      I love it but it isn't for everyone. It isn't for people who like to be very creative unless you decide to add some of your own flair to the meal. I have added an extra side or another vegetable or used my own hot sauce or added a meat etc. Usually when I do this I can get an extra serving out of it if it adds a lot to the meal.
      It also isn't for people who despise cooking as you still have to cook.
      I think it is for people who haven't cooked much that want to learn or get ideas, for trying a lot of different style foods but don't want to get bogged down by all these extra ingredients that you will never use up, have trouble putting together their own meals, or don't like or don't have time to go to the grocery store and plan.
      I love to eat but cooking is more of a necessity than joy for me. I like looking at the menu and having the ingredients all in one place. I also spend less money on food than when I don't use the meal plan and have way less food waste. When I am on the plan I spend about $70 a week on food and when I am off it I spend about $120 to $150. This is because I get lazy and go out to eat and buying food at the grocery store has just gotten so expensive. My meal plan went up $4 a box since 2021 but inflation for food has gone up so much more in the same time period.
      This is why I love it personally.

      It was mid for me too. The food didn't taste bad and I actually got a great deal at the time. $21 for 6 meals and 2 free desserts. Most of it was a little too spicy for my tastes plus I wish they had better options to suit my tastes. I just got another pretty good offer but I'm going to pass.

      I think for some people, learning how to cook can seem daunting, as there are so many complexities that they can explore and it might seem overwhelming in the beginning. Meal kits can be a great way to start one's journey into cooking and teaching basics.

    • @rkang6531
      @rkang6531 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@jtcooksdinner I think everybody should learn how to cook regardless of anything. It's one of those things that truly make you independent and boost your self-dependence (which is more so important in today's world).
      It is also a great confidence booster and ensures that regardless of where you are, you can somewhat fend for yourself (without buying or getting cooked food from external sources, a thing that is more of a luxury, and more expensive in the majority of the world), especially in a Financial difficulty.
      Learning any new skill comes with its own set of challenges and complexities, that doesn't mean we stop learning now do we? Cooking is more on the easier side of things. I would heavily disagree that meal kits are a good starting point, since they create a dependency that is hard to get rid of, the portions they give often aren't enough food (esp for >2 ppl), and you are unable to learn how to shop and prepare portions by yourself. Also due to the immense garbage and plastic they produce, and how they treat their workers, that, and being more expensive, less ergonomical.
      Just scramble some eggs as a starting point, or make a salad, start easy and then go on from there, it's not rocket science. Learning anything is something that will eventually help you out in some aspect of your life. So people should keep cooking and keep learning 👍.
      [I apologise if the comment is too long, English isn't my first language and I am very passionate about food]

    • @jtcooksdinner
      @jtcooksdinner  8 месяцев назад +6

      haha I'm passionate about food too, so I get you. I also think that cooking is a great lifelong skill to have, and there are many things outside of the culinary world that you can get out of it.
      Then again, what if people don't want to get into cooking that seriously? That's their choice, and if meal kits offer a way for those people to get a small glimpse into that world and that's all they want, I think it's perfectly fine.
      Everyone's all different :)

    I agree with the rigidity but I just swapped out ingredients, saved ingredients from one dish to another, changed seasonings, etc. No need to follow the recipe exactly. I just think the simple ingredients are overpriced in the kits. So I use the recipes as inspo and shop for myself still.

    @petergriffiinbirdistheword 7 месяцев назад +4

    To be fair, this does not limit your creativity. You limited yourself. Nobody said you had to use everything or that you couldn't add your own twist. If that's why this isn't right for you then no meal service is good for you for the same reason. As for the packaging, that's understandable when it comes to a cooking service as you want all ingredients separated for personal preference, cross contamination and allergies. It's just one of those things that can't be helped with this type of thing. I guess reviewing meal delivery isn't for you based on your complaints has to do with the service over the food.

    • @jtcooksdinner
      @jtcooksdinner  7 месяцев назад

      All good points. I of course, have the option of using meal kits as a basis and adding whatever to “be creative.” However, for the meal kit users I know, they don’t go grocery shopping for other stuff in addition to what gets delivered, so I think that’s important to keep in mind. You’re right in that meal kits are not for me, not just HelloFresh.
      Plastic is inevitable in today’s world, I just wish it weren’t. Maybe an idea could be to have reusable ingredient containers that customers can send back to the distribution centers or packaging that’s more easily recyclable. It’s hard to say what the right answer is, but just my 2 cents😇

      Ik denk dat als je het kunt betalen, het handig kan zijn. Het bedrijf moet uiteraard winst maken. Ik denk dat het aan ons als consumenten is hoe we ons geld gebruiken. Zelfs als we voedsel in de supermarkt kopen, is het moeilijk om geen afval te genereren.
      Bedankt voor de reactie en sorry voor de slechte Nederlandse taal, ik gebruik Google Translate.

    Tip: I recycle recycle bowl items, and my trashcan never gets filled except for maybe once every two months. I’ve never throw food in the garbage and I have recycle every day. Most items are recyclable and I throw those out daily and the bag that I use is the bag that I get from the liquor store daily. Problem solved you’re welcome.

    For me, the quality control went down hill (mine came from their jersey warehouse). I’d received obviously rotten food that went bad well before it was even packaged and shipped.

    I tried it, I liked the idea of not having to go to the store and have such a array of options to choose from.
    I disliked the food process, I enjoy the trips to Walmart to grab the next big meal I make i feel like it makes it fun

    There isn’t much out there is suits everyone. The food ingredients they send are fresh, and packaging complies with environmental concerns. As far as your assessment of what Hello Fresh is or isn’t probably isn’t the take most people will have. It is good food when properly prepared, there is usually more than enough for two people and the price is fair. The recipes are easy to follow and there is room to add your own seasoning or add/delete ingredients as your taste demands. For me, everything I have ordered has been delicious, some more than others, the recipes are easy to follow and worth the time to do correctly. While I do not disagree with your “personal opinion” I believe you were expecting something different or better.

    My mom did hello fresh meals back then but it really wasn’t that good. First off all we were two adults and one child (me) so the portions did not exactly work out. My dad is 6'3 my mom and I are barely 5'2. I’m also quite picky and I didn’t like most recipes as they always had something I didn’t like in them. Sure, you can leave it out but then it’s going to waste anyway. The main reason we stopped was because it’s just too expensive compared to just getting our own groceries.
    We did save the recipes and there were a few things that I cooked again, but I adjusted them to my liking.
    I guess for people who’d like to try certain meals without buying a pantries worth of ingredients would enjoy it. Personally when I don’t know what to eat I just boil some pasta. I keep canned tomatoes, lentils, beans and chickpeas as well as dry pasta, rice and potatoes in my pantry. It’s cheap as hell and easy to combine stuff for a meal.

    Will be a bankrupt company in a couple years max. Their cost to acquire customers is too high. Most of their dishes are pretty simple and could be made for a lot less if you have a bit of time. The factor meals are good for busy people who can’t cook, but still they’re expensive and they ship it frozen. If they just put these in grocery store frozen sections for less money they’d save a lot and people might regularly buy them. Most people use the free trial or big coupon for first order and cancel. I’ve had a box, yeah it was decent, but would I spent $15 or so per meal? No way. I could cook for about the same, and make way more food

    We tried hello fresh. 5 different meals and… it was terrible. They give you sauce packets for flavor but NONE of the dishes had flavor (for reference….my husband loves bland food and he also said it had no flavor)
    I also got physically sick every HelloFresh meal….. we looked on the ingredients and I have no idea what my body was reacting to bc there were WAY TOO MANY ingredients in the sauce packets 💀. I have zero known allergies. We didn’t use sauce packets for the last 2 meals….and I seasoned them myself. I recommend yall just find a RUclips channel that you like :) they tend to use similar ingredients…so batch cooking is easier ❤️

    I may not care about the environment but I agree the packaging for everything is horrible and waste of time. Not to mention it's so bland and expensive....the only people that religiously use them are the lawyers I work with. Pinterest has so many different recipes, much cheaper to buy your own ingredients and you get to be creative.
    My friends who hate cooking or aren't creative also found it bland, still involved lots of prep and the portions were either too small or too big for single vs. Families. Ordering in or going to a restaurant for the same price is worth it than cooking something mediocre but I understand the no thinking part of it may be appealing

      My roommate had an extra one that he gave me, so I tried it out :)
      As I’m not a packaging engineer, I don’t have the exact solution for how to ship the individual components, but speaking from a consumer’s point of view, the amount of plastic doesn’t feel good. Maybe compostable or paper for the things that can be in that type of material could be a step in the right direction😇
