and making the anchor holes bigger so the wood doesn’t crack?

Deffo, but don't drill too much as they won't fit correctly

"It's quite difficult to mess up, if I'm honest" ....and then you totally did by cracking the guitar body. Lesson learned. Don't "Persuade it" in with a hammer. Drill the insert holes a little wider...
I fitted an Edge Lo Pro to my eGen8 and didn't need to redrill or replace the posts/inserts. The new posts fitted the existing inserts

I bought an Edge Pro for my STM2 and I just had a luthier install the new posts for me. It was like $100 total. Only issue is that the posts that come with the Edge Pro don't have the stud lock function. The tuning stability is quite awful when the bridge is floating, so I just blocked it from going back and now it plays like a dream. My only complaint about the Edge Pro is the saddles corrode way too fast. I've had to use steel wool on the saddle blocks becuase they get rusted from the sweat of my hand.

I can't believe I found this video. Ive been trying for a week to understand changing my bridge. I have no problem doing the work and financing everything, but I cannot figure out if my edge pro ii could be replaced by an original Edge or anything besides an original Floyd rose. I have the RG320FM Ibanez and I measured the edge ii and printed schematics of an original Floyd. The Floyd has one spot that is too big and won't fit. And Ibanez emailed me and said an original Edge won't fit. I measured my Schecter C1 and everything on that would fit but that's a FR 1000 and while I do like it, I really want a original Edge. Can you guess my question? You think the edge would fit? My cavity is rather large and I think my only problem would be the two studs up against the bridges knife edge. Understand my edge pro ii is 15 years old and it's Soo bad. I have to replace it. It's also sentimental so I'm never getting rid of it so I want to upgrade. Any ideas? Yes I've researched jemsite, Ibanez, you think it, I've checked. Nothing online about switching an edge pro ii.

Spot on man! You were right. Out of 1 in a billion it seems, I found one for sale in San Diego about an hour away from me. Tried it at his house and perfect fit to my studs. The screws that hold the strings in are too long so I might first try shorter screws or put a finger cavity like Steve Vai has. But it still fits!
